A battle of two of the best small public school programs will face off for 2A!!! bragging rights.

For the first time since Class 6A was formed, the HCC will be guaranteed of a championship, as Brownsburg took care of Center Grove, and Crown Point was no match for Westfield. This will be a rematch of an HCC game at Brownsburg, where Brownsburg won 17-13 on a kickoff return for a TD, and Westfield's QB Carsen Melvin did not play after getting injured in the third quarter. Should be one great game!

Wow! 12 high stakes games, and I haven’t seen a single complaint about officiating. Must have been a relatively quiet night for the teams in the stripes.

What do you consider Metro Indy? Brownsburg is a 10 minute drive on a good day from Ben Davis, and Westfield is probably 25 away. They literally fight with Carmel all the time about what land to annex or call theirs. If Carmel is a Metro Indy team and Center Grove is a Metro Indy team, then Westfield and Brownsburg are Metro Indy teams.

That previous bump up to 3A coincided with the beginning expansion of the Indiana School Choice (voucher) program, so their enrollment increased at that time. It was coincidental. (The size of the football team actually slightly decreased at that time.)

Fort Wayne Community Schools has had "open enrollment" for decades. So, in Fort Wayne, "the publics" DEFINITELY recruit. (As I personally heard a previous principal at FW Snider explicitly state.)

Not a Luers fan, but HH is in for a fight with the Knights. Lots of state titles and every year people look at their record and underestimate them. Just don’t get it. Luers plays a heavy 5A and 6A schedule, pretty sure they don’t play any team below 3A all year. I have seen them finish 3-6 and 4-5 during the regular season and steamroll thru the playoffs. Whatever HH has, Luers has seen it from much better teams than HH with more speed. Hope HH underestimates Luers as that will guarantee a red ribbon for HH

I think the biggest issue for North Judson will be McDaniel's ankle. Definitely with punting, kick returning and in the secondary and not being able to run the option with him could make it difficult. I know providence pushed Lutheran to the brink last year but a lot of those guys graduated this past may but they still have a few of those guys back. It seems they use a variety of weapons running and receiving. South Putnam had a lot of good athletes all over the field and big/strong up front and nearly came back after being down 19. I think Providence has faced the tougher road (South Putnam and Milan) but Kole Wilcox and Brock Benson are more than capable of carrying the load if McDaniel still cant do much. It should be a good game. Really tough to debate 1A this year with the usual suspects Central Catholic, Adams Central, Indianapolis Lutheran and Linton Stockton all in 2A now.

I think I can clear up the confusion. The official in question is indeed a 6th member of the crew as they’ve had some ongoing health issues the last couple of seasons. I myself have worked with them as well. The official was paid $50 bucks for the game by game administration, no mileage, as well as each crew member chipping in a few bucks to have him there in the event he’s needed. Which given some of the health issues is ALWAYS a possibility. To earn his keep, he charts penalties for them. Good crew, multiple state finals.

Indy teams that compete in their own weight class are just as human as anyone else. Eleven of the top twelve enrollment schools are from the Indy Metro, and that includes six HCC programs. The top three enrollment schools..........drumroll.............27 state titles, lol. The rest of 6A are just sparing partners for the Indy schools to stock their trophy cases. Trolling.

If the part about Luers having played the far and away better competition in the regular season is true, it would be impressive if they actually beat those teams that actually ended up with a winning record. Luers did not beat a team that ended the season with a winning record until they beat Mississinewa in the sectional championship game. Maybe you are impressed with the teams they lost to in the regular season?

As I said before, and got THROUGHLY "roasted" by Da Region guys..... Unless and until the Northern schools in 6A start playing beyond US24 on a regular basis and getting a feel for this type of play, the (true) North is just playing for the red ribbon in 6A. I stand by that; To paraphrase a statement by Barry Goldwater in 64 (ugh).... "In Your Heart you know I'm Right".

From what I heard, the ones who got paid were paid separately by the home school and not reimbursed by IHSAA. Not sure if that's 100% true, but it may be why there are inconsistent answers if it is true.

It's sad that it's the truth. I think what it's going to take is having some of these bigger northern schools forming a conference. State Line Northwest: Lafayette Jeff Harrison McCutcheon Crown Point Merrillville Valpo or Michigan City or Lake Central or whoever State Line Northeast: Penn Elkhart Warsaw Carroll Homestead Snider 5 conference, 1 conference crossover that rotates on a 6 year home and away basis, week 9 is 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, 6v6, 2 non-con for going to Chicago, Indy, Michigan or Northrop. Still I don't know if it has enough juice. Also please point out if I left anyone obvious out.

