This was always going to be the narrative. Last year it was, “their schedule was weak, beat a ranked team”. Indiana proceeds to beat a ranked team (a top 10 team at that one that is still ranked) and the narrative shifts to “Illinois was overrated” or “Illinois was injured”. The narratives are going to keep changing as IU continues to get better and better. If IU was an SEC team or any other name brand program, they’d be the #1 team in the country right now after that performance. There are certain media groups and fans of certain fan bases that simply cannot handle the rise of Indiana’s program. Just going to have to accept that. Makes it all the more sweeter.2 points

"True North" Indiana is 20 years late on MAJOR realignment in all athletic conferences....I would include the SAC & DAC in that...althought those conferences are "healthy" conferences....they could make a few changes and be really solid conferences. The driving distances/time change issues are just an excuse. Both metro Indy schools and "rural" schools have way more driving on the average Friday night.2 points

I disagree. I'd prefer a nonconference game on the schedule every year that places us as the obvious underdog. That seems to be how Gibson's schedule is usually laid out, and I think its a good call.2 points

NV @ Attica - This game might be a tie... Who ever scores twice first wins the game. PH @ Covington - Covington is looking good. Their only loss coming to a good Mustang team. Covington will continue their winning this week. Wolves will keep it interesting for a bit. Covington 34 Wolves 20 Seeger @ Herb's - Foxworthy is back!!! He played against the Rambles last Friday and showed why he's the best qb in the WRC. He threw for 264 yards and 2 tds. He looked healthy too. FC is a DANGEROUS team with him at qb. I don't think this game will be close. KING will have all the answers the Seeger will try and throw at them. @Richard C Herb will have the starters out to rest so it won't get too ugly. FC wins 42 -20 SV @ RP - RPs game with NV was really close in the first half. I'm not sure if they were resting players or not but even if they were, it shouldn't be that close. SV could keep it close for a quarter but RP will pull away and win by 60+2 points

the idea that an 18 year old kid plays exactly the same after a multi hour bus ride, as he would on his home field makes so little sense that I have to believe that the study you're referencing is inherently flawed.2 points

To those who think Warren would be a win for your squad: Warren has a fantastic defense. They have one of the best running backs in the state. They have two QBs who share time and can sling it, too. WC is only getting better. Unless you're one of the top 6A teams or maybe one or two in 5A, you're not beating them.2 points

Lafayette Jeff doesn't have any quality wins. They play in a weak conference and annually are one of the most overrated teams in the state. Their best win is over Michigan City by 17. Merrillville beat Michigan City by 37. Also, Chatard played their backup QB during the Lafayette Jeff game.2 points

You can see Caleb Williams developing right in front of you. That throw on the flea flicker was insane. But the important thing is Johnson is now trusting him with plays like that. That tells me a lot about what Johnson thinks of him, and I trust his opinion.2 points

This is going to be an interesting week. FC wrecked the Ramblers last week. Whether @KDumbwitty likes it or not @ThePrince was right. Coach Dean at Attica in this podcast, Coach Dean’s Hot Take, makes it clear what he thinks of FC, PH, Seeger, & NV. All their coaches should have a listen and use it as material to get their guys fired up. My picks for this week don’t align with him. I’ll take… The Wolves over Covington, PH is underrated, and Rector will have a game plan ready to win this battle of King’s assistant coaches. NV over Attica, it’ll be close, but Crabtree and Herb’s protege Earl will have a game plan together to keep the Rambler’s new losing streak going. FC over Seeger, FC is going to keep momentum rolling and edge out the Pats in a season changing game. Sanders and company will pound the Wildcats about the ways he does his tenderloins.1 point

Oh, come on dad. 🙂 Enjoy it while it lasts ... the coaches will have them ready.1 point

Maybe, or maybe they will beat us by 20. I got a feeling we are going to get their best game. To be honest, they need to get their heads out of the clouds. I say that as a dad of a senior starter.1 point

The loss of the dynamic duo isn't going to be the problem next year, the problem is that we graduate 1400 lbs of offensive linemen. Jett and Ty are generational athletes for us slack jawed rednecks, but you can always find someone to carry the ball and run fast. I'd put this O-line up against about any in the state. Losing them to graduation will be our biggest issue next year. I still want a "better" non-conference game--or two regardless of who we lose.1 point

