  1. Northeast Indiana v Southwest Indiana thread…..Egon warned us, “Don’t cross the streams. It would be bad.”

  2. Substitute the word “protonic” for “prostate” and it would likely be the subject matter of half the conversations I have these days.

  3. Kyle is a first-class individual. He is deeply immersed in the local high school sports community, and he understands how to report on it. If he has an opinion, it's usually based on facts and knowledge. Plus, he's just an excellent writer. One of the best they have at the Star on any beat.

  4. Generally by the time the pancake happens and the blocker would be able to get up, the runner is long gone. The exception might be a T who blocks a DE and they are still on the ground with the passer in the pocket. But for the most part this situation would not result in a holding foul. But it could definitely turn into a personal foul if the blocker doesn't get up efficiently or the defender gets rough trying to get him off. When I see this I get to them ASAP and tell the blocker to get off. If they know we are there, neither play is likely to do anything. You can usually prevent this from turning into a foul, but sometimes the players will do what they do.

  5. Very happy for my friend Coach Stewart, we've had some great battles when he was at Western and very impressive in year 1 taking the Knights down to state !!!

  6. The difference 8 years makes. 2015/16, this thread would've been 20 pages long by now.

  7. I applaud Doyel for hitting the IHSAA and Commissioner Neidig (and the MtV principal) squarely between the eyes. Its not just Cathedral, although you are probably the most visible state-wide. Any transfer from a public to a p/p gets heavily scrutinized. I've been involved in two transfer cases down here and the hypocrisy of the IHSAA is quite remarkable...

  8. Agreed 100%, as the WH I’m trailing, move on, move on, pancakes, two lineman pushing and shoving, you can usually talk them out of stupid stuff.

  9. Not offereing an opinion on the situation regarding these atheletes, but all of us in Indy metro need to be thankful Kyle Neddenriep is the primary voice of HS sports here. He is a true asset to what the HS sports experience is within Indy metro. He's balanced, he has the best interests of high school sports (and all that fits in that umbrella) in mind when he goes to work each day. I don't know that I've always agreed with everything he's written....but I've never seen any evidence he wasn't putting high school kids first in what, I'm sure, is a job with a lot of hours and pay that doesn't match the work he does. Can't say the same for the other guy...

  10. Quite a difference in the tone, and frankly the quality, of the two articles. One seems to be based in fact and what was directly said in testimony and interviews, the other plays fast and loose with editing of interviews and journalistic integrity as a whole. Doyle is not the "hero" he thinks he is.

  12. He didn’t have to punch it in at the end Coach. Cig wasn’t burning time outs. That was a choice. One coach is trying to build a culture with solid players and a previously lethargic fan base used to losing. The other coach was gifted keys to a Lamborghini without paying much of a price like Coach Cig to earn it. Quite earnestly, he’s stalled that car on several occasions so for him to act as pompous as he does is laughable. Trying to compare them as coaches and actions…not with you Coach. That’s just the Purdue in you talking.

  13. Yes he does and HH has a total of 4 players on the team that are state qualifiers

  14. The two teams are almost mirror images of each other offensively. Both have an outstanding RB who also plays LB (Dylan Krehl for EN, Josh Ranes for NP), a solid #2 running back that rotates in, a QB who can hurt you with both arm and legs, a very big offensive line, and they both run spread with a lot of the same concepts (power running with a vertical passing game), both feast on forcing turnovers ... EN has 41 takeaways this season, New Pal has 28, but has only committed five. NP had an impressive win over Chatard in the regional in OT, East Noble had an impressive win over Mishawaka that saw multiple lead changes and wasn't decided until the final possession. Otherwise, both have rolled through the postseason. I see what should be a very, very even matchup between two very good teams.

  16. Strategy was for the RB on his own to do what he did, his boss, the Head Coach, chose to finish the game the way he chose to do so. I fully understand having negative reaction to Coach Day's choice, all I am doing is interjecting some opin purpose of doing so from the high stakes / high income world of the B10+/NCAA football is and will continue to become, the true minor system for the NFL with a sprinkle in online class or 3. Actually, the not EXACT scenario, you are correct, however, THIS IS pretty DARN close and this happened in the Calendar year of 2024, recently fired HC Allen ended up apologizing, and threw the entire team under the bus, since they did it on their own, but it did happen. I have no qualms with you fellas and having this feeling. Just providing another viewpoint on a message board to discuss. Without Bias mind you 🙂 Coaching lens viewpoint if you will.

  18. It appears as if a Bonified change of address eliminates almost all issues....but not always. Not when the sending Principle is a scumbag. Why do these guys care, who wants to force a kid to play someplace they don't want to be. I don't want a kid in my program that doesn't want to be there.....and I won't want to punish a kid for not wanting to be.

  19. Well... I am not sure that just tallying "Wins/Losses" without looking at *how* they won/lost is really the best way to look at it. For example: One of those Ls was to 6A Homestead. Luers lost 14-19. Luers also lost 0-8 against Dwenger - a 4A/5A perennial powerhouse. So... Hardly blow-outs. Luers beat 5A Northrop and 5A North Side. They beat 4A Wayne (with two D1 recruits on that team.) Now -- how does that competition (wins or losses) compare to the matchups that HH won?? Well... that's really the question isn't it?? And I suspect that no one can really answer it... until Saturday. Should be fun.

