I had a friend text me the initial sequence with the shove in the back that started the melee. Then saw the video of the “fight”. It just saddens me to see such events. I have no idea of history of the two teams, mood of the game, etc. This whole thing just seems a microcosm of society today. Sports are suppose to be a diversion, something enjoyable to entertain us, part of the educational process for the participants. These kind of events just puts a black eye on everything. The IHSAA has a history of dealing with these sorts of things pretty harshly and I’m sure they will be in the office bright and early this morning dealing with this situation. I just think it’s time we as a society stand up and say “this type of behavior is unacceptable under any circumstances”. I am in no way attempting to place blame on anyone in particular, I’m sure there’s plenty of blame to go around.5 points

I hope Mississinewa's coach takes the appropriate measures to address the issues on his team, regardless of what circumstances led to them. Player discipline has been lacking in the CIC this season.4 points

This exactly. #21 (the kid who initially got blasted from behind) was trying to get too #62 (the kid that did the late hit) but a coach saw it coming and was blocking #21 from going after him. I watched the video about 15 times trying to find a kid going after a coach and just realized nobody knew what they were talking about.3 points

High Road again...for those of you that know me.... Ain't happening in my games... Try a slur, and see where that get ya, a WEEK OFF no questions asked!!! Collar Greens.... Get with the program 😄2 points

No. Accusations are meaningless. People will accuse others of anything to help justify their own wrong actions. It needs to be officiated. If an official hears a slur, should be a flag, a penalty in the game, and noted for review. Then a set of rules should be established for an accumulation of these types of penalties. I don't know if you group it with other unsportsmanlike conduct penalties or you create a whole new category for it but that can all be decided upon. There just needs to be some sort of structure and it needs to go beyond an opponent saying the other team said this or that.2 points
-
Why I said probation at minimum. If your team is even accused by 2 consecutive opponents of using racial slurs, that's enough. If proven true, then even more. One accusation would not warrant anything but an investigation. Hard to believe there isn't anything after 2 consecutive weeks though.2 points

Pictures that were posted by one of the schools photographers, the school administration was on the sidelines helping to separate the teams. Mississinenwa administration will take action against the player(s) involved. The current coach, I'm not sure what action he will take but being a former college assistant coach and in his second season at Mississinewa, he should use this incident to set a precedent for discipline for the entire team. In my opinion the player is done for the season. He would have to attend practice but not be allowed to participate because he would be running laps the entire time around the baseball field or track. Then on Friday night, he is allowed to go to the game but he has to stay either with coach's in the press box or with a school administrator and NOT be allowed to wear the jersey. Suspension should carry over to next season as well. Other thing is the player is ineligible to a team Captain in any sport the remainder of high school.2 points

#62 from Miss shouldn’t play another down of football this year. I would like to see the IHSAA thoroughly investigate this weekend with the officials to see if Wayne fan/players comments regarding the use of racial slurs is accurate. Multiple supporters of Wayne are claiming they asked the officials to put a stop to it. If the officials validate the claims, no damn reason Miss should be allowed to play next week. No Place for that garbage in the game!2 points

Interesting. You should definitely post the Hudl clip that shows it was a catch and clear all this up!2 points

HH never quit. They never gave up. The fans support never quit on them either. What a testimony to their fans, coaching and program.2 points

I feel for the officials in games that get so overheated. Tough balance - because I’m sure they don’t want to look like they have an itchy trigger finger. Officials hate the idea of affecting the outcome of a game…especially a tournament game. But I’m with you on the early intervention. Maybe the IHSAA should give them an intermediate tool between a verbal warning and disqualification…like a 1 quarter or time-based suspension. Give them some time to cool off and the distinct feeling of consequences.2 points

Agreed, Coach Ralph and staff will definitely do their best to find a way to stifle the Cathedral Irish. I honestly respect Coach Ralph his staff and what they try to do! Win or lose they always try to come with a plan and are well coached. Yeah there has been a few parents/fans with that mentality. I look at Coach Peebles and Coach Ralph differently. While I think both will use things to motivate their teams. I don"t think it will be the end all be all. I think both are about teaching fundamentals and making their team better each week. Regardless win or lose both coaches will put their best foot forward to teach their players how to play football! Definitely some parents will (I would expect no less) I think both coaches are focused on teaching lessons and making their team better. At any rate all love to you and I hope your family is doing well! I hope your son is enjoying his college experience!!2 points

As I said, the Mississinewa player was in the wrong and took a blindside cheap shot. Yes, Wayne's players were going to protect their teammate, but once the 2 or 3 got the Mississinewa player down the entire Wayne team got involved. Yes there were a few Mississinewa players that went into the middle, but like Wayne, they were going to protect their teammate. There have been accusations made by both sides of words exchanged the entire game and included references to a deceased parent and racial slurs. In my opinion, if the officials heard these type of exchanges going on, then they should have stop the game clock and pulled both coach's together to address the issue. Then tell each coach to address it to their teams immediately. If it was going on in the first half, the officials should have addressed it then with the coach's and teams.2 points

