Sigh🙄...many, if not most of us, come to these forums to get away from the political ignorance coming from both sides these days. Can't we simply let the GID be about high school football, please...

You can be sure that the crew chief made a lengthy report to the IHSAA before ever hitting the hay that night. As the game was terminated at that point, you should be aware that the officials nevertheless retain jurisdiction over the game for as long as it takes to complete any “administrative duties” associated with the contest. That means they can go to their locker room after the game was terminated, compare notes as a crew, and retroactively disqualify players if warranted.

Taking time out from this until decisions are made by the IHSAA. For future reference, an occasional funny political jab is ok......but repeated comments related.......not so much.

A disqualified player may remain on the sidelines. However, if a coach is ejected he must leave the facility and have no contact with the team for the remainder of the contest. How to handle potentially inflammatory exchanges between teams is something that is so situation-specific, you can’t really develop a hard and fast protocol for dealing with them. The Referee has wide discretion to adapt an approach to fit the circumstances. I think it is a bad idea for the officials to address a team in the locker room on that subject. They should deal strictly with the head coach. I’ll relate one anecdote that provides an example of a way to deal with it. I was the Referee on a college game involving two teams with a well known history of not liking one another. By the middle of the 1st quarter there had been several incidents of pushing and shoving, and 4 dead ball personal fouls. I sent both teams to their benches and called the head coaches to the middle of the field. They both began explaining how the other team was the instigator, and I cut them off, saying “ I didn’t bring you out here to hear what you had to say. I brought you out here so you could hear what I have to say. Any pushing or shoving is now going to be penalized as a personal foul — no leeway. And any dead ball personal foul or unsportsmanlike act is going to be an ejection. Now, without further comment, go back to your sidelines and communicate that to your players. End of discussion.” One approach that I’ve seen used in the case of skirmishes where nonplayers enter the field, or where there is a significant pregame incident, is to assess an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on every player and coach on both teams. This means that any subsequent unsportsmanlike act results in mandatory disqualification of the offender. As to racial remarks, the IHSAA has a zero tolerance policy. If an official hears it, immediate disqualification is warranted.

I always have mixed feelings when CG plays LN given that my loyalties are obvious but I consider Pat Mallory a friend and want to see him succeed. Lots of familiarity among the coaches, lots of wing t, and lots of talent on the field. Should be fun.

I told every player on Tipton’s team that I talked to on Friday and all of their coaches that they played a great game! I don’t play, so I didn’t play Friday night. I don’t ever remember saying that it wasn’t a great game. I remember how critical the Tipton fans were of Eastbrook fans for complaining about officiating last year, but what did you do this year when the outcome wasn’t what you wanted, complain about the officiating. To be completely honest with you, Tipton’s fans in the stands were completely disgusting Friday night. Eastbrook had an injured 16 year old athlete laying on the ground and what did Tipton fans do? They heckled the player!! I heard fans call the kid a wimp and yelled to get him off of the field, so to hear Tipton fans try to take the high road on me is comical. That group of fans were the worst I’ve ever seen at a high school event. I was on the press box, so I heard it all clearly.

IMO, this is 100% on the coaches. With 5 Un-Sportsman's-like penalties: not 1... not 2... not 3... not 4... but F-I-V-E penalties, the coaches had plenty of warning this was coming. The coaches either chose to look the other way, effectively giving their approval to the behavior, or they were incompetent. They could have taken any/all kids involved off the field IMMEDIATELY, thus sending a clear message to any other players that this type of behavior would not be tolerated. Crisis avoided.

The officials are precluded from using video. But the IHSAA certainly isn’t. And I would expect that Asst. Commissioner Faulkens is already reviewing video.

So, we are at the point in the conversation where we can begin to closely scrutinize the coaches’ vote to determine whether it serves the goals we’ve identified for the process. It’s clear that, in the selection and advancement process, the vote is the primary differentiator between about 75% of the crews out there, since the experience, test score, meeting attendance, etc., factors are easily satisfied by most crews. First, here’s how the vote works: Schools are sent a list of all the crews that have applied for the tournament. Schools are instructed to assign a score from 1-5 to crews that have worked games involving the school in the previous 3 seasons, plus whatever portion of the current season has been completed. Schools are given the following guidelines when they rate crews: 5 State Ready: The official/crew exhibits excellent communication skills, NFHS/IHSAA approved mechanics, arrives at the contest site mentally and physically prepared, demonstrates excellent game management, and has control of the contest by making consistent calls from beginning to the end and can work the highest level in the tournament. 4 Semi State Ready: The official/crew displays very good communication skills, and is in position to make most calls. The official manages the game well and has control of the contest, but not at the highest level. 3 Regional Ready: official/crew demonstrates adequate rules knowledge and acceptable game management. Communication with coaches and players is acceptable but needs more experience to work the higher levels of the tournament. 2 Sectional Ready: The official/crew has the ability, rules knowledge and communication skills to work the lowest level of the tournament. Improvement in one or more of these areas is required for advancement 1 Not Tournament Ready: The official/crew is unable to adequately demonstrate the skill level, communication, judgment, mechanics, and rules knowledge expected for the tournament. Game management needs improvement in order to officiate a tournament contest. Note: Schools that submit a rating of 1 must provide specific feedback via a dropdown menu. While the IHSAA requires every school to turn in a vote, and they can only rate officials they’ve seen in the last 3+ seasons, there is no requirement that the school rate every crew they’ve seen over that period. Next: The flaws in the coaches’ vote as a measure of officiating proficiency.

