I’d argue that 2018 Chatard was “individually” better than 2019 Chatard BUT 2019 Chatard was a much better “team” (as was 2020)…..if that makes sense. I think this year is GS’s year…and I couldn’t be happier for them. They are long overdue for their shot at the Blue. IB. That loss against WL was, regardless of outcome, one of the all time classics and both teams should be proud to have been part of it. Epic game.

You are fine. I will never understand why people have to criticize others who make attempts to bring discussion and information to these boards. Living in the area and trying to decide which game I will attend Friday, it was much appreciated.

No dog in the fight but honestly, I wouldn't lobby petition to play anywhere (down or up). I would sit back and let them move you to where you fall (enrollment, success factor etc). Just leave it up to the IHSAA (like every other team/school). Success on the field moves you up, non success puts you in you're enrollment class. I have respect for many programs. Do you honestly believe (no offense to New Pal) that if New Pal loses Friday night they will petition to stay in 5A or will they allow themselves to go back down to 4A. I don't mean that in a mean way at all, most likely they they are going to let the IHSAA move them wherever they should be. I don't think that should be any different for any school be it Private/PP or Public. Play where they place you!

Yeah I know it's very one sided... I try not to do that... usually... but I guess I wanted Donovan to feel good knowing things like that get noticed. Ralph got in several big tackles...and we were concerned about handling him at all... but I saw several positive runs go right at him with some good blocks particularly from DeBruhl. They started moving Ralph around the D Line...and he definitely made plays in the 2nd half. Did not help us when DeBruhl went out in the late 3rd with Ankle. Oh It's very hard to call a game on radio.. or write up a recap and not 'call' out a mistake... I try everytime not to name a player on a blatant mistake.. and sometimes it's impossible. In the MD Linton recap I feel I gave Ralph a ton of kudos on his play to offset one pancake comment. Kinda like then Trey Goodman threw 3 picks against Southridge a couple years back. It was hard to ignore that those 3 picks put our Defense in a terrible spot and gave up points we could never get back. And I never fault a kid for effort! And in the end they (MD) are playing in Regional this week. We are into Basketball. But I will watch myself in the future for those journalistic errors! I never ever ever would call myself a professional writer! They'd never allow all those words..

Leavin Friday mornin, so we can drink and meet some Fort Branch ladies! Throw out a local establishment or two, just know the Clown and crew will be buzzed before you! So lock your doors and hide yo' wives.... cause Stink Town is coming to wreck the Branch and boogie all night!

Westfield at Carroll - The Rocks come to the Fort this Friday after a scare against the Royals last week. While the Chargers dismantled the Tigers and their "Bart Ball", the Rocks needed a last minute field goal to lift them to the dub. The Chargers come into this game focused. If they can go into halftime with the lead, they might just have an upset. Westfield by 13 Bishop Dwenger at Zionsville - The Saints welcomed in the Panthers last week and just dominated from kickoff to kneel down. Playing a rival can do special things for a team. So can the fact that you might be related to half of your teammates. Zionsville had a brutal regular season schedule that has them more than prepared for the Fort's Fighting Tippmanns. Zionsville by 20 Brebeuf Jesuit at Norwell - These Knights have played well this season, and have risen to nearly every challenge thrown their way this year. The Braves, however, are simply better. Those Indy Catholic schools are something else. It might not be a score blowout, but I fully expect the Braves to soundly win this one. Brebeuf Jesuit by 15 Eastbrook at Eastside - Just about everyone in the state will have their eyes on this one. Two unstoppable offenses meet two immovable defenses. Flip a coin and take your pick. Will the Blazers' win over the mighty Knights last week have them feeling lax this Friday? I think not. Give me the homefield heros. Eastside by 2 Adams Central at South Adams - The Starfires have improved since their Week 6 loss to the Jets. Just look at their grind-out win over the Bears two weeks ago, a team who shut them out in Week 5. Unfortunately for them, the Jets have also done nothing but improve. Adams Central by 26

Who is the genius who thought it would be a great idea to host a little league football tournament with elementary kids playing 3 or 4 games in a weekend. That has got to be one of dumbest things I have ever heard off. I know they don’t hit like the bigger kids, but the game still takes its toll on the body. Parents and coaches we have got to be better than this.

