Sorry to be the wet blanket but Linemen don’t win it and haven’t since the second award in 1993 to Bo Barzilauskas. Although they often should. Actually PROBABLY should most years. Look, everybody paying attention knew Zack Martin of Chatard (2008 season) was going to start somewhere on Sundays. EVERYBODY. He’s a pretty certain NFL Hall of Fame player at this point and likely the best Indiana football player in the NFL since Rod Woodson. He wasn’t even considered. DIDN’T GET A SNIFF. I think there is a Marion County or Indianapolis Lineman of the Year award given out - he didn’t win that either. I admit schools promote this stuff like the Oscars these days…which bothers me more than a little. I have no horse in this race. I’d love to see a lineman win - but they don’t. Regardless how great they are. Maybe things will change this year, but to be clear, there have been much worse “travesties” as regards recognition of lineman in years past if one fails to win this year.

Agreed but by kicking out CG and Carmel (despite the fact they were headed out the door - apparently regardless whether they had a firm HCC deal) the MIC gets all the bad PR in this. I am still amazed that anyone with even a tinge of PR savvy allowed such a letter to be drafted, let alone released. It’s as if petty children were running these remaining MIC schools. To me the real question is who really wants to join the MIC at this point….and why? What do they have to offer? It must be pretty bad if CG and Carmel were leaving regardless and didn’t even have a firm deal.

The best all around football player I saw this season was Javon Tracy from Decatur Central. He played wide receiver, then when DC's QB was injured he played QB, he played every down on defense, was the kicker and the kick returner. He did not sell tickets or popcorn, as far as I know.

It was catty and childish. At the end of the day CG and Carmel are out of the MIC. The MIC vote and especially the press release were on par with middle school mentality. I wonder if DT / HHF wrote it for them. 🤣 Now if Merrillville and Penn are serious about getting better they need to be amending their schedules to fill in the voids.

From 2008 to 2019 Tri High school had 1 winning season including 4 (0-10) seasons. If they would have just given up and cut the program they never would have made the semi-state run they just made. And I can tell you that those kids during that decade would say that football enriched their high school experiences regardless of the record. But since Tri isn't in Indianapolis or the region they don't exist in (the artist formerly known as) DT's mind so they must contract. This whole contraction crap gets old. If the money spent on football was really hurting these systems, they would cut them.

Good question and I think different people may have different answers. If it’s about self-improvement and the prospect of playing at the next level, I think you choose the HCC. If it’s just about trophies and you are going to IU to party in college, then chose the MIC.

You are really reaching....schools leave conferences all the time. All the time. CG's decision to move has zero impact on their past and present accomplishments. The decision to leave was based on factors that go well beyond football. Was in a black mark on the MIC when they pushed out the Terre Haute schools to make room for local Indy schools?? At that time, the MIC did what was best for them, and now 2 schools are doing the same. Nothing more or less.

Potentially. I’m privy to some info I can’t share. I can say a good friend of mine who’s an Indy area AD says there’s all kinds of proposals flying around. I think taking the haves out of the HCC and the MIC and going their way, the have nots do the same thing and go their separate way makes a lot of sense. There has been bit of a power shift going on, it’s moving from the townships to the suburbs.

As a parent of a now Carmel grad, I have thoughts on this that I’ll gather and comment in the near future. For now, I’ll simply say I’m happy that my son was able to learn some great life lessons about people that aren’t like him from the MIC.

Also for the record Brady was a 4 year starter. Only year he wasn’t the stand alone all conference QB was his freshman year where he was honorable mention to Sigler who led Heritage Hills to LOS 3 time All state QB for 3A 2 time Top 50 all state no it wasn’t the MIC but Brady has been elite all 4 years. Freshman year: 14th in passing yards, 11th in passing TDs Sophomore year: 8th in passing yards, 11th in passing TDs Junior year: 10th in passing yards, 11th in passing TDs Senior year: 1st in passing yards (By over 800 yards) 1st in passing TDs ( 14 more than 2nd)

Yeah. If unresolved at that time, then things are going to get REALLY interesting around here. Honestly, I admit that speculating what happens if the HCC declines one or both, not that I’d wish it on CG (I’m a long time CG fan from afar) or Carmel, is damned intriguing.

Probably so, surprisingly. Minimally, I have to think that Franklin Central, Noblesville and Zionsville are quite unexcited about the prospect. And by all appearances, rapidly growing Westfield may have been setting itself up to become dominant in the current conference, yet now they have to take a back seat, again. Can’t imagine that makes them thrilled. Some interesting GID fodder for a while…but just how long?

In part, that's probably because most would have seen Carmel and CG calling the shots while they were still part of the MIC. Floating out there without the foundation of a conference provides less leverage. While the MIC statement might have seemed mean-spirited in the way it was delivered, it gave them the advantage in controlling the narrative and, potentially, inflicting a little damage on the way out the door. It's starting to definitely look like there was more than just plain old logic involved from the MIC side.

Losing St Brown and Taylor didn't help anything Special Teams wise that is for sure.

Although close in regular season doesn't count (ask Peyton Manning) but he was two plays from getting out of sectional two additional times. It wasn't like the he or the team wasn't a state caliber team particularly in '19. If only all our arguments mattered.

