  3. Coach Roden was there 2 years, not 1 Absolutely NOT the case. Coaches will continue to have privacy on here when it comes to job interviews. You have no idea any circumstances of reasons why any coach would interview for any job. Scenario: (made up for any Bombers out there) Coach Nowlin interviews for Noblesville, Coach Nowlin doesn't get the job but was a finalist, random internet posters on a message board find out that Coach Nowlin has interviewed for another job and now because someone wanted to leak this information without Coach Nowlin's permission, Coach Nowlin has to get bombarded with questions from his current job. THAT IS INCREDIBLY UNFAIR PRACTICE for HIGH SCHOOL COACHES. END OF STORY, been that way FOREVER and that will not change.

  4. Interesting. Football fans enjoy football at all levels.

  5. Kudos to Noblesville for making that statement, incredibly disheartening that the statement had to be made in the first place

  6. That’s not a call you want to nitpick. Proper way to handle it when they push the limit is for the wing official to communicate with the coach and tell him they need to move up a bit.

  7. That was interesting reading. Looking at some history, Hazlitt passed away in 1993. While corporate scams did exist back then, my guess is the version/interpretation of capitalism that conservatives in power have brought on us would be criticized heavily by Hazlitt if he were alive today. While reading more about him, he also support a higher level of responsibility for business owners and employers to pay their employees well enough that the need to unionize would never be an issue. Even when I spent a Summer working in the warehouse for Lilly’s, the workers there refused to unionize. The pay and benefits at that time were better than what union people were being paid in similar jobs. I also know that the Teamsters were trying hard to get their foot in the door. My guess is that Hazliitt and Lilly were cut from the same cloth. I am not sure if Lilly employees are still treated with such regard in this day and age or not. One question I have regarding this then, is the alternative having the “right to work” laws in place? Another question.....he advocates in the article having laws in place that forbid picketing. His goal is to return to a point in time in this country where the federal government is less involved in local issues. So if laws were in place that would forbid picketing, wouldn’t that be federal overreach as well? While punishments and fines are recommended as well, are they really enforceable? If tomorrow, we see 90% of airline pilots picketing, would they actually be fined? Or even fired? If so, say they holdout until the fines are lifted? Or if they are fired, then what? Hire scabs?

  8. Sometimes I think the guys in the back just get bored. My guess is the guy (and I say guy because no gal would ever) manning the Chyron generator was just having a little fun. When we generated hazardous wastes I had to write up some incredibly long boring manuals that no one would ever read and they had to be submitted to IDEM for review. I used to slip some stuff in the middle of that just for my amusement.

  12. I think I figured out who your Head Coach is! Is it Coach McGrath? So which episode were you and Mrs. Irishman watching as you typed this? Love the references!! I am going to have to incorporate Green Acres into one! Great post!

  14. It appears this is boiling down to a matter of perspective. If you want to post that you think Coach Jethro would be a great fit at Clampett HS, that is one thing and is fine as far as speculating goes. We have only asked to avoid the conversations along the lines of, a friend close to Coach Jethro said he is REALLY interested in the position at Campett, and is ready to leave Bugtussle HS. The AD at Bugtussle has no clue his coach is looking. Another scenario similar to the one above.....Coach Drysdale is the current coach at Clampett, but now the rumor gets out that the AD might talk to Jethro. As far as Kentucky goes, we do have an example......a Coach from this State moves down there, but decides to start looking back home. The AD in Ky finds out; confronts the coach. Coach confirms that he is just exploring the idea. AD then says you are done here then. We are not a stepping stone program.

  15. DT - I am currently an assistant coach at a school in Central Indiana that has had decent success in the last few seasons...enough success that our current head coach would likely have the resume to apply for other jobs if he happened to be motivated to coach at a bigger school and/or desired a more established program. Our coach is 100% in the right to apply to any job in which he is motivated to go after. I honestly have no idea if he has applied to other jobs this offseason or previous offseasons. With complete certainty though, if it were to be publicized in our community that he was actively seeking another job, it would cripple his current program and impact his family's status within their small town community....and also impact relationship with staff he is leaving or could potentially leave. Imagine if he actively sought another job and had to have it publicized for a couple offseasons in a row....that wouldn't be fair to anyone. Keep as much as the decision making process in house. It is up to the individual applicant to disclose information they feel others need to know whether it be family, current administration, coaching staff, etc...It is not up for any of those people to decide who gets to know. I appreciate the policy of these admin and know TA would be proud!!

  16. It is a great relief to come to these boards and not deal with all the rumors and garbage that takes place in so many other places on the internet. The Kentucky high school football message boards are like this. Tons of speculative threads. I can't imagine it helping any situation, particularly the person of note in the topics. It is more than likely damaging on some level. Unfortunately, rumors started online can have grave effects on people's jobs and careers. Kudos the the Gridiron team for keeping this forum clean.

  20. Irishman referenced the first play of the game at the 8:35 mark of the video. Here is 2 and 7. Second play of the game. I certainly don’t see a plane drawn from the waist of the center through the other linemen. You can call it nitpicky, but if I think a team is pushing the limit to gain a competitive advantage, it would frustrate me. I would rather you say ‘We’re not going to call it because they do it every play’ than try to tell me I’m not seeing what I am seeing.

  25. I would agree that thought provoking questions can be asked. Minds changed.....ehhhh I don't know about that. The largely visceral interactions that have gone on via the Internet since day one do little to change minds, quite the contrary I think it only serves to entrench people deeper in the their beliefs. They tune out what they don't want to hear. As an example, I have a bunch of liberal friends on FB and they post all this political crap which I largely ignore. One day a friend makes a post about the Charlottesvile and goes on to opine that speech like this has to be silenced, it needs to be made illegal. I couldn't help myself, I had to reply. I was immediately barraged by her legion of 50 something recovering soccer moms, and several other classmates. Of course several unfriended me, which is fine, I don't determine my worth by my collection of FB friends. So my point being, no one wants to hear what they disagree with. They only want to be in an echo chamber with like minded voices. As time marches on, I see this becoming more and more the norm. As our visceral interactions online are spilling over into actual real world interactions. I think minds change over years, from various inputs, most notable wisdom and experience that comes with age.

  26. Love the offense he will bring to Noblesville. Being different will be a huge advantage for him and the Millers. Now, can he get the kids and community to buy in? That will be the hardest part in my opinion.

  32. Nobody but the Athletic administration at Noblesville will know everyone that applied. Perhaps you could call them and ask. Why is it snowflake to protect guys from undo questions and perhaps causing problems at their current jobs. I am sure, you would not like that in your world. I would suggest it is an honorable thing to protect these guys from scrutiny simply because they applied. Once they get the job, have at it.

  35. Sounds to me that this goes deeper than just missing workouts. If one of the better players was missing workouts, would he be left out of the locker room? This is a bullying issue and has less to do with not showing up for lifts. I would go straight to the head coach and make sure the issue is addressed. Sounds to me like there is an overall culture issue on that team. Ninety percent of the time, it starts with the top. Be nice, but firm at the same time.

  37. Norwell has turf now, and played on it this last season. Columbia City does not have it yet, but the new campus includes a new stadium and a turf field. They will be in their current building and on the current field one more season.
