They are working on a fresh start. New field last year, upgraded the gym floor, new ball diamonds, soccer field and Aux gym. Now, like you said, get the community to back them up.

I just got a chance to read this and I am so thankful to be able to meet people like this and work with some top notch school systems. A Positive Story.docx In this strange unpredictable world of Covid-19, I have a very positive story I would like to share with you. Last week my team, the Rensselaer Central Bombers prepared very hard for our next opponent, the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights. We were scheduled for a major Hoosier Conference showdown to be played at their place. My team came to school wearing their game jerseys all fired up for the big game. At 9:00am after my first class I teach, our school athletic director, informed me that the game had been cancelled by Central Catholic due to Covid issues. With less than 10 hours to go before kick off, I expressed to our athletic director that I would like to see if any team is out there available and willing to play on such short notice and he agreed. Within an hour we had our opponent. The North Knox Warriors had two games already cancelled on them this season due to Covid. Pike Central cancelled on them for last Friday. As fate had it, by 11am on Friday, our athletic director, Ken Hickman had reached out to North Knox’s athletic director, Kent Doades and the next thing I knew was we would be playing a football game on Saturday. With North Knox being 3 1/2 hours away, the next issue was where would this game be played? That’s where this story gets even better. Covington High School was contacted to see if they would be willing to host this game as a neutral site. The athletic director there, Trent McCormick was gracious enough to accept the game as a neutral site host. So, this past Saturday the Rensselaer Central Bombers and the North Knox Warriors got together in Covington, Indiana and played a 48 minute game of high school football. Both communities came to Covington to support their teams. For two teams that had never played each other in any sport, this was a first. Hats off to all three schools and their athletic directors and administration for allowing this to happen. Needless to say it was a beautiful afternoon of pads popping, fans cheering, and sportsmanship by all. It was a great time by all! I am not going to share the score with you because it doesn’t matter. What mattered was we played! Finally, thank you to all of you at the IHSAA for having the foresight to allow us to play high school sports this Fall. It has meant so much for our student athletes, coaches, parents, and communities. Through your guidance and leadership it is amazing to see us entering Week 7 in football. My guess is to prevent the "watch parties" that they blasted out on social media during the draw the last few years.

I have coached at Anderson High School. In my opinion one of the biggest issues with Anderson is the community. They won’t let go of the past. This is 2020 not 1985. Highland and Madison Heights are gone and aren’t coming back. Overall they need a fresh start in all athletics from top to bottom with new ideas and new culture.

Now, I am just saying, I have had some bad film from bad places. But, never from Caston. There is no track, so your right on top of the action.

I keep telling the IHSAA and other coaches that the watch parties on Sunday with players and coaches is a violation of IHSAA By Laws.

I'll be surprised if that's the only thing they complain about before the week is over. There's always the perennial "Heights players living in Tipton County" story brought up. (There are at least 2 that I know of this year, they're brothers. .) And I always make it a point every year during game week to walk my dog the 100 yards or so into Tipton County so he can leave them a nice "gift".

Perhaps...or perhaps a day when conference bonds meant something was a better time.

I agree with you Coach Qualls is a great man. I’m proud to call him a friend and mentor.

And, unfortunately, it seems like we haven’t come very far in terms of religious tolerance in 60 yrs. And I have to laugh at the idea that someone, even the pope, is going to make a puppet out of an associate justice of the Supreme Court. @DanteEstonia apparently hasn’t met too many federal judges. No one tells them anything. 😜

Some of you probably already realized this but we’ll be getting brand new conference schedules starting next year. Games will be reordered once again and all nine weeks of the regular season will contain at least one HHC team playing a non-conference game. It’ll be interesting to see how each team fills in those open weeks. We could be seeing matchups we’ve either never seen before or matchups we haven’t seen in a long time. On the flip side, I wonder if teams might struggle finding an opponent for those open weeks.

I hope not. That's one tradition that needs to END. It's embarrassing. If they do, I'll know who it was. Our manager knows everything about every player.

The real question is, will Heights players make their way to the Tipton field tomorrow night? They skipped last year, can they make it 2 in a row? As for the game, Heights is playing great lately and Tipton has been hit hard by the injury bug. 3 weeks ago I would have said Tipton by however much they want. Now, I think we will have a great ball game.

If this is the only/worst thing to impact to the tournament this year I’ll take it

If this is the same Trent McCormick that was the wrestling coach at Yorktown (which I am confident it is), he is absolutely an amazing guy, my brother wrestled for him, as did I for a short period of time. Great dude, and much respect!

No Coach Ralph didn't change his offense to fit the big fella. They have run the same offense since he has been at New Pal. When he had a couple special QB's they had a few more passing yards, but they still threw the ball with CS. They have always ran inside and outside zone with or without CS. Coach Ralph did a really cool thing during the shutdown going through games over his time. The sky isn't falling for New Pal, I mean they are 4-1 played a good one with Mt. Vernon who looks to be pretty darn good. Who knows what happened in the GC game. Could have had a bad game (that can happen with young players learning), could have had players out (injury/covid), G-C could be making excellent strides. I know New Pal lost a lot of very good players to graduation (I believe entire secondary). That being said it doesn't mean as tournament play comes or even next year the players filling those holes won't continue to get better as they continue to be very well coached and gain precious game experience.

