  2. While I'm sure every Chatard and TV fan is thrilled to be on a long list of threads that are hijacked by conversations about unrelated Cathedral nonsense, why don't you guys take it to another thread so we can get back on topic.

  3. This must be the typical "team of the decade" that 99% of government school football programs cycle through, where p/p's usually have a much lower drop off in athletic talent/experience from class to class to class.

  6. Got it. It's easier just to blame the IHSAA. "A nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse" You won't be bored. Trust me on that.

  7. "The way in which they lost to Cathedral" is the way most teams on their schedule lose to Cathedral. It is going to take a special group of players to beat Cathedral on any given Friday. I'm not sure the "higher standards" thing applies. Penn was ahead of the curve for many years. I just think many programs have caught up. It is not that Penn is doing anything wrong. How would those teams of old done if there was a success factor back in the glory days?

  8. Maybe I'm missing something in translation, but Penn is 8-1 and their only loss is to Cathedral. Last I checked, they are pretty good. They are probably going to be in the sectional championship against Carroll. I know Penn seemed to have a standing seat at the in the state finals back in the day, but they are still competitive. If they beat Carroll in the final, they will have a great chance against whoever comes out of sectional 1. The staff at Penn is doing fine.

  12. Here are my thoughts on this season in the NLC as well as going forward into the post season. Congratulations to Warsaw and Mishawaka...well deserved co champs! I think this season was one of the more competative seasons within the NLC. At the begging of the season, I don't think there was a full on favorite to win the crown. Warsaw / Mishawaka / NW / Northridge all had a chance with Concord not that too far of a stretch. My biggest takeaways from the regular season was actually the bottom half of the conference. Plymouth / Goshen / Wawasee all showed great improvment from previous years (not looking at the records). Plymouth...2 years since a win, that is a huge mental hurdle to jump over. Wawasee's record shows only 1 win...but those kids came to play every game and made every team they played work for it. Then there is Goshen...while I don't understand what is going on with Goshen's program...I know they have about 10 kids going both ways and those fellas give it their all. I really hope numbers improve...they have a good coach, great facilities and a passionate fan base. It was a fun season...and now on to the post season: Our big boys have the week off and in my opinion all of the NLC teams will make it to week 2 of sectionals. Northridge at Logansport: Logansport runs that offense that no likes to prepare for, however, I feel like Warsaw and Mishawaka run it much better than Logansport and NR has seen it before. I don't think Northridge will have any troubles beating the mighty berries from Logansport. If I remember correctly, the visiting teams locker room at Logansport is about the size of a broom closet...hopefully the weather will permit Northridge to hang out under the trees rather than cram in there (I base this on the covid year when NW played at Logansport / I don't remember the away locker rooms being that large nor having air conditioning but I could be wrong). Northridge 49 Logansport 14 Wawasee at Riley: Riley getting that NIC championship...good for them as it has been...a few..years for them. I think that Wawasee's schedule was better than Riley's and Wawasee played everyone really well. I think Wawasee may win its first playoff game in 10-11 years! Wawasee 21 Riley 13 Plymouth at Washington: This was probably the best draw for both teams to get a 1st round victory. This may turn out to be a good game. I again think that Plymouth has played a better season than Washington. I think this will be close, however, Plymouth will come out on top. Plymouth 28 Washington 7 NorthWood at St. Joe: I think NW has figured out their defense and have made adjustments when necessary. I don't feel like this game will be too competative. St. Joe beat whom they should have this year and lost to whom most would have guessed. I will take NW by possibly a running clock at some point. NW 49 St. Joe 14 All in all I think all the NLC teams playing this week will be playing in round two. Good luck to everyone!

  19. It’s so clear now, @Titan32 is sad because his boy won’t get to win another state championship because they don’t have another Brady Allen at the helm. A truly gifted player and a generational talent at the 3A level. He should be proud of his one ring. You should be proud of your son. Hopefully your kid can go on to do great things in life and you can let go of the sadness.

