  1. Are all the Memorial transfers eligible for week one this year? I recall that was a problem for week one last year.

  2. Has anyone started a pick ‘em for this year yet? If not, I could facilitate if there’s enough interest.

  3. Week 1 is here! The first week is always a difficult week to judge / guess the winners of the matchups. We don’t really know a lot about anyone at this point. Here are my Week 1 NLC predictions: Calumet at Plymouth: I would love to see Plymouth come out and be competitive; however, I don’t see them winning this game. With Calumet having a new coach, it may help Plymouth, however, not enough to win. Calumet 35 Plymouth 13 Concord at Elkhart: Concord was a weird team last year in that they played Mishawaka and Northridge very well last year and didn’t perform well other weeks. Elkhart beat the teams they were supposed to and lost to whom they were supposed too last year. I think Elkhart is going to be better than last year. With that said, I think Elkhart will win, but Concord will keep it close. Elkhart 42 Concord 35 Jimtown at NorthWood: This game is usually a good matchup that most would prefer to see later in the season. With that said…I don’t think that Jimtown will be able to keep up with NorthWood’s offense. I think this is one of two running clocks in week 1. NorthWood 49 Jimtown 13 Mish. Marian at Mishawaka: I’m not sure what we will get from Mishawaka this year. They lost most of the fellas in the trenches; however, the younger guys may step up. I don’t see Marian being all that great this year. I’ll take Mishawaka at home but not by a lot. Mishawaka 17 Marian 7 Northridge at North Side: Probably the best game of week 1. I think Northridge will be better than they were last year, and North Side is trending upward and played really well last year. This will be a slugfest between the Summit and NLC. I will give the nod to the home team in this contest. North Side 35 Northridge 28 Tippy Valley at Wawasee: I don’t know a lot about Valley, however, they have been pretty good the last couple of years. On the other side, Wawasee has not been good the last couple of years. I hope they boys in Syracuse can turn things around throughout the season and they can be competitive. I feel like Valley will win easily. Tippy Valley 40 Wawasee 10 Warsaw at Michigan City: Warsaw may be the best in the NLC this year, Michigan City may be in the bottom of the Duneland. I don’t think Michigan City will be too competitive in this game and my 2nd running clock game of the year. Warsaw 42 Michigan City 7

  5. I'll try to keep up with as many lower levels as possible and post scores when I know em.

  6. Correct. But you and I both know that teams like Ben Davis and Warren Central rely heavily on speed, whereas Penn always relied on strength and mechanics. I'd want to slow them down by any means possible. If Penn played one of those schools on a neutral field, and the Penn coach had the opportunity to pick turf or grass, 100/100 coaches would pick grass. Does rain and snow affect the favorite and the underdog equally? I would argue no. Bad elements brings a good team's level of play down to their opponent. I think it was an Indy poster who called it "the great equalizer." I'm not saying grass is an equalizer by any means, far from it. I'm just saying that if I don't have a bunch of speed burners myself, then I sure as hell don't want to play a bunch of speed burners on turf. I agree, Ben Davis could have dropped 100 on Penn in 2017 if they wanted to. But I'd bet they wouldn't hit 63 on grass. I'm not sure how turf wouldn't make a difference. Create a poll Temp. I'll only concede if 80% of the vote is your favor. Wouldn't that favor a team that relied heavily on speed?

  7. Aren’t the Penn players also slower as a result or are they playing on turf while BD/Warren is playing the same game on grass? I’m so confused here. Let’s say you and I race 100 meters on flat ground and you beat me by 2 seconds..then we repeat the race a day later but run 100 meters up a 2% incline would I suddenly be within less than a second or would the margin still be the same?

  12. Football is back! Lots of familiar faces in the WRC this year, but a handful of standouts have moved on. Should be very interesting to see the results of some of these games. North Vermillion at North Central(Farmersburg) - The T-Birds have pretty low numbers, but they always seem to play hard. The Falcons should handle business here, but look for a long season if they don't. NV 28-14 Parke Heritage at Linton - Oh boy. I heard the Woolfs were flying around on D at the Jamboree. But I also heard they couldn't score either. They'll be doing none of that at Linton. Miners are just too much. Linton 48-0 Pike Central at Riverton Parke - The Chargers have another new coach (3rd in 6 years) and have to drive all the way to Mecca. The Panthers look to start off on the winning side for the 3rd straight year(without 'Mr. RP') It was confirmed that they had over 50 kids on the sidline Friday night. RP 28-7 Seeger at Lafayette Central Catholic - The Patriots have struggled winning their opening game since the 'Legend' left. I don't think the trip to Lafayette will be much different this year. Knights win a close one. LCC 28-21 Finneytown(OH)? at Attica - I don't know what is going on here. First it was South Bend Riley, now Finneytown(OH). And the Wildcats' website says they're playing another Ohio school. Harrell says it's at Attica versus the Ramblers. Does it matter? Finneytown picks the score South Vermillion at West Vigo - The kids from Clinton are loaded. Looks like they beat up on some bigger Terre Haute schools at their Jamboree. Traditionally this one went to the Vikings. All Wildcats here. SV 49-14 Tri County at Covington - Flip a coin. New coach for the Trojans. Cavaliers have the edge since their coach is in his second year. TC 21-20 Fountain Central at Southmont - Saturday night special. (Hopefully, this isn't becoming the norm.) The Mounties won pretty easily last year. I don't know what they have returning. The Mustangs look to continue to improve. Southmont in a close one. Southmont 24-22

