  1. Three games in and only one team is undefeated. Regarding rankings: Philosophically there are two ways to rank teams. One is forward thinking. Which team is best if they played today and or moving forward? The other is past thinking. Which is best based on body of work? (Team A beat B who beat C) Both type of ranking systems have merit. The schedule three weeks in happens to fit in such a way that every team can be ranked with a "past looking" system in which every team can be ranked with the teams they defeated below them and the teams that beat them ranked above them. That ranking is as follows: (And for the record I prefer a forward looking ranking system) Reitz VL MD Castle North Harrison Jasper Memorial/Bosse (These two only share Central as a common opponent so no one really knows who is better.)🤣 Central

  2. Just one more thing before you and I part ways................ BTF 8-21-22 I'm not ready to anoint them as a Top 10 team after beating up on a 2a team devastated by graduation and transfers Yuccaguy 8-21-22 Carroll is NO JOKE! As for Carroll. This may be THE team that can compete well into the Semi-State from the FW Area in 6A that those in NE Indiana have been waiting for. great year for the quality of FB in FW as far as I am concerned. I am positive that they (CHS) are a TOP TEN team in that classification, easily. Summary: You have Carroll in your Top 10 "easily." I don't have them in my Top 10 at all. But to appease you, I'll "stop being so LOCAL in my deference to things."

  3. Westfield is on the same level as Carmel based upon my observations. Play nice, everyone.

  4. Did some research on student population growth and ranking among HHC schools. As you can see in the charts below, East and Jeff have pretty much stayed the same over the past decade. Floyd Central is growing and Seymour is booming. On the flip side, New Albany and BNL are shrinking while Jennings County is really shrinking. On the table below, the ‘11/‘12-‘12/‘13 classification cycle doesn’t have a population number with it because I couldn’t go back that far on the IHSAA website. It only shows the rankings for that cycle. Each cycle after that contains the student population and rank, as well as the percent change from the previous cycle. The final column shows the percent change from ‘13/‘14-‘14/‘15 to now.

  5. The problem isn’t Facebook. The problem is the officials who let it happen. If everyone applied the rule correctly, it would go away. The only reason we see it is because it works … sometimes. It’s like the 4th down and 6 quick shift in punt formation drawing the defense into encroaching. It’s actually a foul on the kicking team. But sometimes crews let it go, and that just encourages coaches to keep trying it.

  7. Good to see some spirited conversation about this game. Catholics vs. Catholics is never easy. I do hope the Irish are healthier than last week. Lots of good players didn't play. Although it did give some young players a chance to get some valuable experience.

  8. I think Ben Davis wins this one. Center Grove 17 - Ben Davis 28 Two main reason best CG RB injured and CG Pass defense. When CG 1000 yard RB from last year went down for the year CG run game took a big hit so they moved one of their best and most experience defensive players to RB which is another loss on the defensive side of the ball. Is this a bad sign for CG future running game that there was not a young RB ready to step up? CG Pass defense IMO is average at best they gave up 353 yards to Carmel and I suspect they will have similar problems against Ben Davis.

  9. I posted this in the NLC thread, but wanted to give it more visibility as it's own topic for others to appreciate on this forum. I know it's only through 3 weeks of the season and Warsaw's 70 point performance against a woeful Plymouth has this statistic skewed a bit. HOWEVER, I find it awesome that both Warsaw and Mishawaka are leading class 6A and 5A, respectively, in scoring offense running that Triple - Midline - Toss / "Bart Ball" style of offense. Just goes to show you don't have to be a high flying offense to score a lot of points on that side of the ball!

  12. I’m excited to see how good this VL team is. sectional 30 is going to be really interesting because of it its also the only chance GS has at facing a SIAC opponent this year haha

  13. boneheaded move? Absolutely was it called a penalty? Absolutely is it still funny seeing 150lb kid Superman from the top rope to get his first pancake of the year? Absolutely

  14. Pike missed a big play in the first quarter to a wide open receiver. I wonder how that might have changed the game. As it stood, BD was in control in the game, and it might have been worse if not for a couple of penalties by BD. I don't see any way Pike beats Carmel. The Hounds win 28-0. Ben Davis looks poised to finally end the long losing streak to CG. The Trojans still have won 30-straight over Indiana teams, but I feel like the Giants with Tommy G and Alijah Price and the stout defense turn the tide and snap the seven game skid. Gladly will eat my crow if I'm wrong. BD 35, CG 21 Warren still hasn't flipped the switch and played a 48 minute football game. LC is just creeping and creeping and creeping towards respectability. Will Patterson has done an amazing job. LC beats Warren, 21-20 LN needs this one. NC catching them on the rebound here might be an opportunity. We saw some life out of the Panthers against Warren. I think this one is more of a dogfight than many believe. LN wins in the end, 17-7.

