  1. Yeah, the announcers of the Purdue game commented all game long how athletic and mobile Card is, yet the Boilers tried running up the middle over and over on short yardage situations. I'm guessing IU would like to have Penix back as well. Back to Steele, I watched all of the UCLA offensie posessions. He definately looks like he belongs. Kid is still a beast. Congrats to him. Stories like his and Bradon Fiske (Michigan CIty) are positive reasons to support the transfer portal. I have not heard Fiske's name since he was an unheralded OL commit to Western Michigan years ago. He took advantage of the portal to get one year of playing DL for Florida State. He had 2 tackles against LSU and was int he DL rotation all game.

  2. ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Kenneth Grant earned a game ball after Michigan football defeated East Carolina last Saturday, and for good reason. The sophomore defensive tackle was only credited with a lone quarterback hurry against the Pirates, but he impacted the game throughout the afternoon. The highlight came midway through the first quarter, when a stunt got him free to the QB, forcing an early throw and creating Mike Sainristil’s interception. Later in the half, a would-be hurry and big hit were negated by a holding penalty. While the hard stats don’t pop off the page, Grant’s PFF grade — 85.5 in 20 snaps — and the 11 ECU rushes stopped for two yards or fewer better reflect his impact. And watching from afar as he served a suspension, Jim Harbaugh took notice: “KG to me was the guy,” Harbaugh said on In the Trenches with Jon Jansen. “Kenneth Grant, his ascension as a football player. I mean, he was a gift from the football gods when he showed up. But he just keeps getting better and better. “Some of the moves, the athleticism he showed, all the things we see every single day. Got that pressure that really caused that interception to be thrown just a little bit short. A little bit, right there where Mike could make a great play. Had another really good pressure and hurry and hit on the quarterback. They were throwing the ball quick, but KG was getting there. His presence was felt.” The former four-star prospect — once described as a “gift from the football gods” by Harbaugh — appeared in all 14 games in 2022. He’s poised to step into a bigger role on the interior for the Wolverines following Mazi Smith’s departure to the NFL. Grant forms part of the rotation with Kris Jenkins, Mason Graham, Rayshaun Benny and Cam Goode. “I think Kenneth Grant’s gonna be a name everyone’s gonna know about. He’s a monster in the middle and has a chance to be a really, really dominant type of player here,” defensive coordinator Jesse Mintersaid this spring. Grant met with the media late last month to discuss his expectations for his sophomore season. Here’s what he said: On his offseason weight loss of 20 pounds: Coach Herb did a really good job. I really focused with him and Abigail on nutrition to really get down and be compact and put more muscle on. I'm definitely happy with that. I move a lot better. Really just working out heavy. I started creatine — that really helped. It gave me a lot of energy. On how he’s changed as a player in Year 2 after the weight loss: It changed me a lot. I could be on the field a lot more. I have a lot more stamina. Our conditioning test, that really helped. I passed it with ease, to be honest. What you should expect is me to be on the field more, not just on run downs. I can contribute on the pass, too, and go for long drives. On the players he’s learned from the most at Michigan: Really our whole D-line. We be together in the meeting room just to help each other out. It's never like, who’s a leader? We're all leaders in that room, so we help each other out. On players he tries to imitate: Vita Vea. I really look at his film a lot. He's a very style guy. He's a pass rusher, but he can dominate the run pretty well. So I try to model my game off of that. … I describe my game just like him. I showed that this fall camp. That’s what I base my game off of. On how he and Mason Graham teach each other: It’s an everyday battle. Every time we go onto the field, after a play, we look at the play. He tells me things that I could do better, and I tell him things that he could do better. It's just getting to know each other — I wouldn't say getting to know each other, but knowing each other's tendencies and trying to fix them. … He has a really good pass rush game. He’s very stout and strong. You wouldn’t think he’s strong, but he’s really strong.

  11. One of the major reasons is that it seems like there has many HC coaching changes the last several years, transfers leaving (not many this year), Youth Program in a rebuild, newer players not buying in and some other inconsistencies (some stuff I have heard over the years). After Any Own retired after the 2017 season, they had a lot of success when Burgess lead them to a 4A State game in 2018. Definitely one of the better teams in 4A, since their OL/DL was college sized and their playmakers were very good. 2019 and 2020 seasons were really good when Coultis was there. And it appeared that Central had their long-term guy, but resigned a few weeks prior to summer practices for personal reasons. After that, it has been an immediate downhill for the Bears and looking like a long-term rebuild. It’s pretty strange how quick they dropped down, since they were consistent in the 2010’s. Central may eventually get back to their dominant role, but who knows when that will happen. I’m sure someone will provide a long term explanation, but that is the whole gist of it.

  12. Agreed. Coach Prime would put a D on his jersey. At this rate it appears the NFL is in his future. I'm looking forward to watching him. Sounds like a bigger version of East Chicago's Kawaan Short who ended up having a pretty good NFL career.

