Because it's like a condom. It helps to greatly reduce the likelihood of contraction, but it will never completely prevent it. That's why I've said you have to go into this (students in school and athletes participating) knowing there will be some spread. If you are going to shut down if there is any spread then don't bother starting because that's not realistic even with everyone doing what they can. Masks and distancing and avoiding large groups for long periods of time seem to be the most common and consistent things to do to greatly reduce your risk. But they don't 100% prevent it.3 points

All I know is that we under a state mask mandate and phase 4.5 still because people didn't listen to SCIENCE! This isn't political in any way. If we would've followed the SCIENCE and wore masks in public, kept social distancing, and didn't get together in large gatherings we wouldn't be having the cancellations we are seeing now. I'm not calling anyone names I am just stating facts.2 points

Watching IHSAA Football on-line: The almost complete guide. During the regular season, the IHSAA does not regulate or control webcasting and broadcasting rights for schools. The game's rights are entirely owned by the home school. Several schools have taken advantage of the IHSAA Champions Network portal, IHSAAtv.org as a location to place school produced video-casts. The network is underwriting the cost of the bandwidth, the back end administration and providing technical support. Many have their own web locations. Additionally, Indiana has over 50 video webcasters operating as commercial entities. Many of these are television stations. Most are small producers who target games specifically for a school, conference or in a geographical area. They are also given bandwidth on IHSAAtv.org, but again, they are not required to do so. Many games will be pay-per-view at the discretion of the webcaster with the permission of the home school. Most will continue to be free-to-watch. Pricing will be near or about the same as a ticket. The net proceeds will support the athletic department. IHSAAtv.org, ISCsportsnetwork.com and Twitter searches are your best portals and tools to find games. WHMB, WHME and WNDY will also air games over-the-air. Search Facebook and Youtube for upcoming 'Live' events. Follow @IHSAAtv on twitter. We will update game webcast discoveries as they become known.2 points

This is where I've heard some inconsistency. The contact tracing side is being applied liberally in some cases and very conservatively in others. I know one school who sat down 10 players for 2 weeks because one in the group had symptoms but he tested negative. Other schools are isolating the player(s) who tested positive, but if no other players are showing symptoms or test negative they don't quarantine anyone else. Those programs have been doing it since July 6 with no outbreaks so it seems to be working so far.2 points

Please do not make posts personal when they needn't be. This is a warning. We have a forum where politics can be discussed widely, please use that and not this platform that is intended for sports talk. I know the issue is sensitive and linked, but in the end, we can't have posts being personal or aggressive. If you want to call me a Karen or a Nancy, come meet me in the parking lot behind the mosque near my apartment in northern Iraq. With transfers, you should be able to make it within 15 hours.2 points

Again you are a part of the problem. That is why we are in the situation we are in. The selfishness of some people are why we can't get a handle on this.2 points

I'm not saying that he can't say it. I just wonder what benefit the comment provides to the rest of the conversation. Everyone knows that there is a very real possibility that this week and every other week may not be played depending on the decision makers and the situations from school to school, and it gets really frustrating that it keeps getting brought up in every conversation. End rant.2 points

I don’t know how many times I’ve made the trip (Green Bay, Minocqua, Upper Peninsula), but it’s always worth it. A good friend of mine is on the school board of Kiel High School, the 2019 state runner up for Division 4, which would be the same as 2A here. I would love to see them take on Andrean, Rensselaer, or similar program here.2 points

When Teachers Call the Cops on Parents Whose Kids Skip Their Zoom Classes https://reason.com/2020/08/17/teachers-zoom-classes-parents-child-services-coronavirus/ Another mother, a Spanish-speaking immigrant, requested a virtual meting with a school councillor to discuss her son's behavioral difficulties, which had worsened during pandemic-induced isolation. A few days after she spoke with the counselor, DCF called the mom. Someone at the school—possibly the counselor—had accused the mom of "general neglect" based on "behaviors observed or disclosed during remote learning." The agency spent weeks investigating the matter, interrogating the mother and her son on everything from "the contents of her refrigerator to her son's sleeping location." The allegation was eventually dismissed. A third parent—Christi Brouder, a single mother of four kids—faced frequent threats from teachers that DCF would intervene if the children didn't improve their virtual attendance. Once, when her 10-year-old daughter was tuned in to Zoom class, Brouder's autistic six-year-old son leapt naked in front of the screen. Predictably, the school called the cops: Massachusetts's DCF is not radically different from the child services departments in the other 49 states, and similar issues are probably cropping up elsewhere. The harm is likely to be worse for poorer families, though economic security is by no means a guarantee of safety from predatory child services investigations. The decision to rely partly or entirely on virtual learning has created a horrible situation for many working parents who depend on school for day care. Public school officials should be treating such families with empathy and patience, not putting the authorities on speed dial.1 point

