The problem with this post is you are pretending that the vote is being done by "an average person" This not being voted on by Media, By sports reporters, this is being voted on by entire IFCA membership. So what I am saying, is that perhaps, just maybe, that COACHES, may just value a STUD OFFENSIVE LINEMAN who had pick of the liter in offers, choosing to go to Notre Dame, just may find his name on Mr. Football this year. Perhaps it will be QB or WR or RB too, however, these sentiments are living in past protocol, this is year 2 of full state wide vote, not just a limited amount. So Society does not matter, and the average person does not matter. COACHES, they however, they matter in this particalar case and I personaly take this reponsibility in the vote very serious and appreciate IFCA moving to this protocol

I think the key in all of it really needs to be commitment and safety. I've coached contact youth football here in Indiana for 18 years with grades 3rd - 6th. If you are doing contact football, technically at any level, half-*ssed, then it's not good for any one. You can also turn a kid off from the sport if you set them up to get hurt by not teaching them the proper ways to hit, take a hit, block, etc. The idea is doing a good job teaching them how to do it and instilling their confidence in themselves to do it. I've seen it done the right way and the wrong way. With that said, I don't have an issue if folks want to do flag football until later; but it just probably wouldn't be for my kids and for me. I've had folks that have come out of 1st and 2nd grade flag football programs who told me that they saw more contact and concussions in flag than in the time their kids played football into high school. Just like contact football, I think flag has to be done right as well. Some of the leagues are run-and-gun leagues that are all about "pitch-and-catch." Coaches that do a good job making sure that all the kids can do something in the middle of the action go a long way to getting kids involved. Also, and this is just something that I think made a world of difference in the games that I've coached, is that our league used varsity high school refs. Most of the refs that we had were great about not only keeping us coaches honest, but also teaching the kids and the coaches the game. They also sometimes added a newer ref to their crew on the weekends to pick up some extra reps and experience. I don't necessarily see it as an either/or kind of decision. I would HIGHLY suggest that parents go check out the leagues before getting their kids involved. I've invited folks with kids that are too young to play in the league to come out and watch a couple of games during the season and, if they want, to come watch a couple of practices too.

unless he refuses to switch positions this kid with an added 20 lbs is full ride defensive conversion to linebacker or a lighter DE....if Tom Allen's kid can play defense at IU so can Steele....and be more athletic doing it.

It is correct that we start tackle in 5th grade. As for the forward pass....they don't get to learn that until week 5 of their senior season and that is on special occasions.

Goes back to High School days, I believe Coach Shattuck was Coach French's H.S. coach, then he wound up playing D2 ball at SJC and Coach Shattuck wound up at Seymour where Coach French went to teach and coach out of college, then went back up north to Eklhart with as well. A great story and yes, a future HEAD COACH for sure in Coach French

Maybe 20-30 years ago coaches were core academic teachers, meaning they were teaching classes in which state or district mandated testing was in place. I am sure that most big school head coaches, especially in the DAC, have an assistant AD, Dean, student services, or strength and conditioning coach position in which they are tied to their football programs more than half the day. I can't imagine a social studies, science, math, or English teacher having the energy to teach 5-6 periods a day and run a program, which also includes over seeing a middle school program. Another item to consider if you are a head coach at a big school is how many of your coaches can come with you, how many teaching positions will the district create for you, and the level of cooperation from the youth football program you have.

If you agree that part of good parenting is teaching your kids good decision-making skills, then you need to involve them in decision-making long before then. They don’t just wake up on the morning of their 18th birthday, having been dusted overnight by the “good decision-making fairy.”

5th grade is when we start. I know there are some that start much sooner. I don't think it is necessary. I think it may steer more kids away from football than to football if you start in say, 1st grade. We play flag through 4th grade and the objective is simply to make it fun so that they will want to play in 5th grade (tackle).

The Texas School for the Deaf has qualified for a state championship. Good Luck to them A couple of comments: 1. They were able to transfer this season from 11 to a 6 man team due to COVID. Not possible in Indiana 2. Would any school ever think of using a bass drum on the sideline to call signals instead of verbally. Could cause problems early for defenses.

I will make the solid argument for Emil Ekiyor (there is a reason he is starting at Alabama right now). Here is 1 highlight tape of his Sr season at Cathedral. He made a switch from Tackle to Center (his Tackle highlights are just as good as his Center highlights. He is a Guard for Alabama currently very fundamental and multi position OL. That being said Fisher is a great OL as well.

Cody French Elkhart's DC has had top 5 defenses the last 2 years. He has been with Coach Shattuck from the time he took over in Elkhart and helped rebuild the program.

A shame the game can’t be played. Notwithstanding bad teams, there have been some great games in this series. But I was an eyewitness to the greatest of them all: the 1971 38-31 Hoosier victory at Memorial Stadium. The game included Purdue Pete getting knocked cold with his own sledgehammer in the end zone, and the two marching bands brawling with one another on the field. A band fight! Nothing can ever top that!