North Vermilion @ Attica - Give me the Red Ramblers, if for no other reason than they actually input their stats into Max preps before week 9. 33-14 The Woofs @ The little rubbers - The Woofs need this game badly. A win this week would likely secure them a 5-4 season or at least a chance to get to 5 wins before they finish with RP and FC to end the year..... ouch AND woof!!! Its hard to predict if Covington's record is an indication of their schedule strength, or they are for real. I like Covington's 1-2 punch in their backfield and their ability to score points and don't believe PH can keep up. 34-20 Covington Seeger @ Fountain Central - GAME OF THE WEEK or YEAR in the WRC. I actually think the QB from Seeger could be the best in the conference based on the year he's had. Some could argue it could be QB 1 at Covington, who's stats are outstanding. Hell, I'm sure the RP staff would argue that Little Sanders is the best based on his team's record and how he runs the offense. The former Herbies vs the current Herbies. Coach King has 43 wins between the two schools and only 6 of those are against teams that finished the season with a winning record. FC has a great chance to get him another W this week, and the losing team is behind the 8-ball looking up at the conference standings. Give me the Patriots. 24-17 South Vermilion @ The Tenderloins - If the football Gods have one small act to bless on this game, please make it rain. My 10-day forecast shows a slight chance of rain Friday in that area. We've also yet to hear from our sources at the National Weather Service to determine if SV has tried to move the game to a new date yet. Battle for the Milk Can? I don't believe this is a battle at all. 60-0 RP1 point

I was impressed with Mishawaka in 2022 & 2023. I felt like they played as well as they possibly could against a better opponent. Hard to find fault in them during those years. Last year East Noble was playing at a very high level during the playoffs. So no shame in losing that game either. I can't speak to there performances prior to that. Or 6 or 7 if he were there ten years. Fifteen years ago, I would have said 9. He'd be down to 6 or 7 with the emergence of programs like Brownsburg or Center Grove.1 point

I don't disagree. I think most of the NIC schools would like to see Penn leave in Football, which actually open it up as a small school conference and they could bring back some of the smaller schools that left. If Penn left in all sports then I think the more natural route would be head west to the DAC, I think Elkhart may try to squeeze into the NLC, if not they may tag along with Penn as a package deal. At this point idk if the DAC would even be interested in Penn and Elkhart. I think the SAC bigger schools would be interested in teaming up in a conference. SAC Big - Penn, Elkhart, Snider, Carroll, Dwenger, Homestead and Northrop that is a decent division (worst case you go to Ft. Wayne 3 times in the regular season). 6 conference games 3 non. Penn gets to keep Mishawaka and Valpo on their schedule and could go search after a game with another DAC school (CP or Mville) or head south and do a meet and greet with Westfield, HSE or Fishers.1 point

I’ll say HH by ~20. I respect Nick Hart and his program a whole lot. But HH is on a different level this year.1 point

They played Goshen. That is like claiming that Penn is back because they have held their last three opponents to 20 points total while scoring 165....They played Riley, Washington and Marian. That isn't a pat on the back. They took care of business like they were supposed to. Mishawaka lost credibility when they crapped away a 16-0 lead over Penn and lost by 6. No team from North Central Indiana should be taken seriously right now. Concord on down, we are all paper tigers until I am proven otherwise.1 point

NV vs Attica - Crabtree out schemes the Ramblers. 28-13 NV PH vs Covington - This is a toss up for me, but Im going to go 33-27 Covington Seeger vs FC - If Foxworthy is playing Ill take FC 34-20 SV vs RP - RP by 1001 point

NV @ Attica - Battle for last place. I don't see a lot of points being scored in this one. Attica will play harder and double their win total. Attica 20 NV 13 PH @ Covington - I saw Covington is 4-1 for the first time in 35 years. I don't think they will have a problem with the Wolves. PH will be hungry after the loss to Seeger last week but it won't be enough. Covington wins 32-20 Seeger @ FC - Battle for second place. I have also heard that Foxworthy played last week. I don't think it matters because FC is just better upfront and defensively than Seeger is. FC wins 35-20 SV @ RP - After the slow start against the Falcons last week I think the Panthers will come out rolling. I heard they sat several starters just to rest last week. The are the #1 team in the state for a reason. Sanders and company will take out their anger from the game that was rained out year. Panther win 72-61 point

