  1. I know. Just waiting for the IHSAA to do the right thing and success-factor Center Grove to Ohio.

  2. I encourage everyone to go and take a look at a little 1A public school team in Pittsburgh (Aliquippa) that voluntarily plays at the 3A level. They have won multiple 3A titles and, after being success factored up to 4A, won another state title. They were on the verge of being success factored up again to 5A (6A is the largest PA classification). They were prepared to sue the state to keep them at 4A. Again, this is a 1A public school. They also have 3 former players who are in the NFL HOF. This is a town and school that lives and breathes football. It permeates the culture. Nearly every kid dreams of playing for the HS team from the time they can understand what it means. This is a school of about 120 kids (boys and girls combined) playing and winning at 4A. Success factor works until it doesn’t. There will always be people with a good case for why any system is “unfair” (hint: nothing is perfect). The Aliquippa story is why I will continuously shake my head and laugh when people want to use success factor to punish teams while not looking inward at their programs to see what is broken. Again, this is a public school. Single A. Punches well above its weight. Why? Take some time and read up on them. What you will find is that it is 100% because of the kids drive and desire to be champions even against the toughest of odds. Even if you think I am a buffoon for my reasoning (you won’t be the first and my feeling won’t be hurt), read up on this school and team, it’s a great story.

  3. This game should be dubbed the Success Factor Bowl. Memorial is still 4A due to the upset win in 2021 vs East Central. This year East Central could secure a 5A spot next year with a win.

  4. You mean to tell me there wasn't something in the water to produce 7 footers north of Fort Harrison State Park?

  5. Firstly, despite Memorial causing me to lose extremities in a freezing 2008 loss and then squashing the dreams of my kid back in 2009….and just generally doing it to every Chatard team they have played the last 15 years, I’m a huge fan of Memorial. In part, as a massive underdog, I was rooting for Memorial against Reitz. After watching the game I felt even more strongly about that. With that, Southeast Indiana is the Rodney Dangerfield of Indiana HS football - NO RESPECT. Everybody NE, NW and SW p!sses and moans about not getting any respect. These are generally big@ss populations (I observe as a small town kid) crying about this….50-250,000 populations feeding into the various schools. Just check out southeast Indiana. 20 squirrels, 10 deer and a school bus driving 3 miles between pickups on a gravel road. East Central is basically a P.O. Box that gets checked once a week. And yet they are probably able to play Ben Davis and Center Grove within an inch of their lives this year. Their easy win over Moeller v. Center Grove’s OT win seems to justify that. That said, being the sole default Indiana suburb (other than Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn) for Cincinnati doesn’t hurt. That considered, I really don’t think that has any d@mn thing to do with it. They just kick whatever @ss is put in front of them. Still…love you guys at Memorial….

  6. Hell yeah they are, I picked them to beat Valpo. Now, Snider gets to play a team with 80 D-1 players…

  7. Don't know if WLFI Friday Night Frenzy was on site for the end of LCC game or if the MaxPreps highlights will have it, but hit of the night in the LCC/LaVille game comes courtesy of LCC punter Ray Clayton. In waning moments of the game, Clayton punts a ball that goes stright up into in the air and maybe 10-15 yards past LOS. Ball hits the ground and rolls back toward LOS eventually getting back to LOS in what appears like it's going to be a net zero punt. LaVille player sees an opportunity to grab the ball and perhaps run it back for a last-minute LaVille score with just the punter between him and the TD. Clayton squares up and absolutely drops the kid with a decleater which resulted in an injury time out. Probably a metaphor for LCC defensive importance tonight.

  8. Snider played a bad half last year, played a great second half last year. Snider moved ball between the 20 tonight but couldn't get the TD's. I think they played better game last year. Passing D got burned.

  9. If EC wasn't going to get bumped after winning 4A again, I would say we should voluntarily bump to 5A...

  10. But that doesn't fit the public school fans' narrative. They'll tell you it's only the p/p schools that recruit.

  13. Well hello Lysander, my old friend.... great to hear from you! That's some good stuff....Metamora elementary....😄 Hope all is well and you're enjoying your Trojans season as much as I'm enjoying mine. You couldn't be more spot on with your earlier post about SEI....but you will not hear anyone from the EIAC complain, we're happy to stay under the radar. EC will be rebuilding next season, so assuming they move to 5A.....they will likely take some lumps in the post season.

  27. FlyingHigh didnt respond, but they lost 5 seniors one being the QB but the next man in filled the slot perfectly. I think the offense is not as explosive but the defense especially the secondary is much improved from last year. Beat Lutheran? probably not but possible. will be similar to the first matchup than the last

  33. That's an easy solution actually. Look at the previous four years of Success Points for a team. Throw out the highest point total and the lowest point total. The remaining two point totals are your Median Points. Use those to determine classification (if the goal is to keep the current system relatively in place).

  36. Her senior year Seymour lead the whole game, Jeff hits a couple of free throws with about three seconds to go to take the lead. They got the ball to my kid because she had the best speed and she heaves a Hail Mary from about mid court with two defenders…..and the one defender just kills her. So she’s going to the line down two with no time and three shots. And the moron assistant gets a T. You just let her off the hook! Then refuses to leave and throws her clipboard on the floor. Seymour wins by like 5. Just how they roll man. And personally I wanted to see how she performed under that pressure.

  37. Just hoping the Irish don't try 4 onside kicks in the same game again. Maybe giving the D a chance with a king field will help them even more. See you there. Sam's Silver Circle for pre-game from 4-6p on your way south.

Starting this week and continuing until the end of the season, the Top 100 will be listed in their state playoff schedule. 44. There's "recruiting" when you are marketing your school to convince local students to choose you over other P/P options. And then there's "recruiting" when you are speaking directly to a specific student that also happens to be a good athlete. Northside CYO kids can decide between Guerin, Brebuef, Chatard, Cathedral. So all of those schools have to market directly to local grade schools and convince kids why their school is the best option in order to fill their classrooms.
