While unfortunate for those that can't figure out how to view streamed content, this was a step that people should have seen coming with Bally's bankruptcy. The only thing that I've never liked about the exclusivity of broadcasting the state finals, is that it is forcing private companies or even school broadcasts out. If a school or broadcaster has been showing the entire season up to the state championship game, I'd like to see the IHSAA give those broadcasters an opportunity to do the game, ESPECIALLY if it's an educational broadcast team. Broadcasting a State Final in Lucas Oil Stadium is an experience that no student would forget.

Let's get this thread back to where it's designed to be and away from local small town drama/politics... The game of the week in the north is the rematch between Triton and North Judson. Triton got the best of the Blue Jays in a big way in the regular season, but JH is predicting a 1-point margin this time around in favor of Triton. It looks like Park Tudor at North Vermillion could be a good one, but I don't know anything about these teams. I don't expect AC or Carroll to have any problems making it back to a regional rematch assuming they stay healthy and play relatively clean football. It looks like there are a few good games in the south with North Decatur at Milan and Springs Valley at Providence. I don't know anything about these teams, but on paper it looks like a fun sectional final week.

It's definitely the best record they've had and only sectional championship game since restarting the program in 2015. Watching the two teams on film, I'd bet on Heritage Hills. However, according to my FanDuel account, I'm really bad at betting.

They overall possess a strong passing game under their QB, who happens to be one of the best rushers on the team. And has a plethora of receivers to throw too. GS’ starting RB has nearly put up an 1100-yard season with 11 TDs and provides a terrific spark on the field. One of the most balanced offensives in Southern Indiana as it almost split down the middle. Defensively Titans are very good in the trenches only allowing 78 rushing yards per game on 3.32 yards per carry. They have only suffered one game where they allowed 200+ rushing yards, which was against Boyle County (Ky) in Week 1. Since then has shut down most teams in the trenches. The Titans also have a pretty good passing defense too, only allowing around 133 yards per game. And has grabbed 9 interceptions so far on the season and allowed 11.63 yards per catch. Seems like most teams are willing to pass more, rather than run the ball. The Titans also love living in the backfield totaling up to 92 TFL on the season, with a ⅓ of those coming from one of their starting D-linemen (32 TFL). The Alices are still having their best season in the SIAC and are hoping to make it even better by winning a sectional championship. And avenge last year's loss to Gibson Southern in the first round. Offensively, everyone looks like their QB1, who is basically a Swiss army knife as he can be anywhere on the field with his talent and speed. And as a team, they have put up good points averaging 30.5 PPG, and have gotten a lot better with their QB1 fully back. Since they scored only 6 points in the last 3-week stretch of the regular season. The Alices also have a good RB1 who has a little over 900 yards on the season averaging around 6.3 yards per carry and as a team average of 7.1 yards per carry. Since their rushing game is primarily their strongest point on the offense. But, passing-wise, the Alices also have 3 players that have 200+ total yards on the season. Defensively, the Alices have gotten a lot better on their pass defense throughout the season. From being around 170 YPG in the early season, they have managed to drop it all the way down to around 114 YPG. While allowing 1 game over 100+ yards since Week 5. They also have picked up 14 interceptions so far this season and have dropped their YPC to down to 10.26 YPC. The rushing defense has seen its fair share of games as the season progresses as they allow 154 YPG, and has struggled a bit with the run-heavy offenses in the SIAC. However, there has been a lot of improvement too, since for a while, VL was hanging around the high 200/ low-mid 300 total YPG for a bit. And since Week 6 they have only allowed 44 points and 4 shutouts.

I think I would have too, but I bounce back and forth. Their Mr. Football candidate had 167 yards on 25 carries. 3 of his runs were long ones with a 65 yard TD early in the game and a 45 yarder late in the 3rd. He also had a 18 yard first down run. Aside from that Ben Davis really clamped down on him as he had 22 carries for 32 yards. They did try and run the ball and punt after Ben Davis got the pick 6 two times (even mixing in the QB running) and had to punt both times. with far less time than 9 minutes. Judging from the big pass plays they hit on Ben Davis I can see why they tried to sneak one in with 9 minutes to go on 2nd down. The problem was the QB tried to throw short to a WR on Zachary's side and he read it all the way.

That’s as good a guess as any..I thought we were being scouted via radio haha I don’t usually catch the coach’s show since I’m on the clock at that time. Honestly couldn’t tell you for sure.