Anyone that touched him? Seriously, the Posey County health department needs their heads examined. What’s the over under on how many of those 16 become positive with COVID...I’ll take the under.

There’s a certain school on the East Side of Indianapolis licking their chops hoping New Pal makes it out of sectionals....

I didn't say it was impossible to be successful....the level of impact can vary program to program. It might effect you (bad luck) it might effect your opponents (good luck). It is just a bad year to accurately address trajectory given the differing impacts of this crazy season.

People who know me know that I have posted in the past: HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, THE GREATEST GAME ON THE PLANET!!! This story is just one more reason that I have made that statement. For something like this to occur (and especially at the last minute) warms my old heart. To see not two, but three schools come together and allow these student athletes to play the game they love is well, just heart warming. Considering how many teams have not gotten to play this year, I'm genuinely happy for those who can. It goes beyond "kudos" for making something like this happen. As a fan, I give my humble thanks to the 3 programs that provided this opportunity for these young athletes and their fans. And as a fan of football, I now have 2 more teams to follow (I already followed North Knox since they are on Linton's schedule). No comment about a Linton/Rensy Central series?

Monrovia is much improved and heading in the right direction for sure. Their staff has them playing hard and getting after it!

No, I hope I'm wrong and Linton wins sectional 40. LOL But that would be a homer calling it and I won't do that. Linton is a very young team this year. They still sometimes play with the tendencies of youth. They are still a good team but not good enough that I would say they could beat all of the other teams in 40. Mater Dei doesn't play ANY 1A or 2A teams on their schedule. Playing in the SIAC they are the smallest team in that conference. They play two 5A, two 3A and five 4A teams. And keep in mind some of those teams are usually ranked in their classes every year. This year they have lost 6 - 3 to 5A Castle but just beat 5A North by two scores. And it was AT North. Tell City has played two 3A schools and beat Heritage Hills 32 - 0 but this is probably the worst team that HH has had since 2013. I believe they lost a lot to graduation since they were 14 - 1 last year and played at state. Tell City just lost to Southridge 14 - 12. So I based picking Mater Dei over Tell City on those facts and not what MD has done historically. Had Tell City won against Southridge, I might call it a bit different. At any rate, I'm hoping for a few good draws in the sectional so we get some good games. After reading this, you'd think I was a Mater Dei fan. Trust me, I'm far from it. Just giving props to those with good teams and good programs. I get that a team can have a good game on any given night, but so far on current resumes, I'd have to say Mater Dei is still top dog in 40. And don't forget, this isn't Coach Goebel's first rodeo either. Best of luck and good health to all teams in sectional 40!

Never really thought much about that, always enjoy going places that take care of the stripes, some really seem to take pride in it. What can I say, most officials are prima donnas, a program, a clean towel, some water, a candy bar, something to eat after the game are really appreciated. As I said some schools really take pride in this, some schools clearly view us as a necessary evil, and don’t put much effort into it. As far as stadiums, in no particular order: East Central Roncalli Enlow Field CG Linton Heritage Hills New Albany Gibson Southern Jasper, though I miss the pregame pop in from Coach Brewer in the locker room. ***Reitz Bowl*** has been on my bucket list, we were suppose to be there this year, but a software glitch screwed the pooch, we will be there next year. Brownstown can be fun for big games with the crowd on Elm Street. I like different stadiums for different reasons, some are just cool stadiums, some have a very football savvy crowd, some have a big crowd regardless of the game. Nothing more fun for me than a tournament game or a big rivalry game with full stands, temp bleachers, and stacked about 3 deep all around the track. Friday nights are fun for me regardless of where we are or what game we’re doing, but some do have a cherry on top. Working at larger venues does have a novelty, but the novelty wears off quickly for me. Game times are off, it’s not on the schools’s campus, and you’re kinda left to fend for yourself. LOS isn’t bad, but you need three goats and a Sherpa to get to the dressing room. RCA was probably my fave as far as working the game. The old Cardinal Stadium at the Fairgrounds in Louisville was a dump with a horrible surface. Our dressing room was thru the first base dugout, and as soon as you walked out the door you were literally in livestock stalls.

(IMHO) There will be no movement in voter's attitudes from the debate last evening. I think that was the goal of the Trump campaign. I think the Republican Campaign knows the polls as advertised are very inaccurate and his goal was to continue to be as bold and arrogant as always while jabbing Biden with known truths such as Hunter's misdeeds and the former VP's 47 years in DC. I think both bases stayed put last night which may have been the President's goal. I think Biden had the number 750 engrained in his head trying to point at the tax issue trying to get pinned on Trump. If Trump would have pointed out that the reason his accountants had such easy work getting his deductions was the fact that the former VP and Senator for 40 years had his hand in making those laws that he (Biden) now wants to change I think that may have been a good point to drive home. If you disliked the former VP, you really do today, and the same for the President. But if you supported the President (or the VP) you most likely do even more this morning. I think the real loser was the moderator.
