1 Cornithians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord I'd say the big guy is the best recruiter money can't buy!!! 👍 There is an important reason I put "recurited" in quotations......My point is just that EVERY student, at ANY p/p, has made a decision to attend that school over the public school option due to any number of factors...the "system" I refer to, is the system of p/p options that all families have over their public school offering. The "system" = If I don't like my public option, I can go to p/p. Every kid at a p/p has opted for that choice in our educational "system". Some kids go to p/p's for faith, some for athletics, some for better academics...the point is, whether the kid plays football, soccer, or plays in the orchestra...or does nothing except academics....they were drawn to the p/p over their public offering for a reason. I'm actually taking the p/p side on this part of the debate, so I'm unsure why any p/p folks would get defensive😁

Agreed with the fact that lower enrollment 6A schools will likely never win a state championship. Look no further than the 5A north matchup of Merrillville and Warsaw. The Pirates dropped to 5A due to enrollment in 2022. In 3 years, they have won 3 sectionals and are in their 2nd straight Semi-State appearance. Granted, they did make it to Semi-State as a 6A squad 3 straight years from 2019-2021, but each of those seasons were ended in convincing fashion by Carmel and Westfield. Meanwhile, the Tigers are in their 1st season as a 5A squad since the IHSAA went to 6 classifications, and they just won their 2nd-ever Sectional Championship and 1st ever Regional Championship. As exciting as this postseason run has been for Warsaw, I can't help but think while a Sectional Championship in 6A COULD have happened this season, I have extreme doubts that they would have had any chance in defeating Crown Point in a regional matchup. You could take it a step further and look at each of those school's Regional opponents. Valparaiso was in 6A until 2018, and only won 1 sectional title and 1 regional title. Since bumping to 5A in 2019, they have won 6 straight sectionals, 3 regionals, and 2 state championship appearances, winning 1. Lafayette Jefferson has bounced back and forth between 6A/5A, and most years in 6A were defeated by much larger schools Carmel, FW Carroll, and Crown Point. In their 5A seasons, 3 straight years were ended at the hands of an ever growing Westfield that is now the 18th largest school in the state. It is a small sample size, but all four schools have seen immediate postseason success moving to a lower class that does not include the mega-schools of 2,500+ enrollment

Counter point: That loss to the MAC team could of been the adversity/situation needed to propel the IRISH to the season they are having......

Saw the Rocket and the great 1988 ND national championship team beat Navy at the old Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.

LaPorte has been playing football for over 100 years. Dave Sharpe was there for 4 of them. His Power T offense produced 3 of the top 5 offenses in school history. The other 2 were the 2014 state runner up team and the 2006 regional championship team. In his last 3 years at Noblesville his offenses averaged 350 yards per game and 25 points per game (via MaxPreps). So can we quit "blaming" it on the offense? There's a lot more to winning football games!

Oh, no doubt! I was told by one of their commissioners that none of the local Indy stations cared to carry the games. This was about 10 years or so ago, and I just laughed in his face! I guess there's enough fans that will buy into what they're selling. PPV for high school championship sports just sounds wrong to this old fan.

The real entertainment is going to be watching Deion try to manipulate it so that he controls where Shedeur goes. The NFL Draft doesn’t generally work that way. And not even Jerry Jones is stupid enough to hire Deion to be an NFL head coach.

Wonder how long it will take College Football to get to the Hoops math problem when it comes to figuring out their tournament. If NCAA Football would weight games vs quality opponents like Hoops does then we don't see Alabama vs Mercer in freaking November.....and list goes on there SEC...... I think Hoops, you get penalized for instance if you are Purdue and schedule a Quad 4 game and win. Like Kansas St is playing Mississippi Valley State University whom may just be the WORST collection of college hoopers yet again this year and yes I took KSU and the points which I think are 42.5. KSU will get penalized come March for seeding purposes. Granted, 64/68 teams vs 12 is a difference, I get, but metrics still make sense like you said @temptation lets not penalize teams for playing quality opponents in September or November...... AND FOR GOOD GRIEF...SEC..... STOP WITH THE MADNESS IN NOVEMBER

At the regional level crews can use a Alternate that does not have a flag or whistle. He can go under on a goal post on kicks but that is all. If someone where to get hurt during the game I think he could fill in but I'm not sure on that part?

