To my knowledge, I know of zero state law that mandates Wet Bulb measurements for heat index, I do know that most smaller schools who are VERY FORTUNATE to have an ATC available to them, they most likely are utilizing a local hospital and their ATC employees. Some school Corps/Districts I am sure have funds to hire their own, Rensselaer is not one of those districts, however, we have a great relationship with Franciscan out of Lafayette and have always had an ATC in my 22 years on the sidelines, however,, I know this is not a reality for all programs/ teams. I remember being at the IFCA board meeting YEARS ago where IFCA worked with IHSAA on these recommendation/guidelines with the color chart that we see today, at the time, all 50 states was ranked by the Kory Stringer institute, which began after his unfortunate death of Heat while with Vikings. This Institute is out with University of Connecticut and Indiana did not grade out well. I believe there was conversations with IHSAA and General Assembly at the time, making sure this report was being taken serious and implemented in our outdoor sports, if those conversation ended up as a Law on book over the years then I am not aware, could be, just don't know, I do know since that meeting, the general procedures we've seen this past week have been in place for a long time. I like to believe the coaches in Indiana understand their responsibility and how to keep their players safe. Just at our practice tonight: I saw our ATC wet bulb out full time taking up to the sec readings and she had pre made a pool of cold water,

Even if that is a typo, a team gets 2 votes for beating a top 5 team in 5A, and that team is still ranked in top 5. Still a head scratcher.

Monday, JV game was moved back to start at 7pm, Sun was down and breeze picked up, it was a real pleasant night. 90 mins prior, not so much as many mentioned before, many of our programs have had the Wet Bulb measurements for YEARS, and the codes, this is not new for anyone in Indiana

Listened to the last few minutes of the Seymour and Jeff game as I was driving home. Wow. Seymour gave it away.

Maybe with the schools and their fans having to travel the lightning doesn't appear as close? $$

Martinsville 20 Bloomington South 14 (3:20, 2nd) Martinsville scored on a 65-yard drive to take the lead. While turnovers have hurt the Arties, major penalties have been a big problem for South along with poor punt protection. The Arties have played a much cleaner game when it comes to penalties.

These things are much much more easily obtainable with a student body made up entirely of those who have paid/sacrificed hard-earned dollars for an exclusive experience.

The talent pool in Columbus overall isn’t what it used to be. However, the majority of talent that is there goes to Columbus North. It’s the more prestigious school due to its history and its superior athletics and academics. It also helps that it has a richer student population and that’s what probably drives its success more than anything. Columbus East football used to attract much more of the talent pool back when Bob Gaddis was the head coach. With him gone, kids would rather play in a tougher conference and in the highest classification, especially given Eddie Vogel hasn’t had a winning season. You’re not going to go far in the postseason at either school so would you rather play big name schools like Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Center Grove, etc. or would you rather play Jennings County, Seymour, and Jeffersonville?

From what I’ve seen East has been a mediocre to bad 5A team and North is a mediocre 6A team. The landscape is always evolving.

A little detective work shows ACP's HC is former Portage HS player Steve Vaught formerly coached by none other than Crown Point's Craig Buzea.

Linton playing Marion Local last weekend has confirmed to me the leanings I've developed on P/P schools over the past decade or so. Having seen Linton face a great LCC squad in 2015 & having our season ended by Evansville Mater Dei yearly from 2018-2022 (aslo multiple games vs both Scecina & Lutheran since 2011). I've concluded the advantages those P/P schools have are driven by culture, demographics and discipline. It's my opinion that recruiting/transfers is a very small part of their success (at least the schools I mentioned - can't speak on others) and likely no more of a factor than many of the better public schools enjoy. There's always examples to the contrary - Bowman Academy's 2013 basketball team being one! Back to Marion Local. They looked very much like 2015 LCC and the better Mater Dei teams we faced. Very disciplined. Clearly some standout players, but what stood out most was everyone was solid. Consistent. Precise. After speaking to some of their fans and others familiar with their program, the demographic similarities (aside from being rural vs urban) are striking to LCC & Mater Dei. ML's school district is over 80% catholic & has an extremely low poverty rate. Nearly 50% of boys enrolled participate in football.

I HAVE been in the Jeffersonville gym, so I saw the football field. Also was in FC gym, my daughter's 7th grade AAU team beat the #1 team from Tennessee in the auxiliary gym there. I don't remember seeing the football field. I do remember our hotel was right beside the Waffle House. I also used to drive by Columbus East' field to get to Stone Container on State St. to fix their machines.

Was jus attempting to address ur thoughts on how the PP faithful think when rating themselves/entire classes ect... really has nothing to do with how many PPs are still playing...

Agree. Also add in the courses coaches are required to take via NFHS... Sudden Cardiac, Concussion, and Heat related illness are all mandatory.

With all the other nasty crap surrounding college football, I find it comical that the NCAA makes Notre Dame vacate wins because their players we're caught cheating on an exam(s). Damn, at least it's proof that their kids go to class.