  14. North Vermillion @ North Central: I'm going to take the Falcons in this one. The Thunderbirds aren't the power house they use to be. It must be a law to pass the playbook down at NC when you get fired... I'll take the Falcons by two scores. Woofs @ Linton: Not much to say about this one... Linton by however much they want. Pike Central @ Riverton Parke: Pike Central put up a fight last year against the Panthers. Heard they lost some guys but so did they panthers. Wonder how they will fare without the Hazzard kid? Heard they had some other athletes, we shall see... 42-24 Seeger @ LCC: Seeger I think will still be in the conference race at the end of the year. We will see how they are after the loss of all those seniors. But can anyone in the WRC compete with the Catholic schools? I think it's time for them to join their own division. 38-24 Riley @ Attica: Not sure who Riley is. I heard that Attica has a few more kids out this year. I also heard they played in some competitions this summer which is a plus from the last few years. Not sure about this game, maybe its time for Attica to win a football game. South Vermillion @ West Vigo: Heard the Mildcats threw for almost 300yds in 2 quarters the other night. This Garzo brother might be better than the other. Barret might ride into the sunset after his studs graduate. The Vikings might get pounced on by the Mildcats.. 56-18 Tri County @ Covington: I am going to take Covington week 1. Looking at Tri County's stats this might be one of Covington's few wins this season. Who knows.. Covington does have a new coach who is alumni and might have something rolling up there on the river. I just don't know if they can do it after the season they had last year... I think this game may be closer than people think. 24-18 Fountain Central @ Southmont: Saturday games suck... Heard the mildcats have 3 this year... I don't think southmont will be anything specail. Herbie and the mustangs return a few guys. Hard telling what the Hall of Fame coach has in store for us this year...

  16. I think this an important point that is being overlooked. “Lying” is an intentional act. Under the circumstances it is certainly possible that Khaki Boy said something that wasn’t actually true, but which he believed to be true. That’s not “lying.” So, it is perfectly conceivable that he has good grounds for refusing to cop to “lying,” even though there is incontrovertible evidence that what he said was inaccurate.

  19. Guessing you aren't much different than the majority of Michigan fans. You know that the old " 2 wrongs don't equal a right" saying. No one is justifying Tennessee (other than Vols fans perhaps) and no one is ever saying the NCAA is consistent. NCAA has a bad record when it comes to consistency and prioritization. (my opinion) But as stated on this forum before, coaches lying and/or perceived interfering with an investigation does not seem to end well for the coach. 20. I was at the Dwenger Carroll scrimmage. 1. Jimmy S looked very good. Quick decisions. Good reads. More zip this year. Deep ball looked good. 2. BD looked better on the O Line than last year. They will however struggle. #5 for Bd was very good. Linebacker for BD was good too. Christian something. Id use him on offense too. 3. BD has a stable of average running backs with the same name and should not be at running back. 4. Steely is a beast. And it appears he has a younger brother. 5. BD new QB looked good but threw a couple picks(or 1 and 1 should’ve been) 6. Overall, BD looked better than I thought. They have, as usual, a group of kids that are passionate about winning as a team. However, Carroll will beat them by 35 minimum in regular season and BD might lose 6-7 games with their schedule. Wrong year to schedule Brownsburg and Moeller Anyone else have a scrimmage report?

  23. Thoughts on my Bluejackets after Friday's scrimmage with BNL... O Line is a work in progress. We have two starters that will not be ready to go until week 2. Turner is solid at QB. If we can keep him upright, he'll put up some huge numbers this year. RB is Gavin Robinson, who is a really good athlete. Only problem is that he quit in the month of July, then came back out last week. We played him JV in scrimmage and he dominated. Do we throw him in the fire Friday night or give him a game or two to "earn it?" WRs are a bright spot. Kale England and Lucas Gosnell are matchup nightmares with their size. Wigley and Luman bring in some speed. Bottom line, nothing matters if we can't figure out the line. Defensively, we are very young. We have 2 freshman starting in Kling and Mullis, but I wouldn't be shcoked if we had 4-5 freshman starting by the end of the year. Physically, they are ready, but this will be a learning process. BNL looked very good offensively, but it was just a scrimmage. Another concern I have is depth. Coach Kling has done a great job of building numbers back up,but I'll be curious to see what we look like down the stretch in the 2nd half this Friday. I was impressed with how we got better throughout the year last season, and hope that will continue. Once this freshman class gets their feet wet, Coach Kling will make a jump with this program. Hopefully it's sooner, rather than later.

