I encourage folks to read the entire article I tried to embed the 17 minute video from the article on here unsuccessfully. I hope the powers to be are able to find a way to keep the Wolfpack program alive. Its easy to say just shut it down, but you may have a different view if you take the time and watch that video on top of the page of the article4 points

How do you propose the golf or cross country teams profit from the meets? Since football and basketball programs are generally the only ones to generate a profit should they be the only ECAs allowed to exist? The hell with band, robotics, chess, dance, math, knowledge bowl, etc?3 points

I don't know how a person could stand in front of those players and tell them they are no longer allowed to play football because they aren't good enough. That them not playing will make high school football in Indiana more competitive. Then tell the other sports programs that their funding will be cut because the football program is being shutdown. Then tell the cheerleaders, band members and fans (which I was actually surprised that there were so many) to find something else to do on Friday nights. Just a few more schools to tell this to and then maybe we can get down to that magic number to make Indiana high school football competitive!3 points

That video is something that all players, coaches, fans, communities, etc. should watch regardless of program origin. There's much more going on than what the game tape or the scoreboard shows. Sometimes need these kinds of things to remind us to stop and take a breath and to be grateful for whatever program we have. I kept listening to the kids in that video and, despite everything going on that they deal with ... whether its classes, jobs, mistakes, family situations, etc. I just kept hearing hope, positivity, and character. If you haven't watched the video, like @Coach Nowlin said, I'd highly encourage you to spend the 17 minutes to watch it. I won't lie, it is emotional in many directions ... but well worth the watch.3 points

Thanks Coach. It was a challenging season for sure. Wouldn't change it though. Got a handful of great kids here and I don't know what I'd do without them.2 points

That is a powerful story, I don't have to tell you. You lived it. I have always been impressed by the grit and effort of your teams. Character is revealed in the toughest of times, your kids are examples of that. You have done a great job considering the circumstances.2 points

Participation in high school activities in Colorado hits an all-time high ... https://chsaanow.com/2019-07-15/participation-in-high-school-activities-in-colorado-hits-an-all-time-high/ FTA: This year, a total of 82.53% of the total membership enrollment participated in high school activities in one form or another. That includes 59.35% in sports, and 23.18% in activities. This marks the 21st consecutive year that sports participation has been above 54% of the total membership enrollment, and eighth of the past nine that it has surpassed 58%. CHSAA's largest activity is music, with 41,499 participants. Football is the second-largest with 16,888 participants, the sport's highest figure since 2012-13, and is followed by boys basketball (11,723), girls volleyball (11,672), boys track (10,243), and girls basketball (9,045). Boys basketball saw the largest increase in terms of percentage, growing 27% from 2017-18 to 2018-19. Girls basketball had the second-biggest growth, jumping up 24%. Girls volleyball showed the third-fastest growth (23%) and hockey and spirit (both 13%) were fourth. Overall, 14 sports and two activities showed growth from the previous season.2 points

You’ve been out of the loop for a loooong time haven’t you? Small schools with multiple sports programs are fundraising from the same small community year round from the same sources ALL. YEAR. Most people can only afford so much.2 points

All you New Prairie fans better hope you win because if you don’t, I don’t want to see any tails between the legs. Also, I have yet to see anything that absolutely says that NP will win definitively. Anyone that discounts Plymouth’s passing game or defense is sorely misinformed. I just don’t want to hear any whining, crying, or complaining when the Rockies show up playing like it’s a hs sectional championship and not a pee wee league championship.2 points

Exactly. I did send AVD a personal message, I have nothing to hide. I think anyone can see that his posts are personal, like he has some underlying issues. So I sent him a message and asked him what his issue was, and if he has a personal beef. I didn't whine, I was simply offering him an opportunity to air his personal grievances in a more private and personal manner. Nothing more, nothing less. But obviously he isn't a guy who would handle things that way. Much easier to rant incoherently behind an alias than to actually man up. Whatever, best of luck to you Art. I hope you can someday move past whatever it is that troubles you.2 points

I think AVD needs a time out..... What a temper tantrum! Not sure what you're trying to accomplish AVD....but I assure you...you're making a fool out of yourself.2 points

I've always understood your position on contraction and ECAs at public schools but don't you think there are larger ramifications for all the students than just the 15 football players? You wouldn't just be shuttering the football team.2 points

Art is not smart, just read what he says. He's literally the Grid's dumbest poster. 51-13 was the score of last year's Dogs vs Indians game. I don't normally brag about the many times the Dogs have beat Milan as it's a game we're supposed to win. If Milan does beat the Ville they should proud, and celebrate, but only a fool would brag. See the Dogs have been fortunate enough to beat the Mighty Trojans a handful of times over the years as well. We were proud, we celebrated, but bragging about beating a team who has our number more often than not would just be stupid. Not smart Art...well....he's just not smart. Not smart Art keeps trying to make jabs about Coach Hep's record compared to the current coach's, or flag football references, and I'm really not sure why. It sounds as though he has an axe to grind? I don't care about any of that, I'm a Bulldog Football fan. Coach Hep is a great guy, and he was a great coach. So great that even a chump from Milan commends him. 25-19 you say? "Good but not anywhere near Coach Heppner's standards" you say? Once again not so smart Art proves just what a stupid chump he really is....Coach Hep's record was 21-23 in his first 4 years. So...according to not smart Art, the Dogs have a VERY bright future!! Do yourself a favor chump and stay off the Grid, it's only for big boys.2 points

