Thank you sir.... I know my notoriously long posts can be tedious at times...but I am a man of information LOL. I loved doing all that just got to where I was playing catch-up with everything life deals out. I will work this off-season trying to get all my files updated to where I can get back to those times.

Technically....QBs can NOT have "AP yards" per max preps. AP yards are a combination of Rushing, Receiving, KR, PR and IR. QBs can have "Total Yards", which is a combination of Rushing, Passing, and Receiving. I don't know much about the DeLong kid...but here is a little: Sean DeLong had 1,860 AP yards this season (1313 rush, 425 rec, 122 return) and 23 TDs. (GS school record) For his career, he had 4,300 AP yards and 48 TDs in 46 games as a starter. (GS school record) Defensive career stats include 29 tackles, 2 for loss, 1 sack, 3 interceptions. State Champion and First Team All-Conference RB as a Sophomore. All Area WR, 1st Team All Conference WR, IFCA JR All-State WR as a Junior. So far 1st Team All Conference RB as a Senior. Currently has offers from Ky Wesleyan College, Taylor University, and Georgetown College.

Its pretty well understood that p/p schools do have advantages over public schools, which is why parents that are able to offer these opportunities to their children send them there as opposed to public schools. These kids, in most cases, have excellent family support and the opportunities to flourish in safer, more structured environments. If there were no advantages, parents wouldn't send their kids there. This translates to the football field. A better question in my eyes is what makes the public schools that are traditionally successful, competitive most years. Small schools will always have ebbs and flows in talent, class sizes etc. What do Adams Central, Linton Stockton, North Judson, Pioneer, Webo, Sheridan, Eastbrook, etc do that make them successful consistently??? Is it weight room dedication, culture, coaching, game philosophy, youth programs? I've always been of the mindset if you don't like losing get better. Trying to make a universal system of equity isn't going to happen, nor should it in my opinion, so go out and work harder/ coach better. Build up your regular season schedule to prep for the tournament, stretch your teams in summer scrimmages, participate in 7 on 7's and most importantly get your kids competing in the offseason (track, wrestling, basketball, etc)!

Three p/p schools, whose total constituency make up probably around 10% of the football playing schools in the IHSAA, have just taken home 50% of the available state championship trophies. The p/p hegemony continues unabated, with the "success factor" doing little more than rearranging the deck chairs. This will continue as long as the IHSAA stubbornly sticks to a primarily enrollment based classification system, and not a system that truly measures the historical success, or lack thereof, of Indiana high school football programs.

Wondering about Chris Creighton at Eastern Michigan? Before he took the program over, EMU was a doormat in the MAC. Being a former Wabash coach, he may have some ties to the Hoosier State. Another possibility?? Curt Cignetti has built a super strong program at James Madison, moving them from FCS to FBS.

At Center Grove in 2024. Host Center Grove in 2025. Replace them and renew with Warren Central in 2026.

Outside of Adams Central, how successful have some of those teams been as of recent? Outside of Jack Kiser's years, how successful has Pioneer been in tournament play? A state runner-up, a sectional or two, and a regional? How does North Judson's success stack up against a Luers, Chatard, Lutheran, or LCC? Three straight trips to semi-state all losing by 35+. Same for Sheridan. Webo and Eastbrook can't make it out of sectionals anymore. I'm not disagreeing with you. All those teams are great programs with great football tradition. But they go four or five years before they go on a run again. The p/p's maybe have one down year before they are reloaded for four or five years, one down year and reloaded again. This is the difference in p/p's and publics. p/p's can get that guy or two that just takes them to a different level in the lower classes. Doesn't always happen but there is always the chance.

In all seriousness, if everyone really wants to find a way to limit the number of p/p championships, I have a radical suggestion, limit the size of public high schools. Indiana has absurdly large public schools, and there is no good reason for it. This is a small state. The fact we have six classes of football is absurd. Ohio has double our population, but only one high school larger than 3k and only five large than 2500. Indiana has 19 schools larger than 2500. Schools that large cannot serve their population well. Cap public enrollment at 2500 and change football to four classes. Most of the p/p's have 500-1500 in enrollment, so they would almost exclusively end up in 2A and 3A, knocking each other out. Carmel, sorry, your three new high schools will knock each other out in sectionals.

6A-12.5% of sectionals were won by privates. 0% of regionals, semi-states, state were won by privates. 4A-12.5% of sectionals were won by privates. 0% of regionals, semi-states, state were won by privates. 3A-12.5% of sectionals were won by privates. 25% of regionals were won by privates, 50% of semi-states were won by privates, 100% of state championships were won by privates. 2A-25% of sectionals were won by privates. 50% of regionals were won by privates, 50% of semi-states were won by privates, 100% of state championships were won by privates. 1A-37.5% of sectionals were won by privates, 25% of regionals were won by privates, 50% of semi-states were won by privates 100% of state championships were won by privates. State wide: 12.5% of all sectionals won by privates, 16.7% of all regionals won by privates, 33.3% of all semi-states won by privates,, 50% of all state championships won by privates. Private Schools make up 7% of all football schools. These numbers would probably be a little higher if the officials in the North Posey/Mater Dei sectional semi-final could count to 12 on the final play.

