  4. Bingo! Call or no call, this was a very veteran crew with lots of experience. Don't let one call determine the outcome of the game. Nobody has video from the BJ's viewpoint. Could have been a player that ran in front of him and blocked his view for a second.....things happen so fast and that's all it takes.

  5. Hahahaha. Call me when you start to have a little post season success.. Don't forget, we are a 2A team playing up because of our success. Keep being proud of yourselves for coming up short!

  6. Oh, we're keeping an eye out for them. Last time they visited, the silverware was missing and half the liquor had been drunk when they left. 😁

  7. Which game makes you say it is not even close (Between GS and Southridge)? Was it the "Running Clock" Game GS had against HH? - GS looked stellar in that game. The last second Hail Mary against Southridge (Which was a very close game)? Or was it your "back-and-fourth" win against 3A POWERHOUSE Salem? Fancy me, why dontcha...

  8. It is a shame this sectional is getting lost on page 3 of the threads. I really think this GS vs HH game will be a nail-biter down to the end. The Southridge fan in me would love to see GS win (Because i think we would take care of business this time around). However, I hate hearing about Gibson Southern when they have proved nothing...ever. But if you ask any news station in southern Indiana, GS is the best team since the '72 Dolphins.

  9. The IHSAA created the 6th class to promote competitive balance. Unfortunately it split one class in half thus making one less tourney game possible causing the subsequent bye. Class 5A and 6A not playing a week 10 has ZERO bearing on class 1A-4A. It's not like a 5A school has a week off to prepare for a 4A school in the playoffs, each team is at the same advantage/disadvantage. This is a non-issue.

  10. Or any other state. There’s a reason we stand alone ... and it’s not because we’re smarter than everyone else.

  11. I LOVE the idea of 6A teams playing a 10th regular season game IF they want. However, from a logistical standpoint, who would referee those games? Most officials will be working the first round of the tournament that week. Either you'd have to do up to 16 Class 6A games on Thursday or Saturday (letting you use tournament officials) or you're using referees who didn't qualify for the postseason. Maybe there's enough veteran referees who choose not to work postseason to accommodate, but not likely. Just my $0.02 Dan "Rudy" Engler

  13. I think that both sides are remaining respectively quiet for this one!! I say this because regardless of the outcome on Friday the simple fact is this, after week two of the tournament a team with legit state championship pedigree is going home!! So rather than stir the hornets nest I think everyone is remaining respectively quiet. Which I think stinks!!!

  14. Allen has a rep for recruiting. I was thinking that being bowl eligible will be a bit more ammo for him to get some better recruits. And if they win their bowl game, that should help even more. I'd love to see IU start snagging more and more 4 star recruits and some day maybe even grab a 5 star or two. If that starts happening, IU's program will be in VERY good shape. It may take a few more years, but they have to build off of this year! 3 or 4 years in a row going to bowls would do wonders for the Hoosiers' program going forward.

  19. When Muda mentions all his hegemonic hate, he’s thinking DT and no one else. Besides the fact that you aimlessly seek attention from topics by inciting class riots, success factor nonsense, and general bore-ass retreads, you still have a knack for otherwise condescending content for even the smallest of great football schools. Are recruiting visits to Ivys even newsworthy? Pretend like you’ve been there before. Loser.

  20. Heh.....well I have heard some here (with faltering success) define speed differentials as “city” speed which, I guess, infers “country” speed as well. Let me suggest that in the case of Plainfield that they have “excellent “suburban” team speed”. Mileage may vary.

