I felt all the crews did a great job officiating (even if another had an axe to grind because their crew didn't make the finals). Mistakes can and will happen, but even in the mistakes they were not game changing errors IMHO. Thought your crew did a great job! A lot of terrific athletes on that field. I could tell at times there was good interaction between the players and your crew, which tells me the players had the utmost respect for your crew. Just have to make sure I get your autograph if I ever meet you in person now that you are a television star! Keep up the good work, felt you guys officiated the game near flawless which is all you can ask for!

If you saw that play and thought it was anything close to a "judgement call," you need new glasses.

LOL....there was quite a bit in this thread that didn't age well. Indeed....a 35-3 run put that baby to bed. Congrats to the Titans! First public 3A south of Indy to win state since we did in 2000. Glad it's back, and back in the PAC!

Well, not the ending we wanted but a great game, nonetheless. Both Defenses showed their strength and, in the end, a fumble deep in MD territory turned the tide. #34, Bowen was the best player on the field. He took the game over in the 2nd half, leading Andrean to a well earned victory. Congrats to the 59'ers. As for the Wildcats, not the end result we wanted but so very proud of the team & its overall effort Saturday. The Defense came to play and the Offense gave it their best but came up short against an equally strong Andrean defense. I knew Andrean would be bigger in some areas but it seemed every player at every position had about 20 lbs on us. 💪 In the end, we came up a little short but we could not be more proud of the team and the overall season! Thanks to this awesome group of Seniors: Tyler Martin, James Ralph, Nicholas, Boots, Eli McDurmon, Will Carter, Cole & Dane Wilson, Pierce Wolters, Bryce Humphrey, JT Mayer, Calvin Stratman, Ryan VanBibber, Luke Burgdorf, Jay Schiff, Nathan Koressel, Colin Maurer, Mason Eichoff, & Landon Elpers... Thanks for your leadership, dedication & effort over the past 4 years. Your collective effort has once again lifted the team, the school, and the West Side community and given us something to take our minds off all the other craziness going on the world...if only for a few hours a week. Can't wait until next year...

Proud of our boys and their playoff run. Great experience for our community, can't wait to do it again. Mt Vernon had some crazy speed for sure.

Absolutely in AGREEMENT!!! This has the feeling of a 'money grab' all over it. Kinda like that girl that you know you have NO BUSINESS having any interest in you, but you get all giddy when she pushes upon you....It won't end well. But the paycheck may be nice.

My guess is that Swarbick still remembers the plane landing in Utah and Meyer sending it back. That bridge has burned, and there is too much baggage with Meyer after that.

Right or wrong, if a kid is interested in playing college football, he needs to start going to camps as early as possible. And I think it’s important that he picks the right ones, too. He’ll not only get to meet coaches from all levels, he’ll get to perform in front of them (if only briefly). The earlier, the better. The more coaches he gets in front of the better. Unless you’re a very highly-touted recruit, you’re going to have to make most of the effort going after them…rather than the other way around. If you’re waiting for somebody to finally notice and show up at your doorstep, there’s a good chance they won’t. It’s a really good life lesson, actually. Success ain’t gonna come find you.

It will take Brian Kelly three years to rebuild LSU. He has the talent at Notre Dame to win next year. Maybe we'll hire Urban Meyer and win the championship in Brian Kelly's first year out.

I don’t have much to add to @Moshiner1345’s insightful analysis of the play from an official’s standpoint. I’ll just reiterate that, regardless of how you interpret the slo mo and replay views, I would never fault that official’s judgment on a play like this, regardless of whether - with the benefit of technology - I thought it was the correct call or not.

Curry...a 4 year starter in the MIC playing 6A ball. How many times has that happened? 2 time state champion with 3 state finals appearances in 4 years. When you say career body of work, you may want to study his competition.

USC's campus isn't in the greatest neighborhood--Watts, South Central LA, etc. Despite that, security and cops are everywhere as are the big donors to get in your face should you lose a lot.

That would be my fear as a USC coach. A lot of distractions in LA with celebrities, agents, etc. I think Carroll was too lose and it cost him.

