  1. The people of South Bend voted for Pete Buttigeig to be their mayor. That tells you all that you need to know.

  3. I was busy with family matters yesterday and didn't get to post in the Cathedral/Center Grove thread. I just wanted to say I was happy for Steve Wheat. Steve and I worked together at an Avon auto dealer for most of 5 years. It must have brought a smile, or maybe even a tear, to Steve's face to see his grandson run 67 yards for the go ahead TD in the game Friday night. I also am happy for Grover, who's been a friend of mine for many years. Don't get me wrong, I wanted my team to win but, as I said before, losing Friday night had no after game consequences. Both teams now just get on with the business of winning a State Championship.

  5. I can’t help but chuckling and thinking of a certain scene in “Life of Brian” reading this. Nothing to do with the player (I’m sure he’s a great kid)….just the “Latin”.

  6. Looks like 5 SIAC teams play non conference foes this week. May we'll start to get some sanity from Sagarin?

  8. I don’t think my feeling’s have changed much about Chatard all year. Over the first four games, they played the most difficult schedule in the State of Indiana up to that point - Brebeuf, Warren Central, Roncalli and Cathedral. That was supported by BOTH Sagarin and CalPreps. Other than the Cathedral game, they were very competitive in the other games (they even lead a good part of the Warren game). In retrospect, I think they should have won the Brebeuf game but 4-5 turnovers against a great team is almost always terminal. I think they win that game today. I was never disappointed in this team’s record knowing just what they had been through those first four games. The fact is, after the Warren and Roncalli games, I was really impressed with them. Most teams their size would have huddled in a fetal position and taken the expected beat down. These kid’s didn’t. They gave back as good as they got. This is a solid Chatard team and as good as the majority of their prior State Champion teams…but, admittedly, not quite up to the mark of, arguably, two of the better Chatard teams ever that we witnessed the last couple of years. I stand behind my observation some weeks back when they were 0-4 and I asked that, other than Roncalli, what other 4A team in Indiana could have survived those first four games let alone have been competitive in three of them? I didn’t think there was another 4A team then (other than Roncalli) and my opinion hasn’t changed since. In fact, I think that Chatard has likely improved comparatively more than any of those teams they played in their early losses. I still believe Roncalli is at another level vs. the rest of 4A this year - but I also think that Chatard is the second best team in 4A this year and has an outside shot at them. God knows, no one else in 4A has fought the wars these kids did early on and they’ve earned a ton of respect from me in watching them (not that they needed it).

  9. In South Bend, the City government and the school board aren't associated. Although efforts are being made.

  10. Simple fix we started doing many years ago, if you don’t vote, we don’t work there. I have never sent emails/snail mail to coaches/AD’s, never told anyone how to vote. When I give coaches my card in pregame and yes it’s even printed in my card, “Please vote for tournament officials”. I used to bail out a small rural school near me on lower level games, AD called me one day needing help and I told him I can’t do it, you didn’t vote for us for the last several years and we have a policy if you don’t vote we no longer work there. I have not worked at that school since, but they have vote for us ever since. This is just one example.

  13. It’s a true gauntlet. You have #1 Luers #2 Eastbrook #3 Andrean #6 Eastside and #8 Tipton that are all REALLY good ball clubs. Eastbrook and Tipton potential matchup in their sectional final and then of course the Luers/Eastside rubber match. Andrean seems to have a clear path to semi state but I don’t count out the Panthers of Pioneer and their run game. However it shakes out, 2A North will be well represented.

  14. That yr was well documented.... said team was also said.. (mayb Donnie knows if it true)... to hav a lineman that supposedly had a D1 ride in the BiG.... but hey... the WRC is full of those every yr.... 😉

  15. Jeff Adamson's EASTBROOK PANTHERS are a darn good team again!!

  16. He is an impressive football player and I agree they are a multi-dimensional threat. However, as @x-star pointed out, they did seem to struggle in inclement weather conditions. If a team like Eastbrook who runs almost every snap catches them on a night like that, they could be in for a game.

  18. Sir Hale #2 may have a LOT to say about that. Luers is a multi-dimensional threat. He spoke to me after the Snider game, and I truly believe that he is on a PERSONAL mission .... ground-wise.

  19. There is a band across Central Indiana. From about Lafayette to Marion along the North of that band, and the Northern half of Marion County at the Southern end; you will see teams regularly switch from the North to the South and Vice Versa in the smaller classes. Marion has been in our sectional in years past, but when they went to Semi State a couple years ago, they were in the Southern half of sectionals.