Yesterday vs. Navy was the first time I’ve seen Jack Coan play live. He clearly has limitations. He’s a serviceable QB, but no more. He took 2 drive-killing sacks, and both were absolutely his fault. Both times he had unblocked rushers at the line of scrimmage pre-snap and didn’t get out of the play, change the protection, or get the ball to a hot receiver. I watched his head on pass plays and he clearly locks on his target at the snap and is not going through progressions very often. Half of his completions were to running backs. His chief asset is he doesn’t turn it over. He’s not going to lose games for them, but he’s not going to win any, either. He’s a placeholder until Kelly’s willing to trust the freshman Buchner with the ball on the minus side of the 50.

I guess Gibson Southern has been moved to 6A, may get to play Memorial after all.

Spin it however you want but which is it? The elements and the slippery ball or did NJ out play them. I'll save you some time here. Both teams had to play in the weather. NJ outplayed and outcoached Winamac. Judson prepared for the weather. Now if you are using the excuse that Winamac couldn't run outside then the coaches did a poor job of preparing Winamac for the weather. All of the so called size, speed and talent and they couldn't run some power plays? So pick a narrative and believe what you want but Winamac got beat. Judson was the best team in the sectional hands down. Look back, I called that in week 7 or 8. Most people outside of Winamac knew that they weren't going to be prepared based solely on their schedule and how they competed against the teams on their schedule. Say what you want, but in some of those wins, Culver included, Winamac did not have the game in hand until well into the second half. Try to look at the film objectively and not through rose colored glasses and you will see that. Judson at least played some tough teams and were competitive in those games. It wasn't hard to see that they were the heavy favorites to win the sectional. You can claim the what if and would have done this or that championship all you want. Bottom line is Winamac got beat badly as did Culver by the best team in the sectional. Hopefully the 1st or 2nd grade class at Winamac will be as promising as this 2022 class was that we have been hearing about for years. Congratulations to those young men on their what if sectional and regional championship! Hopefully they pull off the what if state title in a couple of weeks.

Not really sure what I said that was incorrect. I figured fans in Grant County didn’t know much about the resolve of the kids and staff at Eastside. Just thought I’d inform people that they wouldn’t let the win against Luers get to their heads as was suggested. I get the feeling from the 2A threads that the Eastbrook fans are somewhat sensitive to any sort of criticism or any thought outside of their own.

Mississinewa is also on a hot streak as they have won 9 straight. Northridge has the strength of schedule in their favor. Mississinewa has several players that have been to regionals where Northridge has none. I don't think it is going to be a blow out game but a close game. Then factor in that there is predictions of the white stuff flying this weekend so it could be a cold game.

Absolutely Correct. Now let's again divert from THAT, and focus on the game at Northridge HS. The Raiders are a formidable opponent on a "hot streak", at home, and focused on LOS! I was there.... TOTALLY different in EVERY WAY. Had absolutely nothing to do with the visiting team, had more to do with the dynamics of the closing of Elmhurst HS and as to how it pertained to FW Wayne Athletics. I am not going to assign blame in this situation, as I truly believe that the powers that be (Game officials in conjunction with the IHSAA) will sort this out and meter out any and all further sanctions. But I would suspect that Ole Miss faithful, need to understand that the outcome may ALSO fall upon the actions of players/coaches/administrators at Mississinewa when this all sorted out.

I think you have great passion for the team you like. I think everyone on here has great passion for a team. The difference is this. Most people think that there is more than one really good football team in the state of Indiana. Week in and week out, the passionate opinions about their team are shared with everyone. I think that most conversations have an understood level of sportsmanship mixed with mature banter. I’ll be the first to admit it is fun to have those conversations. But when my team loses I can say with a clear heart, “good game” to the other guy. Yes, it hurts and we might looks for excuses sometimes. Even when we win we can humbly tell the other guy, “man you guys played a great game.” And at the end of the day we look for other conversations to have about the amateur sport that we all love, high school football.

No, they just don’t get along well with Tipton fans. I watched the game of you guys against Eastside. I think if we can play great defense against them that they can be scored on by an offense that runs our style of offense. This will be a game similar to last week’s game against Tipton. The game might come down to whoever has the ball at the end of the game. Tipton’s fans aren’t at all like that, are they??

This is where I wish the IHSAA would step in and apply a little more control. Here is straight from the Illinois (IHSA) website: A majority of first and second round games in Illinois are still played Friday night. But it allows East St. Louis to drive to Chicago for a first round game (happened in 2018). Indiana is slightly at a disadvantage because of the ridiculous Eastern Time Zone issue, so call it 1:30 - 7:30 ET Saturday unless both schools want to switch to Friday.