I'll be surprised if Heritage Hills keeps this within 3 scores. Luers has played far and away better competition in the regular season. They will have way too much speed and their Dline will out-physical Heritage Hills Oline. Luers 31-6.

Luers is like that boxer ther doesn't have the best power, the best speed, the best size or the best technique. They take you into deep waters and find a way ton win. Not a can, a good pro boxer. A title contender perhaps. Heritage Hills is Mike Tyson before prison. Inshallah a team that lost to Southside is playing for a state title. As always, go Archers. And Luers. I just think the outcome feels kinda inevitable in this game.

No I agree with you. Private schools especially recruit every student that walks in their doors or else the doors won't stay open. I was just stating for some Public School wasn't even in the thought process from the day they were born. There also are a whole multitude of reasons parents look to send their kids to P/P school including: Academics, student teacher ratio, religious classes, and yes even extra curriculars. Extra Curriculars don't have to be strictly Football, Basketball, Baseball. It can also be Band, Debate, Model UN, Chess Club. there is a lot. For example the largest P/P in Indiana Cathedral has 1,172 students. The sport with the largest roster would be Football and they probably roster 103 grades 10-12 and 60 to 70 Freshman (which is a big roster). However that is about 1,000 students that don't play football at all so it's not all football it is a lot of other things. Sometimes things only get looked at in a vaccum with football, there is more than football at P/P and Public schools.

The play with 44 sec. left in the 4th was an offensive holding foul on Brownsburg. It was the next play that was the horse collar tackle. And regardless of how livid someone was, it was the correct call. This was not a “typical” horse collar tackle. That usually comes when the tackler is behind the runner, grabs the horse collar, and allows his weight to pull down the runner backwards. But it’s clear the elements of a horse collar tackle are there. It’s a foul to “Grab the inside back or side collar, or the name plate area (directly below the back collar), of either the shoulder pads or the jersey of the runner and subsequently pull (backward or sideward) that opponent to the ground (Horse-collar), even if possession is lost. The horse-collar foul is enforced as a live-ball foul.” The video shows the defender grabbing the back of the jersey collar and pulling the QB backward to the ground. Fits the definition of a horse collar tackle. There was a glitch, but it played no part in the outcome. The horse collar foul occurred with 0:30 on the clock. After enforcement, the referee properly started the clock on the ready for play signal. LN then encroached, which is a dead ball foul, so the clock stopped at 0:28 to enforce that penalty. After enforcement, the R wound the clock, but then shut it down immediately when they realized they hadn’t asked the Brownsburg coach if he wanted to elect to start the clock on the snap. That election is available to the offended team inside the last 2 minutes of each half if the opponent fouls with the game clock running. Brownsburg elected to have the clock start on the snap, so they reset the game clock to 0:28, where it was at the time of the encroachment foul. It should have been reset to 0:30, since that was the time on the clock at the conclusion of the play with the horse collar foul. So, Brownsburg was deprived of 2 seconds which, given the outcome, were meaningless. Pretty good crew on this game with a state championship veteran Referee.

I am a big proponent of the Success Factor. However, I would make this one change -- a team CANNOT be bumped up unless they won a State Championship-- you can call it the "Adams Central asterisk". Adams Central football got bumped from 1A to 2A with runner-up finishes in '22 & '23 ('21 too). In my opinion, if you don't have the BIGGEST trophy in your school trophy case, then you should still be competing in your enrollment class. This could be accomplished by simply changing the Bump-Up criteria to 7 points while changing the points earned for being a State Champion from 4 to 5. So being State Champ(5) + Regional Champ(2) = 7 points (Bumped Up). But Runner-up(3) + Runner-up = 6 points (NOT Bumped Up). Fun fact: As the SF currently works, Adams Central football could conceivably get Bumped Up into 3A for the '26 & '27 seasons if they become 2A State Runner-ups in both '24 & '25. In other words, they could be Runner-up for 5 straight seasons (0 state titles) & find themselves playing 2 classes above enrollment.

This is the proverbial elephant in the room that is all too often brushed aside or simply ignored as it does not fit the desired narrative that only P/Ps recruit.

It was the public schools that wanted the p/p's to be in their own tournament after LCC won state 4 years in a row from 2009-2012. Everything was fine after the public sweep in 2005, and in 2013 there was a class 6A and a crazy success factor. Danny Anthrop had a lot to do with LCC winning state those 4 years. Please pray for the Anthrop family! Jade, Dru, Danny, and Jackson Anthrop's aunt, Mary Anthrop, passed away on November 9th. Mary Anthrop was a history teacher at LCC for 40 years.
