Gonzo, I played for Coach Wright at Sheridan from 1978-1980, coached there and then had 3 sons who were the starting QBs from 2001-2012. It seems like yesterday but my youngest just had his 10-year recognition. Enjoy the ride while you can. Time marches on.3 points

Punts and FG's are both scrimmage kicks. Several years ago at a coaches' clinic in Indy, this staff from a small school in Wisconsin did not have anyone who could punt well, so they chose to line up in PAT formation and kick away. It looked funny on film to see a team backed up at their own 20 or so lining up to kick a FG. lol2 points

As long as the ball does not break the plane of the goal line, it can be advanced by the defense.2 points

I would not be shocked to show up and see HH in a 5 receiver set with a different QB.2 points

I actually just covered substitutions for pregame. Only a player can commit an encroachment, at this point he is a substitute which classifies the illegal substitution.2 points

As has been stated, that was just as you said, a rumor. Around here, we knew that he wouldn't get a shot at it so I think that was just the talk outside of the area. The kid that everyone thought might get a shot at QB is a sophomore, I am not sure he got a shot....dunno about that. Goldsberry only has got in on offense a few times and has carried the ball once, and well, we saw how that went. I said something to him about it the next week and he told me that he told Todd, "Give me the ball and I will score." LOL--he doesn't lack confidence. We don't often play freshman on offense....it is extremely rare, Clayton started freshman Cole Seifrig on Defense (20 years ago), but not on offense....he was likely the fastest kid on the field over all. Kenton Crews... Of course Jay, but he wasn't QB. Jett is playing at a level above virtually everyone on the field. You will see a bunch of him, next year. And yes he is leading the team in tackles, but he is doing that as a DB not a linebacker. That is impressive. Put the kid at linebacker and see where that number goes--way ↑.2 points

In this case, they can. I’m all for the coach speak in many instances but not in this case. Their JV would win sectional 7…easily.2 points

I've been thinking about this, I think Goshen's first-half second-half splits are mostly due to the fact that they have a lot of guys playing both ways. Hard to maintain that level of play when you're sucking wind and the other team isn't. Goshen has looked really tough at a lot of times this year. If Coach Wogomon can get the numbers back up, I think in a year or two, you'll see a very different Goshen team than we've seen in recent years.2 points

You know what the packers have that they don’t though? the ability to have a tailgate in your front yard across the street from Lambeau. Or at the minimum just walk to the stadium from your house all you suckers gotta drive. I can drink all I want and take a 20 minute walk home lol it must really suck to lose to the packers and then have to drive home in shame, sober lol1 point

Amazing if he earns playing time next year it’s going to be weird seeing Sellers/Scheller/Delong in 2023 knowing in 2013 it was the same lineup just the older brothers haha1 point

Castle at Reitz [-3.5] Bosse at Memorial [-28.5] Harrison at Vincennes [-24.5] Mater Dei at North [+2.5] Jasper at Central [+15.5] Boonville at Mount Vernon [+7.5] Gibson Southern at Heritage Hills [+27.5] I’m only taking this if Boyd is the QB this week lol. Pike Central at North Knox [-36.5] Tecumseh at North Posey [-6.5] @hh definitely going to audit you at the end of the year to see if you were screwing me haha1 point

NV over Attica 42-0. Falcons take out their frustrations on the Ramblers. PH over CT 24-21. Wolves did some things differently last week offensively after some injuries, obviously were shutout by a good Seeger team but should be back at full strength and will get the ball moving. FC over Seeger 28-21. Huge game for coach King after the shady way the Patriots fired him, he will bring all the tricks out this week and have his kids fired up. GOTW SV wins by hook and ladder over RP with 8 seconds remaining. 35-34. Will Garman come out in spread or play smash mouth football? Can they stop the stud defensive lineman for SV? I just feel SV has too much speed across the board to let Hazzard run for 250+ Someone else will have to step up. This games turned into a pretty good rivalry. KA, I’d love to make you sit in the middle of Rox country but I will be in Virginia for a wedding unfortunately. 1-Most competitive week of the year, a user stated last week this is the worst the WRC has been in a very long time. Anyone agree? 2- If Lutheran makes a run will they be bumped up to 2A? Could SouthPut give them any trouble?1 point

CE this year is much much better than last year. CE has played one bad half of football this year and that was against Columbus North in the 2nd half. East against Whiteland (arguably the best team in 5A) led at half 10-6. Entering the 4th quarter, it was 14-10 Whiteland. As for the North game, East was down 10-6 at the half, before absolutely falling apart for one of the worst halves of football I had seen in a long time. They are def improving each week, and that's all you can ask for. East lost 32 seniors the year Gaddis retired, so last year was a fresh start for Coach Vogel.1 point

Well technically not yet, but not feeling good. Haven't been wrong about ND and Marcus Freeman though. Nice to get the first win off his back but he just looked uncomfortable on the sideline the entire afternoon. I don't see him making it more than 3 years.1 point

Where do you see 3 losses on this Michigan schedule? I made a bet with @temptationin the offseason that Michigan wouldn't win 10+ games and am already regretting it. The B10 is awful this year and Michigan's schedule is extremely favorable. Their 3 hardest remaining games are home games against Penn State and Michigan State and an away game at Ohio State to end the year. I think at worst Michigan goes 10-2 but they will be a TD+ favorite in every game until the rivalry game with Ohio State.1 point