He has said he wants to give the NFL a shot, and more power to him. But I have a feeling this young man is going to accomplish much, much bigger things in life than playing a few more years of football. Mark my words, he is really going places.

Think “workers’ compensation” benefits for injuries arising out of and in the course of employment. But I do think unionization is the big fear. And it would be inevitable. Think about a wage scale for college athletes, and how hard it would be to formulate that.

The entire sideline was thin. There were not many on that roster, but hopefully that success of winning the 1st sectional will breed more success and kids wanting to play football.

I have not data to back any of this up, just gut reaction on my part, but it seems like the balancing of the schedules is playing too large of role. The Conferences are so big and I see some teams in the Top 15 that have benefitted to date from light conference schedules (IU, Penn State, Texas A&M, SMU, Miami, Ohio State) and others who have not (Bama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee). Maybe the SOS say otherwise, but looking at schdules it seems some of have had easier Conference slates.

Temp's comment, while rough, also seems fair given history. There are several articles about the worst loss experienced by a team winning the national title. Some tough losses....but none that I could read included a loss to a mid-major.

Agree. Hell, Cathedral will never win 6A. What'st that tell ya? Jeffersonville, Northrop, Portage, Harrison, Columbus North, and Zionsville are nothing more than sparring partners.

Venues with more parking, more seating, better concessions, and larger restrooms. Saturday afternoons usually provide better weather. People don't have to leave work early on Friday to drive a distance to the game nor do they have to drive in the dark. Players get the opportunity of playing in a larger venue. It makes no sense why this is not being considered. I became a big fan of this idea after standing five deep in the end zone several years ago at East Noble. The venues could also include small colleges as well as large high schools.

I hit submit too early. This game will undoubtedly be Crown Point’s toughest challenge of the season to date. Westfield is a great, well-rounded, and disciplined team. Both sides will need to bring their absolute best, as it’s shaping up to be a matchup where preparation and execution will make all the difference.

I re-read it a couple of times. I still have the same conclusion. Again I will reiterate the style of offense isn't the issue. Center Grove Bantam and Center Grove IEFA have proven that the Wing T not unlike the Power T can be highly successful at the Youth, Middle School, and High School level. The system has to be bought into by the coaches and taught to the kids. I also reiterate that they both lend themselves easily to no matter what the skill type is for your players. It is proven there are clinics on it.

My guess if the Bears had tried to get it closer, there’d be a holding penalty.

And they said a kid from a 1A school couldn’t make it in the big time. No one has played more games at Notre Dame.

Does Cathedral do some recruiting? Probably, but it's not like Nick Saban going into someone's house and saying "you should play for me," and really, it's fully within the rules. The "recruiting" is more having coaches/friends/alumni at independent training academies or youth travel programs like Team Indiana (not saying Cathedral does that, but it is how some of the "recruiting" can be done) and building relationships with younger athletes. It's also parents reaching out to other parents (honestly, most of the "recruiting" is done by parents, not by coaches), or an alumnus talking to a work colleague and encouraging them to check out the school. It's also relationships with the local parochial grade schools (but even then, you're competing with Chatard, Brebeuf and Roncalli for those kids). In baseball, every time we play Cathedral, half the plates in the parking lot are from Hamilton County. They have a *very* strong connection with some of the big travel baseball programs in the state (and that's not necessarily coaches, but alumni and parents), and people who are willing to fork over thousands to put their kid on a high-level travel baseball team are not going to bat an eyelash at forking over tuition money for a private school. Obviously, a different sport, but the point holds. Their baseball coaches aren't going out and "recruiting," but the network of alumni, parents, et al, do talk to each other. But mostly, the program recruits itself. People see success and they want to be a part of it. Parents, rightly or wrongly, believe their kids have a better shot at being noticed by college coaches if they play on a team that makes deep tournament runs, and also, that indicates there's some pretty good coaching taking place. And, honestly, they may feel their kid will have a better high school experience being on a good team. Would you rather be playing for a team that has a shot at playing on Thanksgiving weekend, or a team that goes 3-7? And, honestly, that's not just uncommon to private/parochial schools. Successful public school programs also tend to have a number of good players move in and don't do any "recruiting." Families come because they see success on the field, they see players getting college offers and they want to be a part of it. Some families move into the community, but with open enrollment, you don't have to in most school districts. But with 30+ high schools within a half-hour's drive of downtown Indy, it's not difficult to find a situation to your liking, call a Realtor and find a new home.

