  1. I usually try not to "fall into the trap", but I have some time. We started our Mater Dei experience in 1983 as part of the Cluster system. They cursed us, spat on us, berated us and beat the crap out of us for many years. After 8 straight losses over 19 years, we finally turned the tables, winning six of the next ten. Yes, they have a bigger roster. And no they don't have kids who would rather play video games than excel at school and extracurriculars. Their parents don't pay tuition for them to be slugs. While the public school enrollment is increased with a diversity of kids who will never play anything. (If we could only ship them to Sullivan or Jasper!) Granted, over the years Mater Dei has lost some kids to the glitz and glamor of other schools. But the tradition which is Mater Dei will never die. So if you want to beat them stop worrying about the number on the sideline and focus on the 11 guys on the field. And by that I mean YOUR 11. Stop the run, change coverages, disguise coverages and "Run the damn ball!"

  2. I’ll be checking in from time to time, as I’m observing the crew on the Rensselaer @ Andrean game and yes, folks, @Coach Nowlinis just as goofy in person on the field as he is on here.

  3. One last thought about the game. Our teams are getting the opportunity to compete. Mater Dei and Linton are going to meet for the Sectional 40 championship. There are other teams in this uncertain environment that have not and are not getting to play. I feel for them after all of the work and effort they put in to find out they aren't going to play. It's one thing to be injured and not be able to finish your season. I always feel for the seniors that happens to. But this thing? You basically have no control over what is going on. They have my heartfelt sympathy and my gratitude for what they have given to the game. I wish them well in their futures.

  6. Lordy that was me in elementary.... those little footballs the cheerleaders would fire up in the stands... well I had about 3 of them. Me and my friends would find a patch of clearing something around the field... and just start wailing on each other Then a group from the other side would kinda stare us down LOL... yeah.. we'd be 9 or 10... so soon enough it was game time ... we had little idea of what was actually happening in the real game unless we heard a loud roar.. or the action came to our end of the endzone. Sometimes on the road it was a hill.. like at North Knox, others behind the bleachers at Sullivan etc. At Greencastle an on older girl just came up and flattened me.. busted my nose... I went scurrying to the stands with mom.. "Why are you up here? You are never up here".... I guess she couldn't see my shiny nose or watery eyes! I love to just soak in the High School environment... usually pregame I stroll the field... in and out of the players... the locker room... talk to people. Smell the food on the grills, the popcorn popped, the smell of the grass, the crack of the field drums from the band, the sound of cleats on the concrete, "Set... go" 400 times.... the buildup.... the looks on the kids eyes. The sound of the pads popping. The loud music blasting in lockerooms, the sound of tape being cut to wrap ankles.. and of course that locker-room stench that is one of a kind!!

  11. This. Right. Here. is why you don't count out Ben Davis or Warren Central in the tournament. Warren, in back-to-back weeks, defeats two of the best teams in Indiana, just after everyone, or most everyone, had written them off. Now, WC is in the Regional, along with Ben Davis. In other news, it's once again a disappointing tournament for the HCC. 1 guaranteed champion in 6A, and that's all they managed.