Bud Wright Stadium - home of the Sheridan Blackhawks. Still active, but I think 9 state titles and 2 runners-up allow you that honor.

It's a 4 team "challenge"(does not include New Castle's team). Last year, there were 4 teams, with consolation and championship games. I can't find out who the other 2 teams are.

There are no made up positions. They all have to be listed somewhere in a job description and someone's teaching responsibilities and schedule are set by the district. You're suggesting some sort of "ghost employment" scenario which cannot happen by state law. So, you can hire a teacher and make them whatever you want, but that has to be an on the book position. Not sure what West's duties were at Warren, but he was listed as Assistant Athletic Director. That means he had a teacher's contract plus whatever stipend the AAD got and whatever the Head Football Coach got. I honestly don't know how "lay coaches" work. A fancy name for "Merit pay".

Some good common sense advice forwarded from one of my nurse friends. Common sense advice I have followed for many years in the RV industry and attending winter and spring RV shows with huge attendances numbers all over the country and Canada in every airport in every climate you can imagine and I can vouch that I have been able to avoid the worst ailments because of this. CORONA Common Sense Since they are calling on Respiratory therapist to help fight the Corona virus, and I am a retired one, too old to work in a hospital setting. I'm gonna share some common sense wisdom with those that have the virus and trying to stay home. If my advice is followed as given you will improve your chances of not ending up in the hospital on a ventilator. This applies to the otherwise generally healthy population, so use discretion. 1. Only high temperatures kill a virus, so let your fever run high. Tylenol, Advil. Motrin, Ibuprofen etc. will bring your fever down allowing the virus to live longer. They are saying that ibuprophen, advil etc will actually exacerbate the virus. Use common sense and don't let fever go over 103 or 104 if you got the guts. If it gets higher than that take your tylenol, not ibuprophen or advil to keep it regulated. It helps to keep house warm and cover up with blankets so body does not have to work so hard to generate the heat. It usually takes about 3 days of this to break the fever. 2. The body is going to dehydrate with the elevated temperature so you must rehydrate yourself regulaly, whether you like it or not. Gatorade with real sugar, or pedialyte with real sugar for kids, works well. Why the sugar? Sugar will give your body back the energy it is using up to create the fever. The electrolytes and fluid you are losing will also be replenished by the Gatorade. If you don't do this and end up in the hospital they will start an IV and give you D5W (sugar water) and Normal Saline to replenish electrolytes. Gatorade is much cheaper, pain free, and comes in an assortment of flavors 3. You must keep your lungs moist. Best done by taking long steamy showers on a regular basis, if your wheezing or congested use a real minty toothpaste and brush your teeth while taking the steamy shower and deep breath through your mouth. This will provide some bronchial dilation and help loosen the phlegm. Force your self to cough into a wet wash cloth pressed firmly over your mouth and nose, which will cause greater pressure in your lungs forcing them to expand more and break loose more of the congestion. 4. Eat healthy and regularly. Gotta keep your strength up. 5. Once the fever breaks, start moving around to get the body back in shape and blood circulating. 6. Deep breath on a regular basis, even when it hurts. If you don't it becomes easy to develop pneumonia. Pursed lip breathing really helps. That's breathing in deep and slow then exhaling through tight lips as if your blowing out a candle, blow until you have completely emptied your lungs and you will be able to breath in an even deeper breath. This helps keep lungs expanded as well as increase your oxygen level. 7. Remember that every medication you take is merely relieving the symptoms, not making you well. 8. If your still dying go to ER. I've been doing these things for myself and my family for over 40 years and kept them out of the hospital, all are healthy and still living today. Thank you all for sharing. We gotta help one another.

Looking back at the post season, I really feel like Mishawaka Marian and Concordia were a really CLOSE No. 2 and 3 in 3A last year. Over the last 2 years, other than 2 losses to Cathedral, no other teams played Chatard as closely as Marian and Concordia did in Regional and Semi-State this year. Hats off to the North this year in 3A.

I can think of 20 to 30 position players this year from 1A to 6A that all deserve Mr. Football before an O-Lineman. Now, if he never cam off the field, played both ways at a 6A school and was so dominant that he lead his team to a state title... maybe you could make a tiny argument, but that will never happen either. Sorry! Mr. Football for the Oline is what you get, and you should be extremely happy and proud with that distinction.

NEVER EVER EVER is a linemen going to win MVP, Heisman, or Mr. Football. Nor should they. If that was the case, if they affected the game that much then Avon would have got out of the sectional. Come on. It is what it is. QB, RB, WR, DB, LB they all affect the game way more. The patriots or colts don't win those superbowl's without Brady or Manning. The Chargers were never close without LT. Facts are Facts.

Western Boone will be in 3A so 2A south should be wide open anyway. In fact, every team that has represented the south in 2A should be gone going back to 2014 when MD was there. Webo (18, 19, 20), Southridge (17), Ritter (16), and Monrovia (15) I think all should be in 3A.
