When Tom Landry passed away, he was greeted at the Pearly gates by Saint Peter. St. Pete said "Welcome Coach Landry and job well done. We have a surprise waiting for you that we think you'll be very pleased with." He led Coach Landry through the gates and down a golden road. Coach Landry's curiosity and excitement began to grow as he saw that they were walking towards a large stadium. As they came closer, Coach Landry could hear the sound of loud cheers. He looked at St. Peter who simply smiled back at him. When they arrived at the stadium St. Peter led him through the tunnel and onto the playing field. The stadium erupted with cheers when the crowd of angels saw him walking toward the sideline. St. Peter turned to him and said with a wink "Welcome to the game Coach Landry. We've been patiently awaiting this day." Coach Landry looked across the field and saw his old friend and rival Vince Lombardi waiving to him, ready to do battle once more. As St. Peter turned to walk away Coach Landry stopped him and said "Saint Peter, this is all wonderful. I can't wait to start the game, but before you go I have to ask you a question. I see there is a strange tower like contraption located behind each endzone. What are those?" Saint Peter replyed "those are endzone cameras. They film the game from an elevated endzone perspective for you to use for evaluation and teaching purposes. It's a fascinating tool that has evolved for coaches. Your camera is located in the South endzone. It's a Sideline Power 20 foot High Definition model with a 19 inch monitor. It's a really good model. I think you'll be very pleased with the results." Saint Peter could see that Coach Landry had a puzzled look on his face so he asked him what was wrong. Coach Landry replied "Well Saint Peter, I certainly don't mean to complain, but I can see that Coach Lombardi has a much taller endzone camera in the North endzone. Why does he get to use that one and what is the difference between it and my model?" Saint Peter smiled with a look of amusement washing over his expression. He nodded and said "Oh, that's a Hi-Pod X31 endzone camera. It has a 31 foot telescoping tower, High Definition camera, 11 inch High Definition monitor, and premium rain gear. Also, that's not Coach Lombardi's endzone camera. That's God's endzone camera".9 points

to get a fair representation of ranking the 2 divisions then you cannot count those games as true conference games. Look at it this way: The conference ADs got together, I am sure Principals were involved too, and said hey, its a pain to find non conference games, so instead of trying to find 4 non conference games, lets each help each other out and 2 teams will play these games and saves 2 other dates for other non conference games. It would NOT be fun if the Hoosier went to a SAC Model of all 9 games being CONFERENCE Games. For instance, if that was the case, RCHS would then lose out on playing our county Rival, Kankakee Valley week 1, lose the "Cracker Barrel" game that week as well and the travelling trophy would have been retired. Nobody in our community nor KV community would want that. Same with playing North Newton. Our two schools played since the 60s and even before when it was just Morroco High School. Only 20 minute trip and game the locals on both sides love to play. WL would not been able to start a series with Lafayette Jeff LCC would not been able to play Guerin for the Bishop's Cannon Benton Central and Seeger long time series would of come to a halt. Just some examples.4 points

@Coach Nowlin can we increase the cap for likes and hahas. I keep hitting my cap on a daily basis and frankly I can’t get enough of endzone cameras and stories around them. Real shame I can’t show as much appreciation as I want to lol3 points

One of my coolest travel stories ever didnt even start with a high school game in mind. A buddy and I went to Bloomington for the Bucket game. It was about half time and Purdue was killing IU and I turned to my buddy and said hey Roncolli is playing Jasper for a semi-state title tonight in Jasper wanna leave here and head to the game? Him being as crazy as I am said sure. Neither of us had ever been to Jasper so I had to look it up on my phone. We hopped in the truck and started down south to go watch the game. I put in Jasper High School in my phone thinking the stadium was at the school. Well we get there and the school looks deserted. A guys just happened to be walking his dog and told us the field was actually near the center of town. We got there the visiting stands and home stands were packed so we ended up standing I the end zone. I looked over and low and behold Jimmy "Mad Dog" was standing right next to me chewing on a cigar. Didnt get back into indy till almost 1 in the morning. Best road trip for football I've ever been on. I love traveling3 points

The reason Doug said that was that after he explained their plans to me, I asked him: “if somebody runs it back for a TD, do you want to have the ceremony then, or wait until after the try?” He started laughing ... until he realized I was serious. Turned out, I was also prophetic. 😉2 points