The weekend played out about as expected... I'll start with the teams that struggled... Eastern, WRV, Clay City, and North Central each lost their opening game. Eastern will likely struggle all year. WRV lost a close one vs. North Knox. Clay City was a toss up for me... Looks like South Putnam had enough to squeeze out a win. North Central was a bigger loss than I expected, but the White/Cook backcourt is pretty good. If Northview has any type of size... this doesn't seem like a big loss. Shakamak beat a very weak Rivet team. I'm not sure it says much one way or the other about the Lakers. Bloomfield beat Owen Valley and Cloverdale. I thought the Clovers would put up a bigger fight... maybe they were missing someone. Bloomfield looks to be minus Dean and Sherrard for what could be the whole season... that would not be good for the Cardinals post season chances. North Daviess won 3 games over the weekend. The win against Loogootee was a nice victory against a sectional opponent. Evansville Day looked to be an easy win , but North Posey looked to be a close game. Linton got 2 quality wins over quality teams this weekend. Indy Metro didn't play the 6'10" Merriweather kid, but they played faster without him. Stamps was a load at 6'1" 250lbs. He scored 20 or so in the 1st half... Their PG, Omari Ferguson was a speedster. He was really tough to stay in front of in transition. They will be a tough 1A team. Park Heritage went to state last year, but the Miners handled them fairly well. Some big shots out of a few PH kids helped keep the game close, but it never seemed to feel like it would be close. One of those weird games were the score looked and felt like an 8-10 point game for the majority of the time.

JMO. Mr Football should be a player with multiple years of post season success. If it’s just senior season Allen has got to be 1 or 2.

I am solidly in favor of going to 7 man crews in the upper levels of the playoffs. You don’t have to go any further than the first half of the 1A game to see an example of the benefit. There was a play that covered about 20 yds. and ended up with the runner diving over the pylon with the ball. The Head Linesman was forced to make a call while he was still running down the sideline trailing the play. Not his fault at all. It’s just a play that’s impossible to cover adequately with a 5 man crew. With a 7 man crew, there would have been an official stationary on that pylon, letting the play come to him. The knock against going to 7 is that it introduces some unfamiliar mechanics, and a couple of new faces, to an officiating crew that has demonstrated excellence at 5 man mechanics … and does so at a time when a mistake or miscommunication could cost a team their season. In my opinion, the difficulties in transitioning to a 7 man crew at, for example, the Regional level, are overrated. By that time, you have plenty of good officials available to supplement the 5 man crews. Let the crews choose their own additional officials, but the IHSAA should place stringent requirements to qualify as eligible for selection. In 2017, my last year of officiating on the field, I worked as the back judge on a 7 man crew in the North-South All Star game. I had never worked as a B on this crew, and our deep wings were 2 college guys I met for the first time at the dinner the night before. Some pregame study of the mechanics, and a nice pregame conference, and everything went fine. Is it optimal? Of course not. But the additional coverage is a benefit that far outweighs any transition issues, IMO. But another benefit that cannot be ignored these days is that expansion of the number of officials who get to work further in the playoffs is a sound retention strategy at a time when officials are leaving for a variety of reasons, one of which is frustration over the inability to advance in the tournament. However, I have not yet been able to convince anyone who matters of the wisdom of my viewpoint.

Park Heritage will be tough to beat. The Linton score doesn't take into account that Coach Hart has a lot of familiarity with Christian Johnson... and specifically how best to slow him down.... I'm not sure you can stop him. Wrigley Franklin drew the short straw to guard him. Franklin was a step slower, but at 6'2" 220 with a 6'6" wingspan... he forced Johnson to take contested shots and didn't get pushed around. Coach Hart clearly wanted his team to contest his shots... provide help at the rim... DO NOT let him kill us on second chance opportunities with offensive rebounds. He wasn't shooting well... there was help to make his drives contested (he still scored)... and most importantly... we didn't let him get going with offensive rebounds. He is an impressive athlete... I'm not sure most schools will have the horses to run with him. I was impressed with Dowd and Luce as shooters... they kept it close. McNeal did a great job on Joey Hart. He was giving up some height but his wingspan and athleticism gave Hart some trouble at points during the game. Noble Johnson also made some big athletic moves to score... he also shot better from 3 point range than I expected. Who knows... these two teams could meet again in late March.

The IHSAA goes off of the DOE numbers, the DOE takes two counts to come up with an average. The count days are in September and February. So none of the numbers are official yet. Look for the official numbers to be out in March or April.

