You may not be perfect and us parents are sure willing to let you know when we disagree with you but without your time and dedication, none of these young men would get to live out their dreams each and every Friday night. For that I want to thank all of you sincerely.9 points

basketball is stupid dumb sport nobody even gets hit and if they do a penalty is called? what the hell is the point wrestling is good however I've been to enough 12 hour wrestling meets for one lifetime. SO HERE IS WHAT I PROPOSE football season 2 electric boogaloo after the state championship we just run it right back all seniors are still eligible and we get more football to carry us up to baseball season. I'm getting all excited just thinking about Friday night lights in January. and we can combine classes for the second season 1/2a together 3/4a together 5/6a together. hell just looking at the calendar thered be a weekend I get to watch HS football one night then go out drinking for new years the following, what a brilliant weekend.2 points

Valpo is one dimensional, and have great size up front, and their QB reads the run well. They are disciplined. Merrillville can run and pass, their QB let one completion fly 60 yds in the air vs Chesterton. It will bode well for Valpo to score first, and the secondary will have its hands full in their zone coverage, especially if they dont keep the game in front of them. I like Merrillville's chances, with their big play potential, but they have to play disciplined ball, regardless of where the game is played, or whatever Cody's " Officiating history" comment means. Sad to hear a Merrillville OL decided to let the team down at half time of the Chesterton game, while it was tied at 7's, apparently it had a significant impact in the unwillingness of Merrillville to score in the 2nd half. Unsure why Cody has to offer unnecessary information regarding game specifics, was some rain in 4th qtr, not much wind, didnt bother Chesterton much, and they didnt bother with any slants or screens. What high school team doesnt watch upcoming game film? It's all on HUDL, and coaches can see how often their players view it.....and I agrree, the overall culture of a program is in jeopardy if starters are walking off at halftime and players admit in public that they dont watch film. Perhaps I dont like Merrillville's chances.2 points

The overall culture of a program is in serious trouble if a kid and walk away at halftime and still have a spot on the team the next day.2 points

Every time I worked the Finals, the last thing I said to the crew before we broke to our kickoff positions at the start of the game was “DON’T LOOK AT THE VIDEO SCREEN!”2 points

When times get tough... oh well you know the rest! If the walkers were not Seniors it would be the last time they played for me. Talent or no talent, you don't let your team down that way. I'm sure there are many that will disagree with me. To bring them back violates the trust of the team and teaches them NOTHING!2 points

I wonder how the wrestling coach and his wrestling teammates feel. Kid walked out on his teammates when the going got tough. Not the kind of guy I’d expect to have my back when push comes to shove.2 points

Offensive line is night and day from the beginning of the season. Give credit to Harry for that. I think that's the biggest difference in the team that beat Clemson vs the team that lost to Marshall.2 points

I can tell you that no one from Rochester complained. It was a great game. Rochester made a huge mistake on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter and failed to execute on special teams. Congrats LCC.1 point

I saw that too and said "Uhm" to myself. Was kinda of wondering of PF has a deeper dive into that??1 point

Really good Region crew on this game. All veteran officials looking to book their first trip to Indy as a crew this year.1 point

I'm hoping the R gave the dead ball foul signal before signaling the false start ... that helps me understand what happened as a broadcaster.1 point

that's when you wish you had a mic to the referee huddle after a play where the defense sacks the QB for an 8 yard loss on 3rd and 1. Referee: Whadyagot? Wing: I have an illegal procedure on #12 offense Referee: We don't have such a foul. What did he do? Wing: He left early. Referee: So we have a false start Wing: Yeah, that's what you call it Referee: So why didn't you kill it before the snap? Wing: Uh...I don't know Referee: You're buying the first round tonight. Maybe the second. Referee (over the stadium mic): prior to the snap, false start on the offense, 5 yard penalty previous spot, repeat 3rd down Without a mic you just see the signal and assume it must have been an illegal formation and wonder why the defense accepted the penalty when 4th and 9 is a better option than 3rd and 6. B's coach is legitimately angry and you have to take the berating you are about to receive.1 point

Can't speak for other schools, but the weight room culture at New Pal is pretty significant across sports. Coach Ralph has overseen the weightlifting/conditioning for the softball program, which has won three state championships since he came to NP. The athletes in other sports see what football is doing and they do the same.1 point

QB - Whitaker RB - Hansen WR - Tibbs TE - The kid from Mt. Vernon Fortville (Forgot name, sorry) OL - Could be a lot of guys but maybe Lauck from Roncalli DL - Mickens LB - Bowen DB - Not sure Just off the top of my head, could be more deserving candidates1 point

Crazy that George Karlaftis didn't make it either.1 point

When you have a RB in Travis Etienne and guys like Armani Rodgers and Justyn Ross out on the perimeter it makes life easier for any QB. As shocking as DJ's regression has been, I wasn't wowed with any of Clemson's skill position players. There's no Tee Higgins or Hunter Renfrow or Deon Cain on this years roster. And I think it's fair to say that Dabo needs coordinators Tony Elliott and Brent Venables a lot more than people went to lead on. No doubt Dabo is one hell of a program builder, but he was smart enough to surround himself with some of the best minds in football.1 point

