  1. I have so many people to thank. Nah, not really…just glad I kicked @gonzoron’s ass. Thanks for putting this on again. It was fun.

BCHS vs Center Grove is: 31-14 CG BCHS vs Brownsburg is: 34-17 BB BCHS vs Ben Davis is: 31-19 BD BCHS vs East Central is: 22-19 EC I believe these are the 4 you have above BCHS in your latest top 25. 8. I'm pretty sure that track seeds individual events--giving preferential lane and heat assignments to the best times and field event marks. I'm pretty sure swimming does this, too. I don't think there's any way to seed teams, just individuals. For sectionals, there used to be qualifying marks way back in the old days, but for the last 30 years or so, I believe schools have been allotted 2 individuals per event and 1 relay team, unless they had 3 or more individuals meet the state meet qualifying standard.

  9. If we're just doing picks I think I should be able to do it. If it was a bracket challenge then I think I'll need some help. How do we feel about the 100 game total format? Yes/No? Was thinking of doing something similar to that.

  15. Earlier in the week, @Bobref started a thread titled "Sectional Draw 2023" and the thread kind of went a couple directions away from the intended purpose. One of those directions pertained to the notion that 6A and 1A should be the classifications with 32 teams rather than 6A and 5A. This topic interested me, and I decided to take a deep dive researching it. It took me about ten hours total over the course of several days to compile. I'm not saying this to get a pat on the back, but to help you understand I didn't just breeze through it without any deep thought or research. Nevertheless, for this particular scenario, I compiled lists for 1A through 5A using the most recent enrollment numbers the IHSAA released (which was two years ago). I excluded 6A since it obviously wouldn't be affected by the change. In compiling the classification lists, the goal was to base it off this specific year's tournament in regard to the Fort Wayne Dwenger situation and the teams playing up due to the success factor. The 1A through 5A breakdown for this year's tournament is the following: 5A - 31 teams 4A - 64 teams 3A - 64 teams 2A - 62 teams 1A - 58 teams Total - 279 teams I wanted to keep these numbers as similar as possible. This meant that 5A would have 63 teams rather than 64 as a result of the IHSAA moving FW Dwenger down in the middle of the classification period. Therefore, these were the classification numbers I came up with: 5A - 63 teams 4A - 64 teams 3A - 64 teams 2A - 56 teams 1A - 32 teams Total - 279 teams After compiling lists for the classifications, I wanted to look at the ranges for each classification from the largest school to the smallest school. See below. 5A (63 teams) Largest School: Harrison (WL) - 2,079 students Smallest School: New Haven - 1,064 students 4A (64 teams) Largest School: Kankakee Valley - 1,062 students Smallest School (aside from the success factor team): Bellmont - 641 students Success Factor Team: Evansville Memorial - 556 students 3A (64 teams) Largest School: John Glenn - 638 students Smallest Schools: North Putnam and Tell City - 444 students 2A (56 teams) Largest School: Indianapolis Scecina - 439 students Smallest School: Covington - 294 students Success Factor Team: Lafayette Central Catholic - 296 students 1A (32 teams) Largest School: Fremont - 291 students Smallest School: Attica - 170 students Here are the ranges from the scenario above compared to the current numbers (excluding success factor teams): 5A: 1,064 - 2,079 (currently 1,513 - 2,079) 4A: 641 - 1,062 (currently 795 - 1,510) 3A: 444 - 638 (currently 511 - 790) 2A: 294 - 439 (currently 379 - 510) 1A: 170 - 291 (currently 170 - 378) Instead of just compiling a list of classifications given the scenario, I wanted to get the full scope of what this could look like as it pertains to sectional assignments. As a result, I put together classification maps and spent a ton of time trying to come up with sectional assignments that limit travel time as best as possible while also ensuring schools from the same school district aren't split up. I cannot stress enough how hard I tried to keep travel times down. I flirted with many different scenarios by looking at the travel times on Google Maps but some long trips just couldn't be helped. It's important to note I'm only including these sectional assignments to give you an idea of how 1A through 5A could look given the hypothetical 32 team 1A scenario. I'm not necessarily saying this is how they should look. See the link below to view the classification/sectional assignment maps. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1SqvN_8IxXWiJQxvs4E0RSxadUGh_f9k&usp=sharing Here are the sectional assignments I came up with. 5A (63) Sectional 9 (8): East Chicago Central, Gary West, Hammond Central, Hammond Morton, Harrison (WL), Lowell, McCutcheon, Munster Sectional 10 (8): Chesterton, Hobart, LaPorte, Merrillville, Michigan City, Mishawaka, South Bend Adams, Valparaiso Sectional 11 (8): Columbia City, Concord, Goshen, Huntington North, Kokomo, Logansport, Northridge, Plymouth Sectional 12 (7): DeKalb, Fort Wayne North, Fort Wayne Snider, Fort Wayne South, Fort Wayne Wayne, Muncie Central, New Haven Sectional 13 (8): Anderson, Greenfield-Central, Indianapolis Attucks, Indianapolis Roncalli, Mt. 20. The recent history for those schools is SR beats Linton four years in a row, loses year five, then has them replaced with Washington. HH replaces VL with MD (a big upgrade at the time), loses two years in a row, then replaces them with Mt. Vernon. I've never gotten an answer as to why either series ended. (SR v Linton, HH v MD) Both seamed to make sense from a schedule and competitive standpoint. In the new PAC most non-conference games are cross division. The only non-PAC games with 3a or larger schools are Washington vs Edgewood (4a) and Tell City vs Hancock County (3a if they were Indiana), and GS vs IMG acadamy.

