Here's a proposal to the IHSAA. In today's wonderful world of technology which allows every Semi-State game to be broadcast on IHSAATV, why not play half of the games (2A,4A,6A) on Friday night & half of the games (1A,3A,5A) on Saturday? It seems like a win-win for all fans. More tickets would probably be sold (passionate HS football fans could attend multiple Semi-State games instead of having to choose one) along with more PPV purchases. Every state finalist would still have a full 7 days between their Semi-State game & the State championship game.

Lets not drag the girls at the Hugger into this !

The NCAA rule is that *independent third party* organizations cannot use college venues. For example, Ray Compton's group cannot rent Hinkle Fieldhouse or Assembly Hall for a game. What was happening was shoe companies and somewhat slimy folks in the basketball recruiting game were scheduling "shootouts" at college venues involving prime recruits to try to steer those recruits to that school. A school or a state association (such as the IHSAA) absolutely can rent out college venues. Several State Finals are held at them - volleyball & gymnastics at BSU, track at IU, softball at Purdue. GBB was at ISU for a few years. But third parties cannot. I believe the Tri-Eastern Conference rents out Ball State's stadium for a Saturday quadrupleheader every few years. A few years back, when Purdue had a Friday home game, it offered up Ross-Ade for the local high schools to play on Saturday.

As would I, however, I would say in my entire career (HS/College) I played on 1 properly maintained grass field. I had 3 injuries directly related to field conditions on grass and never had an issue on turf. In the instance of the NFL with the resources to properly maintain a grass playing surface they should do so, but don't think that's scalable for high schools.

Related - I feel like the NFL has given up trying to make sure the inside/slot receiver isn't covered up by the wideout. I watch games and there is no way one of them is off and one is on. I can't be the only one watching games on Sunday and think "No way is that guy eligible to go downfield."

I want Chatard to win, but if WL wins then I wouldn't mind if Monrovia beat them at state. I think WL and Chatard are about even, and I can't be sure who will win. The winner of WL/Chatard will probably win state.

The Ville wasn't anywhere close to what they were the past two years, but they were still solid. Valpo lured the Pirates into playing a slow defensive battle that played right into the Vikings' hands. As for LaPorte in 2014, Boilernation pretty much summed it up: A team with a great running back and a wily old coach in his last run got hot at the right time. The DAC was also almost exclusively a 6A conference at that point so the Slicers were used to playing up in terms of competition. Add in the fact that they were playing for a fallen teammate that year and you have the right cocktail of motivation and players for a surprise run.

I agree with you on this. 2 point home field advantage means squat. Real home field advantages are like going to Green Bay in the cold, A dome stadium that is really loud, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, etc….

Playing rules yes. Recruiting and contact rules very different. I think NAIA may technically have some rules but I'm not sure how much they enforce them. One of the college fields I've worked on has both HS and college hash marks because it's a community field used for both. Every time I've worked there I've put the ball on the HS hash for a college game at least once. The snapper very politely reminds me of my error.

I had a Semi-State game at Mishawaka Marian (Brebeuf) that was stopped by a torrential lightning and rain storm for 3-4 hours. We ended on Friday night at well past 1AM. Forecast for Saturday was Thunderstorms and Rain ALL DAY, that also happened. Perhaps we should remember that weather is a determining factor in stretching games beyond the Friday nights that are scheduled. Oh and BTW...Brebeuf made it clear they were NOT coming back on Saturday, as well as the Commissioner. We WERE finishing the Friday night scheduled contest, come hell or high water. No pun intended!

Indeed, but if BC wins and then wins regional next year (both likely) they are out of 3A for at least a couple years, not the worst thing that could happen.

Carroll (FW) had the BEST grass field in the local area (Bar None!). I understand the move to field turf...for the added functionality of a variety of educational as well as sports endeavors. I am not gonna say that I am opposed to grass all the time, but sometimes it's kinda "Brave" to have to do game at certain places....😃 Long, weird lines, and I swear to god...holes that just pop up out of nowhere.

I'm not sure if this has been done in previous seasons, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like John Harrell has been keeping track of all the teams that avenged a regular season loss in the playoffs. So far there have been 17 playoff rematches with a different outcome than the regular season matchup. There's the old cliché that "It's hard to beat the same team twice" and while some roll their eyes at this I've always thought there was a lot of truth to it. We saw rematches go the other way last year with BD-Brownsburg, Northridge-NorthWood, and Michigin City-Valpo, I'm sure among others. Maybe if I have time later I'll try to go through and see the percentage of how many rematches got flipped this season. Just something I thought was interesting and wanted to point out.

