Had a chance to listen to the interview with Jelani Woods rookie TE for the Colts on the Kevin and Query sports radio show this morning. Impressive and humble young man. I am a fan! https://www.1075thefan.com/show/kevin-and-query/2 points

2014 North Vermillion (who beat Lutheran by 18 in SS) would beat 2021 Parke Heritage (who lost to Lutheran by 36 in Reg) with a running clock the entire 2nd half. The NV line would have dominated the game on both sides of the ball.2 points

I might give you the argument that North Vermillion benefited from some schools moving to 2A due to the success factor, but they were pretty darn good. I would say the Josh Smith/Attica and Eli Cook/Seeger teams and some of the Fountain Central teams were very good football teams. 2007 Rockville wasn't bad, but they ran into a really good Sheridan team. SV, big fish, small pond in the WRC. They aren't anywhere near the caliber of some of these past teams. That's a hill I'll die on.2 points

I really appreciate that this thread was created and agree that there's something going on with Sagarin's algorithm. Last week I posted about what I call the Sagarin SIAC Glitch. It appears there's a weighted bias to the SIAC in his algorithm compared to the SAC. And it really makes it difficult for data guys like myself to evaluate. 😉 But I digress. Here are all the schools in both conferences and how they sit with the computer systems (Sagarin, Calpreps, Massey). School Sagarin Calpreps Massey Average Ranking Reitz 9 22 33 21.3 Carroll 50 15 12 25.6 Snider 55 27 26 36 Mater Dei 23 65 55 47.6 North Side 81 37 40 52.6 Castle 31 69 58 52.6 Vincennes 21 61 82 54.6 Ev. North 34 78 86 66 Memorial 54 87 60 67 Dwenger 124 63 43 76.6 Jasper 67 102 79 82.6 Homestead 118 79 54 83.6 Luers 140 91 64 98.3 Harrison 108 149 142 133 Wayne 203 141 112 152 Concordia 228 165 106 166.3 Bosse 149 184 179 170.6 Central 155 206 174 178.3 Northrop 248 195 135 192.6 South Side 254 227 192 224.3 I've highlighted some numbers that jump out to me. The discrepancy of Carroll and Snider is extreme and tells me that the formula/algorithm is either flawed or bias. Having been to a lot of the games in the SIAC area I can say with confidence that I don't think Vincennes is a top 21 school in the entire state.2 points

The youth programs seem to be very good actually. Very thankful JR Martin (RIP) and Marty Brown established the WRC league all those years ago. Our league consist of PH, Attica, NV, SV, Covington, and Seeger. Covington actually did not have the numbers this year and did not participate but glad to have Attica back even with their low numbers. We did play in Terre Haute for many years and competed well, then moved to the WRC league and it was widely mocked about on here how we got our @$$ kicked the first couple seasons. Competing well now, great numbers, enough numbers I get a dozen calls a week about playing time. Thankfully able to play some “A” and “B” games. Been a great experience. I’d take any WRC team to TH and play with confidence. Attica had 13 kids but their QB and RB can play!2 points

NP can only do so much. For years, everyone complained about the Dragons conference. Then MV won 4A in 2021, and GF is ranked in 2022. The Dragons schedule outside their weight class, and defeat 6A Westfield and 5A Decatur Central. We can't all schedule a bye and Hammond Morton. It is what it is. They won't be tested the rest of the regular season.2 points

Seems to be plenty to post about other games that have occurred in two weeks outside of the 3 teams that have their own thread going. Here is my first entry As Peter Griffin would says........ooooowwwwwww........owwwwwwwww.......ooooowwwwwww........owwwwwwwww.......ooooowwwwwww........owwwwwwwww.......ooooowwwwwww........owwwwwwwww.......ooooowwwwwww........owwwwwwwww.......ooooowwwwwww........owwwwwwwww iykyk 🤣 https://twitter.com/BSSportsbook/status/1572057732936761345?s=201 point