  23. For my health classes, I assign a weekly health article. Last week, I came upon this article which should help on the so called "War on Football." Enjoy! https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/10/191021082749.htm Adolescents who play contact sports, including football, are no more likely to experience cognitive impairment, depression or suicidal thoughts in early adulthood than their peers, suggests a new University of Colorado Boulder study of nearly 11,000 youth followed for 14 years. The study, published this month in the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, also found that those who play sports are less likely to suffer from mental health issues by their late 20s to early 30s. "There is a common perception that there's a direct causal link between youth contact sports, head injuries and downstream adverse effects like impaired cognitive ability and mental health," said lead author Adam Bohr, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Integrative Physiology. "We did not find that." The study comes on the heels of several highly-publicized papers linking sport-related concussion among former professional football players to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), cognitive decline and mental health issues later in life. Such reports have led many to question the safety of youth tackle football, and participation is declining nationally. But few studies have looked specifically at adolescent participation in contact sports. "When people talk about NFL players, they are talking about an elite subset of the population," said senior author Matthew McQueen, an associate professor of integrative physiology. "We wanted to look specifically at kids and determine if there are true harms that are showing up early in adulthood." The study analyzed data from 10,951 participants in the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health), a representative sample of youth in seventh through 12th grades who have been interviewed and tested repeatedly since 1994. Participants were categorized into groups: those who, in 1994, said they intended to participate in contact sports; those who intended to play non-contact sports; and those who did not intend to play sports. Among males, 26% said they intended to play football. After controlling for socioeconomic status, education, race and other factors, the researchers analyzed scores through 2008 on word and number recall and questionnaires asking whether participants had been diagnosed with depression or attempted or thought about suicide. "We were unable to find any meaningful difference between individuals who participated in contact sports and those who participated in non-contact sports. Across the board, across all measures, they looked more or less the same later in life," said Bohr. Football players -- for reasons that are not clear -- actually had a lower incidence of depression in early adulthood than other groups. Those who reported they did not intend to participate in sports at age 8 to 14 were 22% more likely to suffer depression in their late 20s and 30s. "Right now, football is in many ways being compared to cigarette smoking -- no benefit and all harm," said McQueen, who is also director for the Pac-12 Concussion Coordinating Unit. "It is absolutely true that there is a subset of NFL players who have experienced horrible neurological decline, and we need to continue to research to improve our understanding of that important issue." But, he said, "the idea that playing football in high school will lead to similar outcomes later in life as those who played in the NFL is not consistent with the evidence. In fact, we and others have found there is some benefit to playing youth sports." A recent University of Pennsylvania study of 3,000 men who had graduated high school in Wisconsin in 1957 found that those who played football were no more likely to suffer depression or cognitive impairment later. But some pointed out that the sport had changed radically since the 1950s. The new study is among the largest to date and looks at those who played football in the 1990s. The authors note that, due to the design of the dataset, they were only able to measure "intended" participation. (Due to the timing of the questionnaires, however, it is likely that those who reported participation in football actually did participate.) They also could not tell how long an adolescent played, what position or whether a concussion or sub-concussive head injury was ever sustained. Further studies should be done exploring those factors, they said. "Few current public health issues are as contentious and controversial as the safety and consequences of participation in football," they concluded. "Research on the risks of participation weighed with the risks of not participating in sports will enable parents and young athletes to make educated, informed decisions based on solid evidence." A new CU Boulder study, looking at the long-term mental and physical health of CU student-athlete alumni, is already underway. Story Source: Materials provided by University of Colorado at Boulder. 24. I had one where it snowed in the second half and it was much more pleasant than the first half. 45 degrees with a freezing rain and 40 mph wind was absolutely miserable. The players hated it too. It got cold enough around halftime it turned into snow which wasn't as wet. Most miserable I've ever been for a game.

  27. I think the 10th game for half the teams playing will do exactly what you described as the reason to eliminate the bye; it can kill any momentum gained going into the playoffs. I think you might get more traction with something either you or someone else posted in the other topic; a bye week in the regular season. A number of schools now have a full week of Fall break now, so it might be good to have the bye weeks scheduled the same week.

  33. Brohm signed two OL grad transfers in his first year, one from Rhode Island and another from Northern Illinois. Both were solid starters and sniffed the NFL as UDFA. He then signed another OL from Western Kentucky last year and he was a starter as well. Unfortunately they all graduated and he struck out on securing any OL grad transfers this past year. He had one, but that player changed his mind at the last second. Purdue also had a projected starting OL retire during the offseason. Brohm knows that his OL was going to struggle and he tried to correct it. He tried and failed. Don't forget to invite me to your team building seminar. Also, during Brohm's first year he brought in approximately 10 grad transfers and JUCOs.

  34. I actually think it is better for lower level teams. It gives them some exposure that may not happen otherwise. Also eliminates the referee shortage problem along with not giving some lower rated crews games. Not sure how it affects the big schools, but I think they would like an opportunity to concentrate on the basics again and get guys rest. My 2 cents.

  37. And playing the schedule they do as well as playing in the Hoosier conference helps them prepare for the post season. This will be a good game in round 2.

  40. You do realize that LCC's been there before? Played the 2A state champion to a 3-point game and played the2A state runner-up with a minute of likely taking their place when they were there.

  42. When fans go around running their mouths about how they would dominate higher levels that they never have to compete at, then once they do they fail miserably, what do you expect? When fans go around making claims that they know they'll never have to prove, that's pretty disrespectful I think. Just because those claims disappeared with the board after last season doesn't mean everyone forgot.

  44. We got throttled by a more physically dominant team. No more no less. They wanted it more and took it. Eurit is a great player, but if you ask me the most important player on Cass is #30 Humphrey. We couldn’t block him at LB and he was dominant as a blocker at TE. He was a man among boys last night. Full credit to Cass and hopefully it opened some eyes for us of what it will take to be successful next year.

  45. You’re barking up the wrong tree. LCC lost to the runner up by 4 and the state champ by 3. Didn’t lose by 35 to where ever Cass ends up. I’m out for the day, going to go watch a really good player on an irrelevant team, I’m sure you’ll be tuning into ABC to watch an irrevleant player on a good team. Maybe then we can figure out who the better player is.