  22. TV has some big kids and a few kids with speed. They played tough in the first quarter. The inability to pass (Int on their first real throw) and a fumble the only time they crossed the fifty (until late in the fourth against the BCHS back up defense) looked like it sapped their emotion. It seemed like the Chatard coaches made some defensive adjustments and I’m not sure if TV had 100 yards of offense until late in the fourth quarter (when the score was already 40-0). Their best RB was apparently in a boot for most of the week and I am sure that had an effect on their performance. On the other side of the ball, Chatard's starting QB was back after a 5 week absence and had to knock some rust off in the first quarter. After he settled down he threw two beautiful touchdown passes. The defense (the strength of this team) got stingy and the offensive line began to wear down the TV defense. They mixed throws and runs very effectively and a team will have to defend sideline to sideline against them as well as vertically. As I have said many times, it will take a very good offensive team to drive a ball the length of the field against this defense. They might give up a big play or two at some point but that will not be the norm. Offensively they have been pretty safe with the ball and haven’t self destructed (like the did against GC last year in the regular season). Look for next week to be BCHS 28-GC 0. Chatard will be entering the game healthy and their #1 RB may actually play (he has been out 6 weeks). Tonight their RB off the future, a freshman, carried the load on the last drive and scored his first varsity TD. This team is deep.

  32. In a year where it seems wide open, if I had to pick, I’m going to have to go with CG too. They’re going to waltz to semi-state where in a game against BD/Brownsburg/Cathedral you gotta like their chances. This team just seems to always find a way to get it done, even in the games where they don’t play up to their usual standards. They’re a machine.

  37. IU swings and miss on 5-star Boogie Fland who commits to UK over the Hoosiers . that’s the world of national recruiting while IU seems to be just about done only left is 5-star Derik Queen whom most believe is Maryland bound despite being a teammate of McNeely . it’s a little concerning with only 1 signee in ‘24 but also important to keep in mind that 3 of IUs 5-stars under Woodson were previously committed elsewhere at some point . With the transfer portal as well roster construction is a totally different animal these days . with Hoosier Hysteria just hours away it’s time to shift the focus to this season unknown and excited to see how this season plays out !

  38. Not a big deal. There just aren't a lot of Tippecanoe Valley athletic supporters on this forum, and those that are during this time of year should be out in the fields harvesting their crops. They don't have the time to bicker about a football game.

  41. Right now, I think we need someone that is younger and more innovative on the offensive side of the ball. Penn's issue right now is their lack of inspiration. Their D seems to be good year in and year out, recently their issue has been the Offense staying on the field. So, if a coaching change is not in the cards, then their needs to be a scheme change. One things kids do not like at the high school level is getting beat up on play after play, I am all for going back to the traditional ground and pound trap style of offense. scrap the lateral zone runs that end in the backfield, north and south running plays that result in 3-4 yards per play. This will allow you to run play action more effectively and when you get later in the games you can lean in on the O-line because they have just been pounding the d-line all night. The beauty is you can run aggressive downhill plays from the gun or under center, you don't have to be a 22 or 32 formation to play a physical style of ball.

  43. I don't think they will be able to.. I was looking over their schedule and they've only played one team above .500 This have a good chance of being a high scoring game I'd say... Team with the ball last might win it

  44. It would be... Except the IHSAA has to approve all broadcasts during the tournament... Western Boone has a student run TV station and has broadcast all the games this year via YouTube. They were told that they couldn't broadcast this Sectional game.

  47. Seeding is a good idea with the all-in tournament, and seeding teams within the four regionals before re-seeding for the semi state should mitigate travel concerns to a reasonable degree.

  48. I have been annoyed by how sectionals handles their home and away splits. We have had years where we would travel to the region then to Fort Wayne just to travel to the Indy area. With maybe one home game in that stretch.
