I have no problem with any way you want to write the Mercy Rule. Start it anytime you want. Let the coaches agree to anything they want. Use whatever point differential you want. But that’s not what the rule says now, and the officials who allowed that to happen were wrong, because the rule, as written, does not permit it. There’s no discretion or judgment involved. This interpretation of the timing rule comes straight from the IHSAA. We now have a Mercy Rule. It’s the only way the timing rules can be varied. Officials are not empowered to disregard the rules just because, in this case, everyone was OK with them doing so.

Pyne gave the Irish a chance, but actually the Irish had their behinds handed to them today. The turnovers made it easier for the Bearcats but after the opening drive and terrible interception, the life was gone from them. I hope to never see Jack Coan behind an Irish center again! I know that won't happen but Coach BK needs to take a lot of heat for his decision making, or non making, today. Pyne is clearly the best of the three Irish QB's.

Pretty sure the guy in the first picture couldn’t carry this guys Jock! This guy is who trained GS #63. I’m sure #63’s family would take what this guys says over anyone else that has commented on #63’s playing. If you don’t know who he is, do your own research.

I understand what you’re saying. The remedy is to petition the IHSAA to change the rule. Simply put, game officials are not at liberty to disregard the rules, no matter how much we don’t like the rule. That’s way too slippery a slope. And the way to prevent this is don’t schedule an obviously non-competitive game and then expect the officials to bail you out.

My last comment on this: Our JV would have beat your "competitive" buddy and his former SS Rebel assistant Friday night (even with the EZ view film he was provided). If he wants to worry about something he needs to worry about he fact he had 10 men on the field no less than 5 times Friday night. I would start there. And please just stop with the super team crap. OK, so the formation is strong to the L’s side, with trips. That means L’s initial key is the 3rd wide receiver, while the back judge has the two widest on the strong side. But no one is in press coverage, so after his first read, L’s mechanic is to stay on the LOS and read the play. As the receivers on his side moved downfield, he would float to approximately linebacker depth. However, if he read “screen” right away, he’d stay right on the LOS. He should definitely be part of the conversation regarding the Umpire’s flag. That’s one that’s easy to pick up if, after discussion, you decide the ball didn’t cross the neutral zone. That’s not a call you want to nitpick, so the ball should be clearly beyond the NZ before calling the foul. The umpire doesn’t know, so he was right to throw the flag. One of the wing officials has to help there.

Sounds like a high school team I know. At the end of the day, it's hard to win games when a team makes as many mistakes as ND did. Interception inside the 10 yard line. Fumbled kickoff return. Dropped wide open pass that led to a punt. Missed extra point. Not playing the right quarterback from the beginning of the game. Everyone knew Pyne was our guy. Why didn't Kelly? Instead, a Group of Five school comes in with swagger and beats Notre Dame in there own house and rubbed it in along the way. I would think that's a hard pill to swallow for the ND coaches and players.

Doing a little research, I discovered that crews have been quite inconsistent in interpreting this rule, despite the pretty clear language. So, I sent the following play situation to Asst. Commissioner Faulkens and requested an official interpretation of the application of Rule 1-5-3c(2) to the situation. As you can tell from the disclaimer at the bottom of my posts, the IHSAA is the only source of official interpretations of the National Federation football rules. On the first scrimmage play after the opening kickoff, Team A’s offense goes directly to the line from the sideline. All of the players are wearing wristbands containing information on plays, blocking schemes, etc. As the offense gets to the line, all the players turn to the sideline where a coach is holding an electronic LED message board containing 2 red numbers and 2 green numbers. The players then look to their wristband for the corresponding numbers, and run the indicated play. It took about 5 minutes for Mr. Faulkens to respond. The official ruling: “Absolutely illegal.” Spread the word.

Glad everyone is safe, kudos to the police for a quick apprehension. But damn, shouldn't have to fear for your life as a player or fan going to a football game.

My spouse, who has in-laws living in the Cincinnati area, raves about this stuff and has to go a Skyline whenever we visit. I don't see the appeal.

Unless you could care less about defense.... The Big 12 is terrible! I tuned into the TCU/Texas game, and NOBODY can stop anyone at all! It looks like a pee-wee league game with a couple of big dudes dominating all the time....and the other guys just running around. Texas will be the middling team in the SEC when they get there....nothing at all that tells me they will be a factor at all in that conference for the foreseeable future.

This is a topic often not considered when schools are looking for potential opponents. It's probably THE most important thing that should be considered. If a school still has paper coke/Pepsi cups for soft drinks with real carbonation happening behind the counter. That school gets a +5 on the concessions list. You can usually tell a lot about the quality of opponents by how good food is at the concessions. If they have burnt popcorn or cold hot dogs and no greasy hamburgers or brauts like a college campus don't consider them. US parents like to eat a lot so quit making me stop at fast food on my way to the games and let me support the FFA club by buying a 1/2lbs heart attack burger they made on a grill donated by the local bar. Allow me to buy the 1gal slushy from the drama department. My point is concessions have gotten worse and I'm tired of cold popcorn terrible tasting better for your health hot dogs, and soft drinks that taste like they sat in an athletic department cooler since last year. I want greasy unhealthy foods with softdrinks in a paper cup and real carbonation. So what schools have the best concession stands?

Agree to disagree. The "parents" of the Rushville kids never should have had them. They will be a drain on society for years to come.

If the foul occurs prior to the ball being ready for play on 1st down for the new series, it’s going to be 1st and 10 after enforcement. If after the ready, it’s 1st & 25. “When a new series of downs is awarded, the penalties for all fouls (including nonplayer and unsportsmanlike) committed prior to the ready-for-play shall be administered before the line to gain is established.” 5-3-1.