Very in depth biography. I don’t think anyone will ever accuse Maraniss of falling too much in love with his subject, though.2 points

You think the West Cannon Coyotes ever road on a yellow bus ... Doubt it! This is proof that they charter planes in Texas! On another note ... I had a roommate in college that moved from Thermopolis, WY to Crown Point. She played basketball and their first road trip was to Merriville. When she showed up to get on the bus with a pillow, she became a target for ridicule. By that time, she laughed at the situation, but she said that the shortest trip they ever took in Wyoming was an hour and a half plus. Sometimes I think that we are just looking for things to complain about. Some people are not satisfied unless they are unhappy.2 points

That's what I tell my players when we have away games ... the one thing I love more than winning a game on home turf is taking one on someone else's home turf. Makes the ride home a lot shorter.2 points

There are few things more satisfying than traveling to someone else’s place, smacking the snot out of them, and then reveling in the victory on a long bus ride home.2 points

Honestly, I think most of the complaints come when you drive by 2-3 schools of the same size on your way to a sectional match up.2 points

PAC Boys Basketball 2019-20 Forest Park The Rangers return 3 starters from last year including one PAC honorable mention selection. Drew Howard- Drew was selected PAC HM and averaged 8.5 ppg. Issac Uebelhor- Issac averaged 10.8 ppg in limited action due to injury but the Rangers were a much better team in the games he played. Simon Jacob- Simon averaged 9.3 ppg. Before the Hopf transfer I figured Forest Park would challenge Southridge as the top contender to try and unseat 2 time defending PAC champion Heritage Hills. Gibson Southern I couldn’t fine any stats for Gibson Southern but the return 3 starters Taylor Johanningsmeier, Aidan Neel and Adam May. Heritage Hills The Patriots return four starters including 3 All PAC selections. Murray Becher- Murray is a 4th year starter and averaged 20.4 ppg. Simon Scherry- Simon is a 3rd year starter and averaged 15.6 ppg. Blake Sisley- Blake is a 3rd year starter and averaged 12.8 ppg. Cole Sigler- Cole is a 2nd year starter and averaged 7.6 ppg. North Posey The Vikings return two starters including 1 ALL PAC and 1 PAC HM selection. Joshiah Ricketts- Joshiah was selected ALL PAC and averaged 22.7 ppg. Jonathan Ricketts- Jonathon was PAC honorable mention and averaged 9.4 ppg. Viking could be a dangerous opponent if they can find other scoring options to go with the inside outside combo of the Rickett brothers. Pike Central The Chargers return 2 starters Ethan Scott 9.0 ppg & Ethan Gorby 3.3 ppg. Southridge The Raiders return 2 starters including one All PAC selection. Colson Montgomery- Colson was selected All PAC and averaged 21.1 ppg. Garrett Voegerl- Garrett averaged 3.7 ppg. Montgomery is one of the top players in the state and Vorgerl and Gasser are unbelievable athletes the question is what do they have after that ? South Spencer The Rebels return 4 starters including 1 All PAC selection and 1 PAC HM selection. Couldn’t find stats for the Rebels but the returning starters are All PAC Jace Kelly HM PAC Kobe Bartlett, Matthew Smith and Michael Donoho. South Spencer guard play should be as good as any team in the PAC and if they can find solid post play they could contend for the title. Tecumseh Lost 5 starters to graduation. Tell City Lost 5 starters to graduation. Tell City did have a 18-3 JV team and was the only JV team to beat Heritage Hills JV who also went 18-3. HH beat TC 43-27 in the Forest Park JV Tournament then had to play them again a few weeks later then the Marksmen won the rematch 41-22. This is composed of memory and stats that I could find online .I cant remember much about the returning starters for Gibson Southern & Pike Central or the backups for Tecumseh to add any thought about them.1 point

I remember last years 2A state finals game and beleive the QB Dylan BRAGG is back this year? Or is he playing college ball somewhere? He had one heck of state final game with 3 TD’s.1 point

100% agreed! I’m ready to see how we perform as a team. CG is one of the top 5 schools that I hold the most respect for outside of CE.. I’ve seen CG and the constant success they have and have always admired how they have been able to produce every year. The same for New Pal, after hearing some of Coach Ralph’s post game talks.. that guy gets it. All I hope for is a good clean and injury free game for both schools tomorrow, and that fans get to see both teams perform at a high level.1 point