Might depend on your point of view and definition of "being difficult"; - ) History suggests Goebel prefers to play on Friday nights whenever possible so the team's weekly schedule is consistent. However, any time there has been a long drive involved, Monrovia, Lawrenceburg, and 2019 at TC, he has typically gone with a Saturday game. I understand the way this works is visiting team choses the day and home team, the time. Back in 2019 when MD chose to play on Saturday, TC responded with an 11 am start time. This put MD on the bus around 5:30 am with a plan to arrive an hour early and also take an hour break along the way for food and short workout. However, there were some traffic issues and MD arrived about 30 mins late and never seemed to "get off the bus". MD seems to want to avoid any chance of repeat performance. Sitting is classes is not all the different from sitting on a bus so aside from the half-day of school missed, they should be fine. Several members of the coaching staff are MD teachers as well so they might find a clever way to do some readin' & (w)ritin', while ridin' on the bus... No way to know what all went on here but at least we know the day & time at this point. 5:30 CST will make it difficult for some MD fans, especially those with kids in grade school, to get to TC in time for kick-off so hopefully this game will be streamed. Good luck to both teams & may all fans travel safely.

That is one of the unique things about this game. No one left the stadium, and you could have heard a pin drop. A stirring sight, to be sure.

The strength of schedule tells the story.

Why so bitter? Just pointing out a fact. They took a big step forward last night and have put BD in their rear view mirror in the regular season recently. A win over BD is now EXPECTED at Brownsburg, which justifies my original statement. A loss next Friday is a step back. They would be playing with house money in a potential semi state contest vs CG. No one expects them to win that game. Take your extra hour and sleep in tomorrow morning grandpa.

I give the folks at LaVille some credit. The field, though not in the best shape, was in much better shape for Friday's game against Pioneer. It looked like they rolled the field and cut the grass very short. I was on the field after the game and it was muddy in spots, but not like it was following the Bremen game. Congratulations to Coach Will Hostrawser and the LaVille Football team. These boys came to play! A confident, focused bunch of Lancers came out of the locker room. I have seen Pioneer play several times and the Panthers were flat outplayed - on both sides of the ball - on Friday. The LaVille linemen controlled the line of scrimmage and Paul DeWitt hit the holes hard and fast. Lucas Plummer was effective and ran the offense from the QB spot and was very effective in the punt game and was solid with two field goals and PATS. Ross Wagoner was key for LaVille. And the offensive line pushed Pioneer back, allowing an effective running game. This was truly a team win, not just the boys mentioned here . . . . This was a hungry, impressive group that Coach Hostrawser brought to the field on this particular Friday. This reminds me of "back in the day" when I was known as "Rebeldad"! Had to change my name because we are no longer the Rebels! Had a former Roncalli Player come up to me last night saying a guy he works with who went to Cathedral said, "do you know whatever happened to that A-hole Rebeldad on the Digest". I had a good laugh at that. This is the first time in 20 years that I do not have a son who is either playing or coaching for Roncalli. Great game last night that was much closer than the score. Respect that Roncalli and Chatard have for each other is great to watch.

Had the chance to officiate Chatard's scrimmage and their last regular season game of the year. The strides they made from Week 0 to Week 9 were pretty darn substantial. My brother coaches for the Rebels (don't correct me!), so I have been able to see quite a bit of film on my alma mater as well. They completely destroy people up front. Chatard reminds me of an early 2000s Center Grove team...smaller, but efficient and quick hitting blocking schemes. Looks to be a good one Friday...I'll take the Rebels in the same score as their first match up 28-21

No. Last night was really the perfect storm. The field conditions benefited North Judson greatly. North Judson doesn't have much team speed besides #40. They aren't too big up front either and they really like to run behind their center Brennen Benson with QB or their TB. A power football team where as Winamac relied this year more on speed, misdirection, pulling lineman, getting outside and throwing a little bit. The field conditions didn't allow Winamac to get any type of footing to play their style, any time a team went to the outside it was negative yardage. The score was 0-6 after one, 13-13 late in first half then a pick six to make it 13-20. Winamac kicked off to start 2nd half, got a stop then turned it over. North Judson's next possession on a 4th down they scored from 24 yards out. Winamac then got the ball back, turned it over late in 3rd and North Judson scored on a 22 yard seam pass and then 4 penalties in a row aided their last TD w 3 seconds to go. 5 TO's also hurt Winamac. It wasn't really lopsided until late 3rd and all of the 4th. If AC or SA play Judson on turf or a good field. Judson will struggle w their speed.

I will disagree with others on here. I still think in the long run, Brohm may be the better hire. At the time, I wanted Fleck over everyone else, but his shtick really wears thin with me and I'm glad we aren't rowing boats all over the place. I think Brohm has had to adapt and adjust through his time, but I think he is doing just that. Don't forget the mess this program was in when he arrived. PJ took over a winning program. Brohm took over a dumpster fire that he had to practically rebuild from scratch. As frustrated as we are at this point, we still have a shot at a bowl game and will return a whole lot for next year. The recruiting has been solid all along. Purdue has never been much of a football school outside of a few coaches. If Brohm can consistently have us competing for bowls, that is more than most have done in history. A complete reset of the program at this point would be foolish.
