I keep saying it but cancelling football will not help slow the spread whatsoever. With football, the players are screened and monitored every day. They have motivation; use social distancing and precautions or don't play. They have accountability, or at least a sense of it. Because of their schedules they pretty much only have time to be around family/friends and the team, so any cases can be tightly quarantined if addressed quick enough. The list of pros is not limited here either. Take football away from all these student athletes and their morale suffers, their mental health suffers, their motivation to do well in school suffers, they probably move on with carelessness as far as precautions go, and they probably go to parties and vacations as well. I hope the decision makers involved are carefully considering all pros, cons, and outcomes.

Fine, you don't care for WC's decision, but no need to malign an entire class of Indiana football over your disdain. I can think of several 1A teams who would play anyone on their schedule ... even if they had only 10 players.

A part of this seems to be concern of college players "organizing" as part of the conditions of pushing forward this season ... that was one of the big parts of the WeWantToPlay. That would likely have pushed them closer to being "employees" as opposed to amateur athletes, or at a minimum giving more negotiation strength ... and that could provide all kinds of non virus-related issues for NCAA and schools moving forward. For the record, I'm not siding with or against the schools or the athletes; just stating that I think that the decision was not entirely related to virus concerns.

Nice to know the university Presidents are still in control at these major institutions, and not the extra-curricular athletic departments.

I am a supporter of an inner city Indianapolis Public School. Parental guidance is the primary weakness with these kids. Without sports these youths will run the streets.

I do not believe that, I believe positive test are to be expected. Protocols to be followed, precautions will be made, games may be canceled but not the season. Not in jeopardy at this time IMO.

Is the Covid-19 real? Absolutely! Is the NBA-MLB-CFB-NFL-Nascar and schools overreacting to the Covid-19 virus? Absolutely! Political motivated? Absolutely? My opinion.

It has to be a school by school decision on what is acceptable to continue the season. In some areas of the state, the threat is not high compared to other parts. Starke County should not tell another county what to do and vice verse.

Two seperate longtime forum members on Harrell's website said they were in line to receive a coronavirus test and completed the paperwork but left without ever taking the test due to long wait times. Both said they received notification that they tested positive for the coronavirus. It is interesting how our plant never shut down. We have been working 6-7 days per week since the coronavirus outbreak and 800 - 900 union workers refuse to wear masks or social distance. A total of 5 people have tested positive for the coronavirus yet we have had no further spread in the past 10 weeks. I have no doubt the coronavirus is real but have serious doubts about the numbers being reported by the mainstream media.

Lies??? I guess I have more of a inside source than you and your media articles. FACT is he is becoming healthy again. NOBODY is forcing anyone to play football, it is truly all voluntary. You would think that kids and parents were being held at gunpoint to play. That is so far from the fact. If you don't want to play dont. If you do not want to go to a game... dont go. It really is that simple. Risks are way down in our state. Rising cases and lowering death rates... hmmm. You are the stat guy, look it up.. in the whole state of Indiana today there are 538 confirmed covid patients hospitalized... Lets just pretend that they are all in there from covid only. We are a state of 6.77 MILLION people. Club sports have been going on ALL summer long. Deaths still dropping. I guess #FlattenTheCurve was never about saving people. This has become a pandemic of liability now, not death. Its sad. I am not descended from fearful men, but some of you are. Oh yea... I am a Covid Survivor. I am one of those stats. I switched to the Echo brand pre-mix for all my two cycle fuel needs, chain saw, trimmers, edgers, bed defined, etc. It’s more expensive on the front end, I buy a six pack of quarts for like 40 bucks from my local dealer, and I go thru two of them a year. But my maintenance costs have dropped well over 80 bucks in the three years I’ve been using it. My mower has a Kawasaki engine, that is OK with E85, I’ve always ran some premix fuel thru my mower at the end of the season, it might smoke a little, but I’ve never had any issues next spring.

