Craziest series of plays I've seen. Height of Convicts vs. Catholics. Andrean down 7 with two minutes remaining in the Sectional Championship. Andrean @ Griffith - 4th & 263 points

Someone mentioned flag football, I could see this becoming a varsity sport before 8-9 man full contact football. Since the onset of the head trauma issue, I've seen the increase of youth flag football participation. I don't have any facts/data to support other than observations for sign ups in our area. I'm really torn on this issue, both sides make very valid points. As an observer of school that is on the list for contraction (Bishop Noll) over the past 5-10 years, it was very disheartening to see 20 kids (give or take a few) on the their sideline and then just get completely beat down on the field. I felt awful for the kids, coaches and parents. I was an advocate for us to quit playing them even thought BNI was our fellow Catholic school in the Region. I would often think why do they even have a team? How do they practice? etc. However on the flip side, those athletes on BNI were competing, enjoyed playing, enjoyed each other, never gave up, were proud of their school, and took enjoyment in the little wins (a play, a td, a interception, etc.). So when I look at it from the view of the student/athlete that is playing and enjoying it even though the scoreboard is very lopsided, I'd say let them play. After all, isn't it about the kids?2 points

https://twitter.com/FSIndiana/status/1200913903963656194?s=20 I'm fully aware of recency bias, but this play in the state finals last year was one of the most amazing runs I have ever seen in person.2 points

Best hire by Noblesville in the last 20 years and I think portage turns the program around starting this year. Great conversation starter DT, much better than the contraction conversations 😉1 point

Unfortunately, I do believe that CV will have an impact on participation levels at all schools and enrollment declines at P/P due to economic impact. Then I think it will be the decision of the administrators at these schools whether to contract. If contraction is the decision, I would still like to see these student athletes be given a chance to play somewhere; a school in their district, adjacent district, even P/P if they can afford it. I completely understand the logic behind the MR and thus contraction. My opinion is this should be up to the leaders/administrators for each High School/District not a mandate from the IHSAA. I think the IHSAA should be involved especially in regards to eligibility and participation at other schools that offer that sport. I'm all for the student/athlete and increasing participation in all sports/activities.1 point

They were sacrificed in the name of cutting government budget and not during a pandemic. Something I thought you were a proponent of? Guess you're all for big government spending after all?1 point

Not sure I would define it as best, maybe craziest. Cathedral trailed Reitz 35-34 in the 2007 semi-state final (blew a 13 point lead with less than 4 minutes to go). Now Indianapolis Colt Jack Doyle catches a Hail Mary but is ruled down inches before the goal line. Edit: Found a better angle right down the goal line. Doesn't get much closer than that1 point

Except that youth football in Indiana has already started seeing leagues with 7-man and 9-man full-pad/full-tackle teams playing in them. Included in schools playing this type of ball is a 2018 and 2019 sectional winner 5A school and a 2018 state champion 3A school.1 point

There was an ESPN documentary about a 6 man team in Texas. That made me think. Football has a place regardless of how many players are on each side of the ball. 6 or 8 man would be followed.1 point

Macomb man with COVID-19 says Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin saved him https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/macomb-man-with-covid-19-says-hydroxychloroquine-azithromycin-saved-him "I was struggling to breathe. I felt like I was slowly drowning and I was sitting there thinking I'm not going to make it until midnight," he said. Santilli says the experimental drugs Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin brought him back from the brink. The 38-year old was prescribed the drugs a little more than a week ago at Henry Ford Macomb where he was hospitalized for COVID-19. He says a doctor told him they'd exhausted treatment options. An infectious disease physician recommended he try both. "He stated at that point for COVID-19 patients they saw a lot of positive results in China and South Korea it would be advantageous to try it," Santilli said. "Right away I saw improvements in a few hours: the gasping for air stopped; a lot of my symptoms went away, and really it was a turning point almost a 180 degree turn as to what I was experiencing." The FDA recently approved shipping Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine products to public health authorities across the country to treat severe cases of COVID-19. It said it is reasonable to believe they may be effective in treating COVID-19 and that the known and potential benefits outweigh the risks. "It does appear as though Hydroxychloroquine may be beneficial," said Dr. Rudolph Valentini.1 point

I don't think the timing is right for this yet, Sanders is still on the ballots. Governor Cuomo will be pushed forward as a suitable alternative to the former VP when the time is right. (ie: Sanders drops out) IMHO.....1 point

2 things. I say not an "if" anymore because I believe 8 man is happening. A longer stay at home order for Indiana probably won't happen until both Ohio and Illinois do it...It seems we've been more reactive instead of proactive....but that's a different topic for a different forum. I hope we get a season too!1 point

I saw that one live and it was unbelievable! Love the officials’ garb. Note that the R is wearing an adjustable band cap in a state championship game. And the line judge was tragically late to the goal line on the TD.1 point

That's pretty awesome. With RB Wright also having a BGSU offer, that's two guys with sure fire D1 offers. Full ride D1 guys out of Floyd have not happened very often over the years. Congrats to the two and the program.1 point

It could be done with some planning. Facilities have improved enough to make it possible (turf fields with sufficient seating in both the home and visitor sides). This would have been relatively easy to assign during the 2019 season. This is assuming that the host schools would be willing to do this, but it could have looked something like this: @ Warsaw Valparaiso vs Dwenger East Noble vs Hobart @ Lafayette Jeff Carmel vs Merrillville Eastbrook vs Andrean @ Kokomo Chatard vs Mishawaka Marian Lafayette Central Catholic vs Adams Central @ Warren Central (or Arsenal Tech) Ben Davis vs Center Grove Western Boone vs Triton Central @ Martinsville Evansville Memorial vs Mount Vernon Heritage Hills vs Danville @ Columbus North New Pal vs Bloomington South Indianapolis Lutheran vs West Washington1 point

Personally, and I hope I'm wrong, I think if school is cancelled for the rest of the year, we won't be able to start any kind of football until after the last dead week in July. No sources, just my thoughts.1 point

Just so happens this was one of my very favorite games, too. Both teams 11-0, ranked #1 & #2. They brought our crew all the way down from the Region for this sectional final, which was unheard of. Just a brutal, physical game. Danville made a furious 4th quarter comeback using, of all things, a passing attack. They were basically a 100% option attack at the time. Scored with just a few seconds left and, to their credit, went for the win and didn’t get it. Unbelievable atmosphere and the type of effort from both teams that you don’t see but a few times in a career. One of my top 5, for sure.1 point

One change....change what is allowed in the Summer to lifting, conditioning and agility only again. While the 12 practices MIGHT help, it is my contention most teams peak earlier than wanted as a result. The time commitment involved has increased dramatically, and while numbers may be up in participation, the decline is obvious. I do think more kids are choosing to not play because of the time commitment involved. While 12 practices may not seem like much, it really is a lot considering the time available for many programs to get those practices in. I would add many programs are doing additional days where they are just lifting and conditioning. There may be a point we can look at and say this helped the game here, but I also see that we are reaching a point of diminishing returns.1 point
