  1. Really looking forward to see how the Northridge vs. Mishawaka game shakes out. I think that has the potential to be a really really good game. A true measuring stick for both teams. I think NorthWood crushes Concord. The Minutemen are 2-0 this season, but I don't think Elkhart or Jimtown are going to end up being that good this year. Toilet Bowl of the Year, part 1 tonight in the Maple City. Part 2 will take place next week in Syracuse. The trilogy ends September 29th in Plymouth. Warsaw needs to make sure they play more disciplined football on the offensive side of the ball tonight. They should have no trouble with Plymouth, but if they keep putting the ball on the ground, who knows what can/will happen at that point. If they play clean, they'll win by multiple scores. If they stay sloppy, the Pilgrims just might hang around.

  14. There is no East and North district. How awful to have role models, successful young people, at recess with your child. I can't imagine the teachers ever needing a break/help with an elementary student.

  15. Arguably, Roncalli has fielded a MAC size team the last 3 or so years with a line that most likely was the biggest in the state - all classes. A simple return to normalcy would make the current group small comparatively. I do understand that they are a little dinged up currently but anyone overlooking Roncalli either now or around playoff team is likely to be in for a rude awakening.

  16. Well, I haven’t seen the Referee’s report, so I don’t know if he said anything. But he clearly came in way late to the scuffle and delivered a two-handed shot to the chest of the opponent. Don’t recall if he took him off his feet, or just knocked him back a couple of yards.

  19. There is no "East" district. North going to Elementary schools to read. They aren't there to recruit, Yes maybe one 16 year old took a fun discussion too far at recess once. Eeeesh. 5th grade= 11 years old, HS FR are 14/15 and stupidly immature. Really not that preposterous. They weren't sent there to "recruit" elementary school kids. lol Truthfully... if I were an East fan I would be a lot more pissed off about the stunt your XC coach pulled against North than anything else North is doing right now. Probably the weakest move I've ever heard of by a HC. But they do play a significantly better schedule than East, currently.

  20. Center Grove vs Trinty should have a large crowd. The weather is going to be awesome, and it is also bantam night so, if you are going to the game I would not wait until the last minute, or you will be standing in line buying a ticket when the game starts.

  21. Biggest questions/storylines for week 3 games: 1. Can MD bounce back and win at home, or does Vincennes beat MD for 2nd year in a row? 2. Can Bosse score enough points to keep up with Castle? Can Bosse force a turnover or punt on Castle? 3. Can Jasper sustain drives, control the clock, and stay in the game against Reitz? Can Jasper get any stops on Reitz? 4. Can Central put 1 score on Memorial? Does Memorial have running clock by halftime? 5. Can Harrison put 1 score on North? Does North have running clock by halftime?

  22. Back and forth for the first quarter and a half. Some pretty poor game management and bad execution gave Brownsburg the lead at halftime and then they exerted their will on Cathedral in second half. I think depth is going to be a major concern for Cathedral the rest of this year and magnified even more playing in 6A.

  23. While a loss is never fun, last weeks game was a positive for Cathedral. The Lafayette Jefferson game did not really show where they stand (starters never played after halftime). Last week against Brownsburg they got to get a good look an all areas of the team. Yes they had some bad moments, but that also leads to coachable things from film to improve. I saw nothing in the game against Brownsburg that couldn't be fixed, having it on film is definitely what they needed. Typically I like to see how teams improve from week 1 to week 2 when they have got something on film and can get to work on coaching. For me that is this week for Cathedral how will they improve from week 2 to week 3. Brownsburg was a very good football team. Lafayette Jefferson was in more of a rebuild and not having their starting QB and RB made it even worse. Penn will be a much better team than Lafayette Jefferson was. I personally feel you will see improvements in areas the Irish struggled in last week Offensively and Defensively. Ultimately regardless of the rankings or wins and losses the main goal is to be better come Tournament time. This will be a good little stretch for the Irish with Penn, Chatard, Frederick Douglas, and Lasalle in 4 of the next 5 games.

  24. Three biggest storylines to follow IMO: - how good is Bosse? Will they hang with Castle, get blown out, or possibly even win? - can Jasper remotely stay close to Reitz? - Will MD bounce back from their blowout loss to Castle?

  25. Pioneers offensive workhorses are the qb and fb. Currently our young backs are both playing TE. One of our best jr high athletes last year starts at safety as a freshman and will be a solid back as he matures.