Heh….I’m not even that loyal to my own team (I correctly picked us to lose against Jasper Week 1)! No, I just think Reitz is the real deal this year. They have so many offensive weapons and have figured out how to use them that keeps defenses guessing. They have a “pick your poison” offensive attack.1 point

Week 6 Matchups Castle at Reitz [-3.5] Bosse at Memorial [-28.5] Harrison at Vincennes [-24.5] Mater Dei at North [+2.5] Jasper at Central [+15.5] Boonville at Mount Vernon [+7.5] Gibson Southern at Heritage Hills [+27.5] Pike Central at North Knox [-36.5] Tecumseh at North Posey [-6.5] Not much interest in SW Indiana rankings, so I'll only post mine if there's interest. Otherwise, the 812 rankings are great.1 point

Congrats to LC_Bears_04 for the first perfect week. I had 11 picks listed for Week 5, so there will only be nine picks in Week 6, and they'll be counted in Week 6. My favorite Michigan QB in the Bo days was Rick Leach. Lefty QB that became a starter at QB early in his frosh year, which was pretty unheard of back then. Outstanding football career and later became a 1st round baseball draft pick https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Leach_(baseball)1 point

Michigan should be lower if Purdue was 3-0 right now they wouldn’t be ranked that high and Purdue has played better teams than Michigan by far. i think Michigan is 4th right now. Behind OSU Penn state and Mn. Arguably Wisconsin too but that’s just my bias showing1 point

He was the only one who was good enough to get HH to change up their scheme on offense a little. The level of versatility that team had was nuts and it was just crazy to run the spread and more pass happy concepts but then at a moments notice switch it up and use the wish/flex and milk the clock completely dry. Very hard to find a QB who can do this for a team. in some ways, I see some comparable things between GS and it’s QBs. Everyone will agree that Brady Allen was by far and away the best QB GS has ever had. No question to it. but nick sellers from 2013-2015 played some truly phenomenal ball. He set pretty much every passing record at GS before Brady played and on top of that he was a big bodied runner who put up 36 rushing TDs in 37 games around 1400 rushing yards. All around just great at everything. to me at least, that’s what exciting about Boyd at QB now…we have the type of QB that is a true dual threat but one that can still light it up in the pass game.1 point

I really don't remember Brady in college so that may be a "my bad" on my end. I do know Griese lead them to their last national title. Jim Harbaugh is synonymous with Michigan and always thought he had a better college career than Brady. Grbac lead them to multiple Rose Bowl and just figured there were some good UM QB's during Bo's hey day.1 point

See, these are the kinds of things that make me feel old. I recall watching your youngest son play LCC in semi-state. Feels like a couple of seasons ago, but it was a DECADE. I mentioned the LCC kids that I first coached in the youth program now being on the varsity coaching staff. What I didn't mention, again making me feel really old, is one of those kids just welcomed his fourth kid into the world. It goes really fast.1 point

Scheduling software is not without its own issues. Bottom line communication is a necessity. Ultimately that’s on the home AD.1 point

Man, that's really tough for the kids. I remember my sophomore year our game with West Side had to be moved to Saturday because West Side's AD didn't get refs for the game (not kidding). Luckily we were able to use the refs for what was supposed to be the JV game that next day.1 point

Pretty sure there will be an IHSAA response to this event. Understandably, they take a very dim view of contracts not being honored. Not by way of excuse or justification, rather more like an explanation, between schools scheduling years ahead, to crews breaking up, to schools changing conferences and having to reschedule, there’s a lot to keep track of. I wonder why this doesn’t happen more often especially with the shortage of officials resulting in makeshift crews being cobbled together on a short notice basis. I would think that with all scheduling now being done electronically, there is less of an excuse for this happening than back in the old days when I kept a big 3-ring binder with the master schedule and copies of all my contracts.1 point

Early last week Springs Valley Community Schools and the Springs Valley Football program got the news that our 5th grader and offensive/defensive lineman, Treven Ball, had passed away. This was devastating as Treven was such a loving soul and a huge Springs Valley Blackhawk. While last week was tough and emotional, it was also incredible as we saw the outpouring of support, encouragement, prayer and love from our own community, surrounding communities, and Im sure many more that we will never know about or come in contact with. From the Springs Valley Football program, thank you to those of you that have helped in some way. Today (Monday) is actually Treven's 11th birthday. Im sure a prayer for his parents, siblings, and friends would be appreciated. Thank you!1 point

Triton should crack the Top 10 based on this last week; at a minimum moving MC out and going in. The only spoiler I see, in the Coaches' Poll is Sheridan leapfrogging by nature of picking up their 700th program win. Yes, I know that winning 700th over the years has nothing to do with a 2022 poll, but realistically we know that there are things other than current production that tend to influence poll standings; especially earlier in the season.1 point

I agree, the first half was epic. The offense got a little sloppy with both the fumble and the bad snap. The goal line stand was monster.1 point

I don’t know if this is the week to make any changes or if this is the right move to make. i mean…I don’t really care who it is….starting a freshman at QB in their first start against GS…not ideal at all. This is a matchup meant more for the upperclassmen imo. But if he were to play and do well…well at least HH knows they got their guy for the next 3 1/2 years. pros and cons for sure1 point

I'm at home being a keyboard jockey, watching some games. Not many good games on my side of town this weekend. It's strange to be at home tonight, in the middle of September. And we will not be going to Hammond next week either. Next up for my little group will be Cincinnati LaSalle at Arlington, two weeks from tonight. I hope everyone has a good game night tonight!1 point