  20. The Zionsville population has more than doubled since 2010. Their overall schools population has increased by 3,000 students since 2006. It is estimated they will see growth of 200+ students each year for the next decade that is not just High School though. Zionsville and Eagle Township portion of the Town of Whitestown are rapidly growing.

  23. Kyle does the best he can under the circumstances. He's a one man band as far as being a high school writer at our local "newspaper." I'm sure he feels he has to stay on the IHSAA side to keep his job. Any controversy would not be beneficial to his career. I have no problem with him being on that side of this situation. Doyel, on the other hand, is a columnist who points out the problems, and hard stories, of the city sports scene. I don't always agree with either of the Indy Star writers, but I do understand discrimination.

  24. 1A North Judson will be the home team in the opener at Lucas Oil. Last week they went gold helmets over blue jerseys and the gold pants. A great combo no doubt, if not a little Tulsa-ish. I'd assume they go with the same combo again, but they could always go gold/blue/blue or gold/gold/gold. (Photo courtesy of The Berne Witness) They will be playing the Providence Pioneers, who lucky for me seemingly only have one set of away unis. A nice all white kit. (Photo courtesy of providenceathletics.net) 2A: Leading off day one of state title weekend will be the Linton-Stockton Miners. Last week they wore their red/white/red away uniforms. This week I'd assume their wear all red from head to toe with blue and white stripes. I like the uni a lot. (Photos courtesy of Vincennes Sun-Commercial) On the other sideline will be the Flying Jets of Adams Central. Last week they went red/white/anthracite, and I suspect they'll run back the same combo. (Photo courtesy of @ACJetsAthletics on Twitter) 3A The home team in class 3A are the Bishop Luers Knights, and I believe they will be dressed in their all black uniforms, although they could throw in a red jersey or red pants. (photos courtesy of Bishop Luers Footall on Instagram) Facing the Knights will be the Patriots of Heritage Hills. I believe HH is gonna roll with a navy/white/navy combo, not sure they've worn anything else on the road this year. I LOVE that everyone wears the red socks. (photos courtesy of the Courier Press)

  25. No worries, I really like to see the different uniforms. Linton also has a blue alternate that they only wear on senior night every year. Still really enjoy the red more!

  26. So, the change of address clause is confusing because of the simple fact that private schools don't have an address requirement. If a student that resides in Gary and wants to go to Evansville Memorial then the student can because Memorial is a private school. I get transferring for athletic purposes, but both schools agreed that this is not the case on any of the 3. I say that we start a petition to get signed to gets these boys eligible.

  27. I spent quite a bit of time watching this game, Warsaw had the ball almost the entire 2nd half, kind of like Luers did against Garrett. It was complete domination by Warsaw in the 2nd half

  28. Off base here Coach. Comparing Day and Cignetti is laughable. Day arrived at Ohio State with pomp and circumstance, had every tool at his disposal, huge alumni support, 100,00 fans packing his stadium, 4 & 5 star recruits in bunches, just a ready made national title contender year in, year out. Cignetti comes to IU with probably with arguably the worst program in all of Power 5 conferences, no alumni support, an apathetic fan base with no positive history, 2 & 3 star recruits if he was lucky, just a terrible situation. Day had a player that slid down to the ground at the 2 yard line with the outcome decided and he made the decision to still run a play after that for a touchdown. Total classless act by a piss poor coach. What goes around comes around and I really hope that IU sometime soon before Day is fired, gets some vengeance

  29. Just doesn't seem like a beatdown to me. Pick 6's can really make a score look deceiving.

  30. I saw him wrestle as a freshman. He was very impressive even then. We as a team won 2 matches against them that year, but nobody beat him. My son was heavyweight, he won both matchups.

  31. Yes it is true now that Warsaw is in the state championship game every school in the NLC has made at least 1 trip to Indy. The only conference who can make that claim. Goshen has won it twice and Northwood and Plymouth once.

  33. Nah, the fighting with Carmel over land ended when Westfield became a city in 2008. That shut Carmel out as far as their aggressive goal of annexing land in Washington Township, which is the township where Westfield is located.

  34. I assure you, Goldsberry will NOT be the best player Luers has faced this year. Luers has faced players like Brock Schott and Landin Hoeppner (Leo), Kimar Nelson & Harold Mack (Wayne), James Early and Tristen Newsome (NorthSide) to name a few.....Goldsberry, as good as he is, isn't yet near the league of those players named.....

  35. I saw someone give mention to this last week as well. Has to be one of the most impressive tournament runs ever thus far. Capping it off by knocking off #'s 1. 2. 3, and 4 would be unreal. Speaking of impressive, that beatdown they handed to the Pirates was IMPRESSIVE.

  36. You started to answer your own question there, it isn't holding to block a player and land on top of him. It is a foul (a physical restraint, it doesn't have to be with his hands) to lay on top of him and not allow him to get up. So we have holding, which the blocker gained an competitive advantage, at the point of attack. It's also a judgement call, you won't see this called the same way every time. That wasn't the game I was referring to, it was film from the middle of the season that I was watching to scout a team before a game.

  37. I don’t quite get the outcry regarding Luers and the lack of respect. This is a state finals game and I know HH expects Luers to be good.

  38. I hear Arlington is free tonight if the Shamrocks want to move the game against Crown Point there. We promise to not allow @Lysander anywhere near the lights!! I don't know if there is much left at Compton St and E 61st street let alone electricity for lights or I would offer the Field of Champions at Broad Ripple, I know the IHSAA loves hosting games there! 😂🤣