Why are we condemning Lawrenceburg when the parents of the Rushville kids should be ashamed? They are the ones with the poor genetics that reproduced failures. Hats off to Lawrenceburg for putting up a dominate performance.

I believe I seen some noise on Twitter about ineligible receivers down field last week so I’m sure there were some bulletin points for the refs Gibson Southern running a ton of RPO and bootlegs probably doesn’t help because the OL has to be much more disciplined to execute those plays without drawing a penalty….you’re going to get holding calls on plays where the QB moves outside of the pocket frequently….and you’re going to get the ineligible man downfield if you run the RPO a lot. the refs are probably keyed in on these things coming into the game…and really you have to be. If you know the RPO is going to be there you have to be aware of how far the OL can move before the ball is thrown refs get an earful from almost every coach and I doubt MTVs coach had much to do with the penalties. GS players probably played a little more sloppy in some instances and got called for it….practice hard clean it up and move on

38-24 Miners... never have I seen 2 kickoff returns for touchdowns against Linton in a single game.. ... and both times it put the Warriors right back into the game. It was an electric atmosphere for sure. I think Linton's passing game was instrumental in the win. Momentum swung mightily to both sides all night. Holtman Doades broke a long TD run...and that was essentially all Linton gave up defensively. A wrong alignment on a punt opened up another huge Doades run inside the 5. But overall a good effort keeping Sheren in the barn, but I will say the backup kid had some great runs in the 4th as well. Linton had 3 backs with 80+ yards... I don't have the stats in front of me.. .but wanted to recognize both teamss in a hard fought effort..

I’ve never been a fan of the XII. I liked the Big 8, and maybe they should have merged with the Big Ten instead. But that ship has obviously sailed, so the proverbial “what if’s” have no merit. As for the old SWC, meh. You had UT, A & M, and TCU produce good seasons every now and then, but no long-term stability. Hopefully the new additions coupled with UT and Oklahoma bolting will result in a better league.

Yes, my memory was extremely faulty on that, and I was thinking of Pike on the CI thing, although I have been to the Ben Davis campus some time ago for both football and basketball games but it was many moons ago.

I don't recall a flea flicker pass, at least in the traditional form, earlier in the season, although if my memory is correct and it's often not, TH North ran one of those tosses to a running back who in turn threw the ball back to the QB on the opposite side of the field, who then threw a long TD pass. That was a few games ago, so again, maybe my memory is off on that one. Regardless, the secondary has been our biggest flawed area on defense this season, and has been burned numerous times on deep pass plays, and at this point in the season it probably won't be corrected and we just have to live with it. I don't know how long David will be out and they were icing down his ankle back in the 1st when the injury happened, but we certainly need him back. I don't know if they will find a replacement game for the canceled Morton game, and I haven't been to any other sites yet today to see if there is anything new on that, but David could have an extra week to try and get back on the field with a potential open date.

Head coach stopped #63 and said that he was a good player and didn’t have to play dirty. Head coach may want to slow mow the high light real that GS put on last night and watch his MTV D-end with Flagrant “head shots”. Home Team Friday has a great clip of it happening. Last I checked, football was a contact sport. Anything goes within the rules.

In Fort Wayne I'd pick North Side. The community seems to really get involved. If I'm remembering right, they have someone doing the actual grilling, no different than a tailgate. Snider/Northrop's Spuller Stadium on the visiting side offers the worst bratwurst you'll ever have in your life. It tastes like it was microwaved. Any out of towners visiting this stadium are better served sliding into Arby's down the street and bringing your food in.

I think Dwenger or Snider will be on good shape to give Valpo a challenge, if they advance in regional. Snider is really starting to play well, will see how well, next two games against Dwenger and Luers.

35-7. That was a beautiful game for the Irish. 33 rushes for 45 yards. Michael Page was 6-8 for 142 and 2 tuddies. Knocked out their #1 RB Indiana Commit in the 2nd. DannyO with two insane rolling passes. One was the best I've ever seen in high school. LaSalle had the most deplorable accommodations of an away game since Evansville Reisz 2007. No visitor parking of any kind. All paid reserved parking was for LaSalle boosters. It was a joke. Glad we beat their entitled asses. On to Brebeuf. One more W until the showdown. Trap game.

First half wasn't much to write home about either. Will be interesting to see if it costs them in the playoffs. Some years it hasn't hurt them but I'd argue no way they make it to state in 2019 had they not learned some early lessons against Marion and Delta. But in years prior they ended up in the state finals anyway with a lackluster regular season schedule.

I ate food from the Parke Heritage concession stand and it made me crap in my pants by the end of the 1st quarter. When the Wolfs scored the first touchdown of the game, the fireworks display overstimulated me and the poop came cascading out like hot buttered lard through a sieve. It was a steamy August evening, perfect weather for wearing shorts. There were a couple of kids playing under the bleachers beneath me. The sounds of their confused and disgusted screams will haunt me for all of my earthly days.

Not to be political but we can ban plastic starws because they are bad for the environment. Let's ban plastic soda bottles at sporting events and give me my 100% recyclable paper cups! Plus I'm sure with all them chemicals released from the plastic into my drink is what is making me FAT. 🙄

I haven't seen this at a high school football concession stand in probably 20 years. Must be going to the wrong schools. Anybody have a list of what schools still do this? Oh, and just for Coke. Pepsi is an abomination. State Law.

Quit starting these threads hopefully rushville uses this as motivation to get better as a program. also Hanover was up 69-6 at half over whiting, I was hoping Hanover would keep bringing it to teach whiting a lesson.