  24. Thanks for sharing this info, I'll give it a try. I usually like Upland products, recently had their Paw Paw sour which was excellent. A few years ago I had a "Boiler Gold", brewed by People's Brewing Company in Lafayette. It tasted like old, stinky feet. But then again most of the products from PBC taste that way.

  25. They've played in the regular season four times before, so it shouldn't be a surprise that they scheduled one another. They are 2-2 in those games. In that thread, Temp was asking what would make Snider a contender in 5a.........by coming within how many points of Warren Central. My number was 17, and that's not a knock on Snider. It's more about having half the resources WC has and catching them on an upswing. Many are predicting Warren to be one of the best teams in 6A this year. Snider's planning on winning on Friday night, no doubt about it..........and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they did. But I've got to go with the Warriors in this one.

  28. He agreed to the punishment lol. 4 games (against nobodies) for allegedly lying to NCAA investigators, which has gotten multiple coaches fired and in some cases show-cause penalties, was best case scenario for Harbaugh. The infractions committee isn’t rejecting the agreement put in place and walking away. They want blood. This is akin to the prosecutor pulling a plea deal at the 11th hour. Prosecutors don’t pull plea deals and then drop the case altogether.

  29. It is a 15.5 hour drive, with stops, I would say it will be a 18+ hour trip in the team bus. Guess we will see if the long road trip thing plays into the game. Wait, I'm betting they have their our charter plane, so never mind.

  31. Watched the Ben Davis/Westfield scrimmage. The Giants looked pretty good. I think defensively they only gave up one big play over the top and spent a lot of time in Westfield's offensive backfield defensively. On offense, BD moved the ball very easily into Westfield's territory. They bogged down in the red zone, and that's disappointing and something to work on. Unfortunately, the stream cut out and I didn't get to see the Giants scrimmage Carmel.

  36. Wow, where to start. Roughly twenty years ago I was asked by Rivals to get with some other posters on their forum to compile a Top 100 for that site after Dallas Jackson was removed from their staff. That started my interest in compiling the poll for discussion and debate among others with similar interests in the national aspect of the game. Dallas Jackson soon established his own site and requested that I post exclusively on his site, which I did. In the following years, I have added other sites, including this one, to my "customer" base. My methodology is simple. I read, watch, and analyze this game on a daily basis from May to January. I am not smart enough to develop nor do I believe in algorithms. I am constantly viewing MaxPreps, rivals and other forums to gather all the information I can on teams throughout the country. I attend as many games as possible throughout the season and watch games both on TV and streaming services. For instance, next weekend I am going to Massillon, Ohio to watch four of the Cleveland area's best teams play four state champions, including Center Grove from Indiana. This does not only give me a chance to gauge those teams, but also a gauge on each state's strength. The following weekend, I will not only attend a game (most likely Warren Central at Carroll) but also watch the national games being broadcast on ESPN as part of their kickoff weekend. With all that of background, plus empirical data from prior seasons, I compile team rankings for every state, yes that includes states like Wyoming, Rhode Island, and other non-power states. From there I compile a Top 100 by looking at game results, player evaluations and the state's strength to compile the list. Hope this helps.

  37. Agreed. Plus, I don’t think regular season games are needed as measuring sticks. The failures of previous postseason games, those alone should be the measuring sticks. I’ll go back to Columbus East as an example. In 2006, 2008, 2011, and 2012 we fell to Cathedral at semi-state each time. Coach Gaddis didn’t feel the need to schedule Cathedral or even Roncalli to gauge what the measuring stick was. Previous experiences of playing Cathedral in the postseason gave him the insight needed of what it took to win those games. Gaddis was a great communicator and had a tremendous ability to convey this message to his players so that they understood what was expected. He knew, and they knew, they had to be above that level if they wanted to beat Cathedral and/or win a state championship. The tide turned in 2013 en route to a 4A state title and then Columbus East finally got the Cathedral monkey off their back in 2017 by drubbing them 42-13 en route to a 5A state title. When we smoked New Palestine at semi-state by 35 en route to the 2013 4A state title, Kyle Ralph didn’t decide to go out and beef up the schedule to prepare for a rematch with Columbus East. He inspired his team to hit the weight room and motivated them by saying Columbus East was the measuring stick if they wanted to win a state title. It paid off. They came back in 2014 and were bigger and stronger than before. A last second field goal got them the win against us in the 2014 semi-state and they throttled New Prairie in the 4A state title game a week later. Therefore, I feel like Carroll and Homestead should already know what the measuring stick is based on how their last few postseasons ended. I’m not sure regular season games against those Indy suburb schools are needed. Needless to say, all teams are different. What worked for Columbus East and New Palestine may not work for others. 6A is also another beast entirely so one could definitely make the argument the rules are different in that classification. I just know I really enjoy following football in the northeast part of the state, especially in the immediate Fort Wayne area. You guys have a ton of talent and a lot of high-quality football gets played there. I’m thankful WANE 15 posts their game highlight clips on YouTube every week so I can keep track. Best of luck to all this season.
