Lafayette Jeff: Pat Shanley, early 30's LCC's DC: Max Goodin should be an excellent HC at some point North Judson: Brett Lambert : 1st year HC, Sectional Champion Curt Funk: Mississenwa : Not sure if he is considered "young" but to me he is!! K.C. Woods: Danville: Could see him eventually down the road getting into the MIC or HCC Shane Fry : West Lafayette: body of work is very impressive Joe O'Connell: River Forest: Watched River on film this year, they are starting to get their identity as well as @Bobref stated as well with Hanover Central. Both guys were together at M'ville for long time I am sure all these guys are very happy at their current spots. Just giving some love to some who earned it.4 points

Regarding the Lawrenceburg tradition... According to the late legendary coach Dick Meador...his 1977 team was better than the 1975 or 1978 team that both won championships. In 1977 an ineligible player had been discovered to have been on the team due to a clerical error. The problem was discovered in-house and turned into the IHSAA. The result was that L'burg was forced to forfeit their first 7 wins and thus did not make the playoffs that year despite finishing the season ranked #1 in the AP poll with a record of 3-7. At any rate, you can go through the Harrell lists and you won't find too many football teams with more than 19 sectional championships and 5 championship game appearances. (I am proud to say that I have attended all of them in one manner or another.)4 points

This is a good story! My doctor's son was very sick just a few years ago, needed a bone marrow transplant to help him get well. Well, the bone marrow transplant worked and he now plays football at Zionsville. His name is Camden Cooper, and he went from patient in the hospital to hero on the football field in a few short years. He caught the winning TD against Brownsburg. BTW, it was his only TD reception of the season, so far. Good luck to the Eagles Friday night!!!!3 points

There's a couple of Linton-Stockton fans (they are reminding me so much of Pioneer fans) around here that apparently don't think anyone north of Bloomington can play football so they may have prematurely written in MD as the 2A finalist but they certainly look capable of doing that. I'm a little surprised when teams like Triton Central, Western Boone, and Heritage Christian are so easily dismissed though. That may be where the "hype" statement originated from, I'm not sure. But MD is certainly a threat and I think most everyone here would agree with that.3 points

Brian Parker at Hanover Central has done a great job with that program. It's a very young program, without much in the way of tradition. I was observing at one of their games this year and you can tell when you're on the sideline that a coach either does or doesn't have organization, good assistants, and buy-in from the kids. He's got all of that. Of course, in the interests of full disclosure, I should add that he's my nephew.3 points

At $0.25/mi., I don't think so. I'll eat more than that at the concession stand. Where did you come by that picture of @Impartial_Observer?3 points

Now I get it. Thank you for the enlightening information. You create "secret plays/schemes" for the big name opponents on your schedule, run JV/Junior High stuff against the weaklings on your schedule. Kind of like Andre pulling out all the tricks when wrestling the likes of Hulk Hogan, but basically resting on his laurels while wrestling run-of-the-mill scrubs.3 points

Goheeeeeeeeen! Gonna need a monster performance out of him tomorrow! What a sweet post, Muuuuuuuda. Thought we’d get something more like Cathedral’s uniforms are so good looking from their private school privilege or something similar. The Irish-ofile you are evolving into is making me blush.3 points

It was a joke because Cathedral had at least 4 personal foul penalties called on them for no apparent reason that I know of with that crew. No reason to get butt-hurt over a joke2 points

STC is legendary... So this is funny....my daughter is a cheerleader and she has my house full of cheerleaders tonight (obviously lots of excitement among Cutler's Cuties), and in the midst of all the annoying noise I hear from the next room one of them say, "did you know that Lawerenceburg's coach dresses as some perverted male prostitute clown?" So I bust up in the room and ask if they are referring to the Stink Town Clown. "Yup, that's him!" SMH---girls, there is no way that is the coach. If it is he will likely be far to intoxicated to coach Saturday....so I was thinking why not just go ahead and fill that spot STC? Great night for a guest coaching spot!2 points