  25. Sectional Championship Hard Times Edition written edited and dictated by Spanky Harper runnin wild pioneer 56 v bremen 7 bremen bends bows and brakes to the powerful pioneer panthers. knox Rattskins postmortem Ross Rattkey rolled into town with high expectations. Nathan Winter of WVKI said that Ross would help guide and lead this team to titles. He werent wrong. The knox rattskins win the title for being the most disappointing team in the HNAC this season. but we should give some love to those kids who stood out this season. cade lovins was a monster linebacker when he wasn’t getting kicked out of games for attempting to punch players. kylie mcintyre was a good player when he wasn’t tackling opponents 5 yards out of the endzone. if u take kylie’s receiving yards for the season and subtract his penalties you end up -69 yards for the year. knox finished 6-5 this season. a fine coaching performance ever from Ross, ted, bo, luke, duke, shane, tyger. NIGHTMARE ON BLUEJAY DRIVE north Judson 42 v winamac 0 first and foremost, I want to apologize. Last week I gave a bit of poor advice. I gave a few pointers on how them jays could fire out of their 3point stance. I said they should use 60% pressure….little did I know how cold it was gonna be. When its that cold the sack is too exposed and slows ya up a lil bit…..sorry boys. What i should have said was for you to use your offhand to grasp your satchel and keep it warm as close to the snap as possible. Up in the stands my sack was so cold i swear it froze the floor boards somewhere early in the fourth quarter. I can’t let the jays off the hook for all those penalties last week. Here is my five point disciplinary plan to assist with reducing penalties for them jays. for every penalty committed u will spend one hour cleaning the toilets at mint fest AFTER the category 5 plays free bird as their third encore. That shit rips. their fans can never piss straight after rockin out and 10 beers deep when the d-line jumps off sides they have to eat a can of tuna acquired from baileys discount center. and not the quality 35 cent can….I mean the 15 cent can! no expiration date. no label. ya been warned. quit jumpin! when the WR commits another block in the back penalty they will go to the legion and sweep up all the cigarette butts and bring me $10 worth of pull tabs when the OLine has another false start they will be required to go to wapel farm and offer to spread winamac i mean shit for an hour. sorry i get winamac and shit confused sometimes any player that is ejected this season will be required to take an old bar whore from the oasis to prom this year. kissin on the mouth is required and it aint negotiable now regarding winamac, when I was a young man i used to work at winamac steel. teamsters went on strike and the plant closed. when i lost that job winamac put hard times on the spankster. my 83 pontiac fiero got repoed by ross rattkey cuz winamac put hard times on spank. i was down on my luck without a pot to piss in. Ross repoed my piss pot to. it was actually teddy but i digress. now that ol spanky is back on his feet and flyin higher than ever I have a surprise for all you winamacians. them jays have shut out winamac 11 straight quarters. i have partnered with the knights of columbus and rented out the ISIS theatre and I am gonna show yall, FREE OF CHARGE, every single shut out quarter. now spanky terrorizes you winamac. no snacks will be served except for a heapin pile of bluejay justice. u'll be force fed through your eyes the shit sandwich that of which you called offense and defense for 11 straight quarters. spanky had the joy of watchin you struggle mightily against them jays. now you will relive it in HD DOLBY SURROUND SOUND. this is my gift to you winamac. *ok...ISIS theatre just said that they can’t get HD Dolby Surround Sound. however I have negotiated with the real ISIS and they said they will handle it….whatever that means*

  33. Completely agree. I may have disagreed with some of your thoughts & opinions outlined in this thread but I respect them, nonetheless. Opinions are based on each of our own personal experiences in life and that is why they will often differ. Doesn't make them wrong, just different. One of my fave college profs used to say that "real understanding occurs at the point which two competing opinions collide". Life has shown that to be true.

  34. Linton has the North End Zone kids. There is always a bunch of them playing football there during a Miner home game. They are all pretending to be Miners. I know I have heard many Miner players say they used to play in the North End Zone when they were little.

  35. Good point on LCC. One of the smallest in 1As and had almost 60 on the team 10 years ago. Did they all go there to play football? I gotta go

  36. That's the point that he is trying to make. Linton has around 105 kids in their freshman class, but don't get 25 of them out for football. MD has around 128 in their freshman class, but gets 25 or more to come out for football. Sure, having an extra 25 kids per class gives you a better chance of getting 25 out but you still gotta be able to pull the numbers from what you've got. I don't really buy into the enrollment=success argument much. Doesn't matter how many options your kids have for prom dates compared to mine, if my kids are bigger, faster, and stronger than yours I'm going to win 9 out of 10 times. Just like back in the day when LCC was routing everyone with a much smaller enrollment than their competition. New Palestine has built a dynasty of a program in 4A-5A playing 8-9 kids both ways every game, it's all about who can adapt and play the best with what they got. Anyway, this has been fun - you got some conversation happening again on Linton threads! 😉 I've got the Miners winning tonight in a close game. They make a big play late - turnover or 4th down stop on D to seal it. Good luck to both teams, should be an awesome game!

  43. If IHSAA treats COVID missed games as forfeits by the team that bows out, then it makes it easier as it would just be handled the way it always has been. Even if you didn't play, if you were scheduled to play at home you "won" a home game and if you were scheduled to be away you "won" as an visitor. The potential problem comes in with treating them as byes due to the way that IHSAA treats byes with the team with a bye being considered a visitor as there's a potential for two teams to end up with "byes" via COVID.

  44. For my former favorite team, a 1-point win is handily. I have a hard time digesting what they're doing there now. It ain't what it used to be. WeBo is a well coached and prepared football team. With 2A south not looking really dominant, they could make a run to semistate if they play well. I also feel that if they don't play very well or make some mistakes that Seeger could knock them off. There are ghosts out there in those fields around West Lebanon. Just be careful regarding any receivers running along the back line of the end zone!