  27. The thing about math is that there are multiple ways of looking at things to get to your end result. I especially like story problems. So here is a story problem for you. North Judson San Pierre has a football team. There are 40 players on the team. They play Culver Military Academy this Friday night. North Judson struggles kicking field goals and they are more likely to score on a 2 point conversion as statistics tell us that if you are 50% in 2 point conversions, you are 100% in field goals. Trojan67 predicted the Blue Jays will score 24 points in this game. In American Football, a touchdown is 6 points. How many touchdowns can the Blue Jays score to get to 24? How many touchdowns and 2 point conversions do they need to get to 24? How many safeties can they get if the Blue Jays dont score a touchdown? Please show your work for all the questions. Sorry, my sarcasm is running pretty thick today.

  29. I see BD coming out on top and possibly undefeated in the MIC. I see LC taking the second spot. Then a toss up between WC and LN. Pike and then NC. If we are including Carmel and CG I see them at two and three, but a possible upset of LC over Carmel. But BD is my pick to win 6A this year.

  30. I had a HS student the other night complement me at a MIDDLE SCHOOL game on my officiating. (No comment on what I was doing there) But the larger point is. He said he'd like to become an official. Then asked. "What do I do take a couple of classes?".... I tried as best as possible to speak with him, (since I was the LJ this evening) about the art of officiating. But it seems that no one understands that just like PLAYING the game, we ALL must practice/practice/practice to become better; This is NOT a hobby! It is much more than that. UGH! 🤔
    1 point
  31. Correct. The IHSAA piloted this class last year with a few HSs around the state. They are very involved with the efforts to recruit new officials as well. We'll see how good engagement and follow up is from them and the local officials as well.

  32. I think there are a few HS who have started "officiating" as PE class for upper grade students. The goal being to teach them a little about officiating and even get them licensed as patched officials. No offense to avid bowlers and pickleball players out there, but I would rather see students enrolled in that than a Lifetime Sports PE class. I attended a MS volleyball game last week (read: torture lol) and someone remarked that the HS girl working as a line judge was doing so as a requirement for her officiating class. This is all secondhand info but I'm fairly certain it is happening, and a positive change IMO.

  34. Franklin county wildcats with turf!!! That looks awesome!! No more long grass, and muddy fields!! If fc had that turf in early 90's, Alex Smith might of ran 4.2 40 on that field, instead of 4.4 in that long grass!! Lol

  35. I think it’s a combination of things. I love Coach Vogel but he’s no Coach Gaddis and that was to be expected. I guess the hardest part for me is that I anticipated the fall-off to be gradual. I expected a 6-4 season at some point after Gaddis left. Instead, we went from 8-3 in Gaddis’ last year to 4-6 to another 4-6. And with the way things are looking thus far, we may be lucky to get to 4-6 again. I think not having Gaddis has something to do with it. I think the coaching staff turnover as a whole has something to do with it. And I also think talent level has something to do with it. Stevie Brown, the Kiel boys, Markell Jones, etc. all had hype surrounding them from the time they were in middle school. When’s the last time East has had kids like that on the team? Granted, coaching should develop players and it has in the past. Therefore, I think all three factors are at play here. There may even be more that I’m not mentioning. I’d heard numbers had dropped off at the youth levels and East definitely isn’t near its peak numbers either. So that could be a fourth factor. And now that I think about it, size is another factor. The kids lately don’t have the size, strength, and musculature that the elite East teams had. Go to my profile, check out my banner photo, and tell me if you’ve seen an East team looking that big in awhile.

  36. Two things: 1: I have been charged with traing a group of high schoolers to officiate youth Football games. Rule 2 is on the agenda for Wednesday night. Rule 2 for those who don’t know is titles “Definitions”. One of the items in Rule 2 worth noting is there is a definition for a “forward” pass and a “backward” pass but there is no definition for a “lateral”. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. 2. If the line to gain after the penalty enforcement is gained it will be 1st down. If the line to gain was not reached after enforcement it will be loss of down. So if the play happened on 3rd down it will now be 4th down. A new series can not start on any down other than 1st.

  37. I never once mentioned 6A in the post you are referring to. I only said our schedule is tougher, and it is. There are scouts at nearly every game because of the level of kids we are playing. Look at our schedule and compare it to East's schedule. HHC is weak as water, so what if you are the top of that conference (and East isn't anymore)? Southport is 6A but far from the level of competition of other schools on our schedule. Sounds like you are still stuck in the glory days. Napoleon Dynamite wants his steak back uncle Rico. But if you would like to go to the way back machine, I do believe the Bulldogs beat the East 2017 state championship team. 😄 Kate is awesome! She's helped my kid get back on track several times. She's helped countless others. North has always had excellent trainer's since we have been there.
