  6. I thought the field was in excellent condition. Heard that Turfdogs, the officail grounds crew of Cathedral, put between $5k to $10k into the field and it showed. They had started work on it back in April. A beautifully crowned grass field is a great site to see in 2019 at the 5A level.

  8. I cannot speak as to what level everyone's defense is on or whatever. I can tell you that Cass took a very conservative approach to Tipton. They had three line changes that week... the biggest being the center position. They had to replace a two year starter with a junior that just got converted to center that week. He had never taken a snap in a varsity game as lineman let alone snapped in a game. Let's talk about the in game action. Cass accumulated 100 yards in penalties to Tipton's 0 yards. The timing of penalties were bad. Many were more like 30-40 yard penalties. Twice after big pass plays down field...Cass turns to see a flag dropped at the feet of the QB. Holding penalties that negated the completion. Then dropped back 10 yards to the spot of the foul which then was marked 10 yards from there. Also Cass had an early fumble deep in Tipton's territory. It was not a close 28-7 game. Not arguing if Cass can hang with WL or not, just saying things are not always as they appear. No one on the outside has the full scoop.

  9. Your point about potential schedule conflicts is valid. I have several officiating friends in Illinois and they've never mentioned it. Maybe they get the Friday playoff assignments. Keep in mind very few officials advance in the tournament and Illinois with a qualifying tournament have even fewer who get a playoff game. But that would have nothing to do with advancement in college. We've just had a very good run of guys who have advanced. When I started there was only 1 NFL official in Indiana and maybe 4 or 5 Big Ten officials. Now there are 6 NFL officials in Indiana (most who went through B1G), 5 B1G, 5 MAC, and 5 MVFC officials. Most of that group were HS and/or small college officials when I started. Many of them probably worked your middle school games back in the day. It's very hard to advance past the D3 ranks as spots are more limited and competitive as you move up. The men and women who make it to the D1 or NFL level have put in a lot of time and effort and energy and been scrutinized heavily to even get to that level. Then the level of evaluation once you get there is even higher. Just because they aren't publicly reprimanded doesn't mean they aren't addressed. Some of you have attended the IFOA clinic in June. Our clinicians there usually include these NFL and college officials in addition to the top high school officials around the state. It would be like the state coaches clinic having Mark Nagy, Frank Reich, Mike Tomlin, Jeff Brohm, Urban Meyer, Brian Kelly, Kurt Mallory (ISU), Chris Keevers (UIndy), Mike Leonard (Franklin), and Mark Henninger (Marian) as your presenters every year. We are very blessed.

  10. Why the hate? Has two really good games vs Center Grove. And great games against Zionsville, Harrison, Michigan City, and Decatur Central. And he has several offers? Don’t understand why people come on here to put a kid down and don’t have their facts straight.

  11. I remember when Eastbrook(when we were 3A) and WL would play each other in the tournament, they were very good back then (around 2008) if i remember right the QB at the time won Mr. Football. Its nice to see teams keep the winning going as players graduate and new players filled in. Glad we are back down to 2A 🙂, very excited for the postseason to start. Cass is the real deal. They were the real deal last year, took us giving our best effort to barely beat them at home.

  12. I realize this is a troll, but at the same time as an official give me a good game regardless of class any day. In close games there are pivotal plays. Where everyone is laser focused, you know you have to be good on this play. There are a handful of games over the course of your career where every play of the game is like this. These games are rare, and among the most fun to work. And if you're fortunate enough to walk off the field knowing you had it covered, there is no better feeling in the world.

  15. I happen to know the crew working the Shelbyville New Pal game. They are driving from Evansville!! When there was a possibility the game wouldn't be played I expect they weren't heartbroken. Blowouts are the hardest games to work because you have to work harder to concentrate every play. Close games are fun because it's easy to concentrate. And they aren't stressful because you don't care how each play or the game ends. They are just another play.

  16. As a fan of PH i will be rooting for the Wolves, I know the program at NV is solid ans they are very capable of beating any team his will be a game that football fans should catch if possible. Its match-up like this that make high school football exciting. Best of luck to both teams.

  17. Well i am by no means a Seeger "Hater" and if they do win then yes it is a boon for the program. My nephew played on the State team, so i have done my cheering for the red white and blue. I of all people have no right to tell someone who they should or should not root for or wish good things for. Most of my responses are based on what i believe to be a logical outcome but if I had a crystal ball and knew the future i wouldn't be spending time on the GID. Best of luck to the PATS

  22. I haven't seen this much delusion since puff thought North Daviess could run the ball on LCC in 2009. Cass scored 28 on Pioneer, I can tell you Pioneer and WL defensively are not on the same playing field. If Cass scores 28 it'll be in garbage time against WL 3rd string.

