  2. I am the former "rebel03".....still come in and around these parts 3-4 times a week. I graduated in '04 and played on the '02 and '03 championship teams. I was involved in the heyday of the "Horde"! Man, those were great days...... Couple thoughts On the name change- I am not "happy" about it, but we also live in a completely world. It was not uncommon in the 90s for people to have the confederate flag at school flying from their cars. That was nipped in the butt in the 90s, and was outlawed. Admin said if that were to happen anymore, the student would be expelled, no questions asked. I believe one student fell to this punishment, and this was no longer a problem. As you have read, the term came from a famous pope who rebelled against church leaders for the greater good. But, again, we are in different times now. I have requested to be a part of the alumni side to be on the committee to find a new nickname. You have to take the good out of the bad and move on. Current state of the program- My brother played quarterback in the early 90s for the Rebels and made the leap to go coach with Coach Rodenburg. TW is back in the saddle doing some part time coaching with the offensive line. Brian Lauck is back, one of the best Rebel alums turned coach in the history of the school. Numerous other alumni have come out of the woodwork to follow Rodenburg, including Jason Werner as well as others. Rodenburg literally did not bring one person with him to be an assistant. His background in Cincy Catholic football knew that someone that is a great leader will get the pack to follow him, and it is clear that the pack came to help him out. This is the first time I have been excited to watch them play in a long time. The iron fist is back, and ready to get into gear. The kids are buying in, and have a solid nucleus back. If anyone can do this, it will be Coach Rodenburg and the alumni there to help him out. It is an exciting time, and I am happy for the program as a whole. There is a long way to go to get back to where they were, and maybe they never will, but I have hope that the right people are at least in place to get them where they need to go. My son is a 4th grader at Saint Barnabas, I want him to grow up on Friday nights before high school watching what I was able to watch in the 90s. It is a great thing when done right!

  5. We don't do that very often. I have heard of crews who take that approach, but I don't feel it's very effective. You don't get to know ADs and coaches and get multiple votes because you have worked a lot of different schools over the years. The staff of the school where you worked one time 5 years prior may not even be there any longer. And they are much less likely to remember if you if you only worked there once. The crews who often advance are those who work other sports or coach other sports or played college sports in Indiana with a lot of people who are not athletics directors or coaches and it usually takes a combination of all those things. The crews who commonly advance far because of a broader vote number are getting 80-100 votes or more while most crews only get 20-30. You don't get 80-100 votes because you mix up your schedule every year. As for working with a new AD/school, I personally wouldn't worry about it any more this year than any other year. If it was a new school to us I would be more thorough in my discussion about our locker room situation, assistance to and from the field, assistance with our individual water situations, their plans for ball boy management. I expect most will be fine and if they aren't I would address it with them before we ever set foot on the school grounds. Most do a pretty good job, and I expect they will continue to do a good job.

  9. There are going to be positive cases, that was expected, as IHSAA Commish stated here, and what most people understand. Taking it 2 weeks at a time as we approach August.

  20. I am not suggesting that at all. I merely suggest that, whether the cliche is true or not, people often have a hard time believing what they do not personally see. Data is great, science is wonderful, but after a while, if you are not personally effected by something the the data and science claims is dangerous, that data and science simply becomes numbers on a piece of paper. It begins to lack meaning.

  21. Looks like Roncalli's leadership has fallen into the trap of thinking twitter is representative of the general population. It isn't.

  22. It's federal law, and you must do it. I wonder who is in charge of the EL program over there making sure that it is done. I messed up my facts yesterday. We had 131 flu deaths in Indiana during "flu season" . Sorry. https://www.in.gov/isdh/files/Weekly Influenza Report-Week 20-2019-2020.pdf

  25. As much as I wish it weren’t the case for my beloved Tigers, it is the case. I think we’ll do well to be above .500 this year. I think we have some good young talent in grades 9 and 10. But...well, they’re in grades 9 and 10. The senior class is small and one of the weaker classes in recent times. I don’t know who all Mooresville has back, but they were pretty dang good. So my early money is on them.

  26. Just saw on the morning news that the reason Roncalli is dropping it's nickname, "Rebels" is due to someone is claiming it is tied to the Confederacy in the civil war. Unless I am mistaken, rebels was the term applied to the colonists during the revolutionary by the British. So do we try to cover up the revolution and pretend like it never happened too? This is another fine example of how common sense is all but dead in our society today. What's next? I"m guessing Patriots will be the next banned nickname. What about animal activists demanding schools/programs dropping the animal nicknames because someone will claim it's offensive to dogs and cats everywhere??? I hope Roncalli sticks to their guns and keeps their nickname. Maybe they have other issues to work on, but their nickname is NOT one of them.

  28. Many here have described 6-man as being like "basketball on a football field". Scores, especially the winning team's in mis-matched games, gets crazy high. There is a 45-point mercy rule that gets used a fair bit. Think of the St Louis Rams "greatest show on turf"-style offense, and you have a high school version of that in the 6-man game if your offense is clicking on all cylinders. Put two well matched 6-man teams together, it's going to be a very fun and interesting evening if you like huge offensive numbers. Good offenses score basically every time they get the ball. Some teams play better D than others, but it's more often than not an offensive showdown. Oh, and the field is slightly smaller. I'm not against 6-man. Better that than nothing. If the kids want to play, I say more power to them. There is blocking, tackling, running, passing just like 11-man, but as told to me by a 6-man parent "it ain't quite the same game". Doesn't mean it's inferior, just different. Those kids train just as hard and long as 11-man players and are asked to do just as much. I would rather see schools playing 8-man or co-oping than not playing at all.

  32. Mater Dei lost their starting QB and both RBs. It was a weird year offensively as MD had 3 times the number of rush attempts and 2x as many rushing yards as passing. I can’t think of another time in the Coach Goebel era where that was the case. From what I have seen at the lower levels, I expect them to have plenty of skill players and get back to slinging it around.

  34. How so? If students can make protest one thing why not another? We have @DannEllenwood spouting off about "ALL LIVES MATTER" and that is okay? It's funny how you allow people to spout off about how the virus will disappear on 11/4 like it is a made up thing. People like @DannEllenwood and @Temptation should be the ones who feel bad. Their hypocrisy is astounding. They have totally politicized it and yet I get called out for it. My wife is going to work today on a COVID floor that is almost full. Less than four weeks ago there was barely any patients there. This isn't fake but people on this forum are claiming that it is. It's real and getting worse. @Coach Nowlin call them out and ask them to stop! We have allowed them to give their false narrative but I can't ask the people what they think about another matter?