  20. Fields is a difference maker. Another player that stood out was Roquan Smith. Man he can hit; reminds me of Singletary. As far as the Packers go; still take way too many deep shots. It's weird to think they are just not very good at it. When the run game and short passing game are going, it does open up an occasional deep route. 196 yards rushing as a team on the day....not too shabby. The Packers played well with some significant injuries going in the game, and losing Savage during the game was tough. I will cut the red zone defense some slack with injuries. How about Kenny Clark? 2 HUGE sacks (that's what she said) late in the game. Jaylon Smith saw some action and had one good QB pressure that made Fields throw early. If he is used as a rusher, they will be ok, but they had him in coverage a few times; not his strong suit. On to play WTF.....errr WFT lol at Lambeau......will be there in person, so the summary at this time next week MIGHT be a bit more entertaining.

  23. That won't matter much. After Round 2 of sectionals it should be pretty close because there will be enough SIAC contact with the outside world..

A 3rd generation of a family that look forward to being involved with education based athletics. I won't be around on the field of play...but I will be as always on the sidelines.

  25. So it was Mitchell! At least you got away with $5 parking, you outta see what the cost for non-Catholics was at the auto-de-fe events in Spain. I will concede that there are some high school bands that would deserve more than just a pelting with dye-filled water balloons for their horrible renditions of the Star-Spangled Banner .... or worse, Ironman. A couple of games I've gone to, there should have been a human sacrifice to atone for those renderings.

  29. Kirk Ferentz has been at Iowa for a long time and it seems they have a game or two like this every season. The Hawkeye record is good under Ferentz but they've lost some games that make you scratch your head. the Boilermakers were solid and kicked their behinds yesterday. It was no fluke. They really BOILERED UP!

  30. I think I actually like Westfield too honestly but have to pick an upset here or there. Merrillville is definitely the underdog but not by as much of a margin as I would’ve said at the beginning of the season. I know it’s an Internet forum and social media doesn’t necessarily represent reality but one would have to think that those kids in Northwest Indiana are tired of being dismissed and disrespected. I think they play with a chip on their shoulder.

  31. Isn't this pretty standard across Indiana? Townships have determined school attendance, even in some cases crossing county lines? I guess the bigger cities are starting to see public services merge -- fire departments, police/sheriff departments, other forms of governance. I'm generally not a big fan of redundant systems, but also like to see governance and services as accountable as possible. Idk. Big decisions.

  32. There was a lot of talk in the off season about Snider's "downfall." Every team experiences a one or two year decline every so often. With undefeated JV and Freshmen teams, I'd say the program is alive and well.

  33. We really don't know how much better Chatard is since the first match up. Like you said, they've beaten some bad teams, as they should have. I would obviously love to see Chatard win the rematch, but I just don't see how they make up for the size/talent difference. Roncalli literally has a D1 offensive line. The first game felt like Chatard kept it as close as they could. Hope I'm wrong, but I think Chatard has a much better chance next year.

  36. You rate Center Grove over Luers in terms of tradition and prestige? I think 99% of those who follow high school football might disagree. That sounds absurd coming from someone who actually follows Luers.

  44. So far the biggest outcry is from the largest blowhard (yourself). Honestly I don't care about other media sites etc that would be up at arms. Wouldn't have changed the outcome, just like anything said from the other side wouldn't change the outcome. It has been very well documented both teams have speed, both teams have a lot of talent, and both teams have depth. Just because you want to use narrative bias doesn't change that. They didn't change the venue because Arlington is their homefield and it was last year too. Honest question are you that dense? It doesn't matter if every football fan had the game circles since last October. I doubt Coach Moore or Coach Peebles care about every football fan circling it on their calendar, and I'd bet they care more about their team. That is what you don't get, they aren't there to cater to you or any other fan. They are there for their team if you come to watch so be it. They didn't need time to find another venue because the game was going to be played on their homefield rain, snow, or shine. They have already paid to rent the facility, they have already paid to resurface and upkeep the field. It will be there next week as well and any other potential home games unless the IHSAA forces them not to hold it there. No need to whine about it anymore. "Arlington is Cathedral's home field" doesn't matter if you like it or not, nor if CG or their fans like it or not. It is rented for the year and money put into what they can. End of subject.
