  3. Pre-MIC Lawrence Central who routinely beat MIC teams to get to Lucas Oil. Name the coaches to win a title in the highest class in the last 17 years. It's a very short list, two guys. Two state title appearances at LC coming from the south bracket. Only non-MIC coach to do that. Got LC to a level where they were able to join the MIC. He's done quite a lot at Warren other than just having elite talent. The 2012 Warren team year before Jayson came) that went 5-6 had more talent than the 2013 team that Jayson won a state title with. But still, him bringing his LC team into Warrior Stadium in the 2010 sectional and beating up on a Warren team that was mostly unchallenged by anyone in Indiana that season remains one of the more impressive things I've seen by a non MIC school vs a MIC school.

  4. 6a......................Carroll at #11 but no votes for Homestead. Carroll's 42-0 pasting of Luers was an eye opener, I get it, but watch out for Homestead this year. 5a......................Michigan City over Valpo? Michigan City is good, but I think Valpo fits somewhere in the Top 3.

  7. I have coached a team that had been down 30 and we fought back and lost by 4 we were not demoralized, we put the ball on the ground 4 times lost them all and threw a pick that led to a score. Just because a team has given up points doesn't mean they are ready to give up. That's a poor philosophy that I would never espouse in a team. Give up if you want ill coach to keep trying in the face of even extreme adversity.

  12. Stinky, Stink, Stink 1.2.3. week 2 in the EIAC sit back and listen to me. Cub Poo @ Boom Boy / River Rats / KFI - Even Though the KFI was lost last week Stink looks for Boom Boy to get his River Rats back on track. Last year KFI started a four game winning streak with this game. Not looking ahead, but get the Boom Tacos ready cause you may just see the same happen for the 2019 River Rats. Home opener on the Hill, should be a show. Stink was told yesterday in the shop (again) that the flamethrowers, smoke bombs (red, blue, white) are all in store for pre-game ceremonies. Boom Boy will be in his fine whites, and the Taco truck will have a new sauce for all River Rats to try. You can't have a Boom Boy Taco without the new sauced called KFI!!!!! Boom Boy / River Rats / KFI - 35 Cub Poo 13 Wig Wam @ Casketnation - Last year Coach U had a squad and went into Wig Wam Town and put all the Indians to sleep. Last week the Indians got off to a very slow start (down 20-7) before gathering around the fire, asking for some spiritual help and finding a way to win. Casketnations win last week - okay not impressive over Pantherville, that was expected by Stink. This week is a different bird. Both schools really enjoy this game and Stink believes there is even a game trophy at stake. Throw last year out the door, this year the game goes down to the wire. Wig Wam Town - 21 Casket Nation 14 Fake Ohio Boys (oak hills) @ BiG ReD & BlAcK - The boyz from Ohio got the Trojans last year. Stink missed this game last year, but not this year. EC will be too much. EC 21 - O-H-I-O 7 Chicken & Jo Joes @ Spartan Town - This was one of Jo Joes wins last year. Stink expects the same. Jo Joes will be on the road, but expect Wildcat fans to line the streets by CVS & Cottageville to welcome the team home after going 2-0. Jo Joes 28 - Spartan Town 6 Basketball Town (New Castle) @ Stewart Town - Lions will be marching all over town. Lions win! Lions 21 - Basketball Town 7 Hondaburg @ Green Tigers - Those Pirates put it on the Bears last week, again, expected, not surprised. This week different story. Those Green Tigers are good. Green Tigers 35 - Hondaburg 14 Stink Town @ Bee Hive (Taylor OH) - Stink Town had a good showing last week. Man that Jungle was rocking. When you can get 18 deep during pre-game, thats a good night. Stink looks for his Tigers to recover and take care of business. Stink Town 35 - Bee Hive 14