I was at scrimmage. Thought qb looked good other than the 1 interception he under threw. And the line definitely looked better than what I expected.1 point

LOL.. Masks, mail, red meat . . . what isn't political these days? As to my own school, it was a little frustrating (and slightly embarrassing) to see that we had a few fans in the bleachers who took their masks off. Wearing a mask really isn't that bad for a couple of hours. If nothing else, it shows the players that the parents and fans respect their efforts (and that of the coaches) over the last 6 weeks to at least put us in the best position to be able to play on Friday nights.1 point

Andrean and Valpo scrimmaged on Friday night. Valpo looked very good. Big up front on both sides of ball. Valpo looks ready to go. Running game looks like a strength. TBD on passing game. Andrean started off very slow but steadied as scrimmage went along. They have a lot of work still to do. QB play needs to improve fast. They have plenty of skill players and athletes. Both lines need to step up. Andrean has Merrillville Friday. Andrean gets a good look at the two leaders in the DAC. Merrillville absolutely loaded with size and athletes. Valpo has size and athletes as well but not the same as Merrillville. Valpo has very good coaching! I don't see anyone beating these teams until they play each other. After that and barring injury and/or Covid19, both of these teams could be repping the North in Indy in 5A and 6A.1 point

https://hannity.com/media-room/mixed-message-protesters-gather-in-person-to-claim-voting-in-person-too-dangerous-during-pandemic/?fbclid=IwAR01P8ogvSlRGpRIh0js2coZTlZw4Jr-m12Zr44hj91STRHjEukAVRvn3HM Far-left protesters gathered in large crowds this week demanding mail-in voting across the country; ironically holding massive demonstrations in person while claiming in-person voting is too dangerous during the pandemic. Far-left squad-member Ayanna Pressley escalated her war-of-words with the White House over the weekend; calling for “unrest in the streets” as anti-police protests continue to take-over sections of Portland, Seattle, and other major American cities. “This is as much about public outcry, organizing and mobilizing and applying pressure,” Pressley said, “so that this GOP-led Senate and these governors that continue to carry water for this administration, putting American people in harm’s way, turning a deaf ear to the needs of our families and our communities – hold them accountable. “Make the phone calls, send the emails, show up,” she continued. “You know, there needs to be unrest in the streets for as long as there’s unrest in our lives.” "Hey - let's protest in large numbers because it's too dangerous to vote in person......" SMH.....LOL......1 point

After watching the Knox/Tippey Scrimmage. If Knox's QB could dial it in and not throw it to the other team. Radke's run dominant offense should carry them to a sectional title. Their line seemed to be clicking for having such a limited summer. Must be those LOOOONNNG practices.1 point

Incredibly stupid. But then again much of this is complete idiocy to begin with. If both people are "masked up", then what's the issue? If that's so damn important to "keep everyone safe" and people are doing what they've been told and its still not enough, then what are we doing?? Or are masks just a complete waste of time, which most of us already know to begin with. These state and county health departments are run by morons to begin with.1 point

So they offer academic scholarships. Which they have to do to all students. The Pioneer league is a non athletic scholarship conference. But they have roster limits similar to other FCS schools. So being offered a roster spot is a big deal.1 point

Realistically Columbus North being 6A should handle Gibson Southern. Being a Southern fan I just can't go against them. Neither team are push overs and it should be a great game. It will not be any easier for GS week two. Just got to get out healthy and improved.1 point

Well, Oak Hill has a top notch field. It was good for the team to go against somebody other than the scout squad. Saw where we were lacking in some areas, but overall a great effort by the Trojans. How’d the Rebels( hope I don’t offend anyone) do?1 point

I fear you’re fighting an uphill battle, my friend. Unfortunately, this is no longer primarily a public health issue. All sides have “weaponized” the pandemic for use in political warfare. So, decisions are often driven by concerns other than public health.1 point