This wasn’t the first fight between two teams. There was a lot at stake, emotions were running high. Although it was a very bad outcome, It’s Trump’s fault.2 points

I don't want to put any pressure on 12 & 13 year olds, but their pedigrees are outstanding to say the least -- better than a washed up former player whose biggest claim to fame is losing to Chatard three consecutive years in the semistate, so now has to write about the achievements of others, ala journalism -- coupled with a solid freshman class. Middle school FB at HH has never really been about winning games. It's about learning a system, not having drama in the program, and keeping numbers up so they hopefully stay as freshmen. BTW, we want our Wahls back!!! In all honesty, best of luck to the Titans. We hope it's your year and you bring some hardware back to the PAC. Wish I could be in Indy during Thanksgiving Weekend! This year's seniors at HH played their hearts out, represented Patriot Football well, and proved that if you trust in the system, you'll be able to hold your heads high with a 9-3 record. Now it's time for the underclassmen to rest for a few weeks, then put in the work for next year.2 points

This reminds me of "back in the day" when I was known as "Rebeldad"! Had to change my name because we are no longer the Rebels! Had a former Roncalli Player come up to me last night saying a guy he works with who went to Cathedral said, "do you know whatever happened to that A-hole Rebeldad on the Digest". I had a good laugh at that. This is the first time in 20 years that I do not have a son who is either playing or coaching for Roncalli. Great game last night that was much closer than the score. Respect that Roncalli and Chatard have for each other is great to watch.1 point

The Boilers are bowl eligible!!! Here are some Gipperjections: 6-6 record (not very likely): Quick Lane or Pinstripe 7-5 (still not feeling it): Duke’s Mayo or Music City 8-4 (most likely): Las Vegas or Outback 9-3 (you never know): Citrus or Rose1 point

I think Sagarin showing Brownsburg 7 points better (5 + 2 for home team) is accurate. No one can predict turnover margin which was why the score was lopsided.1 point

I don’t think you know very much about Eastside and Coach Mason if you think they’ll lose the chip on their shoulder. If they lose this game, it won’t be due to lack of focus or intensity. Coach Mason and his leaders on that team won’t let it happen. I think Eastside pulls it off in a tight one.1 point

I appreciate the history of this rivalry, but as a fan, it has consistently been one of the most frustrating games to watch. At this level, the option should not be as difficult to defend as it is. Just looks like guys are trying to find the ball, rather than just attacking their responsibility. Lou Holtz teams actually seemed to defend these teams really well. That said, credit goes to the coaches at Navy for getting them to execute so well in this game. Just wish they could do it more consistently against their schedule.1 point

https://www.wane.com/high-school-sports/fight-for-sectional-championship-turns-into-brawl-in-gas-city/ It didn't appear that the Wayne kid was going after the coach. He was running toward #62 when a coach stepped in between them.1 point

Accusations are easy. I'm not saying they didn't happen but the bar should be set higher for punishment.1 point

This is interesting. I've heard Wayne has had issues with fighting at events. I've heard Ole Miss has been using racial slurs the last 2 weeks. See in the thread from a reliable source that Ole Miss #62 has had issues since summer. Hopefully #62 gets some help for issues he's having. He doesn't need to finish the season though. Both teams and programs should be on probation at minimum. Wayne having another incident and Ole Miss again acused of racial slurs. Hopefully Northridge takes care of business.1 point

They are and that's huge for those kids. I can remember when Pioneer used to bad at everything. My son, nephew and their friends were floored. All they know is Pioneer dominating at football, girls volleyball and softball every single year. i pictured a scene from rocky 4 last night when I heard the score early on (had to change the wordage) They are hurt! See they aren't a machine! They are human! good for LaVille. That gives them a big, big confidence booster for next season ..just hope not too much.1 point

Raiders proving me wrong through first half! Will be checking for updates while at the Warsaw game… Tiger have unfortunately had penalties, turnovers, and all sorts of miscues. The three week layoff did them no favors.1 point

I had em 9-3, split Iowa/Cincy (thought Cincy would be tougher game), losses at Penn State, and Ohio State. Beat Cincy and they're still on track. Tall task though, IU going to need to score a ton against Cincy to win that game and have little confidence. Michigan looked good against a pretty decent MAC team but still think jury out on them. Rutgers/Maryland/Michigan aren't slouches but games I still think IU should win.1 point

They went 8-5 two years ago and 6-2 last year and are now starting to see the dividends on the recruiting front. Two best winning % seasons IU’s had in 3 decades, not sure what you mean that it hasn’t shown on the field yet?1 point