Went 5-3 with the picks last week, some nice wins by Concord and Plymouth that I did not expect, and disappointing losses by Northridge, Goshen and Wawasee. This week looks to be a fairly tough slate for the NLC. Side note - Plymouth has 6 home games this year. Will they only have 3 home games next year?! Here we go looking into Week 2. Columbia City (1-0) at Plymouth (1-0): Impressive win by the Pilgrims last week with their most points scored in a game since the 2019 season. Perhaps they will push for a middle-of-the-pack finish in the NLC this season. However, unless the Columbia City bus gets lost in Blueberry Festival traffic, this week will be a step up in competition. Is Plymouth a contender or pretender? I'm going with the Eagles. COLUMBIA CITY BY 28 Concord (1-0) at Jimtown (0-1): Again, another team with an impressive win last week in a dogfight. Can the Minutemen challenge for an NLC title this year? That will be answered in September. I do not forsee any issues here against their backyard rival. The Jimmies have lost 5 straight in this series. CONCORD BY 10 New Prairie (1-0) at Goshen (0-1): The Redhawks have lost to Fairfield by a combined two-year score of 84-23... yikes! This week will be big in seeing what kind of moral and grit Goshen has. Can they put up any sort of fight against the Cougars? If not, it will be yet another long season in the Maple City. NEW PRAIRIE BY 35 Northridge (0-1) at Elkhart (0-1): The Raiders could not hang with a dynamic FW North Side team last week in a bit of surprise, at least to this NLC fan. I am expecting this one to potentially be a low scoring affair. This series is split 1-1 over the last two years, with the home team winning each game. I'll stick with the Lions. ELKHART BY 7 Penn (1-0) at Mishawaka (1-0): The Cavemen open up the turf field at Steele Stadium against thier longtime, backyard rival. The Kingsmen had arguably one of the most impressive victories in the state in week 1 over Valparaiso. Both teams scored a lot of points last week. Who's defense shows up? My heart wants the NLC team, but my head says otherwise. PENN BY 10 Portage (1-0) at NorthWood (1-0): Another team breaking in new field turf, the Panthers welcome in a 6A foe to Nappanee. Portage has been down in recent years, but they've got a heck of a Head Coach looking to get things turned around. I think this game could potentially be a challenge for NorthWood, but they will still pull out the victory. NORTHWOOD BY 14 Warsaw (1-0) at Warren Central (1-0): I truly can't believe this game actually is on the schedule. I never thought in a million years I would see the Tigers face off against one of the big dogs from the Indianapolis area. "Bart Ball" can keep any team in a game, but the Warriors are tough this year and shut out FW Snider last week. They also held the Panthers to like 1 yard per carry or something. They are STOUT. I have no doubt Coach Curtis will have the boys ready, but there is only so much talent that can be overcome. Great challenge for Warsaw. WARREN CENTRAL BY 21 West Noble (1-0) at Wawasee (0-1): Not much went right last week for the Warriors, and this week they take on a Chargers team that has defeated them in three straight seasons. Hopefully Wawasee can find the endzone a few times this week, but I am not sure they have enough to get the victory. WEST NOBLE BY 28

Friday, Aug. 30 Forest Park at Perry Central, 6:30 pm Heritage Hills at Christian Academy (Ky.), 6:30 pm Mount Carmel (Ill.) at Gibson Southern, 7 pm Pike Central at Tecumseh ©, 6:30 pm Princeton at North Posey, 7 pm South Spencer at Mount Vernon, 7 pm Southridge at Boonville, 6:30 pm Tell City at Eastern, 6 pm Washington at Edgewood, 6 pm Give me Forest Park in the first game. Perry Central didn't really show much in their week on game against Tell City. Give me Heritage Hills in this game. I don't know much about Christian Academy, but I have a feeling Heritage Hills will show them Kentucky boys how we do it in Indiana. Give me Gibson Southern in this one. I had a chance to watch Gibson Southern's game last week against Danville and Danville looked good early, but they were able to settle down and take care of business. I think this one will be a blow out. Give me Pike winning two weeks in a row. I know Tecumseh got thrashed last week by a good South Spence team, but I think its close and Pike gets in done late. North Posey in this one. I think that they will run the ball and do what they want against Princeton. Hopefully Princeton can keep it close. Give me Mt Vernon in this game. I think the showed somethings last week and that they might have an outside shot at doing some damage in the PAC this year. Southridge in this game. I was impressed that a young Boonville team was able to keep it close with Paoli. I think Southridge will have to much fire power and their offense will hit to fast for the young Boonville team to keep up with. Terry boys..... Enough said. I do also like Tell City's big center. Washington gets it done again this week. They could be someone you have to watch out for in the big school side. They have a lot of fire power and their QB is a stud.

After one week, everyone is pretty much guessing anyway. Polls won't really be credible under halfway through the season.