  15. Week 4 in the NLC and still no clear cut favorite to win it. I am going to guess it will be a shared title...possibly by more than two teams. One big suprise thus far (for me...maybe not others) is the play of the Northridge Raiders! I really thought it would be a down year for them...boy was i wrong. They took Mishawaka to the wire and i really thought their defense was outstanding against the ground and pound of Mishawaka...at Mishawaka. Northridge has moved up to be a favorite to share the NLC title as I dont think any teams will run the table in conference play. Here are my predictions for this Friday Mishawaka V. Goshen: I like what I am seeing from Goshen this year. They are being competitive and making improvements each week. Things are looking up for their future. That being said...I dont think it will take long for Mishawaka to pull away. I could see this game getting ugly for the Redskins...I mean Redhaws. Mishawaka by 28. NorthWood V. Northridge: Im not real sure why this game was scheduled at Northridge rather than at NorthWood as NorthWood was away last year as well. I dont mind as Northridge has excellent facilities...other than having to walk about 4 miles to get to the visitors stands. After watching NorthWood throw the ball about 5 million times to their outstanding recievers (Filley returned from injury) last week, teams had better have an outstanding secondary. I know Northridge has a good defense, im just not sure they have seen a passing game like NorthWood has this year. That will be the key to this game as I do know Northridge can defend the run. NorthWood's defense has suprised me as I thought their front...3...or whatever they are playing (it changes every play) would struggle. Most of the points scored against them were bombs thrown by opposing QBs. I think this game will be close...in the begining of the game. I can see Northwood pulling away later in the game and Northridge having to pass alot and attempt to play catch up. Northwood by 17. Warsaw V. Concord: Im not sure if Warsaw is that good or Plymouth is that bad. Warsaw completly destroyed Plymouth in all aspects of last weeks game. I dont know if Plymouth will be close in any games this year. After watching Concord play last week, i dont think they will give Warsaw much of a problem. Concord has some size and they did a good job of stopping NorthWoods run game, i just dont think they have enough to slow down Warsaw's offense. Warsaw by 28 Wawasee V. Plymouth: Well...here is the game both teams have been waiting for as someone will have to win. This could actually be a good game. Wawasee played better last week...not good...but better. Plymouth...well...they did not. I really hope the fellas stick with it down there. I fear years like this and last are going to have long term effects for their already struggling program. The boys in Syracuse should win this one...but i have hopes Plymouth will make it competative. Wawasee by 10. (Side note: Unpopular opinion...I was at the blueberry festival this past weekend down in Plymouth...and the bluberry doughnuts are overrated...i said what i said!)

  17. After week 1 of conference play I think that my rankings were off a little bit..... Covington @ FC - This will be a close one if FC can slow down Covington offense. Watching FC last week I'm not sure they can score a ton of points. King gets his first FC win 26-20 PH @ Attica - PH wins 35-12 RP @ Seeger - Before week one I would've thought this would be a good game... After watching RP last week I think they win this one by a couple scores. RP 32 Seeger 14 SV @ NV - Game of the week. I don't know if defensively NV can slow down SV, but NV can score a ton of points. I think this will be a high scoring game and a fun one to watch. NV 42 SV 38

  21. What is going on in the EIAC? No Clown. No Trojan. No Boom. No Dog. No Stewy. No Honda. No JoJos. No Rhymes. No BLs. The Grid just hasn't been the same in 2022. And oh yeah, Sparty is 3-0! Somebody get Stink out of the dumpster, the GRID is too serious.

  23. How does Castle deserve the second spot when they just lost to MD and were outgained by almost 200 yards? I think VL should be 2 with MD 3 and Castle 4.

  27. I could get on board with something similar to this but I think you are still underestimating Westfield. Why the gap between HSE and Fishers? Probably a bad metric but both teams beat a common opponent (NC) by similar margin. I think this would be a pick ‘em game.

  30. Maybe being too kind on them (and CG to some extent). Their dominance over the second (first now) best conference over the last two seasons probably clouds my vision a bit. Need to see them lose an HCC game before I drop them considerably. As for your second point, I still believe the top seven (maybe eight) could be thrown into a hat at this stage.