I admit I googled if offseason was one word. 🤣 For many of us as fans, the offseason is now here, so might as well start a topic, right? This will be an offseason unlike any one prior. The whole landscape of the college game is changing drastically now. It's been mentioned before, the NCAA has done nothing with regard to the transfer portal. Gentlemen/Ladies, It looks as though we are at 68.5% towards this year's goal. I know that the last few years have been a strain on most due to inflation and other factors. Fr. Dudzinski's brother is also a priest! There's also a guy on that list, who is very modest and would hate to have his name mentioned, that spent LOTS of time ... 25 years, even before he had kids of his own ... with the youth program and was responsible for getting me involved all the way back in 2002. His efforts went way beyond the LCC program and helped with youth football across the area and touching several counties around here.

Ordinarily I would agree. But they don’t usually have 2 out of the first 5. But if lots of GMs feel that way, they could always trade down with that 4-5 pick.

So, the Bears have two picks out of the first 4 or 5 in the draft. And 2 second round picks as well. They are getting a very nice season out of the rookie tackle, Darnell Wright. I think Joe Alt would look pretty good in a Bears’ uniform. Last night Fields was really good … but he was pressured, if not running for his life, on nearly every dropback. Imagine what he can do with a competent offensive line.

This is one of Muda's favorite LCC football games. LCC played Klondike on October 11, 1960. LCC won the game 71-0 at West Lafayette's Leslie field. LCC 19-21-13-18 Klon 0-0-0-0 Klondike was playing its first full season of 11 man football.

Scholarships are only one year binding contracts. There's nothing that states a coach can't cut a player. Deion basically "cut" 75% of Colorado's roster last year.

Players entering the transfer portal dominating the headlines. It's absurd. Total fail for the NCAA to allow this to happen. Universities should now be able to eliminate a player on their own accord if said player doesn't perform up to expectations. Tit for tat.

5 Class conversation aside, I see the consolidation of small schools as an L for Indiana athletics, a lot of small schools have big traditions and history. Traditions and history would be erased by the stroke of a pen.

I am not sure they would destroy any team in the region, but FC is absolutely improving. Jayson West is a heck of a coach.

Nah....a confident adult man doesn't need to talk when he wins. The scoreboard does that for him. He understands he needs to teach his kids much more than X's and O's. Its understood that his actions mean more than his words and the need to be humble. Can't imagine Tony Dungy or one from his coaching tree acting in that fashion. You must have access to numbers I haven't seen. Everything I've been told by insiders at Warsaw is their enrollment is higher now than it was during the last enrollment count. I am expecting they will still be in 6A, but again in the bottom 3 or so.

Yes, many of the private school coaches are ring chasers. As are many of the public school coaches. That seems to be the point of this particular activity.

The incessant weeping and gnashing of teeth displayed by overzealous public school fans around tournament time makes it difficult for private school coaches to enjoy the GID like any normal fan. And that is a tragedy.

Nineteen students separate the smallest three schools...............Northrop, Warsaw, and Jeffersonville. The gap between Jeffersonville and Arsenal Tech is 23 students. Then comes Lafayette Jeff, but they'd have to lose about 75 students. Using these classifications, Snider bumps up, Northrop bumps down. Harrison, Valpo, and Chesterton are the most likely to shift in population enough to bet a bump up. Of course the forementioned schools would have to lose population. For now I think we just roll with Snider and Northrop switching spots.

I think you're right. I feel like I have been unfair with my opinion of private schools and the challenges their coaches face. I have never been one of the 17 coaches on the sideline of a school with 258 kids. So, what would you see as challenges that are private school coaches/teams face?

ok, that was comically bad, but thats the NFL in nutshell. Not enough GOOD OL and not enough GOOD QB play and you get an NFL weekend we just saw and culminated with that thrilling 12-10 victory by DA BEARS..... Now, lets reexamine Flus here: Something that I think has been pretty impressive, coaching large market, literally having 2 coaches fired by HR, one being a Coordinator , losing a capable enough but not good QB to injury and playing a D2 guy, and having quite possible the worst Offensive Line ever assembled, he has maintain his composure, he has stood up in front of those men at Halas Hall and has kept the ship moving in a COMPETITIVE direction. That defense plays so hard still and I think gettin Sweat has really helped obviously. Something to be said about all of that in my opinion.

You just agreed with him. You're saying that publics have more problems due to their clientele that they have to focus on that makes the extra-curriculars more difficult. Let alone the other factors.

We control the enrollment. All your theories are true. The board of the school actually meets before every school year and decides which athletes are getting free tuition, and final cuts are made to bring the total enrollment down to desired levels specifically for football classification. It’s usually the theatre nerds that don’t make the final cut. Their loss.

Another week - and more championships represented by the "best small school conference in the STATE!" I know things are cyclical in nature, but proud to have 3 PAC teams represented in the upcoming semi-states. A job well done by the Titans, Patriots, and Vikings. Hopefully the IHSAA will continue to spread out these teams so we don't all devour each other in the same sectionals. Best of luck on your preparations this week.