This is an honest question . . . Not trying to be a smart guy. I was asked and do not know the answer. Appreciate the response . . . . In the state tournament, should the score reach 35 points or more and the clock runs . . . . Does the clock continue to run (except for injury, timeout, end of period, or by the officials) if the score goes below the 35 points? So if it runs at 35 or more, but then goes below 35 does the clock contiune to run? Thanks! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

Pro Tip: Opponents should wear GS apparel before, during, and after the GS home games to deter profiling. Plus I hear it encourages the visiting team when they see mom and dad beaming down at them in Maroon, Gold, and White all game.

LIKE: You are forgetting that our red-neck south side second cousins are running through 4A. Someone needs to make sure the Rebels/Royals don't get any more state titles than they deserve. But, generally, I agree with you.

I've seen film on both..brebeuf has the talent n I believe motivation from the past few years..those guys are hungry for a ring..Norwell is a gr8 team with the community behind them..playing for a regional is a great accomplishment for them n they have produced D1 talent..rn its kind of like a diluted chatard rolling in wearing burgundy n gold though n there may take divine intervention although BJ may have that on their side as well..lol

I know they are buliding a new high school, but did not think a new football stadium was part of that construction plan at this time. Could be wrong.

I don't remember the exact date. For all I know, they already started. I know they have a major overhaul plan of their campus.

Have a lot of Juniors and Seniors playing defense for the jv? The sophmore running back had 48 carriers for 295yds the previous 2 weeks as well.

I figure with this game being on Saturday, everybody will be good and ripe by kickoff.

What about the Mooresville, Moeller, Roncalli games. I think those are good barameters.

Don't take this as gospel because I don't know what Coach Simmons does. I do know that for years, BD's Sectional included Northwest, Tech, Perry, Southport, Decatur, Pike, and a rotating team that at times included Manual and Franklin Central. Back in those days, they would spend most of their time on their prospective Regional opponent. That was in the Dullaghan/Allen days. So, back then, they'd get three weeks of prep for Warren. In more recent times, the Sectional has included the Hendricks County powerhouses or Derek Moyers' Pike outfit. One year, BD had to play through Moyers and Pike, Avon, Warren, Center Grove, and Carmel to win State. The last three years, they've gotten a better draw. I don't expect that will continue into next year. I would fully expect the Giants to be moved around. Zionsville and Carmel will have to go somewhere. Since the IHSAA won't split same district schools into different Sectionals, Perry/Southport, LN/LC, HSE/Fishers are all a package deal. Then you have the singletons like Tech who is the only 6A in IPS, BD, Warren, Pike, NC, and FC. Should be interesting to see where BD gets shuffled when the committees get together.

Been looking at Carrol’s stadium and holy smokes! They put in tons of work building their new stadium. Tons of space for this upcoming game, too bad I live in Evansville, or else I would check it out.

I realize coaches and ADs have little control over what overzealous parents do. But, if I was a coach, one of the first things I would do is assign an assistant to get every player’s social media accounts, follow them, and let them know that the coaches will be aware of everything they post on social media. I’ve seen firsthand some things put out there by players that, if I was their coach, would have them watching at least a game or two from the stands.

That is correct, and in one of the messages above there is a link which confirms that (i.e. Cathedral stays in 5A 2021-2022 seasons, and next fall will be 2022 season).

If we plow through remainder of playoffs with sizeable win margin I will be very disappointed if Cathedral brass does not lobby/petition IHSSA to move to 6A in fall 2022.

I think Memorial would have been very glad to see who would come out on top in the win column over past decade vs GS, particularly versus this GS squad. Maybe especially so. Since 2012 the series is tied 3-3. Three of those six were Sectional Finals. Two were decided by nine points, one by six, and one by three (in OT). The other two games they split a healthy beat down on each other. I'm sure EM would have been champing at the bit to get to GS in sectionals... which the ping-pong gods would have deemed first round worthy, I'm sure.

