  1. We went through this last season and had way too many topics locked. Keep your feelings about the virus itself, or how quarantines are handled off this page. The topic is what games have been canceled. Stick to the topic please. If you want to write about the politics of it, @Muda69 has an OOB club. Feel free to join that and have at it.

  2. So the gist of your thoughts are that private/parochial schools managed COVID better than the government controlled schools (that’s a shock) and the cure is to “bump up” all private/parochial schools in athletics? “Gotcha”…….to steal a phrase from Muda. How about this alternative? Let’s allow parents and students locked into certain abysmally managed and criminally overpaid government schools to take their misspent tax dollars (and their children) to much more effectively and efficiently ran private/parochial schools. If nothing else, COVID has helped to expose the rot. But no, rather than fix the problems at the heart of Publics let’s slap some paint on it by screwing with the parochial/privates as regards kid’s sports. For the record (and not that it matters) I said, “just bump up all the P/P’s” back when the SF first started because I knew it would inevitably circle back around to this. With that, I have changed my mind because I generally like the matchups that the SF has created (New Pal v Snider, etc.).

  3. As far as I'm concerned, the HS football doesn't begin until the StinkTownClown makes an appearance... Where is he?

  6. Expect that things are going to happen again this year. We may be done with the virus, but it's not done with us.

  7. Ok, I’ll expand on my statement above. With their upgrade in facilities and desire to be taken seriously as a 6A player, Carroll cannot let a 2A school (no disrespect intended at all to Luers) hang around for long. They need to make a statement.

  9. Well, there really shouldn’t be any … yet. But we’ll have a separate thread each week for questions, observations, and even a few complaints. But keep in mind, you need to give us something a little more specific than “those refs sucked. We had 11 penalties, and they only had 4!” If you’re just bitching, you will be openly ridiculed. Fair warning. The more specific information you can give about the situation, the more likely it is the discussion generated will be informative. And that’s the goal. I’d really like to hear some observations about implementation of the new rule affecting blocking below the waist in the free blocking zone. Also, this year’s points of emphasis: intentional grounding, illegal formations, and ineligible downfield.

  10. What's good GID. I'm finally back after a year long hiatus and I'm ready for some high school football. The defending Class 6A champions Center Grove Trojans travel to Warren Central to take on the Warriors. Center Grove ran the tables en route to its 3rd state title in the last two decades. Warren Central struggled to its first losing season in eight years with a 4-6 finish. The Warriors return much of their team from last year and the Trojans have heavily favored to do something that hasn't been done since 2006. Repeat as state champions. This is a great match up and I would like your opinions on who you all think will win. My prediction: the Warriors pull a 2016 and upset the defending champs in a close game 27-24. Rise up Warriors!!!

  11. It's only Shenandoah. They had something like 250 kids quarantined due to contact tracing over the last week or so, according to a message by the superintendent Sunday night. That's like 20% of our total student population. Right now week 1 is not looking likely and I'm doubting we'll play week 2. The rest of the Henry County schools are business as usual.

  12. You may want to reach out to Scecina. Scecina was supposed to play Shenadoah but the Henry County Health Dept shut down Doah extra curriculars today.

  13. Central always has athletic RBs. Their QB is a nice 3 sport athlete. They have kids on the outside who can flat out run. Normally tough hard nosed kids at LB. I think there are 4 maybe 5 teams that could be anywhere from 5-4 to 7-2. Central is in that group. JMO.

  14. I can’t ever decide if Nick’s non-con scheduling is brilliant, masochistic, or both. He’s going to beat one of those teams one of these times. Hope it’s this weekend!

  15. A lot of good matchups don’t really have any predictions except that I’m hoping for a strong GS victory. Don’t know enough about the rest of the teams yet, but I’m glad week 1 is finally here

  17. As was discussed on a previous thread: The Lapel vs. Elwood game was cancelled due to COVID issues with Elwood. It looks like they have rescheduled with Wabash, who's game with Maconaquah (a conference opponent) was cancelled as due to COVID issues with Maconaquah. The Oldenburg Academy vs. Rock Creek Academy game was cancelled due to COVID issues with Rock Creek Academy. Unfortunately for the Twisters, it does not appear Oldenburg has found another opponent to play this week. Anderson Prep Academy... honestly who knows. I am doubtful they will even have a program in the near future. They have gone 3-31 over their last 4 seasons and did not play a single game last year. In 2019, they only played 4 games and got outscored 0-44, 6-54, 0-56, and 8-42.

