  1. After a very long night (it's not after 4:00 a.m.) We are back. More to do, but we are functional, enjoy. More from me after I get some sleep. ...g'night, DK

  2. Indeed, huge gain for them. He was great for us but Southridge is home for him, nobody blames him for going back. Mount Vernon did well with him for the short time they had him as well.

  3. I'll stick up for Southridge as there are many people that are very dear to me in Huntingburg....I root for them every week but week 4. My son is even close friends with the QB (Justin Leathers), at least until Friday. They have a very young team, they lack size and as stated by jets, numbers. Experienced talent is there, but that number is just a few. Give them a couple years, Coach B will get them back on track. With that said, they may suck in the regular season and may even have a very out of character losing season, but I don't think I would sleep on them in the sectional. 9 weeks may be just what Coach B needs to right the ship. But for now, the next 2 Friday nights are likely going to suck for them. Go Raiders! Except for 9/12....

  6. No body would have won games with those rockville teams after 08, but yet he kept producing winning season after winning season. Once he got things going in the right direction at the mess in Seeger he got kicked to the curb over something that wasn't even true. Things are trending up at FC and now he's battling the injury bug.

  7. The other way this could be an issue is if they are doing this with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down and one of the ineligible numbers was replaced by an eligible number (replace 63 with 36). On those downs you can only have one number exception. In my example, 36 is the exception. The other part of the rule is the numbering exception in that case has to be the snapper. By definition, the exceptions are interior players so 36 is the exception and not 13. So basically you can only do a swinging gate on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down if you have 5 ineligible numbers like the original formation. A FG scrimmage kick formation is likely only to be used for a FG attempt on those downs for a last second attempt at the end of the half. A team is very unlikely to use a swinging gate in those situations. For those old enough to remember the coach in Colorado who came up with the A-11 offense. That was the cause of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd down numbering exception. The A11 would have all 11 players on offense with eligible numbers. The snapper would get on the ball, but the other 10 players would start off the line with the QB lined up 10 yards behind the LOS. Before the snap, 6 of the players would shift to the LOS, get set for a second and then run a play. The formation met the definition of s scrimmage kick formation (punt version) so they could use any number of numbering exceptions. It created a lot of confusion because the defense didn't know until right before the snap who would be eligible by position. They were a smaller team playing larger teams so it was a way for them to be competitive. The rules committee felt they were exploiting the intent of the rule so they changed the rule to not allow a team to run the A-11 offense. But that change has confused a lot of officials. They think the snapper always has to be an interior lineman.

  12. So one thing I noticed while updating the Predict a Matchup Tool (shameless plug, I know), is there is currently negative homefield advantage in Jeff Sagarin's latest ratings. It's less than 0.2 points (0.15, actually) after three games. This means that the visitors have, so far, outscored the home teams. Historical data says it's not likely to remain that way. Still interesting, nonetheless! 14. Or could FWCS's have an attorney up here in Fort Wayne who'll have this thrown out as a "laughable" case? Not saying the situation was a laughable matter, just saying there may not be a case in the first place. All you're doing is speculating on something you know absolutely nothing about.

  23. We have a homemade Sky Cam. The design is loosely based on a bicycle-powered railroad handcar. The problem we've run into the first few weeks is that the cables are attached to the grandstand at Enlow Field, which has a little give, so there is some slack. When the operator gets to pedaling too fast, it tends to bounce and flip upside down. With effort, he can get himself flipped back over (similar to a turtle). Despite typical parochial volunteer pay ($25 per game and dispensation from Sunday mass that week), we've had trouble keeping the position filled. On the bright side, we have some phenomenal shots of the Big Dipper.

  25. Not many SR posters anymore on here - so to give some context. Our (SR) last losing season was 2005...it goes without saying - but we're staring down the barrel of that gun right now. Myriad of variables (that no one outside of the program cares about) so no need to go into them. It's not a stretch to say we should/could be sitting at 3-0, but we're not, so "we are what our record says we are" One thing I will say is the growing enrollment numbers without actual participation numbers going up has been a challenge...and anyone who has spent anytime around knows what I'm talking about. We have people who come in and say "I had NO IDEA" ...we are essentially playing a 3A tournament with a 1A student pool. Not excusing anything - but its the reality.

  28. It has been a tough year for the teams in the bottom of the poll so if both continue to win out both will most likely will make an appearance. Carmel has a real challenge this weekend at Louisville Trinity who are coming off a real tough loss last weekend to Moeller. If they get by that, and that is a big if, they have a good chance of running the board with a home game against Warren Central as a possible obstacle. Center Grove travels to Ohio in a couple of weeks to take on Trotwood-Madison, a decent but not outstanding Ohio team. After that, it appears that they should sail into the tournament. The one drawback for both teams is strength of schedule. One of my complaints with Indiana teams is they do not seem to want to schedule nationally relevant teams. And you don't have to bring in St. Thomas Aquinas or Duncanville, just someone like Chicago Mt. Carmel, any of the Cincinnati majors or the Detroit area teams. When I see teams like Merrillville, Brownsburg, Gibson Southern and some others reaching across state lines, it makes me wonder why the others don't. The IHSAA has eased the travel restrictions to allow nationally relevant teams to travel in here, so what are they waiting on?

The WRC, which has a tremendous history of building 1A/2A powers, has to come to terms with the fact that RP has arrived. They now have two choices. Get better, or get used to it.

  32. Well after the hiatus - here's some observations through the first 3 weeks: Mishawaka leads the pack after winning the early season battle over Concord. The Cavemen look to be poised for another NLC title and run at representing 4A North. They easily could be 3-0, but let one slip away to backyard rival Penn in week 2. Warsaw and Concord are right behind Mishawaka, in that order, since the Minutemen are already a loss down in the standings. I was very surprised to see the Tigers win on the road over Snider, and equally impressed with their effort in the 2nd half against Warren Central where they almost came back. Meanwhile, Concord looks to have the same firepower on offense as they've had in recent years. They are certainly not out of it yet, with the Tigers on deck for them in Week 5, and Warsaw and Mishawaka still left to battle the first week of October. NorthWood is still lurking, and can jump up this list quickly with a win this week at home against Mishawaka. They've been just as impressive on offense as Concord has been, and only lost to a strong Columbia City team by 3 to open the season. Friday will tell a lot about the Panthers. Are they contenders? Or pretenders? Plymouth looks to be a step above the remaining teams. They've only won 1 game so far, but faced some tough opponents in the nonconference schedule. They'll be able to prove they're the "leaders of the middle of the pack" over the next 2 weeks against Goshen and Wawasee. Then the back half of the season... we'll find out if they can pull off an upset or two. I'll put the remaining teams in order of Wawasee, Northridge, and Goshen. The Warriors snuck out a victory over Jimtown in week 1, and have score more through 3 weeks than they did the first 5 weeks last year. It takes time to get adjusted to that style of offense, and I have faith Wawasee will continue to get better. Meanwhile the Raiders are 0-3, played a tough nonconference schedule, but lost to the Rockies at home last week. Things don't get any easier for them the next 3 weeks. Finally, the Redhawks might have a victory under their belt, but after what I saw this past Friday, they are not a good team. Like Wawasee, I'm hopeful things can get turned around for them, and their visit to the Rock Pile on Friday night will tell us a lot about this squad.

  44. Seems like an ironic question coming out of Newburgh. Looking at the past 3 seasons, seems like they're doing a good job "putting it together", especially since the 3 seasons before that were losing seasons. I think I heard something along the lines of they could be the first SIAC team in history to have 4 straight 10+ win seasons if they do it this year.