The last 12 years has seen a mad rush to get turf fields. On PMS today, it was discussed that they are widely despised by players because of the abuse on the body. Rip them up and go back to sod.1 point

Overall, just not a very strong conference, but Oak Hill appears to have the real deal at the Varsity level this season. Eastbrook is obviously down after losing to Alex and narrowly beating Frankton. They'll finish up either 6-3 or 5-4. Alex had a great win vs Eastbrook, but got a decent beatdown by a 3-3 Eastern Hancock team in week 1. Blanked by Mississinewa...Likely to lose to Oak Hill, but I think they get past Frankton...toss-up in week 9 vs Madison-Grant. Frankton is improved, but isn't scoring points save for Elwood. Take out that game, they're only scoring 10 per game, which is drastically different than their 40 per game with Elwood included. Need more offense to have a chance these next few weeks...anywhere between 3-6 and 5-4 depends entirely on their Offense based on scores. They'll beat Blackford in week 9...need more offense vs Madison Grant and Alex in weeks 7 & 8. Mississinewa played Norwell close in week 1, by far Norwell's closest game and they're the top ranked team in 3A. They should win out...even beating Eastbrook in week 9!! Madison-Grant finishes up with Frankton, Eastbrook, and Alex...should be a solid defensive battle vs Frankton and Eastbrook...teams able to pass the ball better win those weeks.1 point

I concur. And this newfangled forward pass experiment is ruining the game, too. Live Lateral, or Die!1 point

While NP is growing, enrollment just topped 1200 this year. They aren't ready for the MIC yet! Although the MIC isn't what is used to be. He is playing well. I thought he held his own at Ohio State. MAC play starts this weekend. Definitely enjoying it. Played at Notre Dame, at Ohio State, at San Diego State last weekend...fun times and good memories. I love to poke the Cathedral bear in here. All in good fun.1 point

Absolutely. But Mishawaka has already been featured twice and Northwood once. It's unfortunate for channel 46 that essentially 3 area conference championships are being decided in the next 2 weeks: Week 7: NLC Northwood vs. Mishawaka Week 8: NIC Penn vs New Prairie HNAC: LaVille vs North judson Freeby and crew are probably frustrated that Warsaw ended up being the "paper tigers" this season as some early season beat downs of some underachieving teams made everyone think Warsaw was a top 10 6A team. But so be it; it's nearly impossible to know what games will be the big ones for the areas 4 main conferences. Besides Channel 46 does a HELL of a job for an area high school broadcast; top notch operation.1 point

A Lake Central win over Merrillville and I’d be insufferable (more so than I already am) on here for weeks…1 point

Agreed. And it all starts with Lake Central. Enrollment and Socioeconomic wise they should be dominating the Duneland.1 point

Coach King has been spread since 2007. Im not sure who the best team would be in the last 15 years, but I’d personally have to give not to Jacob Earl’s falcons, state champs and 1A player of the year I believe! Best player to play in the WRC since Smith.1 point

I think Andre is going to get busted for playing on his phone during class!1 point

I could just copy and paste and do that just to really fire up some people. Maybe I will and just take it on the chin. And I hope everyone, barring injuries, is better than their game 1 performance. I am merely comparing Westfield on a one on one, game to game basis. But again what is the fun of these polls if not to argue about them.1 point

I'm not sure if I should laugh at this or not to be honest. Ill take the 2007 Rox over any of those teams.1 point

Unless the sprinklers or hose make an appearance, lol...how much speed does LaSalle have? (Sorry, I had to.)1 point

Ok, I think we can scratch that prediction from the Matchup Tool. I believe the factor used for Triton has been mixed up with (2A) Triton Central. When that gets corrected I would expect Triton to be the underdog. The tool uses Sagarin's predictor rating, and Judson's rating is about 8 points higher than Triton. That makes more sense to me.1 point

