  2. https://www.bannergraphic.com/story/2633019.html?rand=8639 Great article highlighting the great sportmanship shown to each other by local football rivals. North Putnam and Southmont were recognized for their great sportsmanship towards each other in a hotly contested 2 point win by the Cougars. Several players were noted for helping the other teams' players up off the field and saying "Good tackle" or "Nice play" - great to see this noticed by the officials. South Putnam was thanked by the North Putnam AD for keeping things classy and leaving the visitor's locker room in spotless condition after a tough loss to North Putnam. This is a testament to the leadership in place at the school with a new coach and principal.

  3. South Newton may not be as fortunate with the athletes that step on the field but from my experience the last couple years of playing those teams Coach Durham has made them extremely respectable and hardworking men and to me that is what really matters on down in their lives rather than how many HIGH SCHOOL football games they won!

  5. I think there are plenty of advantages joining the SIAC. We play most of the Evansville schools in baseball and basketball already like you said. In football, we already play Ev. Memorial and Vincennes, sure our records may only be 3-6 or 5-5, but we play teams that are more competitive. Which helps us play a full game as opposed to always taking your starters out 2nd half. Plus it will help the kids get use to seeing larger crowds and more fields with turf. A lot of times teams wont' see this until they get deep in the tournament.

  6. Heh.....I don’t usually have much of anything to say either before or after this game. God knows, I never try to predict it. That said, I agree with your comments elsewhere about Cheek. He seems to have slotted in very nicely after Nondorf. My sense is that the skilled positions are even more experienced than last season (excepting Cheek....but, as stated above and by you elsewhere, I feel like it’s almost a “reload”). Again, my sense is that the Defense is equivalent (maybe better) than last year. Still, not having played Lawrence Central this year (NorthWood is a worthy opponent...but they aren’t Lawrence Central) and playing what appears to be a very down Roncalli, I still find it hard to compare teams. Brebeuf is typical Brebeuf - not ready for prime time the first game or so (although it really felt like they quit before the half this year - which isn’t typical). This is a good Chatard team of that I have little doubt. How good remains to be seen. I simply haven’t seen Cathedral this year (and don’t know the kids coming out of CYO like I used to), I don’t have any sense of the team other than the results so far of their schedule and some of the catfighting comments I’ve seen here. They beat Noblesville by about the same as Carmel. Beating Moeller is huge....I don’t care if Moeller is up, down or sideways it’s still huge. Playing Elder at The Pit to a stand-off is a big deal. Obviously, there has been much written here about how good they are and how they are a top 4-5 team in the state overall. I’ll defer. I do hope it’s a helluva competitive game with no serious injuries that Chatard finds itself somehow winning in the end.

  7. I prefer to listen to 103.3 FM WAXL with @Bcaster and Michael Crews! Does it matter who is turning around and handing the ball off 45 times?

  9. Being a part of this great game for about a decade was an awesome experience. I played in 2 of these games and coached in 8. It was always fun to see the kids get fired up to compete with one another. I remember playing middle school, freshmen and varsity sports against great players like Cole Seifrig, Ryan McMannaway and others. It is a shame this series will be ending, however it (joining the SIAC) was in the best interest of the Wildcats. I hope this is a slobber-knocker, and a fitting end to the series.... (for now, I hope!)

  10. One of the most entertaining things about message boards is there is never a shortage of experts who seem to have all available knowledge about what's going on in the programs of different schools. They know what's being done, why it's being done, and what the outcome of those actions will be for the team in question. They apparently are able to attend the practices of these teams and observe and understand completely what is being taught, what is being worked on, and why. They are extremely familiar with the skills sets of those players. They have a clear understanding of what the short term and long term plan is for those teams. Then they are able to take all of this information, apply their own standards, and determine whether these things are acceptable. I hope some day when I grow up I'm able to accumulate so much knowledge.

  12. Huh? Haven't they played for the state championship twice in the last 5 years? Aren't they 2-2 against Carmel in that stretch? Think you're extrapolating a very small sample size.

  13. Today is national suicide prevention day. I just simply wanted to let all of you know you are all loved more than you'll ever know by the people in your life. There isn't a day in my life that goes by that I don't think about my friend. I've come to terms that I cannot change what happened in his life, but maybe.. this post will help someone or help you all help someone struggling in their life. Please ask for help if you need it, please.

  20. Are you serious? Yes it was in their best interest. I think a normal Jasper football season in the past they could easily go 6-3. And it helps tremendously with the other sports.

  21. He was our leading rusher last season and without him opponents can key on Wetzel and try to make the other backs beat them, Don't get me wrong Vaal Rodgers and Mundy are all good backs but its nice having that running QB. also would miss his speed in the secondary .

  22. Last season Jasper Didn't play Castle or Bosse in Boys basketball but went 7-1 against the SIAC including winning the 4A sectional. Losses Memorial Wins Reitz twice, North twice, Mater Dei, Harrison and Central.

  25. Correct. That was exactly my point with his comparison with Linton & NV. I think Linton has been better than NV. Period. Not a coach being better than the other per se.

  37. Its the oldest trick of the GID book 1) Game week, user from an opposing school decides on Game week to create an account 2) Thinks to themselves, you know what will really rally they troops: If I make a user name, pretending to be the opposing school's coach/fan/player 3) proceed with action plan and makes 1st post to flame up the internet message board, then the other team players/coaches/fans/ whoever says, LOOK, YOU SEE WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ONLINE..... Motivational tactic 4) Get snuffed out quickly by site mods and squashed Rinse Repeat
