It's nice having "toss up" games... obviously anything can happen on any given Friday, but you know what I mean. These teams have made it to November, which is always a nice feat. In regard to class size in the NLC...I think in the near future Warsaw will drop to 5A and Northridge will move up to 5A. The Middlebury area is growing fast and the opposite for Warsaw. If that were to happen...Warsaw would make 5A North really interesting.

The Tigers are making their 8th straight appearance and looking for a 3rd straight title and 7 titles over the last 8 years. The Panthers have been unblemished throughout the season so far and knocked off a good opponent last week against BNL on the road. The Panthers have been consistently a top as one of the best offensive teams in the SIAC and in 4A. Averaging around 367.5 YPG and 35.3 PPG. Their passing game has been around the top in the SIAC at around 179.4 YPG and averaging 15.41 yards per catch behind their QB/WR duo. Since they have one of the best swiss-army players I have seen with WR/QB Vera and a very good receiver in Summers. Their Offensive line has been solid the entire year too, giving enough time for their QB to throw and their rushing attack to mold. Their rushing attack is still consistent this year after losing Burnett, as the Panthers have a few guys who can run the ball and make some plays. As a team, they average about 188.1 YPG and have scored 29 touchdowns so far. Arguably their best area, the Panthers are a defensive beast everywhere on the field. They live and breathe in opponent backfields gathering 94 TFLs and 46 sacks this year. While holding opponents around 200 YPG and 7.4 PPG. The Tigers are back in the sectional championship again for the 8th straight year since the 2016 season. And they get a home game for the sectional championship for the first time since the 2020 season. Memorial has had an interesting season so far, as they started off 6-0 and then fell into a slumber toward the end of the season. However, the Tigers are on a 2-game win streak in the postseason. Offensively, Memorial had a consistent offense up until QB1’s injury and has been questionable for the last several weeks going through 3 quarterbacks. And has averaged 264.3 YPG throughout the season. The Tigers have found a little something at QB with Ellspermann, however, still a lot of questions regarding offense. The rushing attack has averaged around 109.3 YPG this season and faced an injury bug in the middle of the season. Defensively, this is where the Tigers are strong, as they averaged 11.9 PPG on the season and have averaged around 215 YPG. The Tigers have averaged around 89.0 YPG in passing allowed, which tops the SIAC, and have picked QB 14 times so far. Surprisingly, Memorial’s run defense has seen a massive improvement since last year, as they also have been one of the top rushing defenses in the SIAC averaging around 126.5 YPG. And earlier in the season, led the SIAC in everything for a couple of weeks. The Tigers have playmakers on the defense, including a quick defensive line and one of the best linebackers in the State. Should be a good one tomorrow night at Enlow! But if you remember, Reitz dominated the first matchup winning 34-0 and blanking the Tigers offensively, we will see how this one go for round 2!

I don't think the community has or will loose faith in the program. While NorthWood has always had a strong football program, since Andrews has been here, there has been a lot of growth in the lower levels. 20 - 30 years ago, there was not a youth program in the NorthWood community. Most families had to look elsewhere to get their kids involved in football...Bremen at one time had a great youth program. In my opinion, the football program has grown under Andrews. There never used to be so much community / family involvement. I think that has to do with him being from the community and knowing everyone. With that, this year they brought in more people that have long standing connections with the community. NorthWood just hasn't gotten over that sectional hump since we went to State a few years ago. Northridge has had their number the last two years, however, there were "other" issues that lost us those games. That is reflected in the regular season scores against them. Before Northridge it was Leo and Angola...those 4 years they lost sectional games with a combined point total of 14 points. Way back it was St. Joe. In regard to the schemes that NorthWood runs....that's everywhere. No more are the ground and pound days with two backs featured in the NLC...gone also are the days of 4 big fellas on the D line holding up O linemen getting to linebackers. This year is an example of adapting. Early in the year, the defensive scheme just wasn't working (IE the Northridge and Warsaw games) and they have made some modifications (IE the Mishawaka game). I strongly feel as if NorthWood has the team this year to make a deep run. With all of that said...I don't think there are many teams in the entire norther part of the State (not including Chatard...they belong in the South) that have the football stability year in year out. NorthWood will be fine this year...and the years to follow and I think Andrews will be welcomed with the program for probably as long as he would like. Just one persons opinions / perspective.

Big Sectional Finals week for the NLC. Warsaw vs. Penn Northridge vs. Northwood Rematch Concord vs. Mishawaka Rematch. Would love to see Warsaw beat Penn showing them the strength of the NLC.

I'm not saying they were uncoached. My thought is that they are undisciplined and have a little too much "look at me!" for this football fan. I wonder why the coaches haven't toned down this behavior. That was the meaning of the tail wagging the dog comment not the scheme but the discipline of the athletes. I worked the chain gang as a sub one game when Bronson Yoder was a Senior and Northwood destroyed Plymouth. He was not only a great player but he was a great person to observe on the sidelines. He was constantly cheering for his teammates and didn't need to stand out. He was the epitome of a leader and a great player. At least from the one game that I observed him.

Uncoached? Hardly! These kids are playing better than they have for over three years. I just had some observations that I made. The transfer portal isn't as great as it seems...
