Funny they would come out with this when up until today their site had said “schedule to be determined following semi states”. Guess they’ll never do the geography based state finals scheduling like had been previously discussed? Would have been cool if GS, MD and Memorial all got to play same day to make it even more worth the drive for Evansville area fans. On the other hand it does make crowds filing in and out of their section easier when it is, for example 4A giving way to 6A fans in terms of numbers, as opposed to Westfield fans potentially waiting on Zionsville fans to all clear out.

After watching the SAC's streak of having a semi-state representative for 34 years in a row come to an end tonight, it's only appropriate to bring up the topic of restructuring the conference in the off season. Teams from the Indy area proved last night that they are on a different level. This has nothing to do with the players, but everything to do with the programs. The growth of Indy area football programs have come along way over the last 20 years, and now it's just a matter of figuring out how to catch up. It took several years, but the HCC has finally caught up with the MIC. It only took a few years, but the SAC elevated the level of play from Homestead and Carroll. Now the question is, who can elevate the level of play from the SAC? The answer is simple. Restructure the conference so that teams can schedule at least one team outside the division during the regular season. How many would be ideal? Three or four? Who knows, but one game would be a good start. I'd like to see Snider, Homestead, and Carroll have the opportunity to schedule a team from the MIC, a team from the HCC, and a team from the region on an annual basis. Allow Dwenger to knock heads with Chatard. Luers possibly with LCC or one of those teams they used to tangle with from Ohio. That would do the trick. Instead of hitting a brick wall in the post season, our teams would know what to expect and know what to do moving forward to get to a championship level of play. This is no longer becoming a matter of opinion. It's becoming a matter of fact. If the SAC want's become a player again at a statewide level, they need to ditch the "ease of scheduling" line of thought and get rid of the 'island conference.' Twenty years ago, this Carroll team might have had what it took to reach state. Twenty years ago, this Dwenger team might have had what it took to reach state. This isn't twenty years ago. It's a new era. Make a change or get used to the status quo.

Unless Zionsville/Michigan City scores 21+ on Cathedral's starting D, and that's happened once this year against a team that is top 10 nationally whose offense took almost 3 quarters to get going, Cathedral isn't going to lose to anyone unless said QB goes out there and turns the ball over 5-6 times which hasn't come close to happening. Red zone issues has much more to do with pre-snap penalties and conservative/predictable play-calling than it has QB play.

That was Coach Dullaghan's final game. I remember his name being mispronounced over the PA..."Congratulations to Coach Dick Dull-again". I also remember Coach D addressing the Warriors informally as they all congratulated him on his career. "Be Humble. Play your hearts out! Now go win it all because you're the best team." Still have the audio somewhere around here.

1973, Bloomington High School, no North or South back then. Bloomington HS had won 60 games in a row and this was the first year for a playoff in Indiana. Bloomington HS almost had more coaches than Cathedral had players, or so it seemed. It was really cold that night as it usually is when you make a long playoff run. The opening kickoff was run back by Cathedral's Vince Gaughn and the Irish went out to a lead with another score shortly thereafter. Anyway the Irish won the game 32-28 and broke Bloomington's long winning streak. It was a fun ride back home! The Irish played at School Field the next week for the 3A championship. They were beaten by South Bend Washington 19-13 in a tight battle.

But I submit, the majority of the football problems can be traced right back to the Athletics Director. Indiana has had some real Bozos.

It seems the IHSAA is trying to make up for the lost revenue from last year. Tickets for the semi state are $10 ea. with a $1.50 service charge for each ticket. It is through an IHSAA site, that everyone must use to purchase tickets in advance. There will be tickets sold at the gate, and this seems to be a thriftier way of gaining admission. That is if the gate price is the same as the advance price. Anyway, we'll be there! GO IRISH!!!!

They played at the township schools in Marion County (North Central, Warren Central, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North) until the Hoosier Dome opened. It hosted starting in ‘84.