Hard disagree. Between PH last year and SV this year, I think those two teams are the most dominant forces that this conference has ever seen. Powerhouse is the most applicable word, especially for SV this year. I think this year's SV would wipe the floor with last year's PH squad then that PH squad would run circles around the NV state team. I think there's a lot of undervaluation of the athletes we're watching grace our presence right now and the quality coaching jobs that were at PH last year and the stellar program that SV has built.1 point

I am in agreement with your picks. Just want to point out that Avon has been in the game each week until late 2nd qtr or halftime. Then the opposing defense adjusts and they are done.1 point

Seems like we've been hearing about North turning the corner for 5-7 years now and it hasn't happened. They were clearly bigger than MD in the trenches on Friday night and weren't able to get much going at all on offense. their passing game was not impressive and their rushing attack didn't generate much at all. Their only score occurred as time expired at the end of the game with their starters still in vs MD's back ups. I wonder how long of a leash this coach will have to turn them into a consistent winner1 point

Crown point is overhyped.. and there own coach said they don’t want a rematch with merrillville 😂😂 but I never appointed them favorites for state I said they are the north favorites. But if Mishawaka falls this week merrillville is back to #1 Top 3. Probably being #3. HCC mic DAC1 point

I also know that his rankings aren't perfect, but they are more realistic. In the end I guess we will all see where each of the top 10 fall. Unfortunately for New Pal the rest of their regular season is the lower half of the conference. New Pal won't be tested again till the playoffs. Regardless of anyone's polling which is always fun to argue, all that matters is how far they go in the playoffs number 1 ranking or not. I do like your top 5 though other than the New Pal not being in it.1 point

I do remember watching a time when NV, FC, Rockville, and Attica were all ranked top 10 in 1A. I believe it was 2014, the year NV won state. I'm not sure if we will ever see football like that again in the WRC. I don't think it's youth programs faltering, I think it's just athletes coming and going. Those teams had some of the best athletes to ever come through the WRC.1 point

I would include Vincennes And Tri west for the south. Owen Valley also still undefeated but idk if I think they could get over any of the 3 north teams you mentioned also Guerin can’t be overlooked considering how much of a fight they gave Chatard.1 point

I would have Castle at #2 and VL 3. I can sort of understand how the Knights got bumped coming off a loss while Lincoln won, but we just aren't far enough removed from their match up just 11 days ago. But I would love to rewind that game and erase the Lincoln fumble right before the half just to see if things played out differently...probably still a VL loss but it certainly would have been closer. Castle just had everything going offensively that night.1 point

It was a combination of LaVille playing their worst game of the season and Knox playing maybe their best. Gotta give a lot of credit to Knox. I don't know the numbers, but T.O.P. had to be crazy lopsided. LaVille only had 3 possessions in the first half! 1 TD, incomplete pass on 4th and goal, and a punt. They did a great job keeping LaVille's offense off the field. The late run by Knox was set up by some bone headed personal fouls down the stretch by LaVille. Knox and LaVille seem to always play eachother really tight, so I'm not surprised by the score. It was a nailbiter to watch! Glad the good guys came out on top! 😜1 point

Look, the best I can do without a visual is tell you what the rule says. Was the play “clearly intended” to cause the defense to jump? Does it “simulate action at the snap?” If it does either of these things, it’s a foul. Is there any way to give a black letter hard line answer to a hypothetical? No. If this is heading in the direction of trying to remove officiating judgment from the equation, just give up now. The rule is written to not just allow such judgment, but to require it.1 point

You mean in all your years of coaching you don’t know how to embed a video clip? Or are you just using that as a way to get an abstract answer you might be able to twist around to use later? What I’m saying is you have to read “intent” in order to call the foul, and you can’t do that in the abstract. Show me a video clip and I’ll be happy to give you my opinion. Please keep in mind that another type of false start is action which simulates the start of the play. Again, got to see it.1 point