It is definitely a year-to-year basis. 2020 and 2021 PAC knocks the socks off the SIAC with a combination of Brady Allen and Devin Mockabee. Goebel/Hurley vs Buening/Hart would be an unbelievable coaching matchup. Old School vs New School powerhouses.

Going to be tied to keeping Mullis from running the ball on pass plays or going to the backside when there's sweep motion. This is where WL kills you if you are able to stop other elements of their game. And that offensive line doesn't typically get pushed straight back into the backfield on passes and that provides options for Mullis to escape ... if you try to go around the blockers, he slips into the slot and takes off. If the line gets your rushers funneled into the middle, he takes off on the outside. He averages 10 yards a carry and his lowest average, when running five or more times in a game is 6 yards a carry. 3rd and long is pretty much nothing to West Lafayette when you have a QB back there that can do that ... and that's what gets to most defenses ... you've got WL backed up, 3rd and long, and then Mullis gets out and the chains move and you now have to go another four downs with them. Mullis keeps drives alive when they look dead. Defenses can be great for four downs, but when you give a team 7 or 11 downs, especially a team like WL, that's like adding extra bullets to the chamber in Russian Roulette.

Chatard has seen their tempo before, they have seen these concepts before, both outstanding programs and coaching staffs. In the end, it will be about who's Jimmy's and Joe's perform better. sidenote, one constant over the MANY years of playing WL is their Offensive Line, shout out to former Boilermaker, Kelly Kitchel and the job he does each and every year

I buy in to the idea that it's hard to beat a team twice in a season when the initial score is tight ... kind of the law of averages. But it's just amazing the swing on some of these games. A couple of them make sense when you look at injury reports, but some are just head-scratchers like, how did Pike Central let Washington run up 41 points in the first game and shut out their offense and then turn around and limit Washington to a single TD?

Same. It just doesn't feel like a true "state championship game" to me if both participants are within 30 minutes of downtown Indy. Maybe I am alone in that thinking. Go Chargers!

Listen, I am not here to defend how the PAC does all conference, it clearly needs some updating. Like I said earlier in the thread, my personal opinion is that the overall honors should be "add-ons" to the position honors, unfortunately the PAC isn't concerned with what Titan32 thinks.

No, I wouldn't mind if Monrovia beat WL and won state. I just don't think they will get past Lawrenceburg. But you never know because I'm still trying to figure out how Danville beat Western Boone.

I willing to bet they change them. I know for certain they changed them at the dome. We practiced there when they were just finishing tightening the bolt for crossbar. The other thing is imagine an attempted FG for a chance to win a title that hits the uprights. I am also willing to bet the IHSAA considered that same thing and made it a must have for any HS game.

Correct...............first nine weeks of the season. All it takes is one out of conference game for Sagarin to start making sense. I typically start to pay attention to them after sectionals.

Eventually Linton will crack the "MD code/curse/whatever you want to call it" - they are too good a program not to. Typically I would have a pretty good pulse on this game, as both were old Sectional 40 adversaries (how much fun would that old sectional have been this year!?) and I would have watched plenty of snaps from both. But, not anymore...have only seen very little on Linton, and not one snap of MD all year. But- feel like this years Linton team has that "this is our year" vibe to it....I'll take Linton by a couple scores.

It's typical for the officials on here to stick up for the crew and try to deflect this onto the players and coaches. This isn't about a player or coach committing an infraction or dropping a pass. It's about a crew member who forgot one of his responsibilities. My question is how are these handled by the IHSAA? Obviously you don't suspend the crew for life from the tourney. What do they do? There has to be some accountability. I'm not interested in officials rallying around someone and trying to defend his mistake. This wasn't a judgment call, it was something they should be doing every play of every game. They are the professionals assigned to officiate the game, not a bunch of guys rounded up to call it at the last minute. They are also subject to criticism just like the players and coaches are. Bob, how do you handle this is you are the HS football officiating czar? I respect you, you've worked a couple games we were a part of, so I really want to know what happens next?

This was inexcusable. There’s no defense for it. Having said that, it doesn’t help when fans like you make statements like this, which portray the back judge as a guy just standing around with his thumb up his a$$. In reality the back judge has a number of pre-snap responsibilities in addition to counting the defense, just like everyone else in the crew. Sometimes the hardest things to know are what you don’t know.