That angle also make for a debatable tip/no-tip, but again with the other two angles considered it really just reinforces (from MY perspective at least) a close, but no cigar play by LB #54. This view does help to show the ball didn't elevate right over his hand like it appears in the booth angle, but when taking the EZ camera perspective (filmed from behind the kicker), it reinforces that the ball travels to the left of his hand/arm (kickers right side). But I'm willing to be convinced otherwise with another angle... I mean, if three doesn't tell us enough, how many will?? LOL ...was Zapruder in attendance and shooting from behind the goal posts on the grassy knoll, by any chance?? 😄

Westfield and Zionsville will roll. Don't let Brownsburg choking cloud your judgment and allow you to overthink things, DAC is arguably more underwhelming than the HCC in recent years.

Interesting story line at least to me is Vince Lidy making the return to Evansville as a 1st time HC. I'm sure there will be some sentimental emotion for him. He can follow in his fathers footsteps and win a Semi-State in Evansville. He's the only QB I've ever seen who was tough enough to also be a dominate LB on the defensive side of the ball.

I'm always impressed when a HS kicker boots a game winner. I expect it at the college and NFL level, but for some reason I just assume it's much harder at the HS level.

I got the chance to see him play in person a few weeks ago....He is impressive. The first TD he scored was at our end; a nice over the shoulder catch in stride. I got this pic of him just before kickoff

Random observation after watching some of the Scecina/ Central Catholic game: Scenina has the blandest uniform / helmet combo I've ever seen. Reminds me of a generic combo from a 1995 Eastbay magazine.

November 14, 1980 - Lawrence Central HS The Sheridan Blackhawks defeat the North Judson Blue Jays 27-0 to win the program's first of 9 state titles. It was a cold, wet night at LC. We just celebrated the 41st anniversary of that game yesterday. Hard to believe it's been that long and the ol' ball coach is still leading the Hawks.

I remember watching Cathedral warm up before that 5A state title game against Westfield. Terry McLaurin, Cathedral's all everything player, looked more like a college player than a high school kid while warming up without pads. Westfield had no one that could defend him whether he was playing receiver or tailback. I think he even returned kickoffs and punts. Seeing how well he's done with Washington, he's proven he may be one of the best ever to play there.

Warsaw at Snider 2001 Warsaw brought the biggest offensive line I've ever seen to Spuller Stadium. They may have even been the favorite that night. The Tigers knew they had a strong Snider team to get past, but their sights were really on Penn, who beat them in a tight game the year before. Warsaw made a statement right away going up 14-0. Snider clawed back and tied it. With Warsaw up 20-14 with 5 minutes to go, Snider drove the length of the field by running every single play. No big runs or small ones, but each run went for about 4-6 yards. Snider tied it up and ultimately won in overtime 23-20. Penn bowed out in regional setting up a Valpo/Snider match in which the Viking won and went on to state. Snider at Homestead 2002 Snider drew a bye and had two weeks to prepare for the favored Spartans. This was arguably Homesteads best team ever (the other being 1998). In a game that Snider led by a touchdown most of the way, Homestead went ahead 21-20 on a thrilling 4th down touchdown pass with just a few minutes to play. With time running out and Snider facing a 4th and 1 from their own 29, they brought in the full house backfield. That was just a set-up for the wide open TE downfield who stumbled as he caught the ball and fell down untouched. That set up the game winning field goal with no time remaining. Snider having two weeks to prepare was the difference in that game. Snider went on to lose to Ben Davis 31-7 at state. Fishers at Snider 2012 Down 28-14 with Fishers driving into FG territory with 5 minutes to go. I left the game only to get a phone call on the way home telling me that Snider won 36-35. Snider's season ended in the state finals to Lawrence Central 39-14.

So far there is only 1 SS game scheduled, but they should officially announce around Wednesday. I know all the Soccer games got live streams for SS. The Memorial-MV in 2019 had one too, but that was done by SRN

Max preps highlights are joke most of the time...they will say your team highlight...and just show the other teams highlights from the game...lol it's a fun place to watch a race...love the dirt track. Swear to God...lol

2006 Regional, Norwell @ New Prairie. We showed up for the game, went into the locker room, had our pregame, walked out and the temperature had dropped 20 degrees into the 30s, and it was raining. We turned around, went back to the locker room and put on every stitch of clothing we had. The rain turned to sleet, and then ice pellets. The first half was an absolute mud bath. By early in the 2nd half, the temperature had dropped even further, and the mud ruts began to freeze. Footing was horrible. One player dominated the game: Norwell QB Chandler Harnish, who went on to star at Northern Illinois. He must have rushed for over 200 yds. in Norwell’s 49-20 win. After the game, I took off my knickers and socks and threw them in the trash. That was the most uncomfortable I have ever been on a football field, and the worst field conditions I’ve ever seen.