  30. Sectional 24 Bedford NL 42 Harrison 7 - Warriors fail to wake up the echos of Ryan Hales and CJ Hedgepeth, the authors of the last Harrison team to win a sectional in 2015. Boonville 14 Reitz 35 - Panthers make up for the close loss last year. However, a Reitz assistant coach is forced to run the stairs of Reitz Bowl every day next week after exclaiming, “Hey Pioneers, have you had Benough?”, after Ben Davies throws his second TD. Memorial 48 Central 7 - Coach Hurley cancels his membership in the Coach Prime fan club after the Buffalos embarrassing loss to the Stanford Cardinal . Bryan Harsin reaches out to the the Central Bears about the prospect of an unpaid assistant coaching position. Jasper 35 at Bosse 32 - Coach Lewis instructs staff to deflate all of the practice balls and shows a nonstop highlight loop of Herschel Walker, Red Grange, Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, and other great running backs to emphasize the Wildcats run first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth…identity. Sectional 30 Vincennes 26 Owen Valley 13 - Coach Salters arranges a FaceTime between Luke Lindsey and Curtis Painter to get Painter’s insights into playoff football (Somewhere Jim Mora has a heart palpitation at the mere mention of playoffs). Sectional 40 Mater Dei 28 Tell City 26 - After a narrow win, Coach Goebel, recalling a chance meeting he had with Abe Lincoln in his first year at Mater Dei, awkwardly shares with a befuddled Coach Webb his favorite Lincoln quote, “I will prepare and some day my chance will come.” Coach Webb shakes his head as he thanks Goebel.

  32. They're good. They have a very dangerous QB/RB combo. Only losses were close games against good teams. Don't see any way Harrison stays in the game. Reitz (assuming they win) will absolutely have their hands full, especially having to make the long trip there.

  33. I’ll just go ahead and say it. Northern Indiana has better depth than southern Indiana when it comes to football. That’s not to say southern Indiana doesn’t have good teams but we don’t have as many of them. For whatever reason, it’s most evident at the 3A level (real or hypothetical) right now.

