  1. Please, by all means, jump ahead a week. We all know how the bracket's going to look leading up to next Friday. Let's GO! Besides, though I adamantly disagree, I'd much rather read about how you think Heritage Hills is going to be just another Castle game for the Tigers, than look at one more Sagarin analysis predicting the outcome of Memorial vs Memorial at Fantasy Land Field. Let's talk about a game that's really going to happen instead. The boys need to keep their minds focused on this week's opponent, but as for me I can't wait until next Friday night!

  3. Cathedral football is the poster-child for implementation of the Success Factor system. Even with 4A enrollment, they are currently playing in the right class (6A) based upon the strength of Cathedral football year in & year out. Prior to SF implementation, Cathedral won the 4A championship 5 of 7 years (06,08,10,11,12) then moved up & immediately won 5A titles in 13,14. Up in 6A for 2 seasons, they won Sectionals in 15,16 before moving down for 5 years. Initially, they got eliminated by all-time great teams in Col East (17 champion), Dec Cent (18 runner-up), New Pal (19 champion) before cruising to 5A titles in 20 (avg winning margin in tourney--34pts) & 21 (avg winning margin in tourney--30pts). Once again being up in 6A, they won a Regional in 22 & Sectional in 23 before losing to the eventual champs CG & BD. Fun fact: In those 9 state championship seasons in 4A & 5A noted above, 50 of those 53 victories were by double digits. with the average margin of victory by 31.75 points.

  6. Personally, since I generally don’t have any particular love for either the Preppies or Danville (whatever their mascot might be….I, frankly, forget…”Six Gun Shooters”?) I’d personally be down with the IHSAA just cutting out that particular portion of the bracket and letting Roncalli take a week’s rest. I’d consider it a perfect solution. But then, that’s just me.

  7. Brownsburg @ Avon: Episodes of deja vu for the Bulldogs who have struggled in the tournament recently? They draw Avon in round 1. Maybe the rivalry game keeps the Bulldogs focused as they are clearly the better team and have big goals over the next few weeks. Brownsburg wins 38-14. Carmel @ Zionsville: We may be witnessing the end of an era at Carmel as the Hounds have looked discombobulated for much of the season. Zionsville gets em at home and I am not sure these two have ever played on the gridiron. Bigger game for Zionsville. They pull one off here. 23-21 Eagles. Fishers @ Noblesville: Another rematch and this one was a classic at Fishers during the regular season. The Millers get a chance to host this time and are looking to snap a 7 game losing streak. The Fishers contest (an overtime one) was the streak starter. I think this one is closer than it should be but Fishers makes a couple of plays late. Tigers win 27-17. Franklin Central @ Columbus North: An underrated matchup on the schedule that is not getting much attention. Winner gets CG in round 2 in a "prove yourself" game. Flashes looked good before getting roughed up by Westfield in week 9. Bulldogs have been solid all year and are at home. CN wins this one 24-17. Hamilton Southeastern @ Homestead: Which Royals team shows up? The one that lost to FC or the one that beat Brownsburg? Time will tell. Homestead in for a long night here. HSE wins 38-10. Harrison (West Lafayette) @ Westfield: Shamrocks start the tournament at home and have looked the part of a state title contender over the last month. Harrison is good, but not good enough to play with the top of the HCC brass. Westfield wins 41-17. What say you?:

  9. Snider has excellent speed at receiver and all over the defense so while you may say that running back speed isn’t great, team speed is certainly in Snider’s favor against Elkhart. We shall see

  10. I think Cig and staff know QB is the most important position on the field by far and will do whatever is necessary to make sure there isn't a drop off my this year to next. Whether that be Tayven, a portal QB, or potentially the incoming 5* freshman remains to be seen, but I trust the staff to make that decision. FWIW, Cig and staff have dipped into the portal the last 3 seasons(2 at JMU/IU this year) for a QB and have turned the latter two into all-conference player with Rourke likely to receive serious consideration depending on his availability the rest of the year.

  11. Not really, people want to jump in and protect QB Jackson for what? His bad play? Look, I want IU to win as much anyone and have waited 50+ years for it, but Jackson ain’t that guy. Anyone that watches football knows it. If IU was their usual bottom dweller self, nobody would care if Jackson was bad, but these are new days for IU. Rourke is legit, can read a defense, and makes good decisions with the football. IU better hope that Rourke stays healthy or else that train is stuck

  15. I see you ignored my statement in regards to your support of Center Grove and your bias thereof. Use Cig’s famous quote of google me and watch his multiple interviews following the Washington game including his on field interview with the Big 10 network and his press conference and then tell me what he said. As far as the 5th start baloney, who cares? My original statement has nothing to do with that. Like many others, the trepidation of Jackson having to play for a top 10, Hell, top 5 team in the country is a worst case scenario for the Hoosiers.