  19. Believe O'Neil saw a couple series in this game last year as a freshman. McCahill was out a series with some cramps and O'Neil played the last few series in a blowout win. I think Westfield is going to struggle scoring. Going to have to force a ton of turnovers and limit big plays to keep this one close. I have the Irish 38-10.

  22. Memorial, Mater Dei, Gibson Southern, Castle, Central are their top 5. Four of those 5 will be able to sort things out over the year. Unfortunately where GS fits in will have to be fodder for message boards and Twitter polls. Should be an exciting week 1.

  23. I am from Warsaw originally and graduated from there and still have close ties to the school. I now work and live in Dublin, Ohio - so I am very excited to head back home for this one. Will be interesting to say the least! Food wise - while it is certainly hard to be Noa Noa, some of my other local favorites are Cerulean (especially out on the beer garden), Rua (the Farmer's Cheese is an unbelievable appetizer), and OAK & ALLEY (best burgers around with a lot of good beer/drink options).

  25. We did.....our youngest sister still has the metal box it was put in if we were not home. We used to love riding through the neighborhood on the truck as well. It was cool too, to scoop the cream from around the top of the bottle.

  26. I'm apparently a dumbass. Completely forgot about Center Grove's defense. I know I said Warren Central would win. But after looking at the Trojans, there's no way the Warriors are winning this game. Revised prediction: CG 35 WC 14.

  33. Sadly, no I will not be in attendance. I'm a displaced Hatchet alum who lives in Louisville, KY now. Haven't made the trip to West Terre Haute since my sophomore year of HS (when I attended Edgewood) back in 2010. Y'all whipped us pretty good that year. You guys seemed massive up front and had a fullback who I'm still convinced was at least 22 years old lol Fingers crossed that both teams make it out healthy. And, best of luck to tour Vikings this year!

  34. There still are no classes in wrestling. Mater Dei has a cool gym to watch a wrestling tournament in and they are a class act as a team. I'll miss going to the Frosh/Soph qualifier there next year. Although this year I had to watch from a hotel room while my son wrestled, it was still cool.

  36. If all goes well with my schedule, I will be at this game as well. My son has graduated so now I will check out some great games in Northern Indiana. May have to trek to Central Indiana to catch some good ones as well. Spent a couple of years in Central Ohio as a player in HS before relocating and finishing my HS career in Northern Indiana and Coffman has always had a decent program. Should be a great game.

  39. 2021 HHC Prediction: 1. Columbus East - Kind of hard to pick against them. Eddie Vogel is the new head coach but he’s been at East under Bob Gaddis for almost 20 years. Vogel has already said not much will change in the way things are done so I’m going to expect more of the same success on the field. 2. New Albany - They could honestly be the most talented team in the conference. Execution will be the question. 3. Floyd Central - Hard to imagine any of the other teams jumping the Highlanders for third. Despite the slip-up in sectionals last year, James Bragg is building something and he has the talent and resources to do so. 4. Jeffersonville - Isaac Parker is in year three as head coach and the team’s end to year two has given the program some great momentum. The question is, can they maintain it? 5. BNL - This is the team I’m having the hardest time getting a read on. They have a brand new coach and they’re coming off of two straight rough seasons. I feel like they have the potential to be better but there’s just too many unknowns here for me to rank them higher. 6. Seymour - Still not feeling too confident in the Owls. I just have a hard time trusting their young, second-year head coach to get the job done. My impression is that he was a bit overwhelmed making the jump last year. We’ll see how much he and the team have improved. 7. Jennings County - I would’ve had them one spot higher if they didn’t have a last-second coaching change. Every time the program takes a step forward they end up taking two steps back.