In this case I'm not sure what the reasoning is for not allowing a kicking team member to advance a kick. The only exception is a scrimmage kick recovered by the kicking team behind the neutral zone. I've never heard the logic of there being no defense to stop them on a punt (scrimmage kick). I don't see that logic because there's no defense to stop them on a sack/fumble either. My assumption is it's related to intentionally giving up team possession by way of a scrimmage kick or free kick. It could also be to simplify the rules to not allow advancement if A, B or C exist but allow it if D, E or F exist. What would be your cut off for advance a free kick you define as an onside kick? 10-20 yards beyond the free kick line? What if it's a pooch kick they recover at the 20? Should the kicking team be able to advance that kick? Would you argue that a kicking team should be able to advance any free kick they recover? Why not scrimmage kicks? Ultimately the best answer is because it's always been the rule. But that's not the answer you want.

My sources say there may be some HCC fallout from adding Carmel and Center Grove. Another individual I know speculates that Carmel may have an easier time getting added (natural rivalries) than CG. Should be interesting to see how this shakes out. Carmel and CG opened the door and dared the MIC to make a move, and the MIC gave them the push they desired. In the end, this will shake out. It's been a fun run with this group of schools in the MIC. If this would have happened four or five years ago, I would have been shocked, but I came to see the "writing on the wall" over the last couple of years. The rumors became reality. I wish the folks at Carmel and Center Grove the best. I will especially miss working with Carmel. Jim Inskeep is a first-rate person and class act. Center Grove has always treated me well, too.

Was explaining this just last night in talking with my son who plays at Harrison. He was talking about how Harrison's doing well in the NCC, but I told him that only really helps out in a state like Texas where only the top four teams in a conference or district make post-season. In a state like Indiana, it's not about making it to the post-season, but moving forward in post season. We were talking about the MIC move and a potential ripple effect that might even see some realignments in other conferences. As Harrison moves to 6A, likely next classification, they are going to need to face more than just Westfield, Jeff, and occasionally Kokomo to get to that next level.

This move makes total sense for Carmel and CG! Period. Has nothing to do with "culture" aka... race. It's obvious to see what some of the haters are trying to say here. Simply not true. Facts are facts. Carmel and CG have had numerous events canceled with MIC JV and Frosh teams in various sports. Whomever threw out those "culturally align" words are afraid of reality... which is their own Athletic departments are simply not as diverse as Carmel and CG's. Those two needed to branch out for their students. Period!

In the press release the remaining 6 claim Carmel and CG are "culturally re-aligning" but isn't that exactly what they did with this move? Not saying the move was wrong or anything, just find it ironic that they did exactly what they accused the other 2 of doing. We live in strange times.

UIndy is in a great position, IMO. Now that St Joseph is gone, they are the only D2 school in the state. Unlike the FBS and FCS schools, they can give partial scholarships. Big advantage IMO.

The article was misleading. The only reasons for leaving are because of money and competition. The 6 remaining MIC schools bring no crowds and their sports besides football and basketball are not competitive whatsoever. This has been in the works for 3 years or so. Its a money and competition thing and nothing else. The MIC will probably try and make them look bad for leaving and that is why the article said what it said. The HCC will need to have 5 of 8 vote yes to allow Carmel and CG in. If this does not happen, CG and Carmel will be in some serious trouble for football scheduling. However, I am not sure why the HCC would turn this down. The money and competition is too good.

I'm not sure which statement from that release was more amusing, the one regarding "athletics not driving decisions" or the "culture alignment" one. Athletics HAVE driven decisions at these schools for over two decades and its a true arms race. Does the MIC network broadcast marching band, choir and chess club contests? Come on. The remaining 6 MIC schools did not want to get stuck with egg on their face so they broke up with Carmel and CG prior to allowing CG and Carmel to do the same to them, controlling the narrative and painting CG and Carmel as the "bad guys" in the process.

No he doesn't. Having been around the GID for years (even before you became a member) he has always done this (Driven T, DT, HHF) doesn't matter what screen name. Plenty more to the history but not worth going over. How in the world does this "tarnish" Center Grove's back to back State Championship run? They wiped the floor with the MIC the last 2 years, their closest games have come from Westfield, Cathedral, and Lawrence North (only 1 of those was a MIC school and just so happens the HC of that schools was a former assistant to CG's HC). That has to be the most ignorant comment I have seen you type (and there have been plenty over the years).

I could see that theory but it’s really about money, opportunities for their student athletes and competitiveness. Carmel and Center Grove simply clean up in every sport. Add in the fact that some MIC schools are struggling to field junior varsity and freshman teams in the country club sports and it’s a no-brainer.

There were some misses...there usually always is. But YG and his crew did a heck of a job. I can only see a couple of misses when having the benefit of watching the replay, sometimes several times. Crews are making those calls in real time and doing a great job. I also loved the way YG had control of the game...authoritative as he should be, but very positive...positive with the players and coaches. Easy to tell he is a former player that has a passion for this game. The players and the fans are very fortunate to have crews like YG's calling games...and especially the big ones!! Very proud of my fellow Lutheran!!! Salute to you YG!!