I thought you wanted to study games like that because you always say 96-0 never forget. 156-0 is something I figured you might find interesting. But I don't think its the score that bothers you.1 point

Of course they stand a chance. That being said I will take Snider by 14.1 point

There's always Heritage. Turf, 3A sized stands. But the travel advantage flips to Luers in that scenario. Someone's gonna get screwed a little bit re. travel time with neutral sites. Deal with it. Make it worth that extra time and win! (As told to a group of parents - and later the players - by my sons HC several years ago. We won.)1 point

I like it!! But then most of ya'll know I'm in favor of neutral sites.1 point

Thanks to the good info I can glean from these threads. Yes, it will def get tricky from here on out.1 point

This is why I channel my inner Don Fischer and refer to every roll of the fists as a "procedure violation" on the air ... knowing it's usually a false start if a dead ball penalty and an illegal formation if a live ball one.1 point

Completely ridiculous assumption on your part. Absolutely no mention or even a HINT of race in his coments.1 point

Yep, I've seen it in programs and I've seen it across sports where a kid might "quit" mid-game. Yes, it can be a culture program, but I've also see it when it's not culture. I'm not familiar with Merrillville as a program, so I can't speak to their culture, and it's also why I mentioned specifically "personal attitude" rather than team culture in my statement of response.1 point

I read or saw the theory somewhere @Bash Riprock that Irsay is merely looking for a bluntly honest assessment of where the organization stands and feels that Saturday gives him the best chance at that. Not sure I buy it, but that was an interesting thought at the very least. It does seem odd that, according to reports, Saturday was not interested in coaching the O-line as recent as 2019 but now suddenly takes the head job, albeit on an interim basis. That makes me at least consider the idea of him as merely a "fly on the wall" for Irsay, but I also think it is more of a PR stunt than anything else by an owner who knows he is going to start from scratch this offseason with his coaching staff at the very least, if not the front office. At this point, there are only two conceivable outcomes: either A) Saturday provides a fresh voice and sparks some life into this roster or B) Saturday's hire causes toxic division within the coaching staff and locker room and the season tailspins into a death spiral leading to a complete reconfiguration of the front office, coaching staff, and roster. I am hoping against hope for option A, but my gut says we are looking at option B.1 point

A lot warmer up in that booth in Indiana in November ... and the food's better than on the field.1 point

Ran out of likes. Agree with all. The Notre Dame win was impressive, but I really don't think Clemson is Top 10 team. Looking at their overall body of work, this team isn't on the same level as the Dabo teams from 2015-2020.1 point

Quite the comparison. If I was a Pioneer coach in the 2014 1A finals, I'd be in favor of replay for the championship game.1 point

Because an unranked team with home losses to Marshall and Stanford isn’t going to jump all the way up to #12. Just not how the AP poll works this late in the season. In regards to Clemson, this type of loss has been building all year. They’ve been rather unimpressive all year and their initial #4 ranking in the CFP was on name brand alone. Offense is a mess and they’re getting average QB play at best. They severely lack playmakers out on the perimeter.1 point

I think Warsaw would be the better site. The goal is to even out travel distance. According to Google Maps, Mishawaka to Warsaw is 43 miles, Snider to Warsaw is 42.9 miles.1 point

Who pays it for state tournament events in every other sport? Bellmont does not have turf. Travel twice as far? It’s 25 minutes to go from Luers to Norwell. It’s 18 minutes from Bluffton to Norwell. I could see an argument if it was 2 hours for one school and only an hour for their opponent. Not a difference of 7 minutes.1 point

Really looking forward to this one. Think it will be a 4 quarter battle I do have to ask, is GCSN going to be broadcasting the game? And if so for the love of all that is holy can they find someone to commentate that knows even a little about football? Or better yet can they just link in to Miner Pride’s radio broadcast? My goodness the talk during the Southmont game was horrible… Go Miners!1 point

@JustRulesthorough discussion of the proper mechanics above highlights the importance of using correct mechanics. To the people (some of them officials, unfortunately) who say “mechanics, shmechanics, all that matters is they got it right,” this is a great example of why that is a fallacy. Even if this crew got it right, by looking horrible while doing so they are letting themselves in for a tough rest of the night. Everything they do from this point on is going to be scrutinized, analyzed, and criticized. And they brought it on themselves.1 point

It’s clear to me.. Hansen in a landslide.1 point

I think it’s just more of a year where People want to see what happens in the playoffs. Does anyone go above and beyond to carry their team to a title? i think the Hansen with Roncalli would have to be the favorite though. 10 games in and he has 2400 yards and 29 TDs. Another 100 and 2 TDs receiving Also Ringer is a junior by the looks of it so he can’t win it. Maybe he can win the Gatorade player of the year though1 point