A lot of silliness, and even some bigotry, in this thread. I really appreciate the interest and I believe it's well founded. This is all about the game. It is one of the most anticipated games in quite awhile. I hope it's a good time for both sides. That being said, these are the kind of games that young men come to Cathedral to play football. Win or lose, and I hope it's win, I hope the Irish play their best, no excuses! It's been a fun season so far and tomorrow will continue to be fun, at least from my viewpoint. I have expectations but I'll keep them to myself. GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2 points

“The Line of Disrespect” - One of the pithiest and, yet, most astute observations/questions I have ever seen on the GID. I would suggest that there is probably another line somewhere around Lafayette based on certain other Northerly grumbles I have heard over the years as well. For the record, Tango, consider that phrase stolen.2 points

I think I should be considered. I'm under 40 and am currently 8-2 in fantasy football this season. I've had a few weeks where I was the underdog, but pulled off the upset...some people in the league say I have wisdom beyond my years.2 points
-
That's funny because there have been times the feeling down here was that people north of Bloomington didn't think anyone south of Bloomington could play ball.. Which begs an interesting question, why is the "line of disrespect" Bloomington? I'm still confused on the whole "hype" thing. Who is hyping MD besides the folks down here who feel they are a solid team and capable of making a nice tournament run?2 points

Ah, come on RoadRunner! You know HH has never, ever committed a single flaggable violation in any game I've ever called, while the opposition is guilty of at least one on every play!!! Seriously, though, I appreciate the kind words and accept the mild criticism as well. Always trying to improve! Btw, thanks for siccing BobRef on me! Now I'll spend all game looking over my shoulder for flags on my broadcast!2 points

There hasn't been much hype around Mater Dei since the Schiffs broke every state passing record in the late 90s and 2000s. But Mater Dei doesn't need hype to be one of the Top 3 2A teams year in and out. They are extremely disciplined, conditioned, and well coached. When they get a stud or two, it's an automatic state finals birth. Cover the seams and flats while trying to contain a physical running attack is the difficulty in defending them. Defensively, they will bend and count on you to break. Solid special teams. It's a formula that has worked for one of the best coaches ever to step on the field in Indiana.2 points

I was the quarterback on that team...and YES, we RARELY threw the ball, but it was our ONLY option as our running game was stuffed in the 1st half. Besides winning such a thrilling game, the second best memory of that game was after. The SB Tribune and The NW Indiana Times asked Coach Smith and myself to stick around in our "makeshift locker room" by the football field (it was a garage). We were both interviewed about the game and walked out of the garage expecting the school bus to be there so we could hitch a ride back to Valpo High School to change/warm up for our trip home. When we walked out we realized the bus had already went back to the school and Coach Smith and I RAN back to the high school because it was so cold. It was the ONLY time I ever saw Coach Smith run. Side Note: Coach Smith was and is one of the all-time greatest men to ever coach in Indiana!2 points

Lip, I played against that ‘77 Tiger team for Brookville and the late HOF Coach Joe Codiano. We played that game at Brookville. Both Lawrenceburg and Brookville were undefeated at the time and both were ranked - I believe it was probably 5-6th game of the season. Tigers were No. 1 and the Greyhounds were No.4-6 (can’t remember....and didn’t even know they ranked HS teams until I saw it in the paper) in a bigger class per the Enquirer. Since Southeast Indiana wasn’t exactly rife with a lot of ranked teams it got good coverage in the Cincy Enquirer and they (apparently) had a reporter and photographer there. We ran the Houston veer offense and passed maybe 2-3 times per game. We had been getting stuffed the whole game and, in ABSOLUTE desperation, I was sent downfield on a streak route and somehow miraculously ended up catching (probably) a 60 yd pass. I thought I was in the clear but the safety for the Tigers ran me down like I was running through concrete. Ended up being the longest single gain we had that night, I believe. I also, had an open field tackle of Bryan Way (?) that ended up as a feature picture of the game in the Enquirer that my Mom still has in an old scrapbook (probably the only tackle I had in the game). We were beat soundly that night - can’t remember the final score. That was one helluva Tiger team, though. We were pretty solid and they laid waste to us. Found out 2-3 weeks afterwards that Lawrenceburg had to forfeit the game and we were (at least technically) undefeated. We were 9-0 the last game at Aurora - at Aurora HS’s last football game ever. If we won, we were in the playoffs (however they figured them in those days). We lead the whole game and through some bad decisions and equally bad execution found ourselves up 2 points with seconds left on the clock after Aurora had scored late on a desperation heave. I was a corner when I bit on the wrong que and my assignment got a 2 point conversion and sent it into OT. Furious, Coach yanked me out in OT. They ran the exact same play in OT against my sub and scored easily....winning the game. No playoffs. Long bus ride home. Season over. Funny thing is, I can’t hardly remember anything about the other 8 games we won that year. Yeah, I remember the ‘77 EIAC season like it was yesterday. Apologies for the digression.2 points