BINGO! The EVSC schools wanted to put the clamps on tailgating so they pushed the ADs to agree to move the start times up to 6:30. Now that the host schools determine, Memorial and Castle did what should have been done all season long.

Even if Luers made it to the state game. I would not be paying just to watch it on my computer. They use to air it for free on television (with commercials of course).

And if you follow the FB football pages, those are the idiots that are running those programs. Nothing good will come from it. I am a HUGE proponent on educational based sports. Obviously it’s been a huge part of my life but more importantly they played a huge role in who I became. The lessons learned, the work ethic, being part of something bigger than yourself, etc. My daughter could play Softball a little bit. We did the travel thing. It’s a necessary evil if college is the goal. With that being said we had hard and fast rules about when she could play. She was a good enough athlete she could contribute to the BB team without doing all the summer crap. When DeVinney was at Seymour she was awesome to work with. She just asked for one weekend in the Summer for her team camp and would work around her schedule. That being said SB season started after BB season was over and went thru nationals. We played in ASA nationals so week 4 of the IHSAA calendar. She did not doing anything SB related until after Labor Day and picked it up again until the BB practice started. Fall is a HUGE recruiting time for SB. One BB practice started no SB until about the first of Feb, last couple weeks of BB season we would start doing tee work a couple of times a week until BB was over. When ever she took time off it took her about a month to get her bat sharp again. As a parent you walk a very fine line know when to push and when to back off. My daughter was very driven, college SB was her goal from the time she was about 7. She had a great college experience and had a pretty good career at Marian University. But most importantly she parlayed that into a career at Cummins. The biggest problem I see with club sports today is it is so watered down, kids are playing sports year round with no breaks, specializing, and it basically leads to burnout, repetitive stress type injuries, etc. Oh and unrealistic expectations. BB for her was an escape. She could just play and have fun. I supervise some travel SB on the weekends, I see kids who are going to struggle to make their HS team and they think college coaches are going to walking around handing out scholarships at any moment. And FWIW, anyone that tells you their kid is getting a full ride is lying, unless they play BB or VB.

No. I can give you all the BS criteria they tell us but the bottom line is Robert will do whatever he pleases and you will like it. I can tell you a crew in southern Indiana who in my opinion is an outstanding crew that have had the rating and eligibility to work the finals for the last four years and have been snubbed every year. Including being the #1 rated crew in the state one of those four years. Multiple state finals worked in multiple sports for the crew members. White hat has worked the finals in Football, Baseball, and Basketball. This is beginning to be a bone of contention among officials, we have a system in place but North Meridian just does whatever they please. You reach a point in your officiating career where you just say eff it, I got better things to do every Friday night. I retired from Friday nights and have been doing mostly MS and a few JV/Frosh games and I had a ball just working the games. No politics, no jumping thru all the BS hoops they force us to jump thru. I haven’t applied for the tournament in Softball since 2019 and we (our crew) opted to call it a day last February and I even had more fun during SB season this year. I was asked by Seymour’s athletic department to take care of the officials for their home games this year and I enjoyed it. Still a little fellowship with “the guys” and no responsibility. For me it’s always been more about being out with “my guys” on a Friday night than being an official. You’re a team, you’re involved in something bigger than you. Does that make any sense? Sorry for the rambling response I hope I’ve answered your question. Lastly I’ll say, you have no idea how many guys have asked me….”do you miss it?” And the answer is an emphatic no. I think we have a real problem coming in the not too distant future with football officials.

Other sanctioned sports skip the Semi-State round - Golf, Swimming, Track, and XC I know for sure. For 6A I think 8 team sectionals, a Regional, and then state final makes sense. Since 6A is capped at 32 teams, it will always be a 5 game tournament and you can just group teams by 8's. Not sure I would like that setup for any other classes. Remember when 6A was created they had a "dead week" between semi-state and state finals? Two weeks to prep for state finals, rather than round 1 opponent like currently. That adjustment was made after seeing how the tournament unfolded. I think we have seen enough 4 team sectionals at 6A to know that 8 would be better and the change should be made.

Yes. In normal timing, the game clock would start when the kickoff was legally touched. In Mercy Rule timing, it starts when the ball is kicked. Once it starts, Mercy Rule timing is in effect for the remainder of the game.