  14. @Muda69, this one is made for you. It’s got race, drugs, the police state, social media, and the First Amendment, all rolled into one. Discuss: https://www.theindianalawyer.com/articles/moms-facebook-harassment-conviction-splits-appellate-panel?utm_source=news-update&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=2019-08-27 Mom’s Facebook harassment conviction splits appellate panel August 27, 2019 | Katie Stancombe A mother who made threatening social media posts toward a police officer after her son’s death has lost an appeal of her harassment conviction. The Indiana Court of Appeals divided on the sufficiency of evidence supporting her conviction, with a dissenting judge declaring the state’s criminal harassment statute “unconstitutionally overbroad and facially invalid because it is susceptible of prohibiting protected expression.” Constance McGuire was convicted of Class B misdemeanor harassment after she posted on Facebook that members of the Kokomo Police Department “better watch out” and that “this mother is on a rampage and ready to shoot and kill.” McGuire took to social media after the death of her son, who died after consuming methamphetamine during a traffic stop in which Kokomo police officer Jeramie Dodd was involved. Upon her son’s death, McGuire made a Facebook post that included several threats against Dodd that were later reported to police by one of McGuire’s more than 1,000 Facebook friends. The Indiana Court of Appeals heard oral arguments in the case last month, considering McGuire’s argument on appeal that her specific Facebook posts were constitutionally protected and that her conviction amounted to an unconstitutional impairment of speech. An appellate panel consisting of Judges L. Mark Bailey, Patricia Riley and Rudolph Pyle III split on McGuire’s conviction, with the majority affirming the trial court in Constance J Mcguire v. State of Indiana,18A-CR-02554. First, the majority concluded that McGuire had the expectation that the offending conduct would come to the attention of Dodd when she transmitted the messages online. It additionally found her “profanity-laced threat” urged Dodd to commit suicide, which the majority considered as obscene under Indiana Code § 35-45-2-2(a)(4)(B). However, Pyle dissented in a separate opinion, finding no evidence was introduced showing McGuire’s Facebook posts fit within an unprotected category. Specifically, Pyle noted that the state failed by charging McGuire with harassment instead of intimidation, and that the harassment statute is “unconstitutionally overbroad.” Story Continues Below The dissenting judge continued to argue that the “true threat” analysis did not apply to the case and the state did not present sufficient evidence of McGuire’s intent. “This dissent does not condone the disturbing, crass statements made by McGuire about Officer Dodd,” Pyle wrote in his dissent. “However, our primary duty is to uphold the principles enshrined in the Federal and State Constitutions. When a statute falls short, this Court has a duty to reverse a conviction, even if it might leave a sour taste in one’s mouth.” But in affirming, the majority found McGuire’s speech amounted to a constitutionally proscribable true threat and that her speech could be regulated consistent with federal constitutional principles. “… n view of the true threat contained in the speech, there is sufficient evidence McGuire lacked the intent to engage in ‘legitimate communication’ with regard to the United States Constitution,” Bailey wrote for the majority. “Moreover, because the speech was not unambiguously political and posed a threat to safety, there is sufficient evidence McGuire lacked the intent to engage in ‘legitimate communication’ with regard to the Indiana Constitution,” the majority concluded. It therefore found no failure of proof and determined McGuire’s conviction concerned proscribable speech.

  21. Wow! Clubhouse leaders at 70%. Not sure if I should be happy or be looking over my shoulder. One week does not a season make! My best impression of coachspeak “We were just fortunate to have the ball bounce our way from time to time last week. Got a lot of things we need to address this coming week. We’ll get back to the basics and hit it hard Friday night. Just feel real good to be in the position we are. Can’t take our foot off the gas. Go Senators!”

  22. Not true: Your dominating and play all you JV the entire 2nd half. They still have 4 quarters on Saturday or Monday. My issue is not Varsity to JV/Freshman It is the fact that we cannot play 5 quarters a week with our Freshman/JV teams anymore. So we played last night with 13 and will play Thursday with 14. Instead of 27 JV kids where I picked better freshman to play a quarter each.

  23. I went up to the Official, stated that I was going to be putting #13 at Center for the last 8 mins of a JV game, He was ok with it, he then went to the opposing coach to let them know, they were ok with it. We moved forward to finish the game. If a kid played 8 quarters in a week that is a violation. I can tell you in my 16 years coaching JV games, when I see quarter rules broken, I do exactly NOTHING. I could care less. Not my monkey, not my circus. We at Rensselaer choose to NOT break the quarter rule.

  24. Yeah that's one I can't figure out. They played each other every year from 1989-2017. Jennings County led the series 15-14. This is just a theory but my guess is that Greensburg made the decision to end the series. If Jennings County is willing to continue playing Batesville, who has won 15 of the last 16 games against them, why would they end a series against a team they were actually competitive with? Greensburg now plays a good 2A school in Triton Central in week 2.

  32. It hasn't been updated yet, but when accounting for the fact that Pioneer scored 932 points last season, it is second all time nationally for points scored in a season and smashed the former Indiana record of 811 points set by the 1988 Sheridan team. I knew that Pioneer led the nation in points scored last season, but I didn't know that it even ranked in the top ten all time, let alone second. Pioneer scored 932 points last season and allowed only 49. Most dominant 1A team ever. https://nfhs.org/RecordBook/Record-book-result.aspx?CategoryId=23