A huge miss occurred in the MD/Andrean game. Andrean up 7-6 with MD driving. 3rd down, MD passes and the Andrean CB grabs/turns the MD receiver almost completely around, no pass interference call. Instead of 1st and goal from about the 8 yard line, MD settles for a FG to go up 9-7. IMO, it completely changed the end of the game. A TD there and MD goes up by a TD (assuming a 2pt conversion). Changed how the the offense was called for the rest of the game. Now, could Andrean have marched right down and scored an TD to tie it up? Absolutely. But I think MD would have stuck to the run game a bit more late in the game instead of passing so much. Bowen seemed to have his ears pinned back going after Wunderlich. Officials miss calls all the time, but to me this was the most egregious all weekend.

TV announcers said the prefect thing after they had talked to Coach Moore. Coach Moore stated there was a period in time they were the "Hunters" and now they are the "Hunted" and he feels it is very tough being the "Hunted". What some like Temp don't take into account is what Coaching Staffs endure. when you are winning it is not an easy task to keep teenage boys grounded. By that I mean complacent or overzealous. It is a constant battle for coaches to work on them sticking with the fundamentals even if they have major talent. I think Coach Moore and his staff have done a masterful job doing just that. Congrats to the Trojans Grover, they definitely earned that 28-0 back to back champions.

So, the Sooners lose Riley to the friendlier PAC 12 and Texas would be one of the worst teams in the SEC if the move was next season. Both of these schools are getting a hard dose of reality for giving up bullying the Big 12 for a massive cash grab.

Trojans are 52-1 in state title years. Three unbeaten seasons. Quite an achievement, really.

Brady Allen is a much better QB than Jackson, I don’t care what the rankings say. I’m actually floored that Jackson is going to a respectable SEC school. I get it, he has the size/mobility that coaches drool over but his mechanics/footwork need major improvement and he really hasn’t played in an offense where he needs to make multiple reads and go through progressions down the field. I think he’s in for a rude awakening at the next level, similar to what you saw with McCulley at IU this year. And I say that as the biggest IU football fan there is. Curry is the best football player in the state in my opinion, but it’s a stat/offensive award and Allen wins in that department. It’s a two man race and I’m fine with either getting it, both are deserving.

Blake Fisher was probably the only chance for an OL winning it. Just the reality of the situation. they should make an OL/DL award though….as much as Indiana loves to talk about corn fed/Uber physical lineman….probably would do it some justice

Needs to learn a "swim technique"... IMO. Just because you get disrupted on the way in....that AIN'T "holding'! My U PLAYED at Louisville. I "participated" at Kentucky.... we kinda have experience with the game of FB. Having said that, there were studs ALL over the field in the 6A game! I truly hope that those of you saw that, and appreciated the efforts.

Many of you have probably never heard of Freddy Toth (GS RT #70) This kid was amazing all season and particularly in the playoffs against some of the best DEs 3A had to offer. Have to include this quote from his Mom on a Facebook post. “When Freddy was just little, he explained his position to me like this— “Mom, if Brady is behind my butt then I’m doing good.” He did good!!! ❤️“

I was rooting for Andrean being from the Region. Bowen was a man amongst boys out there. Andrean was having all kinds of problems with the Mater Dei pass rush. Andrean finally went more rush heavy in the second half and it paid off. Andrean could not match the pressure generally, but the QB for Mater Dei seemed a little less accurate. I say generally because, of course, the biggest play of the game was the strip sack and recovery on the 3 which put the game firmly in Andrean’s control. Andrean’s rush defense was superior all day. The one huge breakdown was on the QB keeper where he got loose. Agree that the train horn played on all scores. Good crowd for both sides. When Phil Mason left, I am glad they hired Chris Skinner. What a great representative of the school. He is a alumnus. What most people don’t know is that he is an EXCELLENT teacher as well. Many in the school regard him as the best educator in the school. He teaches Honors Biology for freshmen and really challenges his students in the classroom. Also teaches AP Biology. Many graduates rave how he has prepared them for college, and have heard some college students save their notes from freshman biology and refer to them in their college studies years later. Could not happen to a better guy.

You were right. That momentum from the Strickland commitment propelled Purdue to an 8-win season and made IU go winless in conference. Just imagine if he had chosen IU and all that momentum went the other way. IU may well have been playing in the upcoming BTCG for a spot in the playoffs. #LEO