  34. oh lets be real legitimate move of residences. When you hear about certain programs having "ins" on rental properties under "someone's LLC". This isn't a case where a kid isn't playing and leaving. Why would a starting QB in one program leave to literally sit the bench for another, especially when the program he went to has a 3 year starter/NIC 1st team All-Conference last season. Not to mention the current starter is a junior. Maybe some should of listened to the comments about the HC and his staff of Playstation Coaches that I made last season. We can go back and check those receipts too. Because they were spot on and most got #$## hurt, lol. One week you have a DC following officials out of the stadium and into the parking lot making threats over "Holding". Then a week or two later you have another coach making a more menacing threat to a certain players parent. Not hard to figure out who I'm referring to. If that doesn't fall under the hardship clause. Then what do we consider a hardship?

  41. Here are my thoughts on this season in the NLC as well as going forward into the post season. Congratulations to Warsaw and Mishawaka...well deserved co champs! I think this season was one of the more competative seasons within the NLC. At the begging of the season, I don't think there was a full on favorite to win the crown. Warsaw / Mishawaka / NW / Northridge all had a chance with Concord not that too far of a stretch. My biggest takeaways from the regular season was actually the bottom half of the conference. Plymouth / Goshen / Wawasee all showed great improvment from previous years (not looking at the records). Plymouth...2 years since a win, that is a huge mental hurdle to jump over. Wawasee's record shows only 1 win...but those kids came to play every game and made every team they played work for it. Then there is Goshen...while I don't understand what is going on with Goshen's program...I know they have about 10 kids going both ways and those fellas give it their all. I really hope numbers improve...they have a good coach, great facilities and a passionate fan base. It was a fun season...and now on to the post season: Our big boys have the week off and in my opinion all of the NLC teams will make it to week 2 of sectionals. Northridge at Logansport: Logansport runs that offense that no likes to prepare for, however, I feel like Warsaw and Mishawaka run it much better than Logansport and NR has seen it before. I don't think Northridge will have any troubles beating the mighty berries from Logansport. If I remember correctly, the visiting teams locker room at Logansport is about the size of a broom closet...hopefully the weather will permit Northridge to hang out under the trees rather than cram in there (I base this on the covid year when NW played at Logansport / I don't remember the away locker rooms being that large nor having air conditioning but I could be wrong). Northridge 49 Logansport 14 Wawasee at Riley: Riley getting that NIC championship...good for them as it has been...a few..years for them. I think that Wawasee's schedule was better than Riley's and Wawasee played everyone really well. I think Wawasee may win its first playoff game in 10-11 years! Wawasee 21 Riley 13 Plymouth at Washington: This was probably the best draw for both teams to get a 1st round victory. This may turn out to be a good game. I again think that Plymouth has played a better season than Washington. I think this will be close, however, Plymouth will come out on top. Plymouth 28 Washington 7 NorthWood at St. Joe: I think NW has figured out their defense and have made adjustments when necessary. I don't feel like this game will be too competative. St. Joe beat whom they should have this year and lost to whom most would have guessed. I will take NW by possibly a running clock at some point. NW 49 St. Joe 14 All in all I think all the NLC teams playing this week will be playing in round two. Good luck to everyone!

  43. I appreciate the amount of work that went into this, and I agree with this in concept. Let me be the first to suggest: Move Lutheran out of this version of 1A.

  44. So, what happened here is easily explained, it turns out. After an administrative stoppage, the play clock is set at 0:25 and starts on the R’s ready for play signal. The linesman had not yet gotten to his position on the visiting sideline, so the R had not yet signaled the ball ready. Elkhart ran up to the line in a hurry to try and draw New Prairie into the neutral zone, and it worked. But since the ball had not been made ready for play, there was no foul. The R was yelling to the QB “wait, wait” but they started to run the play anyway. So, no foul. The U should not have moved off the ball until all crew members were in position.

  45. I’ll be as unambiguous as possible. The tight end, assuming he’s on the end of the line, may put a hand or hands on or near the ground, and then pick up, without it being a false start.
