  1. Barring a last minute cancellation between now and Friday night, it appears that as we hit the half-way point of the 2020 season (that some thought would never happen and if it ever got started, would quickly be shut down) that here are how we are doing... 228 of 320 eligible for the tournament schools will have played games in all 5 weeks of the season. That's 71% of the state. That's also counting all schools who cancelled their seasons before we even started. So its actually closer to 75% of schools who actually TRIED to play football in 2020. Considering how ridiculous some school systems are with quarantining anyone with a pulse and how that's forced some schools to cancel games, when literally nobody on the team had tested positive for anything, the fact that we have 70-75% of schools who have played the maximum allotment of games is a real positive. Add in the fact that going on 5 weeks of football being played against different schools, traveling on buses to and from games, practicing in close quarters every day for 2 months and all the other "concerns" some had for why football could not and would not dared be played in 2020, and the numbers of actual positive cases of football players BECAUSE of playing football has to be incredibly small. Microscopically small. Most of the positive cases (which aren't many from a total % standpoint) that have come to light have been through some means outside of the football field. Or much more accurately, from perfectly healthy kids being told to stay away for 7-14 days because they may have had some kind of "close" contact with someone who may or may not actually have some sort of virus.

  5. It is true that over aggressive contact tracing has had a bigger impact than positive cases. Honest question, does anyone here actually know a kid who was contact traced out of school that actually became a positive case? Given that because of the fact you can't get a test to get out of the 14 day jail sentence, that the state HD is actually incentivizing kids to NOT get tested. No logical reason why that after 5-6 days of last exposure/contact that kids can't provide a negative test to get back into school/extracurriculars. Almost as nuts is the fact the IHSAA hasn't modifed its 4 and 6 day return to practice rules at least for the "year of covid". Fully aware that some health departments in the state have allowed "quarantined" practices in an effort to give kids a chance at getting back to play asap. It's a sad day when you need help from the health department to circumvent inaction by the IHSAA.

  7. I heard they got confused and turned the Salisbury Steaks into meat loaf and it ruined their whole Wednesday practice. They refused to service Jello with fruit chunks in the middle too. Darn near had a Riot.

  9. I highly recommend the Irish Tailgate. One of the great experiences in Indiana High School Football. I was invited a few years ago by @PHJIrish and found it to be the ultimate in pregame preparation, fine dining, and great sportsmanship.

  12. You win some, you lose some. Still proud of the Miners effort tonight. Give yourselves a chance to win and let the chips fall where they may. No such thing as “moral victories” obviously but at least the naysayers can’t say Linton doesn’t play anyone anymore. This loss, disappointing as it is will only serve to make the program better. If not in the immediate future, then maybe in the coming years as we continue to elevate the program to the next level.

  15. FC 38-10 over Jeffersonville. Coach Bragg called the dogs off real early in preparation for next week. Wenkers Wright did not play. Was in uniform and looked fine walking around. I’m guessing they felt they didn’t need him. FC came out of the game pretty healthy. Polk was a monster with 4 TDs in this game. He threw some absolute bombs. Some of the longest throws I’ve seen over here. Andrew Spurgeon ran the ball really well and probably had over 100 yards. Defense really stuffed the run all night. On to next week. I think coach Weber is a solid coach. I just don’t think they’ve had the horses lately.

  26. Thanks for the info. He sounds like quite a specimen. Can hardly wait to see him play for the Midshipmen. Every so often Navy picks up a stud RB. The last few years it was the QB. Hope that Mockobee is the next great RB at Navy. And I'm glad he chose Navy and Navy accepted him. You don't get accepted there just from having perfect attendance in high school. And you have to have a letter of recommendation from either a congressman or a senator. I can't remember which. Linton is no stranger to defending good RB's. They have played against several over the years. Of course most of them weren't D-1 recruits, but several were still good quality backs. Speed and power is a deadly combo in a high school running back. I hope that Eslinger is at full strength for the Miners in this game. IMO, he's the best LB on the team and is always around the ball. He has a motor that just doesn't stop. Good health to both teams.

  27. I ain't gonna lie ... while I share your confusion as to the strange change in schedule, that's going to be a cool match-up for Harrison. I'm hoping its across all the levels as my son plays on the freshman team for Harrison and that weekend was vacant due to the recent Muncie Central quarantine. Also looks like it's going to be a home game for Harrison, so I'll maybe get a chance to see that one ... and maybe even both varsity and freshman if all levels are scheduled.

  28. One playermaker of his caliber in HS can carry a team and it's impossible to replicate his qualities in practice. Unless you've played with or against a DI "athlete" (talking about position), you don't understand how much angles change and how you just have to grab on until others can come help clean up the tackle. With that being said, I hope Linton -- a storied "small school" with a proud tradition and fan base -- gives our now PAC brethren all they can handle, but ultimately go PAC.

  29. Reitz would have complete run of the West Side and Rex Mundi would pull from North, Central, Bosse (OK shared with Memorial), and Reitz (kind of scary...)

  30. Not so fast my friend (in my best Lee Corso) This game is one of the more intriguing match-ups this week I believe. Having scouted both...I think it’s pretty close to a toss-up..from what I’ve seen- I may give the edge to Linton.

  34. I couldnt agree less, my man. The school doesnt owe football players anything. Its a privilege to play for your school and your town. Its an honor. Kids do not DESERVE the right to play sports. Its extra curricular and its a privilege... ..and Merrillville will play plenty of games this year....at least nine...probably more..../ I think with Valparaiso (one of the state's 10 best teams in any class) coming in 2 weeks, the Pirates should just chill (that's region hipster talk) this weekend. Winning does matter.,,and a week off is better than 'Pickin' up Strangers' (Johnny Lee - 1983)

  35. All for it, as those were just a few of my silly ideas. Why not a rematch of the state finals a few years ago? Lowell-East Central. Maybe Andrean vs. Evv. Mater Dei or Penn taking on New Palestine, plenty of options.

  36. Much respect for South Adams, but I'm not sure they could topple a Snider team having bad year. I would love to see it play out, but I'm not sure a SA win would be realistic.
