  1. Leave it. If you start a week earlier, you are stealing a week of summer, that is already short. If you go a week longer, you lose the state games on Thanksgiving weekend, and also would require pushing the basketball season back another week. It is just my opinion, I could be swayed.

  2. Can only speak for myself, but here was my "ballot" for that one: 1. Mater Dei 2. Memorial 3. Jasper 4. Gibson Southern 5. Castle 6. Heritage Hills 7. Reitz 8. Boonville 9. North 10. Mount Vernon. Also need to remember there were five voters on this one so it can skew a couple spots.

  3. Every school in the state is guaranteed 10 games (which is how it was prior to the all-in playoff). A team that gets to Lucas Oil plays 14 (6A/5A) or 15 (1A-4A) games. The format is just fine. We can't add onto the end of the season because it has to end Thanksgiving weekend to make the State Finals work without pulling kids out of class (as well as the Big Ten championship game is the following week so LOS is not available). Any addition would be at the front end and the season already starts pretty early.

  4. It's always sunny in Attica, isn't it Donnie? You should get a job as their promoter. I have a little more insight than I care to share, so let's get on with the season. Good luck to everyone. Hope they can all put a product on the field.

  5. Updated my list after the scrimmages and info I have heard about East. 1. Columbus East (was told they will be solid this year, and looked good in the scrimmage… Chase Harrison is an absolute monster) 2. Seymour (They return a lot like East, from a solid campaign last year) 3. Floyd (always has the athletes, injury bug seems to bite them some each year)

  6. I really hope someone meant to give a #1 vote for Mooresville and accidentally clicked Martinsville by mistake. That is the only way that makes sense.

  10. TH South has a lot of good players and a couple transfers that will help them tremendously. Sophomore QB's dad is the D Coordinator at Indiana State, and looks to have huge upside. Cottee, the RB is a load of a player, and West Vigo's best player from last year is now at South too. Not saying they will beat GS, but I think it will be a very good game. TH South never played Pike or Lawrence Central. They did, however play Carmel and Center Grove!

  11. Can't believe folks have forgotten Pioneer's potential impact on 1A in just a couple years. Guess it's a case of "out of sight, out of mind."

  12. Hey Friends and maybe a couple of Foes out there (ducks away from some Eastbrook heaters) Long long time, but had a moment before I rest my head for the evening, these days of Elementary PE and then time with Bombers after school certainly does take its Tolle (still got it) on this 20 yr veteran of the Bombers staff!! yes, 20th year, MERCY, can I officially be one of the "old" guys in the game now?? If you count my film engineering when Coach Meeks took over in 1999, this will be my 24th year, also in his 24th year (181-95), our DC's 24th year at RCHS (but a few more other places right out of school as well before back in R) Coach Stevens, hell, he one of my coaches when I played 95-97 for the Bombers. While I am at it, Bombers welcoming Coach Wes Radtke to staff, our Girls Bball coach, former NS All Star from our friends in Starke Co, NJSP, along with Austin Metgzer, who was an All State 2 way player for West Central in the mid 2000's, I want to say under Brad Urban years, he had been with our Middle School staff past few years and now up with high school crew. Returning also is Doug Hannon, who was our OL line coach back in early 2010's, and our OL coach in 2014 state run. Bombers are playing in our 125th season this year, we are excited as always, as Coach Meeks has said in a couple of media spots already, we will be young but experienced, playing a 4-5 freshman last year who are now obviously Sophomores. Jordan Cree, who was named small school defensive player of the year for the Journal Courier returns for his SR year and is a 3 year starter. Jordan was state qualifier in Wrestling and Shot Putt in 2021 as well. GREAT to see a 3 way athlete have success !! Annual Cracker Barrel game is upon us, gets a little more juice as they say with return of Region Royalty ( I say that will upmost legitimate respect) in Kirk Kennedy along with his long time friend and DC Brad Stewart. Not sure when I will have a moment to stop by for an extended period of time, but as always, I want to wish all my Hoosier Conference the absolute best except on weeks 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. and possible weeks, 10, 11, or 12 too (Hoosier Conf vs Region in Section 25 !!!). Cheers Coach Nowlin P.S. I really thought the Freshman QB from LCC JV last year was very good and talented along with the rest of their team, lots of good looking yutes (did you say YUTE?) so assuming that was the Metzger kid. P.S.S. West Lafayette until someone in the West says otherwise P.S.S.S.: I have a couple C(k)atalina's on my rosters: I have dropped the required POW POW P.S.S.S. S Sorry Kokomo area Hoosier Conf peeps: ONE EYE JACKS (Winamac, IN) destroyed my Tenderloin experiences over the years in your neck of the woods. P.S.S.S.S.S Local sadness, @CoachDurham , assuming he heard, but Rex Marskamp passed away last Tuesday, he was LEGEND in our area and NWI, sometimes ornery, but always REX P.S.S.S.S.S.S Really, cannot believe I am in year 20 for Bomber Football, its a very special program with my coaching brothers and all our hard working kids this year and previous years, I am very blessed!!

  14. I say get rid of the scrimmage and go straight into week 1. This could allow for a bye week during the season or the playoffs.

  16. I agree. The SIAC should do Frosh/JV double header on Monday and 7th/8th grade on Thursday, both the week after varsity plays.

  18. I'm just going to go ahead and say it out loud in front of everybody. There has been quite a bit of talk, and with all this talk be better beat Mt. Vernon Friday night by 2 or 3 scores. It is not typically our thing to come out of the gate running off at the mouth this much. If we have the rear end to back it up, well, great....if not, just stop. It seems every media video/article has been, as you say, the same consistent message. I was up close and personal for the scrimmage against Jasper Friday night, and I liked the way we looked (with a couple weaknesses), but the truth has yet to be seen.

  20. I say go a week later like Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois and get rid of the scrimmage. We already scrimmage in the summer. Can still have State on Thanksgiving weekend.

  24. We are feeling pretty good this year with 21 freshman--20 on the roster as 1 is playing varsity. 20 is a pretty good number for a public 3A. With that said, when you get smaller than 4A, a freshman team can become difficult to schedule. Half of our freshman schedule is made up of odd teams because so many smaller schools don't have freshman teams. Except for the private schools where 40% to 50% of the males are playing football...for example, our freshman have Mater Dei on the schedule. Only 3 of our freshman games are PAC schools.

  26. Here are this week’s games. I’ll run the pick ‘em contest again this year. Make sure to have them in before kickoff each Friday night. As for me, I’ll probably wait to give mine on Friday mornings or afternoons.

  32. Back to the old days of Saturday road trips for tape exchanges on little abandoned highways in Nowheresville, Indiana. Interesting tales about games being (poorly) recorded over home videos, coaches "forgetting" to fix the tracking so the provided film was partially unviewable, and lists of coaches/programs who were not exactly forthright in exchanging decent quality films.

  33. I would love to see Linton get in the WIC again. Its a multi class conference with some good teams. Independent is great however the reduced travel time is also great. Linton is just a 2A school and that would probably wreck their plans as the Miners would run through it as a lowly 2A school. Just a thought.

  35. Covenant Christian, North Judson and Park Tudor are all too low. AC, CC, NJ and PT should make up teams 2-5, but I'm not sure what order they should be in. SA and Monroe Central are too high.