That's really a shame! It sounds like the same scenario as Cathedral's Markese Stepp. Those hamstrings just seem to take awhile to heal for some.. Hopefully he'll be back for an injury free senior year.1 point

I answered this question once. I would suggest putting that government school IT degree to good use and determine why the answer didn't show up on your screen. Or you could just go home instead. And see someone about your vision.1 point

ESPN kinda owns the SEC. They are the same way with the Patriots. Bias, bias, bias. Got sick of it and stopped watching ESPN. The Patriots could be 0 for the season and they would STILL get al of the storylines on ESPN newcasts. Made me sick. I think the Big 12 lost their shot in the final four when Oklahoma lost. You could be right calling Baylor but they need a lot of help. Still several games left and the conference title games. Thinking Clemson is a lock by default. It is them and everyone else in the ACC. So they will stay in the top four. I don't think they will be the top team in the final four though. Now I have to keep an eye on two teams: Minnesota AND Baylor.1 point

My understanding is that the Hoosier Conference is split East/West. The last week of the year the #1 East plays the #1 West team. It just so happens that the teams scheduled a "non-conference" game against a team from the other. I'm sure @Coach Nowlin can explain better. ^^^ Like I said he would! LOL ^^^^1 point

Hey we have one of those 2!!! haha I think we have 9, 3 way players!!! I am sure BG is similar. Can't take those breaks on Special teams, it will get ya!!1 point

Speaking of Boone Grove, I wonder if @Coach Nowlin remembers the first football game Boone Grove ever played. I refereed that game and it was against Rensselaer’s JV.1 point

I won't get into the one coach is better than the other. Coach Hart and Coach Bless are both outstanding coaches. Coach Bless is part of a coaching family too. His father Bill is University of Indianapolis's all time wins. His 2 brothers are also coaches at Columbus North and Bloomington North. Here is a great article about him: https://fox59.com/2017/09/11/avons-bless-continues-football-coaching-legacy/ At any rate both great coaches.1 point

Our kicker is solid, but it is really hard to compare him to someone like Andrean's kicker. Our kicker actually starts on defense and offense as well.1 point

Avon paid a visit to the Reitz Bowl in 2005 and beat a very good Hart coached team 42-35 in the 5A regional. Best stadium in the Hoosier state!1 point

I think Linton would be much better prepared for this game with Mater Dei if they had played the mighty Parke Heritage Wolfs. Sometimes you can gain from losing in a regular season game if it better prepares you for the playoffs. There would be no shame in the Miners losing to the Wolfs.1 point

Interesting. Perspective is everything. I'm seeing 4 teams in 32 at 1-0 in postseason play. It's pretty simple. Who wants it more?1 point

You’re welcome to your opinion. I’ll keep my opinion, thanks! Again, for the record, IMO EM was the best team in state classes 1-4 2017 and in 2018 along with WL.1 point

North Newton is much better week 11 than week 2, that is for sure. I know I am biased, but I would take the Bombers against anyone in 2a, but I have also said that same thing since 2003. 1999 ( can't forget my film engineering years) NN BG Andrean All have very good players who pose problems for each teams. That is the truth. So many factors go into each week. Survive and advance, name of the game.1 point

The IHSAA created the 6th class to promote competitive balance. Unfortunately it split one class in half thus making one less tourney game possible causing the subsequent bye. Class 5A and 6A not playing a week 10 has ZERO bearing on class 1A-4A. It's not like a 5A school has a week off to prepare for a 4A school in the playoffs, each team is at the same advantage/disadvantage. This is a non-issue.1 point

Bombers welcomed back QB Eli Hickman last week as he can be seen all over the Hudl/Maxpreps Game Recap. Great to see him back as he has been pesky waiting this injury out https://www.maxpreps.com/games/10-25-2019/football-fall-19/rensselaer-central-vs-wheeler.htm?c=A43mfIagn0uEyULYbcGJeA#tab=recap&schoolid=1 point

There are 2 things you should take from this....... 1. Center Grove, as is, is still one of 7 or 8 teams that can run the table. 2. They are going to be VERY hard to beat next year with all the returning contributors plus Steele.1 point