  24. The leagues I worked when I started were pretty good (Brownsburg and HSE) because the leagues didn't tolerate poor behavior from coaches or parents. I did some CYO as well and don't remember that being bad. But when my son played CYO I saw nasty behavior from both coaches and parents. The kids just wanted to play football. Where I saw really bad behavior was rec league soccer and baseball where the officials were often 14-18 year old kids. I was stunned.

  25. In Little Gridiron we moved to Friday-night crews a long time ago ... over two decades ago. We used to just hire college students, but found it to be unreliable and not contributing to a positive experience. Nothing against college students, but there's a world of difference having professionals out there on the field; especially when there aren't professionals on the field. We pay more than when we hired the college kids, but the results have been worth every penny. The set of refs that we have do a great job working with the kids and also with the coaches too. We do have some situations where we have beginner refs on the field, but it has always been something like two experienced refs with a beginner ref. It has been a win-win-win all the way around. I know it's different in some other leagues as I've heard some horror stories from some of our refs that have also reffed in other youth leagues, but I hope that our league is doing its part to help make the experience more encouraging/rewarding for experienced refs and also to do our part not to run off the new guys.

  28. Dope; I had loads of great uncles who fought in WWII. But those people are dead; their kids didn’t fight to protect America in Korea and Vietnam, they fought to expand an empire. Also, my great-grandfather helped put John Glenn into orbit, so I’ve pretty much got y’all beat on the patriotic ancestor front.

  29. Relax and enjoy the week. We don’t get many like this. Personally, I don’t believe in bulletin board material. If you have to motivate your team with outside material, there may be a flaw in your operation. Now, I will admit that I find myself laughing at some of the garbage on here, and it may or may not have changed how I pronounce wolves, but it’s all for fun I think.

  36. I'm not even close to being a senior citizen. My father is a two time purple heart recipient of World War II. The "one before" my generation definitely fought the real Nazi's to preserve our republic. Libtards are easily manipulated, gullible fools.

  37. The worst area for these abuse issues are youth leagues. The coaches are often less trained and have nothing to lose. A high school coach has to answer to an athletic director and crossing the line too many times could cost him his job. Parents and fans at youth games are also much closer and can more easily engage the officials. In HS we are largely separated from the fans. We usually don't hear individual comments during games and rarely does anyone confront us on our way off the field. Many locations we don't cross through fans to get to our locker room. I think we are losing more officials who are working the youth games than those working primarily high school games due to abuse reasons. It seems most who leave the high school field are advancing in college (we have a disproportionate number of college officials working D2 through NFL compared to nearby states), work/family demands, relocation, or age/health reasons.

  38. This should be a great game as Mville is very talented and is great for region that they are back. Congrats for Coach Seiss and whole staff. The region is better when Mville is great. The hot mess of Valpo has won 17-18 DAC games over the last 2 1/2 years, and beaten Penn 3 times DT City has not been better then Valpo the past 4 years...stop saying that City has dominated the DAC ...they have not beat Valpo or won the DAC ...and you know it...I dont get why you keep on spewing a false narrative

  40. My only goal for this week is there’s no belittling coaches, kids, or programs. No rumors or bs. Hate or love Moore he has done a lot for my son and his friends. 2 great teams are going to battle Friday for the conference championship. 2 great coaches. 2 groups of great young men. Going to be a heck of a night in Cayuga. If wolves can stop the run, wolves 35 falcons 21. Please excuse tanka, he is obviously not from PH and enjoys his trolling.

  41. I'm not even going to argue with you. Facts are Facts. Seeger has won the games they were suppose to win, and have yet to beat someone they were not suppose to beat. I'm hoping this is that game they win that most think they don't stand a chance. This is Seeger's chance to prove this dog belongs in any fight. I will be shocked just like you if they pull it off, but I'm definitely pulling for them to do it. I'll also pull for them against South and North Vermillion too. But win or lose, a lot of locals in Warren County think this is the beginning of a new era in West Lebanon that might see some very good football being play at and away from Patriot Field.

  42. and the number of kids on the roster. NP had about 50 kids grades 10-12 available that night. Cathedral has 80 according to Max Preps. And it definitely comes down to philosophy with dealing with our conference and balancing playing time, reps, and staying sharp against bad teams. There will be a big game in 3 weeks at Delta.

  43. All I have to do is look up at the stands every Friday night to see how the community feels about him. Packed house. The pussification runs strong in 2019, I doubt Ralph really cares about those few that are getting hurt feelings.

  44. And I think it has to do with some of the reasons I stated above. There is a faction of Lawrence Township (Geist) where socioeconomic demographics are more aligned with schools like HSE and Mt. Vernon who are also closer in proximity than the drive out to Lawrence Central, along with a good percentage of kids who go the private school route (Cathedral/Chatard). Up until a few years ago Lawrence Township had districts and the Geist portion of Marion County fed into Lawrence Central. A good amount of those kids are still going to private schools, especially high school, while some are now starting to migrate towards HSE and Mt. Vernon. I also have a strong suspicion that Warren Central is still pulling some "athletes" that technically live on the southend of Lawrence Township.
