  1. Tend to agree in principle. The top of 3A was definitely better than the top of 4A last year. Whether that is the case this year remains to be seen. It’s still way, way early..... Automatic deference to 4A teams is problematic to me particularly when historic powers in 4A (Cathedral, CE and Dwenger) and the “relatively” new power in 4A (New Pal) are all now in 5A.......4A just ain’t what it used to be. The inference is that the second tier teams in 4A (if 4A was unaffected by the Success Factor) are better than the upper end 3A teams - which hasn’t been the case historically and seems doubly incorrect now in light of the fact that 3A is (or has been the last few years) probably the best class pound for pound. West Lafayette is likely either at or near the top of this ranking. They lost a hard fought game to 6A Lafayette Jeff who may be a top 10 team in the State. This loss somehow makes WL 7th in this grouping? No way. I find it ironic that in the other thread about the overall rankings it has now (finally) become accepted (even popular) to say that New Pal, as a team almost 1/4 the size of the largest schools in the State, could be the best team in the State (not sure I am there yet this year, personally, but I have argued almost alone in years past that I believed they were the best team in the state - just too early to tell so far) yet we fall back into the same old fallacy that 4A is always better than 3A, 3A is always better than 2A, etc...

  3. Being realistic would be noticing the team is 2-0 outscoring their 2 opponents 70-14. They can't control if the opposing team is going to play bad or good they just play and if the opposing team is bad then they have done exactly what they needed to. I have yet to see a High School, College, or even Professional team play a perfect game. Every team makes mistakes they can find on film and work to correct. My point is being positive of the team you are a parent of is much better than inciting negativity towards the team. I've seen the call out of specific units and coaches on your posts. Stay positive and give encouragement.

  8. Somehow I went 6-0 on NLC predictions last week, but somehow forgot to pick the Concord/ Memorial winner. This week should start to give us a better picture of who will finish where in the conference this year. I still like Warsaw at #1, but beyond that I see it as a 4 team race for #2. (Northwood, Concord, Plymouth, and Northridge) Heard Plymouth got banged up in the Kokomo game, anyone know how significantly that might affect them this week and moving forward? Still really liking our run game this year, and each week our defense has stepped up and made some crucial stops that changed the momentum of the game.

  10. Coach Gaddis was a teacher of mine at Pike. I didn't play football, but he saw talent and passion in me for this sport (and for sports) and encouraged me to pursue a path of sports journalism. I was considering it anyway, but that helped validate that career choice. We've had the chance to catch up when New Pal plays Columbus East, and he's absolutely a first-class coach and person. Those are both guys I'd run through a wall for. Two coaches who do things the right way. There's a TON of mutual respect between these two programs.

  11. No offense, but you have yourself listed as a Cathedral parent. I've yet to see a positive post about the Cathedral football team (with the exception of the WR trio). As a parent shouldn't you be at least somewhat positive when your team is 2-0 and has outscored their opponents 70-14. I mean weren't you the one who more or less ripped the Irish secondary? The same secondary that just had 1 player with 3 picks (1 a pick 6) in a game? Perhaps a little more encouragement and positivity for the team could go a long way.

  12. Then state your case for a small school! I’m not seeing any that are worthy of being top 15 material. You kind of made the case for classes in your response.

  16. They could have been 6-0 and claimed a co-HHC championship (as I’m sure BNL or NA or any other school would do. But we’d all know the truth about who the conference champion was. 😬

  17. I'll reserve judgment on Chatard until we see how they do against Cathedral, Southport, and then Terre Haute North and Bloomington South at the end of the year. But they're probably at least knocking on the door of the top 15, as is Michigan City.

  19. I was in Oregon last week and took a break from the GID only to come back to some smack talk on the Week 2 thread. Love it! Love the delusional confidence from the MG fan. I know he doesn't speak for the Argyll faithful as a whole but I've got to admit, I'm still giggling at all the posturing about how MG is now a darkhorse contender for the conference bronze medal based on a couple good quarters against a down Tipton squad? Take it from me, it's much more fun to sit back and embrace the suckage. Leave that bar low and keep playing on house money until you're really ready to beat your chest at the upper crust. That's solid prep for the real world anyway. Hang with us bottom-feeders and enjoy the low hanging fruit. Big girls need love too. I mean I couldn't tell you how many Myspace posts I made about beating Wabash or Alex by 50 when I was in school. That's the good stuff right there. Also, I'll bet someone in here a cold Bud Ice from the Silver Dollar that Elwood topples at least 1 of the following teams: MG, Frankton, Alex, Oak Hill, or Blackford. Strange things happen when you start getting uppity. Conference season is here. Lets get weird.

  20. To paraphrase an old manager of mine, The guy with the striped shirt and whistle may not always be correct, but he does have the striped shirt and whistle and that makes him right! 😂😂😂 Don’t know how you guys do it and keep a sense of humor, but we appreciate you doing it.

  22. First, there is no foul called impeding a receiver. I think I know what you are asking though. Before the ball is thrown the defender may block an eligible receiver who is still a potential blocker as much as he wants. He can't illegally block him (i.e. hold, block in the back, blind side block), but he can block him. There is no 5-yard contact rule like the NFL. Once the receiver passes him or is running away from him (i.e. think crossing route) then he can no longer block him. Then it is illegal use of hands and the signal is the same as holding. Once the pass is in the air toward his direction the contact must have stopped or it turns into pass interference.

