  1. It has been a long time since I'd been at CG for a game. Atmosphere is incredible. They make games a community event and put on a party.

  2. Jayson West 52-13 at LC with 2 state championship game appearances and 1 title. LC is 26-39 since he left and 3 postseason wins. "West had so much success because he coached in Conference Indiana." He was 15-5 vs the MIC at LC. Warren literally went out and got this guy because they couldn't beat him. No need to discuss his 60-17 record at Warren since he's at a big school with elite talent and it's so easy to win in the MIC or that he's 18-10 vs Carmel, Ben Davis, and Center Grove (winners of 8 of the 10 state titles in the highest class since 2001 that Warren hasn't won).

  3. Sectional. I’m not talking about HHC because I obviously feel that Seymour can enter the 2nd place race as well.

  4. If you take 100 games where the differential is 35 points in the second half you may have 1 or 2 where the losing team can make a legitimate comeback. I'll take 98/99 over 1/2 every time. This is something the IFCA has been discussing and debating the past few years. They all wanted some kind of mercy rule but couldn't agree on the score differential, reasons to stop the clock, restore after it gets to a certain point, etc. This was definitely much more than a 1-hour discussion. I agree with Bobref modifications will be discussed after the year, but I think they came up with a good, simple approach. Our game last night had the mercy rule the entire second half. The winning team ran one series with some of it's starters but thanks to the quarter rule subbed in the rest of the half. The home team got to play with their regular starters most of the second half to get more experience to get better against competition that was more of an equal. Both teams got the ball twice and 3 TDs were scored on those 4 drives. It was exactly why the mercy rule was implemented, and I thought it worked well. If this had been last year I don't think either coach suggests a running clock in the second half. That only seemed to happen if it was a 42+. Good job IFCA!

  5. Some MIC fans were still not taking New Palestine seriously. A few Center Grove folks I work with didn't respect them after New Pal's win last year because they said Center Grove "wasn't prepared" or "didn't take them seriously". Ever since that loss last year they pointed to this year's game saying New Pal will finally get the regular season loss coming to them because they "just can't hang with the big boys".

  6. New Pal in dominating fashion. Spegal is the best player in the state, and Hook very well might be the 2nd or 3rd best player in the state. Both are absolute STUDS

  7. He's probably too humble to brag on his own kid too much so I'll do it for him. He looked like the best player on field last night. Period. Kid is everywhere, don't think he ever left the field. Just a monster!! After that performance I'd hope not. The Dragons just wore them down in the 2nd half.

  9. Having witnessed many of his games, tonight might have been the most impressive. CG's defense is big, stout and fundamentally-sound. Charlie ran for 218 tonight - but of that, it was 128 on 15 carries in the second half. I wasn't expecting him to get anywhere near the record tonight, but I'm glad he'll have the opportunity to break it on his home field.

  10. After an amazing game tonight, he has eclipsed 8000 yards rushing (only the 2nd to ever do that in Indiana) and is 12 away from tying the all time rushing record. Safe to say he might break 10,000.. truly an impressive feat.

  11. That's the thing people seem to miss with the injuries. Sure, Stevens is really good but it's the line that makes them special. Most 1A and 2A schools don't have 8 linemen like that. I only dressed 7 linemen last night. I kept telling my kids this week it doesn't matter who the running back is, if you don't get penetration up front I could run wild on you. I probably could too in 5 yards bursts.

  12. The things I've heard about Kyle Ralph and the things I've seen him say and do have me feeling like even I'd run through a wall for him. Bob Gaddis of Columbus East is the only other coach I've said that about but, the difference is, I got to know him. Never met Kyle Ralph but I just have the utmost respect for him and his teams. I know this isn't popular with some people but I root for New Palestine and defend them to the haters whenever I come across them.

  19. He runs the 100 meters for NP's track team. He combines speed with difficulty to take down and is a real treat to watch in the open field (his run at the end of the first half in last year's title game was one of the most impressive runs I've ever seen). I'd take Charlie Spegal on my team in a heartbeat.

  20. The problem I have with this solution is that you used common sense to come up with it. This should never be tolerated when making decisions that affect lots of young people.

  21. I was looking for this thread last night and couldn't find it. That was the first time I've been at a football game at Center Grove. What a facility and atmosphere yesterday!

  23. I heard the same things from fans of other MIC schools, one in particular. One other thing I'd add is that not only is this team incredibly well-coached, getting it done in the weight room, has complete buy-in from throughout the program, and it's got a special senior class that's incredibly talented (with three players with D1 offers) ... the program is sound. There's a well-run youth league where players are getting good coaching and lots of reps starting in the first grade. There's a commitment to football throughout the community ... and that's likely to keep growing as the community grows. New Palestine is about to see a population explosion, as more than 1,000 houses are under construction or approved in the community right now.