You could seed within the four regionals and then reseed for the semi state if that's important, but I think @Trojanmp52's suggestion was to random draw within the four regionals. @BTF said the IHSAA would never get rid of the sectional--which makes sense to me; it's probably a more meaningful championship than the regional to more around the state--so I suggested eliminating the regional round. This would give us 6 classes with the three game sectional, and the only difference would be that the winners of 5A and 6A sectionals advance to the semi state.

There is one really good team in the SIAC this year and the 6-3 teams go between meh and okay from week to week.

Definitely not flaming you - and I had the same thoughts myself - but I have grown to really enjoy it. It's an offense that truly all 11 players have to do their job in order for it to be effective. And the proof is in the pudding on the success Warsaw has had running it. In the 6 seasons under Coach Curtis, they have gone 48-16, won 2 conference championships (last NLC championship before that was back in 2001), their first ever sectional championship (2019) and playing in their 5th straight sectional championship game this Friday. They have averaged 30 PPG on offense over that time, and had 20 games of 40+ points scored. It might seep boring initially, but I feel like it can grow on any fanbase. Especially when you watch it ran to perfection like it was Friday night against Carroll. It's the great equalizer in my opinion. Yes, if you get down fast and early, it makes it tricky to get back in the ball game, and has happened a handful of times for the Tigers. But the pros outweight the cons from my observation.

The thing that upsets me the most (not gonna get a lot of traction on a forum like this, though). Is that many don't see themselves as TEACHERS 1st. They see themselves as 'hype men' within a program, 1st and foremost. There are numerous programs that we as officials can readily see are there to 'win'...but they also can quickly turn off the testosterone and get back to coaching/teaching. It's a mutual respect thing. I am positive that a particular coach who's kinda "Caveman like" wants to win every time he steps on the gridiron. But I also know that when the rubber hits the road, he (and his staff) have the understanding that what they do and react to, will directly impact the young men and women within their program. This is true of the overwhelming majority of HS coaches that I have encountered. But when I deal with those that see a 'game' as more than that of a 'game'. It truly concerns me as to what is going on within that program. The focus is skewed to something else. Parents/Boosters/Players/Fans all then become the mob which we as officials then have to deal with. And you wonder why we can't recruit new officials? As much as we like to be fans of the players on a Friday night. Remember MOST of these players will be finished with athletics when the last whistle blows in a loss during the playoffs. You can count on 1 hand the number of players that have made it to the NFL in a significant manner within a 5 year period from this state. When its all said and done, what do you want YOUR program remembered for? Success, of course. But sometimes that success comes in the form being able to reach young people and change their lives in a positive way. Victories not withstanding!

I think you can throw all the stats out the window on this one. Lincoln will be ready. May just come down to a gut check or two. Least amount of mistakes may win it. Whatever happens, I'm expecting a slobber knocker!

As usual, I'll let the film speak for itself. The only think I'll add, is that I'm a big fan of Sagarin (after about week 4). However, there are always teams that don't seem to match their rating (with only 9 games, and not a lot of crossover between classes/geography, the R-squared isn't always >.70). I've thought South Putnam was better than their rating all year. I truly believe they're a top-3 team in 1A, and would be competitive in the 2A tourney. I think Aiden Beadles (#11) is the best linebacker in 1A, and might be the best defensive player overall. Kid was all over the field and played a big part in limiting big play opportunities for LuHi. Their O-line did a great job giving their QB (Wyatt Mullin, #2) time to make big plays downfield. There aren't many other lines in 1A that will be able to do that against Lutheran. Say what you will about the two-week hiatus for Lutheran. I think the 7-point margin was all about South Putnam. Are there any other 1A teams aside from AC who can replicate that effort? We'll see.

Not disagreeing with your Franklin comments but it was a chess match between 2 mental midgets...just one side had way better players. IU late in Q4 in PSU's red zone down by 3, and runs the ball 3 straight times. It looked like Allen was playing for the attempt to tie vs trying to win. For crying out loud, your team has no big 10 wins and you are dead last in the conference. Get your doo dads reattached and actually try to take the lead. The wheels then fell off. SMH

Of course you don't want Westfield to take over everything Mr. Bragg. You and other elected officials want to control the massive growth that is coming to Sheridan and Adams township. But growth is coming, and within 50 years there probably won't be all that much that distinguishes Sheridan from today's Westfield. How is Sheridan Community Schools planning for this growth? I hope they have purchased sufficient real estate for the school building/expansions projects that are to come. Sheridan will not be a 1A enrollment classification for that much longer. And how will that affect the football history/tradition in Blackhawk Country?