  23. Well lets see. Linton wasn't even on the Jeff page for preseason ratings. Way down there in the 37's. Cal Preps has got pretty close into this early season. Cal Preps as Linton 27-6. Harrells a much closer score. Sagarin buy a bunch. I don't buy the Sagarin rating or do I? If I were King (LOL) I would tell the Miners #3 just ta pump them up! Polls are polls but Linton is predicted win this game and Im gonna watch it on GCSN if they make the trip!

  24. From the Chicago Mayor......“60 percent of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL—mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation,” she tweeted. OK, then.......Why isn't there the same level of shootings or more in those Republican areas outside of Chicago where the guns are coming from??

  25. As you said, its way, way early. I don't know any 2-0 team down in this area who can say with a straight face they've been tested with 2 solid opponents yet.

  27. Jarts were not banned by law, the sale was banned by the Consumer Product Safety Agency. From what I can see there have been three deaths from Jarts. Originally the ban, merely banned them as being labeled as children's toys. In 1988 they were not allowed to be sold. Manufacturers have skirted the law since, but selling components separately. I did find one incident in Elkhart, IN in 1997 where a 7 year old had his skull pierced by a Lawn Dart. No word on whether he survived or not. This ban, merely bans the retail sale of Lawn Darts. If I have Jarts in my possession, men with guns are not going to come to my house and steal my legally purchased possession.

  32. Lafayette is north of Marion County and near a certain university with Black and Gold as its colors, right? This southerner doesn't know much about areas which claim to be a part of the Hoosier state north of Westfield! The sprawl is going to make it all the way to Iowa if we don't watch out. Conspiracy.

  33. I'll obviously go with Triton over Caston, as for the rest..Knox, Judson, and Winamac. Game of the week will be Pioneer-Laville. After what I saw last week, I pick Laville with the close win. They lost a lot from last year, but they sure did not look like it. I was really impressed with their speed and power. They were really laying on some hits. I know Pioneer will bring it as well. I kinda wish we had a bye or some thing this week so I could go watch this game.

  34. You may talking about Rillo our current QB. He is a pass 1st than run kind of a QB. Of course this year he will be running more with the option in the play book.

  36. @ptr Todays article in paper says coach mo wouldnt be surprised if senior rb is held out at thn game this friday. . Still no update on the big d lineman that went out ....... Paper doesnt do a good job like they used to still missing rex kirts. Looking at the stats from last friday South had over 250 yards rushing (and outgained mville in total yards) were in or near redzone a couple times without any points and the qb had those two picks . If he can get a bearing on his passing game they still could have a good year. I knew martinsville would be good this year but i expected south to be better. Had the qb had a better game and the rb and d lineman not been injured the teams would have been very close on overall strength. Martinsville was more physical and enthusiastic all the way up into the stands. Castle really went off on new albany bloomington north looks to be solid this year. Could be a tough sectional .

  37. Yes sir, you being around the block, you should surely know that Elder has zero parking. Coming from a Elder gentleman at last years game told me, if you are not there 1.5 to 2 hours early, you will be walking two miles to the stadium. 10,000 seat capacity and zero parking, not a hard equation to figure out. Not sure what the difference is if I meet you alone or with other dads. I and we want nothing more than to put the face with the name of the gentleman who feels the need to constantly put our boys down. Even calling a few out by name. That way when our boys continue to prove that they are a good team, who is only going to get better, they know who truly has supported them and who has doubted them. So take my advice and leave straight from the Blend, because I'd hate for you to have to walk all that way.

  43. Yes! Much like the class that’s been exhibited from you and a handful of other GS members on the board in the past! Guess I don’t see the difference in pointing out how one program, who portrays themselves as the end-all be-all, has yet to make an appearance at LOS, while you point out that a tradition rich program has regressed. We’re both just stating the obvious.

  44. Easy now big fella, I didn't say they weren't a competitive team, I said it no longer is a signature win. The classy way in which you take shots at GS in response to just about anything I say is fine...if you think that they somehow get under my skin you are mistaken. My oldest son was a 3 year starter on that 2015 team that lost to Chatard....I have slept just fine ever since that loss (and any real football guy understands why). Your behavior here somewhat mimics that of your players that last couple times they have been to GS. As they say, the apples never seem to fall too far from the trees. Keep up the good work!

  45. You mean since 2012? When it became sooo obvious that Jasper had been supplanted by another as the best SW program outside of the SIAC? And d@mmit! That program still doesn’t get the recognition it deserves!! Even after that state finals appearan- oh.... And I think life in the SIAC will suit Jasper, and Lincoln, just fine. Jasper historically excels at every sport, boys and girls, the least of which just happens to be football at this point in time. Lincoln is just now making a return to football relevancy after a decade hiatus, and are traditionally strong in the other major sports. No doubt that both schools will take their lumps, especially in the early years. But winning the conference isn’t on either’s check list. And it’s not as if they’re projected to be bottom feeders.

  46. I heard the same things from fans of other MIC schools, one in particular. One other thing I'd add is that not only is this team incredibly well-coached, getting it done in the weight room, has complete buy-in from throughout the program, and it's got a special senior class that's incredibly talented (with three players with D1 offers) ... the program is sound. There's a well-run youth league where players are getting good coaching and lots of reps starting in the first grade. There's a commitment to football throughout the community ... and that's likely to keep growing as the community grows. New Palestine is about to see a population explosion, as more than 1,000 houses are under construction or approved in the community right now.