  24. And a guy you didn't mention, Kyle King, is headed to Michigan State. He could easily be the Mr. Football position award winner at DL.

  25. If this were 1985, every major college program in the country would be lined up at the door. But he's projected as a fullback - a position few college teams use anymore. Charlie is faster than he looks. If he goes to West Point (which is one of the FCS schools where he has an offer), he'll thrive in their offense (and set himself up for life with a great education and a career as an officer in the military). Wherever he goes, he'll be a critical player for them.

  26. Still not passing a bunch but in two games Sigler is 8 out of 15 for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. 4 out of 9 VS. Tell City but had 2 or 3 drops by the receivers. I would like to see us do nothing but pass in the 1st quarter Friday against Pike to see how we do when we pass a bunch.

  29. Snider was up on New Pal 42-14 in the second quarter before the Dragon's started chipping away. It's a lousy rule, plain and simple.

  30. I don’t think the mercy rule should be in effect until the 4th quarter or a a higher point deferential. We went into a game on Friday up 36 so the mercy rule in effect entire second half (good for our team) but the other team did have a good effort to try to make a comeback and possibly could have had this rule not been in place.

  32. Just curious who exactly isn''t or wasn't taking New Palestine serious? I think they proved last year they could play with and beat Center Grove when they actually did. I would hope most around here (with the exception of a few) know Coach Ralph is and has been an excellent Coach since he has taken the job at New Pal. In my own personal opinion the stand out qualities I see in Coach Ralph: his teams win because he has them winning where it all starts in the weight room, he has been a master at having his offensive line play very disciplined and fundamentally sound, he has the ability to get his team to buy into his culture and schemes, he has been excellent at making sure his teams are very well condition (and they need to be with having 2 way players). Outstanding qualities for him as a coach and he has developed some fine young men. One question for Center Grove fans. Is Carson Steele still nursing a nagging hamstring injury. I don't ask because I feel he would have changed the outcome of the game. It certainly does hurt you not having your leading rusher, but New Pal is a fantastic team. I ask because I hope the young man is back on the field soon, I love watching him run hard just as much as I enjoy Spegal run hard!

  33. VL does have a very good D. It should only get better as well with the debut of a certain player next week. Heard he's a stud. That has been the lone bright spot. Considering the strength of the D, if and when the offense gets turned around, I like their chances rest of the year.

  34. It's a product of the long-tenured coaches at both schools. Tim Bless came to North in 2000 and turned them around from a bad team to a winner in 2003. Bob Gaddis came to East in 2001 and turned them around from a bad team to a winner in 2004. It took four years for both guys. Granted, North has had a couple of rough patches during Bless' tenure where they had 2-3 consecutive rotten seasons each (2008-2009 and 2012-2014) but they also play much tougher competition than we do. They can't reload as easily as East can. I encourage everyone, though, that you need to see the East/North rivalry at least once in your lifetime. The atmosphere is incredible and you need to get there an hour before kickoff if you want to find a seat. It's quite a spectacle.

  37. Madison Grant finally has a season where they have more than 13 players and this genius decides to grace everyone with his words of wisdom. I think I have you figured out already. Either you are an ex player from the 08 season that did nothing more than sit the bench and wash Randy’s car for him on Saturday after film or this is Donald Trump trolling the CIC thread. Not every team gets a chance to play powerhouse teams like Eastern. Besides, isn’t your Trac phone out of data? Maybe it’s time for you to hang it up? I like the sugarbritches thing, I may just change my screen name over to that. Just let the season play out and we’ll see how close my predictions are.

  38. His numbers are absolutely crazy. I think there should be more schools taking notice of this young man but Army is a top notch school and a great fit for him if he decides to commit there. His highlights are fun to watch. Definitely a guy i I think most of the state can get behind when it comes to a Mr. Football candidate

  40. Warsaw's kicker Harrison Mevis was amazing tonight. Booted FG's from 46 and the game winner from 51 and put all his kickoffs 5 yards out of the back of the EZ every time. Definitly a D1 caliber talent. Great game for both teams.

  42. @ptr Souths #1 rb left game in 1st quarter as did their jr 6'4 260 d lineman both of those guys sat the scrimmage both were injured and out by halftime tonight. Add in the first year qb and a few interceptions and a martinsville team that out hustled and wanted to win more and well you wound up with a 22-6 loss. All the energy was on martinsville sidelines and stands. South filled their stands but didnt seem as loud as the opponent stands. The better team won tonight .

  44. I was not a professional football player, I played Division 3 and suffered numerous injuries. My Junior year after three knee injuries, two shoulder injuries and a recent back injury, I went to my Head coach to discuss if I wanted to continue playing. The process of working out in the off season, starting the season, getting hurt, then rehabbing, only to get hurt again wears on you. You can easily get to a dark place. I continued to play, but four surgeries by age 36 has really made things difficult. Everyday I am in pain so I get why Luck walked away.