That game was NOT a fluke. Yes 2 Offensive lineman went out early and yes the RB was not 100%, but even if they would not have gone out it still wouldn't have mattered. The game was riddled with 5 turnovers by the Irish and they were forced into many mistakes throughout by a stout Columbus East defense. Columbus East played more physical and faster, Cathedral's defense ran into a buzz-saw, I think Major and Hogan are still running for TD's. Definitely was not a fluke and Columbus East without a doubt was the better team on the field. I wouldn't call them a Catholic troll. A troll yes. There seems to be a few on this thread constantly trying to stir stuff up Darn Trojans! Can't you control your peeps!! lol2 points

No fun down there! His buddy is all business , when he has spare time. You've noticed the unemployment rate, across the board, ages , races? Stock market, still breaking records, and the several flushes in the capitol and several more to come in the next five years, big water closet in that area .I think Loogootee might be a lot more to his liking for fun.1 point

I watched the first half of the McCutcheon and Harrison game. I was really impressed with the fullback. Running back made me nervous but I see he is done for the year, feel bad for him. Not to impressed with the passing game. Dwenger will be picking those high floating passes off. Now it was hard to really hard to tell how good Harrison is.. I will be honest, I thought McCutcheon was bad. I DON'T know for sure. But the O-line was slow and missed a lot of blocks. The defense was not that fast either. I feel like the speed of the SAC and the physical play will be the difference. We say at BD, " people come to hear us play!"1 point

Actually, I would say better from top to bottom than last year. Last year it was just Memorial and Central for the most part. This year Memorial, Central, Mater Dei & Castle were the top 4, then North & Reitz. Bosse was better. Harrison was the only guaranteed win IMO. Mooresville is bigger than anyone in SIAC. They are also athletic. Central is probably more explosive than Mooresville, but they aren't as big.1 point

In regards to the “whine” comment, keep in mind the reality for most smaller schools is they simply do not have an extra few thousand $ in the budget, hence the “whining”. Many, if not most, small school sports programs lose money and rely on "revenue" sports like football, basketball, etc. to generate the extra funds needed to support their other programs. 60 players would likely require 30 rooms, plus rooms for coaches & support staff, including chaperones, etc. Using an $75 avg cost per room, add a couple of meals for ~ 70 people @ $10 each and the costs have already risen past $4,000, not including buses, fuel, and other misc costs. That is not an insignificant amount to many small school athletic dept budgets.1 point

We haven't played a team that with throw the ball like Eastside will. Alexandria threw the ball a lot but they aren't even close to being on Eastsides level. Tipton tossed the ball around some but that was with a second string QB. We will be tested this week to just see how good our pass D is.1 point

I don't think I've used the term "bush league". In 2008 & 2009 we played the early game as the 3A school (1A & 2A were on Friday night and there was no 6A). In 2017 & 2018 we played at 2:30 CST, which was the second game of the day in both cases. We could have driven up in the morning the last 2 years, but a long bus ride takes its toll and lack of proper place to have pregame meal for a group of 80+ is a logistical challenge. Be it far from me to characterize any decision of the fine folks at the IHSAA as "bush."1 point