  40. Well who knows how many NLCers we'll get this year on the forum - but here we are ready for Week 1 Concord at Elkhart: I think this could/should be a close game. Elkhart is probably the pick to win the NIC big division this year, but have some areas to fill from last year's Sectional Championship team. I think Concord has some good playmakers and I think they are in the conversation with Warsaw and Mishawaka as to who will win the conference this year. I will go with Elkhart by 6 Dublin Coffman (OH) at Warsaw: I love that the Tigers are stepping it up in the scheduling department... but man oh man this is a STEP UP. Dublin Coffman plays in what I would equivalate to the MIC conference in the largest division of Ohio football. They consistently have NCAA D1 signees, and in northern Indiana, the name most recognizable for you all would be Brady Quinn. I will say - it is interesting that this game was agreed to as a 1-year deal and I heard it was made with Coffman's previous coach. That coach (Mark Crabtree) ended up retiring in January of this year, after the agreement was made. So at the very least - the Tigers have a chance in the sense that it is a new coaching staff for the Shamrocks. However, I still think Coffman will just be the more talented team. Dublin Coffman by 14 East Noble at Plymouth: The Knights have had an impressive 3-year run, and each of those past 3 seasons has started with a win over the Rockies. Plymouth got bit by the Covid bug last year with their last 3 games of the regular season being cancelled enroute to possibly the worst regular season in Coach Barron's tenure. I believe the Rockies will be a little better this year, but not in the fist week. East Noble by 17 Goshen at Fairfield: A good old-fashioned backyard contest to start the season. Will be interesting to see how the Redhawks perform. Goshen has only won 3 games the past 3 seasons, and 2 of those were against the Falcons. I firmly believe Fairfield would have beaten Goshen last year had they played, but that week 1 game was cancelled due to Covid. This year - I am not sure. Fairfield lost a number of key playmakers from last year's undefeated regular season team. This should be a good game, and one that Goshen NEEDS to win. I will go with Goshen by 7 Jimtown at NorthWood: Another local favorite that was cancelled last year. Jimtown had a solid first season under Coach Stoner, while NorthWood had a very up and down .500 season. I think this will be a good measuring stick game for both of these programs. The Panthers are riding a 7 game winning streak in the series... I think the Jimmies break that on Friday. Jimtown by 7 Mishawaka at Marian: Yet another local rivalry game to start the season. The Cavemen are my preseason pick to win the NLC this year behind their stud QB. He will be a PROBLEM for NLC defenses this season. Last year, Marian won for the first time over Mishawaka since the 2011 season in a barnburner of a game on their way to a second consecutive semistate appearance in class 3A. The only two teams to beat the Knights the last two years are Mishawaka and Chatard. I think the Cavemen win this one. Mishawaka by 2 Northridge at Adams: This has been a good week 1 matchup the last 10 years. The Eagles started last year 3-0 against inferior opponents before finishing 1-6. The Raiders welcome a new head coach in 8 seasons after the retirement of Coach Wogomon and without a doubt their best era of football in school history. Can Coach Eppley continue to maintain and progress the program moving forward? A win in week 1 would be a good start. I think the Raiders are right there as a bit of a "darkhorse" behind Mishawaka, Warsaw and Concord this season in the NLC race. They could certainly end up on top of the conference. Northridge by 14 Tippecanoe Valley at Wawasee: A Kosciusko County matchup between teams that have no met a single time in the last 35 years! I think the two teams would benefit from keeping this one on the schedule moving forward. The Vikings really got it going in the middle of their season last year, while the Warriors started out hot before getting into NLC play. I would love to see Wawasee take another step forward in their 3rd season under Coach Reutebuch after winning 2 games his first seasons and 3 last year. Getting Tippecanoe Valley at home, I'll give them the nod here. Wawasee by 3

  41. Carroll better win handily...that’s all I’ll say.

  42. I get what you are saying. Luers returns more of their core than Carroll does though. So that might make a difference. Bottom line.............anyone who plays Carroll this year better have their pass defense in order.

  43. You coming up for the game Friday night? I will be there. I'm not sure what to expect. West Vigo returns 16 starters. The skill guys all return and both QBs return. WV used a 2 QB system last year and it didn't work too well. Coach Cobb said he was gonna name a starter this week so I'm curious to see who he chooses. Marrs would be my choice, I think he has the better arm and touch. Had a really nice TD pass in the scrimmage. He had the most success last season too. Defense might be a work in progress. Not sure what is back on that side of the ball. I know they have a few new guys out that haven't played in years prior. Carter Murphy a 6'3" 230lb WR/TE who also plays baseball is back this year. He should be a nice weapon for whoever the QB is. I'm looking forward to this game. Should be a good one!! Good luck to your Hatchets!

  45. The general notion of changing rules to make life harder on more successful people or organizations in order for less successful people or organizations to enjoy the illusion of “success” is pernicious and indefensible. There is no right way or good way to do it. In this piece, the excuse is Covid. When SF was put in, the excuse was something else. Once Covid is gone, the excuse will be something else still. If somebody doesn’t like their results, rather than lobbying to have rules changed to get more favorable results, just work within the rules to do so. Rather than complaining about more successful competitors, see what you can learn from them to match their success. The lesson that these sorts of proposals teach our kids is an awful one: if they aren’t succeeding as much as somebody else, it’s because the deck is stacked in favor of the succeeders and the way to remedy that is to stack the deck in favor of the non-succeeders. This is not how real life works. In fact, it’s the antithesis of how real life works.

  46. Move Vincennes to the PAC problem solved. SIAC would then have 1 non-conference game to work with and the PAC teams would only have to deal with two. From a football perspective moving to the PAC might be a better fit for the Alices.