How are we in week 6 already?.. Looks like there is a clear cut favorite to win the conference and possibly make a deep run in the state tournament. North Vermillion @ Attica- I think this is a week that Coach Dean gets his second win of the year. From what I seen the Falcons played the Panthers physical last week they just didn't have the dudes to keep up. I think that this will be either a defensive battle or an offensive shootout. Attica 20 NV 12 The Woofs @ The Trojans- PH got a little snap back to reality last week against Seeger with their only points coming off of a safety. I knew it wouldn't be long before their "magical run" would be over. The Trojans are winning some games. Coach Wheeler has those dudes playing hard and they are getting in a groove. I think Covington plays harder than PH and will out physical them in this game. Trojans 30 Woofs 12 Seeger @ FC- Game of the week. This is going to be the battle to determine who comes in second and third in the conference. Seeger has a lot more athletes than FC does but after seeing FC play the Panthers in week 1 of conference play I think they are better up front. Is Foxworthy back? If so @ThePrince is going to take FC by 60+. I think this is going to be a close game but I am going to take Herb and his crew. FC 34 Seeger 22 SV @ The Panthers- Not sure how the Panthers only scored 48 points on the Falcons... maybe they play their young guys early. This is an old school rivalry that has a lot of tension between the two schools. Not sure of Coach Miller and the Mildcats have what it takes to beat the Panthers. Coach Sanders will have the Panthers ready to roll for this Wabash River Rivalry. RP 63 SV 121 point

Tough one to call here. The Titans should be very eager to win this one, especially since they won't get another crack at them in the sectionals this year. No need to hold anything back. This might be the closest game the Patriots have until semistate but I still think they come out on top. I will take the Patriots by two scores.1 point

Seems like it was a mixture of penalties, injuries, and the elements. Central attacked their weaknesses. Spread them out, pressed their buttons, baited penalities, etc. The 2nd half after the delay went really quick. I think after their RB exited with an injury on a cheap shot, they played it very conservative and just tried to get out of there. Even heard when they tried to get out of there Central tried starting a fight after the handshakes which caused a big conglomerate. That rivalry still burns like a fire but it's just not pretty to sit by and watch anymore 🫣1 point

I have no real dog in the fight, but wow that's a lot of disdain for them lol. They passed for almost 400 yards on Chatard's defense, I don't know how that doesn't impress you. While I agree that Merrillville is probably better, Jeff was up like 34-7 against Michigan City at halftime, it wasn't a close game. If you want to use the transitive property, Plainfield squeaked out a 7 point home win over Harrison while Jeff beat them by 21 and you have Plainfield above them. They must have been pretty overrated when they beat undefeated Crown Point by double digits on the road in sectionals a couple years ago as well1 point

Snider just seems to beat Luers every year, doesn't seem to matter who's up and who's down. Snider just wins that game. Not a slight on Luers. The Knights could beat Carroll one week, then lose to Snider the next. Just the way it's been for 5 decades.1 point

East beat New Albany 49-28 and only led 21-14 at the half. Pitiful performance by East when New Albany’s biggest offensive output prior to tonight was 14 points. Floyd Central and BNL will steamroll us.1 point

Moving the U to the offensive backfield sacrifices certain coverages which a 6, 7, or 8 man crew can make up for much more easily than a 5 man crew.1 point

The other way this could be an issue is if they are doing this with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down and one of the ineligible numbers was replaced by an eligible number (replace 63 with 36). On those downs you can only have one number exception. In my example, 36 is the exception. The other part of the rule is the numbering exception in that case has to be the snapper. By definition, the exceptions are interior players so 36 is the exception and not 13. So basically you can only do a swinging gate on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down if you have 5 ineligible numbers like the original formation. A FG scrimmage kick formation is likely only to be used for a FG attempt on those downs for a last second attempt at the end of the half. A team is very unlikely to use a swinging gate in those situations. For those old enough to remember the coach in Colorado who came up with the A-11 offense. That was the cause of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd down numbering exception. The A11 would have all 11 players on offense with eligible numbers. The snapper would get on the ball, but the other 10 players would start off the line with the QB lined up 10 yards behind the LOS. Before the snap, 6 of the players would shift to the LOS, get set for a second and then run a play. The formation met the definition of s scrimmage kick formation (punt version) so they could use any number of numbering exceptions. It created a lot of confusion because the defense didn't know until right before the snap who would be eligible by position. They were a smaller team playing larger teams so it was a way for them to be competitive. The rules committee felt they were exploiting the intent of the rule so they changed the rule to not allow a team to run the A-11 offense. But that change has confused a lot of officials. They think the snapper always has to be an interior lineman.1 point