If we're on borrowed time with a season, wish teams would just play their Week 1 opponent this Saturday, instead of playing a scrimmage.

I wouldn't worry to much about canceled scrimmages. Some teams that have had a case or two would rather make SURE they are ready for game one which is infinitely more important than a scrimmage.

Good luck with that. Millions of people will fight against that. Millions. You can't rush something into production and start injecting people with an unknown product when you don't incur any of the liability on if it works and what serious side effects it might cause. Plus we already know it won't "cure" anything.

I am entirely all for leaving these decisions up to the individual. I am not a fan of these season cancellations by these school boards. Everything is voluntary, as it should be. Just my two cents.

While I appreciate that folks want to move on, it was just a bit over 5 months ago, on this very site, that the following post showed up to, I'm assuming, discredit or play down, COVID. Given 160,000+ dead since then, it hasn't aged well.

It really doesn’t have anything to do with toughness. If the health department says shut down, you shut down. Also, all it takes is one positive test, and everything can be shut down.

It is my belief the IHSAA has passed the call on to each school district. If we were in the playoffs at this point, like we were with basketball in March, then it is their call. But at this point they are what poker players call......pot committed.

They have to wait for all the argument threads to get shut down before they can make a final decision.

Here's the deal. Everyone has their own opinion of risk. To be totally one-sided and not see the other person's side is well...short-sided. To downplay a mother's concern for her child and the fact he could've died is wrong. I hope you don't have anyone you care about get really sick or die from this. Now do I think we should play? The answer is yes. But if people on the team or in their classroom get sick they will have to sit out and quarantine. If they test positive they will miss 4 weeks of the season between the 14 days off and the 10 days of practice, not to mention the IHSAA stating that the students will need to get their heart checked and cleared by a doctor. This is a risk because we don't have any idea about the long term effects of this virus or if you get it once will you be immune from getting it again. So if you are asymptomatic the first time will you be asymptomatic the second time? So if some people feel that they don't want to play or if some schools or conferences don't want to play that is their assessment of the risk. Instead of being a jerk about it accept their feelings.

It's absolutely false to believe that this virus is going to result in all of these student athletes being in ICU or even near the hospital. You're naive or just ignorant to believe that. Most of our student athletes are working part time jobs, hanging out with friends and family or playing travel sports, AAU, etc... Where are all of those student-athletes in ICU? They've been playing since May... It was never about the amount of covid cases, it was about flattening the curve. Flattening the curve means not having an overflow of people in the hospital and in almost every part of the country we didn't. We drastically overestimated this virus and now we are seeing the effects of it. Now the goalposts are moved to nonsensical measures such as keeping covid cases down and even waiting for a vaccine that still won't make us immune to this thing... Right now, 4 weeks after Florida hit their peak in hospital bed usage and 300,000 cases later Florida still has more hospital beds available now then they did then. A higher case count does not mean we don't have control of the virus. Everyone is going to get this thing at some point or another you're body has to build an immunity to it. Unless you want to live in a bubble the rest of your life by all means do it. Collect unemployment and other government benefits, live the life you choose. But, there are people in this world that want to live and most importantly NOT LIVE IN A FREEDOMLESS SOCIETY. The fact of the matter is, although cases are going up (WHICH IS OBVIOUS) death rates have dropped dramatically. More people or just about the same amount of people in the US have died from pneumonia this year in all age groups. We KNOW who the vulnerable are, if they choose to isolate themselves then they should, people with 1 or more underlying conditions, cancer and the like should definitely isolate themselves from sick people. But that's always been the case. 1% of Americans have gotten the virus and more will get it. .04% of Americans have died from this virus. So no, it isn't life or death. The fear porn that some of you guys watch and reference should be banned. You should be more concerned with obesity, depression and other physical/mental illnesses. Taking away a kid's season or sport because you think it's just a game or you genuinely think it's life or death, is one of the most elitist and privileged perspectives on this virus I've ever heard.