Wow, after 34 semi state appearances in a row SAC didn't make it. Yes let's burn it all down! What a crock! How about a little reality check. It should have been obvious to anyone who pays attention to football in Fort Wayne that this was not a banner year for our teams. When the smallest school in the conference nearly goes unbeaten, they are either a super team for their size or the overall quality is suspect. I assumed the latter. So I guess if we had only dropped a conference game and played Cathedral and got really stomped as one of our FOUR losses during the regular season we would have beaten Zionsville. Of course in any rational world we wouldn't be playing a team from a school nearly 90% bigger. But look at the bright side it gave all of the private school haters great satisfaction. To my best recollection those years that Dwenger played Cathedral or Chatard during the regular season we weren't exactly cleaning up in the playoffs. Bottomline, Carroll and Homestead are improving. When they first arrived they weren't winning championships in the SAC. They will likely continue to get better. Adding one 6A from Indy is not a guarantee of anything.

Nah. He didn’t predict any W’s. Just said he thinks City and Ville have the athletes to make it interesting this year and is looking forward to the possibility of both winning. Seems fair. Cody would have called for a running clock in at least one of the games and the other to be 2 TD Region win. Parkhurst’s hyperbole doesn’t really bother me. What gets me is his inability to provide factual information regarding historical results. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s just a parody account attempting to troll.

I watched Plainfield play Tri-West this year in-person. A few costly turnovers at the start of the game proved to be fatal the Quakers chances of victory; the Bruins capitalized off of all those turnovers and jumped to a 19-0 lead at the end of the 1st. Slowly but surely, however, the Quakers inched back into the game and even took a 20-19 lead. However, TW scored on their final drive and won 25-20. I think that turnovers are the key difference maker in this game. Once Plainfield got going, the Bruins had trouble stopping them, and GS definitely has a better offense than Plainfield. GS has also been great at not causing turnovers. As a result, I like your chances, GS posters.

Some alumni of note from Tri-West: racer Jeff Gordon (4 time NASCAR champ and cross-country runner at Tri-West); gymnast Bridget Sloan (Olympic medalist and World Champion) and writer (and Wabash grad) Dan Simmons (one of the most renown writers in the country…if you saw the miniseries “The Terror”, you’ve seen a bit of his work).

If the IHSAA had the same format as in recent years with knowing which classes were on Friday and which were on Saturday for state finals weekend, they could play specific games on Friday nights and specific games on Saturday. This would help with planning and prep and rest time for the following weeks Championship game.

The Titans were challenged by L'Burg but found their rhythm late to pull out the victory. Evv C&P reported this was the first time GS did not have a running clock in victory this year. Impressive, but could that prove to be the Achilles heal for Titans? Hopefully this was just a friendly wake up call and they can keep firing on all cylinders for 4 straight qtrs. going forward. Well, that may be true, but they're going to the Final Four with a chance to beat Center Grove, a team that they led at the half and were within three of with four minutes to play in the third quarter this year. This is a healthier, more confident version of the Giants too. Call them whatever you want. They just beat a good Brownsburg team. They've got a kid that's thrown for almost 3,000 yards. That's only happened twice in BD history. But, you clearly know all great oracle of Ben Davis Football. Or a Ben Davis team that's about two plays from being 9-3...but...you know. Whatever. Ya just gotta love a guy like @Footballking16 who comes in and dumps on kids on one of their best nights.

Yes on seeding, but just the sectionals. Maybe I could be convinced on regionals, but rather see the regionals rotate which sectional winners play each other every year. Semi states as well. This is why I'd like to see neutral site regionals and semi state venues.

I have not observed any change in calling this foul at any level. The rule itself has not changed. It’s not a Point of Emphasis. I don’t see it called any more often, as compared to past years. But keep in mind that the rules are different at each level. In the NFL, for example, any contact above the neck is a foul. Contact below the knee is also a foul. At the high school level, we don’t have that.