Well, there was the first month of the season where there was an OL coach who left abruptly after a month......perhaps, something to do with a Purdue Union Hotel that may or may not have been destroyed by overzealous youthful coaches without families......let you draw your own conclusions There is the fact that everyone was getting money they haven't had before and being under the age of 40......let that also be something you can wrap your brain around on what kind of issues that may have caused.

The more I read the JH post it makes my brain hurt. Great high school programs have a great youth program where the coaches buy into vison and philosophy like CG. It sounds like the Noblesville youth coaches know what's best and would rather do that then help build the success.

This is 100% correct. A lot of people seem to ignore CG when it comes to this topic.

Like a youth coach who thinks they know everything. At least that seems what it is in that post. I will state very clearly: One of the BEST programs in the State of Indiana is Center Grove. Their youth program is also one of the best in the State. They run the Wing T in their Bantham League and with their Junior Trojans. You have seen them at the High School level run a little more spread because they have been blessed with some QB's that bring a skill set for that. Their bread and butter has been the Wing T and I would bet every player on their varsity roster can line up in the Wing T and run plays out of it in their sleep because they have been doing it since the 2nd grade. The youth coaches have to buy into it. The Power T as well as the Wing T can lend itself to youth football because you don't need giant lines to run it. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade should be about teaching it after that they should know it well.

It reads like a dad who is the coach and wants his kid to get the majority of the touches on offense. I feel like most youth teams that aren't given direction from the head coach tend to run the T or some variation of single wing or wing t so how is there constraint?

I think everyone who coaches knows this type of guy. The youth coach that complains the entire time on Friday nights. The guy who played a little bit in high school but doesn't really know football. If this is the type of coach their youth program consists of, no wonder he wasn't successful. I love his line; we are forced to run an offense for which the kids aren't suited. It's the T. You're blocking defenders and running the football. If you don't have kids who can block and run the ball, what offense are you suited for? Noblesville hasn't had a winning season in 20 years. It's not all Dave Sharpe's fault.

Parents want their kids running 4/5-wide spread because that's what they see on Saturdays and it's "more exciting." I remember Mt. Vernon running the Wing-T in the Doug Peacock days, winning a *ton*, and parents (especially the parents of QBs and WRs) nonstop kvetching from the stands because they "didn't pass enough." Same thing with another Wing-T program in the area in my newspaper days. So, they went spread one year and went 1-9 ... then went back to the Wing-T and started winning games again. Kokomo - same thing. Ran the double-wing "phone booth" offense with Brett Colby. He retires, they go to a spread attack, get pummeled for a few years, hire Austin Colby and go back to the "phone booth" and they're a state contender again. Bottom-line, old-school football does work - and can even mask a talent deficiency - but you have to have people committed to it. But it's not flashy, and parents feel like their kids are losing "college opportunities" if they're not running a "modern" offense. It's also hella hard to win in the HCC, which is probably the deepest conference in the state right now. You might be the 10th best team in the state and go 3-6.
