  1. I guess Pioneer saw no benefit in playing 6A Chesterton (and winning) last year as well......................

  2. I always find it deplorable the way that people, and parents in particular, seem to go after younger refs, in youth sports. When done right, youth sports are a great training ground for upcoming refs. It's a great opportunity for education for players as well as refs. When I coached in Little Gridiron, we often had more experienced refs ... the league paid the money to hire Friday-night refs and often those experienced refs would bring newer refs with them and would enhance their training during the games. Things such as the communication signs, how to talk to the chain crew, and even simple things like halting the game for a minute to explain to a kid and/or the coaches why a particular call was made and how to avoid that in the future. Baseball is perhaps the worst place that I've seen officials, especially young officials, berated. The parents are really close and, apparently, believe that their tournament entry fee also makes them members of the officiating crew. Having coached youth sports for over a couple of decades across two different sports, I very much understand and appreciate the role of officials in the games and experience and especially how touch it is for newer/younger refs. As a parent at baseball games, I try to tell the umps thanks after/between games when I see them at the fields or concession stands or in the parking lots. For the younger refs, I also try to toss in some encouragement, even if they struggled. I also make it a point, if I see the tournament supervisors or officials supervisors walking around, to tell them about the good job that their younger officials are doing. We are facing a crisis with the population of officials getting tighter and the last thing that we should be doing is running off the folks who are interested at an early age in being a big part of it.

  3. Listen, whatever disagreements you have with the officiating crew needs to end when the game ends. This kind of abuse is appalling. In what kind of world is this ok?

  4. In another sport, my oldest ended up as an All-State player, HS All-American and later played in college. He picked up his official’s license and officiated his first game his Senior year in HS - a 5/6th grade game. After, the abuse hurled at him by parents and one particular coach (who was and is a HS coach to this day), he never officiated another game again. I hope they sue the pants off that school and anyone involved is separated permanently from the sport. There is no excuse for that.

  5. One game suspension is way too lenient for this kind of behavior! A few days in the slammer would be more appropriate.

  6. Part of it is timing.....I think if the week gets to a Tuesday and especially a Wednesday; it is more difficult to prepare than if a game is canceled over the weekend. Another possibility is teams may be playing short handed. While it seems there have not been many varsity games canceled, the fact is a LOT of rescheduling is going on with the sub-varsity teams.....a LOT. So, coaches weigh the risk of having to play sub varsity level kids on a Friday night. So, it is a program by program thing as to whether there is value in playing a game or not playing a game.

  9. Old timers at Scecina in Indy were in a similar spot. Although it's not a union hall, Shi Kay has a path behind it to the locker rooms. Dad's gathered at Shi Kay while the kids practiced. Kids walked the path to the parking lot; opened the door, and a dad's name was called out for the trip home. 😄 I had 4 brothers who lived that experience.

  10. I’m glad they’re pressing charges. That is inexcusable.

  11. https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/football-referees-trapped-in-locker-room-door-blocked-with-vending-machine-file-charges/ It is already hard enough to get officials. Sounds like an assistant coach and a couple of students may be the guilty party. I have had my share of "conversations" with umps and referees over the years but always left it on the field. There is no place in sports for this behavior.

  12. Unlike high school union halls, I suspect that there might be beer served at the Steelworkers Local 1010 hall on Friday nights. Maybe that's why there are so many folks signed up for the tennis team. 😀

  17. I would personally like to see more talk about the team's rather than a crap shoot of who thinks who will win. Just my 2 cents

  18. If they can do that, I would certainly agree but I likely feel the same even if they can only keep it within 2, maybe 3, TDs.

  19. Amazing isn’t it? Think of it this way. There are approximately 8 billion human beings on the planet. The number of them who can do that with any degree of confidence can be counted on the fingers of one hand … and you’d have fingers left over.

  20. I’d call The Hammer and Stanley Kahns. No locking up the refs. STATE LAW!

  21. You would be surprised at what kids get away with now! We live in a different time frame. As a former coach I do not agree with it but it is what it is. The AD at Eastbrook is a great man and always does the right thing. May not always agree with everything done but these kids are doing nothing different than we did 20-30 years ago. Problem is everyone has social media and knows everyone's business! Let these kids learn from their mistakes and move on! I have seen other kids throughout the cic get away with alot worse. I hope Alexandria puts up a decent fight but not holding my breath. They will have to score 50+ to be competitive and we all know that won't happen. Alex cannot stop anyone with that defense!

  23. You know, this sort of thing comes at a tricky time. Don’t think officials are not closely monitoring what comes next in situations like these. And by a “tricky time,” I mean the continuing shortages has given officials huge power … that they have shown no inclination to use … yet. But officials have a scarce resource that is much in demand. If the local officiating association refused to work games at that school until certain measures relating to officials’ safety and security were implemented, it’s not like the school can just go out and hire replacements. Beware waking the sleeping giant.

  29. IU's schedule looks vicious. This could be bad. Looks like I'll be wrong again. No way Indiana gets 8 wins. Now I'm betting that they they finish 6-6...........and that's being optimistic.

  30. The only "punishment" that we are talking about is the public punishment that we see as fans, missing a game. There could be several levels of "punishment" to the players\students involved that we don't see or hear about, i.e., community work, fixing whatever they had done, formal apologies to whomever may have been affected by their actions, list can go on and on. I'm sure the coaching staff took this seriously as I'm sure the school itself did as well. Just because they may be back on the field this week does not mean that the repercussions for their actions have ended. As far as being at full strength, guess we'll find out tomorrow night. Running clock either way. Streak continues.

  31. I may be in the minority here, but No. Other than playing a school 3X Webo's size just to play, I don't see any benefit in playing that game.

  32. The only two games Roncalli lost were shutouts pictched by FC and New Pal. Give her runs and she wins. Hey, what is this? A softball message board??? 😜

  33. Not sure why this game wouldn't happen. Both squads have played Western already. Kokomo beat them 28-14 in week 1 and Western Boone lost a close one 28-26 in week 2. Kokomo is the bigger school and would be favored, although I think it would be reasonably competitive, but playing any football game has to be better than not playing one at all. Right??

  35. Wow. That school needs to forfeit the season.... Once the game is over, its over. That's a criminal act....and the home school has to pay the price.

  40. Isn’t NV 2-3 right now with wins over the RP Pretenders and North Central Farmersburg? And after this week they will be 3-3 with wins over the 2 mentioned and the sinking ship that is Rambler Dan? The best thing about the WRC is when the NV Falconmarts are good or “THINK” they’ are good 🤣🤣🤣. The talent discrepancy between the Falconmarts and the Wolfs is so great that it honestly won’t matter if Nick Saban was squaring off against Dabo Swinney in that game. How in the world are the Wolfs going to get beat by the D1’s? The Wolfs will stake claim to being WRC champions in what will go down as the weakest WRC football season in history.

  47. Kokomo style of play does not fit WeBo defense very well. I wouldn’t play this game either. Need to work something out with Peru. Or have Frankfort send the JV and take the L. Pelley could promise to pull the starters in the 1st.