  36. I wouldn't go handing out the CIC trophy just yet. Much being read into 2 games against Marion and Pendleton Heights here. Here's my two cents. I was at the Marion-Eastbrook game. To me, Marion looked like they are every bit of a top-five 4A squad. I knew this would be a tough game for Eastbrook given the turnover they experienced from last season's state finalist squad but I was fairly impressed with how they held up given the circumstances. They could go back to the 2A state championship game this year and not see any team with the amount of speed they saw at Marion. Yet they hung in throughout the first half, and rallied a bit late in the game after a couple of big defensive breakdowns had given Marion control of the game. One thing that impressed me was that they played the whole game without having a penalty enforced against them (only one called that ended up being declined if memory serves). Coming into the game with so many players participating in their first varsity start against a top team in a larger class, I figured I would see laundry early and often all over the field. That was not the case. Eastbrook did struggle with Marion's speed on both sides of the ball. On offense, the Panthers were able to move the ball on the ground but could not break away for a big play all night. Their running game seemed to get a few yards a carry but there weren't any big runs of the 20+ yard variety, or perhaps even of the 10+ yard variety. There were a couple of pass plays that were open and they just missed which could've changed the game if they had been able to hit them. On defense, Eastbrook competed well most of the game but you have to give Marion credit. They are very tough to defend. Eastbrook started some young linebackers who found themselves out of position on a couple of plays that ended up as long Marion touchdowns. Those plays are learning experiences for young players. In another game, they probably cost them first downs instead of touchdowns. Marion had the speed to exploit those to their fullest. Either way, if the linebackers learn from those plays, and I'm betting it's been pointed out to them in the film room, that makes them a better team the rest of the season. As for the Pendleton Heights game, I did not get the benefit of seeing it. However, I do have family in that school and they told me that Pendleton lost most of their top players from last season and did not figure they would be very good this season. They were fairly surprised the first game was as close as it was. I'm familiar with Coach Richman and I'm sure he'll get the most out of what he has but it doesn't look like a squad that is going to finish anywhere near the top 10 in their class. That said, a win is a win and the Indians beat the first team on their schedule. It's the first data-point of the season and we'll see more about what it means as the season progresses. They are certainly big up front and should be very difficult for anyone to slow down on the ground but if they run into a team that can physically match them at the line of scrimmage or enough speed to get to the ball and gang tackle at the line of scrimmage, it could make things pretty interesting. Still a few weeks away from these two meeting on the field. I think Eastbrook learns alot about itself this week against Delta. Mississinewa looks to have an easy task on hand with a down New Haven program.

  37. I have two takeaways from watching the Panthers matchup with Lapel last week: 1) If they can figure out how to get the offensive line to work cohesively as a unit, the offense will be serviceable. It looks like Elwood wants to be a pass-first team, but the QB had about 2-3 seconds to get a throw off the majority of the time. I think they have some decent weapons that could be used in the passing game, but again, they have to be able to give the QB time to get the throw to the correct receiver. 2) The defense has a lot of work to do, specifically in the secondary. There were a lot of wide open receivers Friday and Lapel was able to pick them apart. Also, there were times where the QB or RB should have been taken down in the backfield, but the defense didn't breakdown or execute the tackle. Making adjustments on these fixable mistakes for a young team will be paramount and I'm hoping that there will be a difference in the defense over time. I don't have a grasp on the roster as a whole, but I think they are pretty young overall and I look for them to progress as the season goes on. Adapting to the new coach will be a long process, but I think if they give him time, Coach Brown will get them moving in the right direction. That's the perception I'm getting from talking to others, but you can't have a new coach/staff on a short leash. Have to let them develop and build a culture.

  41. MG was a lot more physical than they were a year ago. Tipton lost 17 starters and are playing mostly Juniors and sophomores a freshman. MG is a team you have to get a lead on early because they just eat the clock on offense. Never throw a pass and 3-4 yards a pop, while taking the playclock down. Took my young Blue Devils a while to get in an offensive rhythm. I like what the MG coach is doing. They will keep getting better in my opinion. You can tell their kids like playing for him.

  42. Ole Miss is good but i wouldn't say they are clear favorites to win. Eastbrook handled Marion a lot better than i thought they would, that Marion team is FAST!!!!! and Eastbrook was only down 14-7 at half. This week against Delta will be test for Eastbrook, saw some film on Delta and they look a lot better than last year or Muncie Central is that bad. Was very shocked when we heard the half time score of MG and Tipton!

  44. Cass dominated the line of scrimmage all night and limited Pioneer's inside running game. Pioneer appeared to be a work in progress offensively. Pioneer will make some noise in the sectional if the inexperienced offensive line can improve. Pioneer looked a bit lost without #4 in the backfield. Defensively for Pioneer, it could have been much worse. Multiple sure fire TD drops by Cass kept the game close. Hats off to Cass. Humphrey and Eurit are special players, as well as the QB.