Honest to God, I was there pregame for about 30 minutes. I was walking up to the ticket booth with the money in hand, toes still not thawed out from 2008 Enlow, no kids playing anymore......and I kept thinking “Why in the Hell are you doing this when the game is live in your own toasty warm home just 10 minutes away?” At that point, I did an about face, walked to my car, called Papa John’s and picked up a pizza that I ate in my kitchen while watching the game. Felt a little guilty but when I bail out on anything involving cold weather (which I often do these days) I blame it on the injuries acquired on the Enlow Polar Expedition of ‘08.2 points

I believe it has to do with bracket placement. The winner of sectional 16 will host the regional.1 point

Some students in county schools don't have the transportation to get back and forth from practice. The bus ride is the only way to get from point a to point b. This could contribute to students opting out of participating.1 point

No video stream. But for those in the Dubois/Spencer County area, our sister television station, WJTS-18, will show this game on replay. Air times are Saturday, Nov. 9th at 10am Eastern/9am Central and Sunday, Nov. 10th at 7pm Eastern/6pm Central.1 point

That's part of the issue but not by any means THE ISSUE. The story really doesn't get into other sports but the boys could barely field a cross country team, the band can barely field a Band or whatever. The boys basketball went to the state finals in 2017 and the next year had only 16 kids come out. And so on and so on.1 point

I understand your point, however I am not sure it has so much to do with success as it does survival. Remember we are talking about the poorest county in the state, where undoubtedly many students have to work to help pay the bills or to buy the goods they want (i.e. a car, clothes, cell phone, etc.). I knew a student at my former school who never played a sport because he had to help pay the bills. It is unfortunate, but these families do exist and it affects more than just the sport teams. Student grades and college/trade school opportunities are hurt because a student doesn't have the "basic" skills.1 point

I don't know 8Ball...I think if the Donald was behind CK9, we would see something like: Angry Art, Mouthy Milan Art, Envious Art, Little Tonto or Chief Running Mouth. I was starting to get annoyed with him....but now its become entertaining!1 point

I highly doubt that Cathedral would be overlooking Decatur Central after DC beat them in the Sectional Championship last year 21-14. If I were to guess I would think they might be even more motivated and have had this game circled knowing it was a possibility. I also do not think they will overlook Kenny Tracy after he ran for 96 yds 1 TD and had 61 yards receiving 1TD. Last year the QB ran for 117 yards so I would think they won't be overlooking any position..1 point

Whatever you say! South Adams in my opinion will be representing the north in 1A at the state finals. But you just hold on to your stats and theories. Maybe if Mississinewa had all their players healthy against Eastbrook then MG would win this week and Epstein would not have killed himself!1 point

I guess you haven’t paid attention to 1A football. I would love to see MG win, but I think you have a better chance of being struck by lightning!1 point

Kind of a less happening playoff thread than past years so I’ll stir the pot a little bit. I’ve got Chatard BIG. The golden eagles have played both and I like the Trojans style of play. Chatard has had a running clock the second half of nearly every game this year (exception is those cathedral guys) and I believe this is the best chatard team we have possibly ever seen. The running back reminds me of another shorter workhorse they had back in 2012. Hartley has gotta be a chatard legend. I digress, but I’ve made my point before here in this thread. The O-Line is spectacular, great receivers, great backs, a qb who is deceiving, and linebackers and safeties that will hit somebody and come back for more the next play. I can’t wait for this matchup and as a neutral, I hope for a close game. I struggle to see it going this way. To the boys from West Lafayette, go play the best that you can and try to prove people like me wrong. To the boys from chatard, play the physical ball you’ve played all season, but dont get complacent. Get better this week. Complacency and overconfidence kills teams in the playoffs.1 point

I would say yes , as Plymouth has already beaten 6A Warsaw this year . Pretty much the same unique offense new Prairie runs .1 point

Single elimination tournaments are designed to crown a champion, not parse out who the best team is. In my examples above, the losers win those games 9 times out of 10. Herb Brooks said it best in his pregame speech to the US Hockey Team before the game with the USSR in 1980, if we play them 10 times, they will win 9, but not this game, not tonight. Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world.1 point

The Memorial at Central rematch will be one hell of a game this Friday. The East Central vs Mooresville will be another great game too. But this WL/BC game is going to determine which team will advance to LOS, so it's going to be a very very GREAT game.1 point