  13. Princess Picks: Attica @ PH - Wolves knock off the Ramblers. It'll be a close game though. Fountain Centrals @ Covington - Herbie and the 'Stangs overall could have outperformed RP last week way more than they actually did. I've heard Covington's QB is out due to injury. Tough blow for their first year head coach. Mustangs pull this one out and go 3-1 overall on the season. Seegers @ Riverton Parkes-- Deep down I want RP to pull the upset. But realistically not going to happen. Bob Seegers win (as much as it pains me to say). North Vermillions @ South Vermillions on Saturday-- I still think visors are classy. But on top of that, I think SV has the better athletes overall. I'm taking SV.

  17. I was able to attend both the NV/Cov and FC/RP games. From watching the games I would say NV is much better than people are thinking. They have good athletes and the line is just good enough for them to be dangerous. As for FC I think they got lucky that the RP qb got hurt and one of the running back got hurt as well. If they don't go down I think RP wins that game. I'm not sure FC is the dark horse we thought they'd be. Attica @ PH - PH wins 48 - 12 FC @ Covington - Covington's qb went down with what looked like a knee injury last week (hoping nothing too serious) the kid is a pretty darn good. The FC offense is too dynamic for the Trojans to handle. I'm not sure if they'll pass or rush for 200+ yards because they are capable of both. FC wins 38 - 20 Seeger @ RP - RP is too banged up from the pervious two weeks. I don't think they will be able to keep this close. I do think Coach Sanders will have a few tricks up his sleeves to keep them in the game early. Seeger wins 38 - 12 NV @ SV - After a dominating win last week I think Crabtree will have his boys fired up and ready to take on the county rivals. This is basically the conference championship so it just makes sense for it to be on a Saturday so everyone can go watch. Look for this one to be high scoring and I'll take NV to win 42 - 35

  18. The SAC is just having a down year. Snider, Carroll, and Homestead are staples. Wayne and Concordia have good coaching. I think Ben Johnson will continue having North Side compete. Luers is having a down year, but are still a good program. Same story with Northrop and South Side. Dwenger is the only question mark in my opinion.........not sure what's going on over there.

  21. Yes. It's looking like Snider, Carroll, then everyone else. I thought Homestead beat a decent Wayne team, so they are a "wait and see." Are the Spartans the team that almost beat Carmel, or the team that got embarrassed by Noblesville? The Spartans won't give us any clarity this week against Northrop. The top two in the conference are as good as any of the SAC's top two in recent memory. Three through eight appear to be weaker than I can ever remember. All we can hope for is that Homestead, Dwenger, North Side, and Wayne continue to improve. Otherwise, lot's of "yawners." For the first time in a long time, the SAC probably can't make a claim as the state's third best conference.

  24. This matchup has probably gotten a little more interesting. BD rolled Pike like they were a freshman team last night. Props for BD scheduling this game, it is early enough in the season where if they do get routed (it may be closer than you think) they will be over it come playoff time.

  26. Pioneers offensive workhorses are the qb and fb. Currently our young backs are both playing TE. One of our best jr high athletes last year starts at safety as a freshman and will be a solid back as he matures.

  37. Not looking like a great week for EIAC football. I see all blowouts with the exception of Connersville vs. South Dearborn. This week we dive into who is the best Running Back/Running QB to play at each school. Be sure to vote for your pick. Connersville and Rushville sorry about your luck. You are new to the EIAC and have no football tradition. Connersville @ South Dearborn-This will be the game of the week in the EIAC. I see Connersville pulling off what some would call an upset 28-26. The Knights have not had a lot of historical success so it was tough to find 2 great running backs. It will be a battle of the Mike's. Who was better Mike Manford or Mike Labazzo? East Central @ Franklin County-This was at one time a game of the week statewide but the Wildcats have fallen on difficult times. East Central wins big 62-0. As for the running back discussion we will start with Franklin County....Alex Smith or Kevin Dudley? Both had great Big Ten careers and made it to the NFL. One could argue that these are the best 2 backs to ever lace them up in the conference. East Central has had many great backs over the years Andrew Wolf, Brad Noble, Alex Maxwell but I would say this comes down to Josh Martini or Josh Ringer? Lawrenceburg@Greensburg-It appears that Greensburg is by far the worst team in the conference this year. I think the Tigers get back on track this week after 3 tough weeks. Lawrenceburg wins this one big 42-0. Greensburg has had a few backs but after speaking with a Greensburg historian he seemed 2 center in on two names Trent Black or Derek Karaszia? Lawrenceburg much like East Central has a long list of great backs but 2 names seem to stand out Chris Green or Austin Bowling? Just assuming Chris Green played RB. Rushville @ Batesville-Batesville continues to roll with that old school Trojan Offense 42-14. Rushville I have no idea if you have had 2 great backs in your history so we will leave you out. Batesville during the Coach Hep years was a balanced rushing attack but I am going to throw out Zach Mears or Korey Padgett? If there are others let me know.