  16. Given the numbers situation, it would take something really egregious — and I don’t mean “that’s the worst call I’ve ever seen” egregious — to take someone off the field. The far better response for an error in officiating judgment and/or rules application is education and training.

  18. At some point, Coaches who believe that they know how to coach the position of QB can stop dipping into portal dudes and develop their own. Shocking to hear, but that is long term success and you know what you are getting. If I am IU, I am NOT hitting QB PORTAL, develop Jackson, flip HS 5 * all good vs sending the message to your squad at the most important position QB that the guys we have here are not good enough so getting someone to take your job/reps. Vicious cycle to play imo.

  21. lol...blood thirst is correct! Do you listen to Carmen & Jurko at all? Jurko is a Region guy from Cal City and he had a lengthy NFL career at DT. He usually has good insight. He agreed with you that there's no way Flus was going to go public with reprimanding Stevenson. IDK, it just really pisses me off that he stood by the stance the D was set and they didn't need a TO. Just admit you didn't see what Stevenson was doing. Everything I've heard from Chicago media is that Poles loves Flus and he's not on the hot seat. At the very least I hope they don't bring Waldron back if the offense remains shakey the rest of the season.

  22. Thanks Bobref! On a related but broader topic, what are the ramifications and accountabilities for high school officials as individuals and/or crews that have bad games/seasons? Is it only the lack of advancement in the tournament? Suspensions? Removal?

  28. Elkhart struggled moving the ball against a bad Penn team. Snider would have to be on par with Penn to get beat by Elkhart. Snider has played better competition in conference. With exception of Concord, Elkhart has not played up to the competition that Snider has seen all year. Will the game be close, probably. If it weren't for a muffed punt, Elkhart gets beat by Penn 3-0.

  30. It could also be a situation where they just didn't think about the starting point and just went 15 without realizing they should have been half the distance. Not acceptable, but maybe just a lack of concentration rather than lack of rules knowledge. That is correct for NCAA enforcement unless the flag was within 15 yards of the LOS.

  31. Of course Flus double and triple downed today in his idiotic comments. I heard him in 2 different interviews say the play that the Bears didn’t defend the sideline on that allowed Daniel’s to even get into Hail Mary range didn’t matter. He then said they didn’t need to call a TO to regroup on the final play because they had the defense in the spot they wanted them in. Yes, he stuck to that statement even though he was quickly reminded by multiple reporters that Stevenson was on his own yapping with the fans. I get why this guy is a players coach. For starters, he clearly won’t hold anyone accountable through the media. Regardless of how stupid it makes him look.

  32. The rule provides that contact against the kicker is a foul, but there are 4 instances in which contact is excused, one of which is “The defense touches the kick near the kicker and contact is unavoidable.” In this play, the contact would be excused.

  33. Thank you for your very thoughtful explanation. There are a number of significant points you make, but I’ll only address one, or we’ll be here all day. Just my opinion: Except for a handful of really elite crews, the ratings calculated to determine playoff advancement have only a very loose correlation with officiating proficiency. Go ahead, change my mind.

  38. By rule, if a player goes out of bounds on his accord sideways or backwards, the clock is wound as if he was downed in bounds. Brebuef did this a couple times to avoid the hit and keep the clock moving. One would assume the kid was trying to stop the clock, but the covering official clearly saw him go sideways. That was tough one when I started.

  39. Does anyone else seem to wonder why Russia would need to recruit order troops from another Dictator's military into their existing war? https://nypost.com/2024/10/24/opinion/north-koreas-troops-in-ukraine-reveal-putins-weakness/ The war for Ukraine is widening. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed Wednesday that North Korea is dispatching thousands of troops to Russia, marking a significant escalation in its conflict with Kyiv. Vladimir Putin is pulling Kim Jong Un deeper into the war — yet he is also revealing a weakness: The Kremlin is running low on recruitable troops at home. North Korea’s infusion of fresh soldiers will remain practically risk-free for Pyongyang, unless the United States returns to its aggressive sanctions posture against the Kim regime.