I laughed out loud at the “refs need to be held accountable” blather. You have no idea how competitive officiating at that level is. And I’ll bet you’ve never been involved in a session with your peers and the supervisor where one of your calls gets sliced and diced mercilessly.

Two schools with arguably the best facilities in the state. I was unbelievably impressed with the new digs at Carroll last week! Easily one of the nicest football stadiums in the state and it's not close. Very few can compete with it. Fans that make the trip from Westfield will be pleased. The Warsaw game wasn't AS bad as it seemed... well kinda... shoulda/woulda/coulda game here, but if Warsaw scores on their drive before halftime and gets to the locker room down 22-7, then scores on their opening drive of the second half, the game easily could have been 22-14 with about 3 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter. Instead, Carroll stopped Warsaw at the 20 yard line with less than a minute in the half, and Becker took a QB draw 65 yards for a TD with only seconds to spare before halftime. That gave Carroll a 29-0 lead at halftime, and then the Tigers made their way inside the 20 yard line again on their first drive of the second half before the Chargers stopped them again. IMO - the long drive up to Fort Wayne for Westfield could play a little into things. If Carroll can start hot, they can certainly be competitive in this ball game.

Passing thought: I know the SIAC has had a thread that has lasted all season, and the HHC thread has been going since 2019. How about a NEIGN (Northeast Indiana GameNight) thread for next season? I know the SAC has some supporters on the forum, and so does the NE8, ACAC, and NECC, just not as many as some of the other conferences. It'd be nice if people from NE Indiana could have their own dedicated thread instead of being spread out across the forum. Said thread would encompass 35 teams across 4 conferences. Any thoughts?

Always enjoy your write up's and passion for Miner football. However one critique I could offer from a journalistic standpoint - it's bad form if you're going to use players name in an unflattering moment in the game (ie "Ralph was pancaked" ) and not use the same verbiage when speaking of Miner mistakes. (ie "a couple missed tackles") Just an observation

Everyone has a different opinion of what "area" actually entails. And yes, good write up.

Only have 4 seniors starting. Quarterback, guard, linebacker, and safety. Several seniors in the defensive line rotation, though. At 1-3, this group had a lot to learn about playing hard and needed to improve their mental toughness. They've grown up a lot the last few weeks. I doubt it's enough to legitimately compete with the Irish on Friday, but 8 weeks ago, I didn't think they'd win the sectional either. FWIW, two junior OL and one sophomore OL are getting legit FBS looks.

I think this is the toughest game GS faces until Thanksgiving weekend, and even then, I think GS is a pretty clear favorite.

For those who can't make it out to Middlebury Friday night, WHME TV 46 has announced this as their game of the week and will be streaming.

Hatch’s return has added a whole ‘nother dimension to this City offense. I don’t think the impact of his absence in the first game between these teams can be overstated. Kid is a threat to take the ball to the house every time he touches it. As you said, Valpo took advantage of the Wolves’ man coverage scheme in the first game, especially getting Hayden Vineyard involved in the passing game, where it looked like no one was covering him on two huge receptions for touchdowns. And City’s rush defense was definitely wobbly by the end of the game as well, with Valpo’s depth seeming to be a big advantage in that regard. How City adjusts to these from the previous game will be interesting to see. These two teams are basically oil and water; one wins by grinding opponents down and generally wants to play the game in the box, while the other wants to race past their opponents with elite perimeter athleticism. How these styles play out in this rematch will be fun to watch.

There is no national contract. It's a local contract with what is now Bally Sports Indiana. There is no connection to Fox Sports - and WXIN does not televise the games in Indianapolis. If you don't have FSI (and many of us cord-cutters don't thanks to Sinclair Broadcasting's running feud with the streaming services), you're out of luck.

Or you could just seed the tournament and let the higher seed host.

I'll give credit to the crew we had last night at Northview. At one point when it was becoming clear Memorial was controlling the game and frustrating the Knights, things began to get chippy. Quick offsetting unsportsmanlike-like conduct penalties pulled things back into check for the most part.
